Vyoma Haldipur I am a final year Product Design undergraduate student at the National Institute of Design (NID) pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design. I enjoy the problem solving aspect of Product Design and observing and understanding how products affect the way people live. I am currently working on a systems project based on the problems of a fast paced lifestyle. I am interested in a variety of things and am a fast learner.
I enjoy talking to people, travelling and cooking. I love food, fragrances and animals. I keep a log of all my experiences through photographs.
This portfolio includes projects done during the last four years at the National Institute of Design and my exchange semester at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs.

Simple Product Design
The RHIZOME collection offers products related to indoor horticulture and the urban vegetable garden, inspired by raw materials and the artisanal know-how of the Manufacture de Digoin. It uses a combination of sandstone, glass and rope.
RHIZOME ENSAD x Manufacture de Digoin Rhizome is a project done during my exchange semester at ENSAD, Paris in collaboration with ‘Manufacture de Digoin’ a stoneware manufactury in France. I worked with two other students on this live project. Team: Vyoma Haldipur Calypso Guimard Maurine Rolland

The first product in the collection is an aromatic herb planter which works on the capillary principle. The herbs that were primarily focused on were chive, parsley, mint, coriander, basil and thime. The second product in the collection is a set of chopping boards. They have an enamelled side for chopping and a matt side for grip.

details and considerations
While ideating 6 commonly used herbs were taken into consideration and different aspects such as picking up, watering and grouping were explored.

final forms and colour schemes Keeping all the usage aspects in mind, two forms were proposed to the company out of which one was chosen and taken forward to the enamel scheme phase. Three colour schemes were decided based on the current catalogue of the company and final production was started.

XBOX JAW Xbox Jaw 360 is the outcome of a course named “Nature and Form”. We had to choose one product and one inspiration from nature that would then be used to modify the form of the product. The product I chose was the gaming console ‘Xbox 360’ and the inspiration was a hammerhead shark.
Existing scenario The current solutions that people used were explored to take this project forward.
TROVE “Trove” was the outcome of a 6-week course called ‘simple product design’ at the National Institute of Design (NID). Carrying toiletries is always a problem when you are travelling. The trove lockable toiletries help you carry your toiletries without worrying about them spoiling the other things in your bag.
Rapid Prototypes Various mockups were tried and tested and one was taken forward to the final prototyping stage.
safety lock to avoid unwanted spillage
slip proof grip for easy one hand use
100ml net volume for unrestricted travel
It consisted of more than 20 parts and was made over a course of 2 weeks.
PRODUCT REPLICATION As a way of learning to deal with materials and machines I replicated the egg beater to a scale of 1:1.25. Various materials like polystyreme, wood, nylon, alluminium, etc were explored with.
The final outcome was a working model of the original egg beater.
MANAGEMENT AND BRANDING “Vatika” was rebranded by us to reach out to a wider audience and to earn more profits. The currently available catalogue of the brand was studied in detail and their advertising campaign was analysed by us. This project was done in a group.
We identified the gap between the brand’s identity and the brand’s image and decided to bridge the gap by launching a completely new advertising campaign.
The logo was redesigned in order to give Vatika a fresh look.
The new campaign was designed by keeping the needs of the complete audience of vatika in mind and was named “Nature Nurtures.
BUBBLE “Bubble was a project done as a part of my exchange semester at ENSAD, Paris. It started with research of existing light sources and culminated with an individual project with an open brief. The brief I chose was to create a lighting solution for people who share living spaces with others to help them increase their productivity by being in control of their daily cycle.
Every person living in a society affects each other in some way or the other. Sleep cycle is at the top of the list, especially when you are sharing a room.
Factors affecting sleep
cafeine intake
reading
fixed sleep cycle
sleep environment
bedtime routine
body temperature
Ideation
Different ways of opening and closing and personalization of light were explored and one concept was taken forward.
Usage You can personalize your bubble around you depending on the activity that you are doing.
DESSIN MORPHOLOGIE I took a live sketching elective during my exchange semester at ENSAD. We sketched many models during a period of 4 months. The duration of sketching kept switching between 2 to 10 minutes.
The story was about the population rise in India and how it leads to people living a very competitive life. About how people in this distopian world might crave some spirituality and how it would be much different than the present form of idol worship and prayer.
YOG HEADSET “Souvenirs from the futures” was a 2-week workshop about SPECULATIVE DESIGN as a part of the Global Futures Lab experiments conducted by professor Paolo Cardini from Rhode Island School of Design. This project involved imagining a possible future in the Indian context and then creating products that would make you reflect about such a future.
In Search of Peace Mahesh emptied his cup of coffee and packed his bag since the day’s work was done. But as soon as he looked at his watch, he realised that this day was no new and it had already been too late. On the way back home, he gives a call to his mother, discussing about his work and how it had started getting hectic. “Son, I hope you pray regularly, it will calm you down.” , suggests his mother. “Yes, mom I have figured a way out.” Reaching home, Mahesh quickly puts on his ‘Yog Headset’ and soothing chants begin to play and he soon drifts into a world of spirituality. The ‘Yog Headset’ calms him down and he leaves behind his worries of the day. This calming pause is the only thing that Mahesh looks forward to now, as it keeps him prepared for the next day.
Final Prototype The headset was made in colaboration with local basket weavers and the leather department of the National Institute of Design. At first sight there is a wanting for the object that is created in ones mind, however on further understanding the context one starts questioning the lifestyle that we are headed towards. We wanted the object to instill fear into the minds of the viewers about the distopian future.
