12 | Playoff Picture With all of the talk around the OSSAA making some potential changes to the playoff system for Class 6A, VYPE weighs in giving their opinion and possible solutions for a new playoff system. Or maybe we’ll suggest no changes at all?

The former OCS Saint is ligting up the NBA. We look at the road from high school to college to the NBA. Staying humble, Griffin has continued to produce. Now you can see him in many "rather funny" commercials highlighting Game Fly, KIA and others.
For the first time the Oklahoma City area announces the first Elite 8 team. Four of the best boys and four of the best girls make the team. Check out why we think these eight are the top players in Central Oklahoma.

"The Days Are Getting Longer!" As we welcomed in 2013 we said goodbye to 2012, a great year in high school sports. The calendar changes to a new year and the days start to get a little longer as we creep closer to spring. But before we get too far ahead of ourselves lets slow down and appreciate the month that is January. The Elite 8 basketball team is announced in this issue and it features some truly talented basketball players. For the first time in the Central Oklahoma VYPE is bringing you eight of the best players in the state. Take a look at these area allstars.
Edmond is known for many things, one of which is basketball. We take a closer look at the Edmond Santa Fe girls and the Edmond Memorial boys as they prepare for a run to the state tournament.
Please take a moment to look at the ads in this issue and when you can patronize the businesses and companies you see advertising. Without their support we couldn’t cover your kids and communities. Stop in and tell them thanks for being a part of the VYPE family. Contact us at Oklahoma@vype.com and follow us on twitter @vypeok. Here’s to another great year of high school sports! We’ll see you at the game!
-Mark Rodgers
The Edmond Santa Fe Lady Wolves and the Edmond Memorial boys are both getting off to a great start this season. Lynn Jacobsen takes a closer look at each squad as we find out what makes them two teams firmly situated in the playoff picture.

Oklahoma Christian was featured in your last issue and I wanted to point out that the article could have just focused on the game and the boys that worked so hard this season. I didn't see a need in pointing out who we’re graduating. We already know that. But anyway, thanks for the coverage.

What’s The Big Deal?
I recently bumped into a photographer that said he was shooting for VYPE Magazine. When I asked him if I could buy his photos he said no, that the magazine handled that. So who do I speak with about buying your photos? Kevin S. Oklahoma City, OK
Editor’s Note: Thanks for the email Kevin. Yes we sell the photos for parents looking to add to the scrapbook! Let us know what game it was and the date, we’ll take care of you. For anyone else
interested send us an email to oklahoma@vype.com.
Class 7A Have you guys heard the OSSAA is considering making a Class 7A because schools on the east side are so big? I think you should do an article on it. Keep up the good work. Sheldon P. Norman, OK
Editor’s Note: Yes we’ve heard there are meetings going on about a Class 7A or a new playoff system. We’re working on something, but we’re going to wait for the details to come out first.
Bad Idea Can you tell these kids about the pitfalls of things like twitter and facebook? I see kids all the time making rude comments and posting bad photos. Has VYPE ever done something on this? You should! Veronica R. Edmond, OK
Editor’s Note: Since we use both twitter and facebook we see a lot of the same stuff and have in fact recommended to a few athletes they take something down. But ultimately it’s the responsibility of their parents. Kids should know by now that potential coaches on the college level do pay attention to that stuff. Beware….you never know who’s watching.

Mr. Football Oklahoma
Trey’Vonne Barr'e From the VYPE Top 100, we have whittled down the list to 50, then to the 10 Finalists. We now salute the 2012 Mr. Football Oklahoma Trey’Vonne’ Barr'e. TREY’VONNE BARR'E RB/CB – 5-8, 180, Sr. JENKS TROJANS
Senior running back Trey’Vonne Barr’e was named the 2012 State Farm Mr. Football after leading the Jenks Trojans to a Class 6A state championship. Barr’e became the All-Time leading rusher in Jenks history finishing his career with 4,721 yards and scoring in a record 27 straight games. This season Barr’e averaged 9.8 yards per carry and rushed for 32 touchdowns to lead Class 6A. His 2,237 yards on 229 carries this season also lead 6A in rushing. During the playoffs Barr’e rushed for 858 yards to propel Jenks past Booker T. Washington, Edmond North, Union and Norman North. Barr’e also played defensive back when needed and returned five kicks for 158 yards and a touchdown on special teams. For his outstanding season and dedication to being a great player for Jenks, Trey’Vonne Barr’e is the 2012 State Farm Mr. Football.

The Discussion of Class 6A/7A for Football in Oklahoma VYPE Team Weighs in
During the December OSSAA board meeting, a plan was proposed to the board that laid out a split of the 32 teams competing in Class 6A football. The board nearly voted to approve the plan. Even though it did not pass, the OSSAA did a great job of getting the discussion put on the table.
Since then, the coaches and athletic directors of Class 6A have met and have discussed other plans and have presented those to the OSSAA in the ever-growing argument of how to make the state’s largest class more competitive from top to bottom.
Bill Huddleston - Long-time radio analyst and VYPE Three Rivers Director
I, for one, have never bought the idea that the number of kids attending a school determined who will or won’t win a state title. And, on occasion, we’ve all witnessed situations where a team, for example, out of Class 4A will defeat a team from Class 6A. However, to compete in a season long schedule, numbers do make a difference if nothing further than the opportunities for talent pool. Given that, changes are needed if for nothing more than to quiet the long running debate. I like one of the proposals where six teams from each of the four 8-team districts get into the playoffs to create a pool of teams for two divisions of Class 6A playoffs. The district champion would automatically qualify for group A and then the next largest ADM qualifying

Difference BA 3.5x larger • 5A: Largest Del City 1,254 smallest Chickasha 678 Difference Del City 1.8x larger
school goes into group A. These two qualifying teams from each district would form an 8-team format. Round one would be a cross-bracketing matching the district champion from each district against the second qualifying school from the opposite side of the state. District 1 champion would play second qualifying team from District 4 while District 1 second qualifying school would play the District 4 champion. The same format would be used for Districts 2 and 3 to determine a champion. The remaining four teams from each of the original districts would then form a group B 16 team playoff format that would be played out similar to the current format based upon the remaining order of finish. • •
4A: Largest Ada 660 smallest Cleveland 497 Difference Ada 1.3x larger 3A: Largest Cache 494 smallest Dewey 366 Difference 1.3x larger
I suggest they form another class that has the 16 largest schools. All teams make the playoffs in football so the number of playoff games remains the same as now and there is no loss in gate revenue.

Let’s be honest. There is no solution where everyone will be happy. I wrote a column about the fact that the majority of schools in Class 6A can compete with Jenks and Union if the schools adopt the mindset needed and put the time, effort, and resources in the football program for an extended period of time. Just like Jenks and Union have done. Outside of that, there is a massive discrepancy between the largest
schools in 6A and the smallest. I support the coaches and ADs for coming up with a plan that is similar to how Texas breaks up 5A for football. Only difference? Texas has 240+ teams in 5A, Oklahoma? 32 in 6A. I also commend the OSSAA for taking the initiative and putting a plan out there that gets the ball rolling. The system is working exactly how it is supposed to.

6A Enrollment?
When discussing football in Oklahoma, is 7A a good idea or bad idea?
Mark Rodgers Co-Publisher
@ M a r k RS p o rt s
Class 7A is a bad idea! There is no easy answer, and maybe no answer at all, for the differential in student population at the very top of Class 6A and the bottom. Essentially, we are talking about three schools with an enrollment over 3,000 (Broken Arrow, Union and Jenks). Broken Arrow has 1,700 more students than the 4th largest school in Oklahoma. The difference between Owasso at #4 and Booker T. Washington at 32 is only 1,200 students. So, splitting the class up into large and small divisions changes absolutely nothing. The real discrepancy is between the top three and the bottom 29. If you took the largest eight schools and put them into a bracket, there is still a huge gap between the eighth largest school and the third.
It is impossible to ignore the advantage gained by having a student body 3x bigger than your competition in any class. In my opinion, this is not the determining factor in winning state titles. Broken Arrow has 33% more students than Jenks, yet has rarely defeated the Trojans on the gridiron and has yet to win a state football title. And while Jenks and Union have won every football championship since 1996, they are not dominating all the other sports. There have been six different schools win the last eight 6A basketball championships. The 2012 Union team was the only won to be
in the top ten of the enrollment numbers. Memorial won a 6A title and now is the 39th largest school in the state. Putnam City won three during that eight year span and currently ranks 15th.
Edmond North has dominated golf and there isn't a clamoring by the golf crowd to come up with another class. A bigger reason for their dominance in football can be explained by the resources provided by the districts, coaching staffs, facilities and the dedication to development in lower grade levels. And elite coaching MUST be factored in. Bill Blankenship, Allan Trimble and now Kirk Fridrich are at the top of their profession. Blankenship has transcended from the High School level to win a conference championship at the NCAA Division-I level. Just like the rampant success enjoyed by Mike Lee in Clinton and Larry McBroom in Ada. Great community resources, tradition and consistency throughout the lower grade levels wins! Those factors far outweigh enrollment in my opinion. And just like in all cycles, the dominance of these schools will come to an end, but not before other teams in 6A find the coaches and the organization to reach the level of the eastern bloc superpowers. Blake Griffin THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT Big deal Blake Griffin of Oklahoma Christian School and the next big deal Megan Henson of Yukon tipoff our basketball coverage
Oklahoma’s own Blake Griffin is becoming the face of the NBA. Let’s look at his journey from high school in Oklahoma to the bright lights of Los Angeles.
VYPE High School Sports Magazine first launched its Central Oklahoma region in November of 2006. It did not take long for us to realize that in December of 2006, it was a must to put this 6-foot-8 phenom from OCS on the cover of the magazine.
Blake Griffin was a force in high school basketball. Teaming with his brother Taylor to win the 2004 and 2005 Class 3A titles, Griffin then repeated again in 2006 and 2007 in Class 2A. Averaging over 20 ppg and 10 rebounds throughout his entire career, Griffin was unstoppable. He received just about every accolade and award a high school player can receive, and then chose to stay close to home and play with Taylor at the University of Oklahoma. It was storybook for me,” said Griffin. “Getting a chance to be successful in high school, then play at OU with my brother.”
Griffin led the Sooners to the 2009 Elite Eight as a sophomore and swept all six national player of the year awards in college basketball. Griffin then became the first overall NBA pick in the 2009. After a knee injury, the Oklahoma City native finally got a chance to show his skills in a full season in the 2010-2011 season, winning Rookie of the Year honors. As the NBA lockout came to a close, the frenzy of the NBA season is starting with Griffin highlighted on the cover of Sports Illustrated in SI’s NBA Preview edition. “It is a pretty cool deal to be

featured,” said Griffin. “I always stay grounded, but I am comfortable with the national coverage.”
No better player or person to be highlighted as Griffin has shown his fun-loving side. He is highlighted in a handful of endorsed commercials and after the 2011 Slam Dunk competition that saw him jump over a KIA, Griffin now finds himself starring in some comical spots for the automotive company. Couple that with some witty commercials for Subway, and Griffin is finding himself portrayed as a “pretty funny guy,” said Subway CEO Fred DeLuca in a recent Forbes interview. “I like to branch out and show the humorous side of things,” said Griffin. “It is what life is all about. Having fun enjoying the game of basketball, and having fun enjoying life.” From high school great to NBA star, Griffin has stayed humble and remembers how much fun it was to be on the cover of on of VYPE’s first issues. “I remember the photo shoot,” said Griffin. “We had a blast and it is cool to see how much the magazine has grown.”

thletes remain one of the highest “at risk” groups for drug and alcohol abuse. Do you know why? A lot of it has to do with peer pressure. But just as there is negative peer pressure on student athletes to drink or take illegal drugs, there can also be positive peer pressure, like that displayed by a young man who attended Bethany High School. Here’s his story in his own words. My name is Chris Chamberlain and I play linebacker for the St. Louis Rams.
I’ve been a part of many teams in my career and I find that one person who is passionate and positive can affect those around them. In high school I was fortunate to play quarterback and free safety and we won a state championship while at Bethany. I was part of a group of seniors who had seen how the abuse of alcohol and other drugs had hurt our team in previous years. A group of us thought that we could have gone further in playoffs and win more games if alcohol and drugs weren’t part of our team’s lifestyle. So we came up with the idea that we wanted all the guys on our football team to sign a pledge to not drink, to not smoke, or do any of those things that might hinder our chances on the field. We all signed it and those of us that didn’t have a problem with alcohol gave up soda. So we’d be sacrificing and giving up something like everyone else. 18

It’s something that I don’t think had ever been done at the school and we ended up winning a state title – The first in our school’s history. By the group of seniors presenting this pledge and committing ourselves to do this, we affected not only ourselves, but we really had a positive influence on all of our teammates around us. Chris’ coach, Rob Renshaw told me, “Chris and the guys did this all on their own. They had a players only meeting and announced the idea of the pledge. They were committed to a clean lifestyle. There was not going to be any drugs, any alcohol, any pot. They got everybody on board and everybody was committed to it. The group of guys on our football team changed the entire attitude of the school.” On our Life of An Athlete on line training program, Chris Chamberlain issues this challenge:
You may be faced with this decision right now. Are you going to go along with the partiers and are you going to fall into that lifestyle, or are you going to be disciplined and obedient and do what you need to do to give yourself the best chance to succeed? We call this “The Chamberlain Challenge” and we are encouraging student athletes all across Oklahoma to take the Chamberlain Challenge and commit themselves to a chemical free lifestyle so they can maximize their athletic talents and be all they were designed to be. So how about you? Will you take the Chamberlain Challenge? If so, we want to
know about it. Send us an email and let us know what you’re doing on your team or at your school to make a positive difference.
Note: FATE will be awarding the first annual Chris Chamberlain award to the outstanding male and female athlete in the state who has done the most to lead a chemical free lifestyle and encourages others to do the same. The award will be given at the Jim Thorpe Association High School Sports Award Banquet July 12, 2012 in Oklahoma City. To nominate a student athlete for the award request a nomination form by emailing jim@ changeyourfate.org.

David Bush Putnam City Combo Guard | 5'10" “It means a lot knowing that I’m in the Elite 8. I’ve worked hard over the past three years and I’ve earned it. It wasn’t just given to me, nothing is given, you have to earn everything. I’m at my best when I’m taking it to the basket and I’m a mid-range pull up shooter. My plan after high school is to attend college and keep my basketball career going. A role model I look up to is
coach Burtschi. When I’m not playing basketball or in class I enjoy hanging with my friends and playing 2k13.”
Editor’s Note
David is the type of player you hate to see get hot if your coaching or playing against. David joins the list of great basketball players to come out of PCO.
Stevie Clark Douglass Point Guard | 5'10" “Making the Elite 8 is an honor and I’m proud to represent my team. After high school I’m going to take my game to Oklahoma State University. I’m looking forward to playing there, but first we have a season to finish at Douglass. The strongest part of my game is my shooting. I can also find the open man and dish. In my free time I like to hang out with friends and
family. Family is important to me because I know they will always be there for me."
Editor’s Note
Stevie has been an electric player for several years. He could go on to have a huge career at OSU. Look for great things from this young man this year and years to come.

I’m a triple threat. I can shoot, drive and dish to the open player. I would like to play basketball at the college level, earn a degree and become a women’s college basketball coach or an NBA commentator. Whitney
Hand is a role model of mine because of her leadership and perseverance through adversity. I don’t have much free time because I also play soccer, but when I do I love hanging out with my teammates because they are my best friends.” Editor’s Note
Bri is a firecracker on the court. She has it all. Speed, vision and a court presence are just a few words to describe her game. This VYPE Top 100 player has what it takes to play at the next level.
Cameerah Graves Edmond Santa Fe Point Guard | 5'8" “I am honored to be in the Elite 8. I work hard and I’m happy that my hard work is being noticed. My defense is the strongest part of my game. My plan after high school is to play basketball in college and major in nursing. My dad is my role model because he is a hard worker and his is very passionate about his work.
In my free time I like to shop, hang out with my teammates and family. One player I like to watch is Kobe Bryant. I admire his game.”
Editor’s Note
Cameerah simply makes things happen on the court. A big reason the Lady Wolves will be tough this year. She has the ability to get other players involved and make them better.
Gioya Carter Carl Albert Shooting Guard | 5'8" “Thank you for selecting me to the Elite 8 team. I’m proud to represent Carl Albert and my teammates. It’s an honor. My plan after high school is to attend the University of Oklahoma where I will continue my basketball career. This year we are motivated to make the state tournament. We’re working hard every day. In my free time I like to hang out with friends and
spend time at my church. The strongest part of my game is making shots and grabbing rebounds. I like to get others involved and I like to play hard.” Editor’s Note

Many times the word “reload” is tossed around in describing domination from one year to the next.
“I don’t know that reload is ever a right word in high school,” Cowherd said, “because you don’t have the opportunity to choose your athletes, the way you do in a collegiate setting. But there is an important factor in an expectation of level of success which helps breed year after year opportunities. Memorial returned just one player, albeit a dandy one in point guard Jordan Woodard, who has already signed with the University of Oklahoma. But Memorial also benefitted from a pair of key moveins in Shaquille Morris (Edmond Santa Fe) and Tyler Holcomb (Stillwater). Both have elevated the Bulldogs’ chances of making another state title run. Morris, a 6-foot-8 post, has already signed with Wichita State. Factor in the 6-5 Holcomb and the Bulldogs have a nice inside-out game going. “Jordan has been with us from the very beginning and that’s important in that your point guard knows the program backwards and forwards and the manner in which we go about our business,” Cowherd said. “To have a kid of his experience at that very crucial position makes it a lot smoother for us in a situation

Up-Tempo style catapults Santa Fe to new level Bass knew when he took over as head coach the Santa Fe girls program, he knew he wanted to run an up-tempo style of play.
“My style is to get after you on defense,” said Bass, who spent six years as an assistant at Santa Fe before taking over the program. “That was the first thing I tried to instill - defense first, offense second.” It’s worked.
Bass has had just one losing season in 11 years.
“If you can get your girls, first and foremost to concentrate on defense, then defense will create your offense,” he said. “When they get to the high school level, they understand two things, you have to play defense and have to be able
to handle the ball.
“In girls high school basketball you have to be able to do those two things. There will be games when you can’t shoot, so what do you do? Play good defense. Players want to play in my system. They like the run and gun, get-in-yourshorts defense. It works in my system.” Bass had to replace seven seniors, including arguably the state’s top player a year ago in Courtney Walker, now a starter at Texas A&M. There is plenty of talent though beginning with returning starter Cameerah Graves at point guard. Tamara Lee joins Graves in the backcourt giving the Lady Wolves the “best backcourt” in the state according to Bass.
“Obviously, the key is having a point guard and I’ve been blessed to have had some great point guards,” he said.
After finishing undefeated (28-0) a year ago, the Lady Wolves suffered a rare loss in the second game of the season, losing to Putnam City 59-58. “We had a learning curve early, in that this group had to learn how to win,” Bass said. “As we left the court, fans were chanting ‘overrated’. It was very quiet in the locker room after the game. Most of those girls had lost only one game in two years.
Cameerah Graves
“They did not take that loss very well. I told the girls as we walked off the court, this had better stick in your craw, because we play this team again in January. That’s when they started to understand how important defense is in a game. Since then, we haven’t given up more than 42 points (heading into the New Year).”
Tamara Lee Since then the team has won seven straight. Among the victories since the Putnam City loss, Santa Fe held then 8th-ranked Union to 30 points and 4A No. 1 Anadarko to 35 points. In fact, this year’s seniors entered the 2012-13 campaign at 55-1. The key to developing talent lies in getting kids early playing time, Bass said. Joining Graves and Lee in logging extensive playing time is sophomore guard Jobi Heath, junior guard Mariah Williams, sophomore twin centers Alaina and Alexis Cooper and freshman Aahilyah Jackson, a 5-10 guard/ forward combo player. Jackson already is gaining national attention after being named to the Adidas Top 60 Freshmen nationally.
“We went about eight or nine deep last year and maybe eight deep this year,” Bass said. “The Cooper twins look like the Paris twins (former OU stars Courtney and Ashley) only shorter. “

Deer Creek
Basketball Looks to make noise After winning 23 games a year ago, everyone connected with the Deer Creek girls basketball team expected similar results this season.
The Lady Antlers are off to a 10-1 start and ranked third in Class 5A under fifth-year head coach Totsy Manning.
“Last year is last year,” Manning said. “We use it as motivation but nothing more. We knew we would only lose one starter, so we knew we would have a lot of leadership. We have a lot of underclassmen. We have a deeper bench than last year.” Junior guard Whitney Jones said the team has a little unfinished business after being eliminated in the Area Tournament last season.
“The season ended sooner than we wanted last year,” said Jones, who averages 10.2 points a game. “We have some business to take care of this season. We are very focused. We have a lot of drive. “We want a state championship. There are some really good teams out there, like East Central and Shawnee. But if we play together and keep our heads high, we have the potential to win.”
What could prove to be the team’s ace in the hole is that opponents will have to defend the whole floor. Anyone of Manning’s five starters – Alexa Adair, Jones, Ashley Gibson, Bailey Winters and Dakota Vann – are capable of leading the team in scoring on any given night. “If opponents decide to double team one player, someone else is open,” Manning said. “You won’t see one player dominate the score box. We can shoot the 3, we have four players capable of bring the ball up at any time. So, whoever gets the rebound and push and go. We definitely like to push the tempo.” Most of Manning’s players are system kids, having grown up in the district. Gibson, a senior, is a three-year starter, as is Jones, a junior, who brings good height (510) to the perimeter. She also is comfortable in the low post. Adair is a big perimeter scoring threat,
who is equally adept at getting the team into its offensive flow.
Blanchard, a 5-11 post, was the MVP of the Durant Tournament. Vann is tough to handle in the low post with her slasher moves to the basket.
Manning is using January and February to prepare her team for the playoffs.
“A tough schedule prepares you for March,” she said. “Survive and advance, that’s what it’s all about.”
The Antlers are off to a 4-6 start, mostly due to injuries to high profile players like Kevin Caudill. The senior VYPE Top 100 guard, suffered an ankle injury early in the season then re-injured the ankle in the team’s game Jan. 8 against Western Heights. “I have a torn ligament,” Caudill said. “Struggle is definitely what it has been. A lot of our guys are battling through injuries. It does give the younger guys playing time and there’s no substitute for varsity playing time. Hopefully, I’ll come back stronger and will be fresh and ready to go for the playoffs.”

What is your favorite bible verse and why? 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18- “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
How have you used your beliefs or your association in FCA to help others or spread the word? FCA has given me the confidence to share the word with other athletes, and also regular students throughout school.

Packing Power
Edmond North Wrestling is dominating and has a chance to upend the perennial 6A champion Broken Arrow Tigers By Lynn Jacobsen The state’s top two Class 6A wrestling teams squared off in the 69th Annual Geary Tournament the first week of January. Broken Arrow, ranked No. 1, and Edmond North, ranked No. 2, each had four wrestlers take individual titles in one of the oldest and most prestigious wrestling tournaments in the state. The Tigers took the team title with 149 points. Edmond North finished second with 128.5 points, the team’s highest finish ever in the Geary Tournament. “This is the highest we have finished at Geary,” said fourth-year head coach Andy Schneider. “Before that, our highest finish there was sixth place.” The Huskies were led by junior triplets Lance, Joel and Andrew Dixon, each of whom won their weight category, and junior Derek White. Lance Dixon defeated Brock Warren of Broken Arrow 4-3 at 182 pounds. Joel earned a 16-4 major decision over Duncan’s Marcus Stewart at 195 pounds and Andrew posted a 7-0 win over Westmoore’s John Finn at 220 pounds. White picked up a technical fall over Westmoore’s Chase Silva at 170 pounds. Seniors Josh Breece (126 pounds) and Jordan Armstrong (120 pounds) have settled in as leaders of the team. Breece finished second at Geary, third at the Kansas City Stampede and won the Mid-America Nationals at Union earlier this year.. Armstrong finished fifth at Geary, losing to a pair of defending state champions. “They do a great job of being team captains,” Schneider said. “Most of the guys will tell you Josh is the hardest worker in the room. This is the first year he has been completely healthy.” The team’s success isn’t by coincidence, Schneider said.
“We took 33 guys to team camp this summer,” said the fourth year head coach. “We had high expectations coming into the season. These guys are committed to the program and really want to better themselves.” Freshman Jordan Prince came into the season ranked No. 1 in state at 106 pounds. “To understand how tough this tournament is, Jordan didn’t place at Geary,” said Schneider. Cy Trindle placed third at Geary at 113 pounds. A state qualifier as a freshman last year, Trindle is off to a good start, said Schneider. The Edmond North coach will continue to test his guys with the upcoming Sapulpa Tournament before participating in the Yukon Tournament. “The Sapulpa Tournament includes the top five Class 6A teams. Collinsville, ranked 18th nationally, Perry and Allen, the No. 1 team in Texas, are both slated to participate in the Yukon tournament. The Huskies are looking to challenge at state as well. The team’s highest finish came in 2002 when they finished second to Broken Arrow. “Our tournament schedule is the toughest in the state,” Schneider said. “The schedule really sets us up. By the time we get to regionals and state, we will be battle tested. I would rather have our guys come in with a few losses from wrestling good talent than go in with sparking records.” Also on the upcoming schedule is the annual Three Dog Night wrestling event for the city championship of Edmond against Memorial and Santa Fe. The Huskies will be going for their 12th consecutive city title.

Seeing
Triple Who is the real Andrew Dixon?
By Lynn Jacobsen It’s a mystery Steve Marshall hopes to unlock on the Inside High School Sports web show. Even mom Linda isn’t sure who among her identical triplets is the ‘real’ Andrew. Three weeks after giving birth, Linda Dixon told IHS that the wristbands identifying each baby had fallen off, leaving even the mother to wonder if she ultimately got the names back on the correct wrist. This much is certain, Linda said, “I know Lance is Lance. I had a feeling that Joel and Andrew were mixed. We took them to the doctor and sure enough their weights had changed. “Andrew had always been the heaviest, Lance had always been the lightest and Joel was always in the middle. It was only a couple ounces difference but it was enough. I took the handprints to the police station but they couldn’t tell. The DNA is identical so we couldn’t tell by that. So I just changed them back.” Andrew was just a little bit better when they were little in every sport they did, Linda said. “One day Joel came home and said, ‘I really wish I was Andrew.’ I said you may be. Andrew could be Joel, Joel could be Andrew but Lance is Lance.” Here’s one fact that cannot be disputed – all three are standout wrestlers in the Edmond North program. The trio dominant the heavier weights on the card with Lance at 182 pounds, Joel at 195 and Andrew at 220. All three came away with victories in the Geary Invitational earlier this month. So, what are the odds of having identical triplets? One is 150,000. The odds all three are competitive? 100 percent. 36
