Fundraising to IMPACT Our Community

April 11, 2015 Greetings: The DC Pearls III Foundation, was incorporated on April 1, 2002 by twelve members of Rho Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. The purpose of the Foundation since its inception has always been to fund the Chapter’s annual community service programs, provide scholarship awards to area high school students, and make contributions to other charitable organizations. As the Foundation celebrates thirteen years of service, the 2015-2016 Board has adopted the platform of “Fundraising to I.M.P.A.C.T Our Community.” The Foundation Board recognizes the importance it plays in the community to Invest, Motivate, Prepare, Act, Communicate, and be Transparent in every way possible. It is with great honor and privilege that we celebrate these ten remarkable Debutantes and fifteen Pink Satin Pearls. They, along with their family support, have worked tirelessly throughout the year while gaining valuable experiences fostering character building, career development, and community service. We are so proud of each of you, and wait expectantly to hear about the great accomplishments you will be making in the years to come. Society has made room and awaits you. Yours truly,

Johnine N. Clark

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated RHO MU OMEGA April 11. 2015 Dear Friends and Supporter, It is my pleasure and honor to bring you greetings on behalf of the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Rho Mu Omega Chapter. We are extremely grateful that you chose to share this momentous occasion with us as we proudly celebrate the young ladies who are being presented to Society tonight. To the Parents thank you for sharing your daughters. They are your mirror shinning and reflecting back at you with a world of possibilities because you have molded them to be the best that they can be. They project all the goodness, wisdom, integrity and love that you raised them with. Tonight you are a witness of their entry into society knowing that they are prepared to face the world and all of its excitement and challenges that lie ahead of them. To our Debutantes, Annanda, Ashley, Avery, Ke’era Kennedy, Kynessa, Jenna, Lauren, Monet and Morgen, it has been a pleasure getting to know you, sharing experiences, honoring your achievement, and reveling in your excitement. We are very proud of each of you this evening. It is our hope that you will always embrace and refer back to the knowledge gained from this process to include workshops on etiquette, college preparatory, and career planning and goals, as well as the bonding opportunities like the mother daughter tea, the father daughter bowling outing and the sleepover with your fellow debutantes. Our hope is that this relationship will be meaningful to you and the next phase in your life. We hope your contributions to the community throughout this journey, will assist you to continue to foster goodwill and use your energy and talents to bring positive change in your community. Our goal and hope for each Debutante is that the culmination of experience through this process will guide you throughout your lives. Our Pink Satin Pearls, Alena, Charlie, Chayla, Destini, Diandra, India, Jessica, Karys, Lauryn, Lindsay, Madison Mattaniah, Naomi, Sequioa, and Victoria, your adorable youthfulness is what is good in this world. Your eagerness to learn and participate in the Cotillion season is reflected by the joy in how you embraced all of the workshops and activities. You were exceptional in the etiquette workshop and we are so very proud of how you bonded with each other. We look forward to you growing up and perhaps being a Debutante in one of our future Cotillions. This awesome evening would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our Cotillion Chairman Teresa Scott, ViceChairmen Tyus Lewis, Phyllis Throckmorton, Pink Satin Chairman Holli Townsend and their amazing committees. Their unwavering commitment is reflected in a very successful event tonight. Equally important the generous support from numerous parents family, friends and loved ones. Your support of this event will allow Rho Mu Omega chapter to continue to serve and uplift communities in Washington DC through our Launching New Dimensions of Service programs initiatives that focus on Education Enrichment, Health Promotion, Family Strengthening, Environmental Ownership and Global Impact. Our Sisterhood is built on serving mankind which has resonated through our countless hours of community service. It is with deep gratitude that I express my sincerest thanks for all of the outstanding support of this event. Sincerely,

Sharon B. Falby 2

My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style. —Maya Angelou For almost a year, each of you, as our precious debutantes, has embarked on a journey of discovery, growth, and change. There have been moments that reminded you of all the teachings of your parents; moments of learning new things from those who have shared with you in workshops; and “aha” moments shared among yourselves at dance rehearsals, community service projects, and slumber parties. Tonight, we share in the culminating event of this your 2014-2015 Cotillion Season with your Pearl Ball. You now make your debut into society and take another step on your life’s journey. No one knows what is specifically ahead for each of you. Yet, as the late Maya Angelou made clear, survival should not be your goal. Rather press for a full life. Pursue higher education, discover your passion, grow into change agents who strive for the betterment of your communities, and be uniquely you! To the parents, sponsors, families, and friends, who have shepherded these young ladies through this Season and provided every kind of support, including financial, we thank you for all that you have done. We hope that this evening you can share in the fruits of your labor and enjoy a lovely evening of music, dance, and fellowship. Finally, Ashley, Kennedy, Avery, Kenyssa, Monet, Morgen, Jenna, Ananda, Lauren, and Ke’era, each of you are lovely young ladies with bright futures. Your only limits are those you set for yourself. Now is your time to shine! Never forget that there is only one you. Indeed, as you were born an original, strive not for sameness and mediocrity; instead, press for the higher mark. That, our precious debutantes is your destiny. Sincerely,

Teresa A. Scott Tyus Lewis Teresa A. Scott Chair, 2014-15 Cotillion

It has truly been my pleasure and distinct honor to serve as Chairman of the 2015 Pink Satin Pearls Program. The fifteen lovely girls embraced opportunities to fundraise for scholarships and participate in developmental activities that helped them grow. Over the past eight months, I have watched these girls blossom, become more selfconfident and have a lot of fun. These life lessons will serve them well. Additionally, they developed long-lasting friendships and engaged in activities that were designed to build courage and character. I believe that this experience was a stepping stone in their life’s journey and I look forward to them returning to participate in the program as Debutantes. I take this opportunity to thank the Pink Satin Pearl (PSP) Parents for all their support and encouragement. It is our hope that you have seen your daughters learn and grow from this experience. Further, we hope that this program complemented your developmental goals to expose your children to positive educational, refinement and motivational opportunities. Please know that we are grateful that you chose to include your daughters in this program. It is our sincere hope that this experience created long-lasting memories for you and your daughters. Finally, I congratulate the Pink Satin Pearls for successfully completing this program. We stand ready to receive you as a Pearl Ball Debutante Cotillion participant in the future. Sincerely,

Holli B. Townsend

Nothing To Fear Author Unknown

There's nothing to fear - you're as good as the best, As strong as the mightiest, too. You can win in every battle or test; For there's no one just like you. There's only one you in the world today; So nobody else, you see, Can do your work in as ďŹ ne a way: You're the only you there'll be ! So face the world, and all life is yours To conquer and love and live: And you'll ďŹ nd the happiness that endures In just the measure you give; There's nothing too good for you to possess, Nor heights where you cannot go: Your power is more than belief or guess It is something you have to know. There is nothing to fear - you can and you will. For you are the invincible you. Set your foot on the highest hill There's nothing you cannot do.

With Love,

Michael Brown
