Pratt: Favorite memory would have to be during my sophomore season. We were playing Bartlesville at home and I had to defend their best receiver AJ Parker. They tried to throw a wheel route to the end zone, but I jumped up and intercepted the ball to give us the last possession. The whole student section was chanting my name, which I hadn’t experienced before. That was my first season to start varsity football so hearing them chanting my name after the catch was the coolest thing ever in my book. Ackerman: My favorite memory about playing football was in 8th grade. We were playing Stillwater and a kid ran a screen route and I hit him really hard when he caught the ball.

Logan: My favorite memory was last year, the season opener against Ponca City! We were down six with less than a minute to go. It was fourth down and we were in the red zone (I think on the 6 yard line). I was supposed to run a slant 1-on-1 with the corner. I made a move and went inside and the linebacker came and helped, so I was double covered at the time. Fred (Lawrence) saw this and tucked the ball. The corner that was guarding me came down to tackle him. I snuck out to the corner of the end zone wailing my arms back and forth to show Fred I was open and he threw it to me and I caught it! Touchdown Enid for the win! Never will forget it.

Seven things to look for in Northwest Oklahoma this football season. B for the last three years but in last year’s title game they lost a wild one to Alex. Make no mistake about it the Tigers want to get back to winning gold balls and not silver. Expect a dominant rushing attack to be the staple of the Laverne game plan this year. 4. Enid begins a new era under head coach Steve Hughes.

Tabor Johns 1. Can Hennessey claim a gold ball in Class 2A? The Eagles have been extremely good over the past decade. They won back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011 and since then have always been a team capable of winning gold. They are loaded again this year behind running back Tabor Johns but can they knock Davis off their perch at the top of the class? Only time will tell. 2. Can Tipton Repeat in Class C?

After winning the gold ball in 2012 the Tigers made it back to the top of the mountain last year with a big win over Cherokee. No team has repeated as Class C champs since Shattuck won six in a row from 2003-2008. The Tigers have the talent to do it but there are plenty of other teams with the talent to win gold as well. 3. Can Laverne win their third state title in four years? 8

AUGUST 2015

The Plainsmen missed out on the playoffs last year and now will be working under a new head coach in Steve Hughes. In 2016 the Plainsmen will be moving up to Class 6A-I so building momentum in 6A-II this year will be key. 5. Is Matt Harman the next record breaker that nobody is talking about?

Cashion gunslinger Matt Harman has won his fair share of games in the last two years. Overall he’s 24-4 as a starter and led his team to a silver ball last year. What people may not realize is that he has put up some jaw-dropping stats. In two years he has thrown for 5,991 yards, that’s more than Victory Christian Keats Calhoon threw for in his first two years and Calhoon is expected to break the all-time passing yards record this season as a senior. Har-

Matt Harmon

Hayden Herrera man is on pace to be in the same conversation.

6. Can Kingfisher get back to the top of the Class 3A mountain? Kingfisher and winning just go together like peanut butter and jelly. The Yellowjackets have gone to the Class 3A semifinals in each of the last four years and won the gold ball in 2013. Nobody is doubting Kingfisher can do it again but in a district with Heritage Hall and Cushing, the two teams that were in the finals last year, it won’t be easy. 7. Will Northwest Oklahoma continue to dominate Class A?

Last year Cashion and Thomas both came out of the northwest area of the state and played for Class A gold. Both teams are extremely talented once again and when you throw in other teams such as Mooreland and Fairview you see just how tough playing in the northwest region of the state really is.

Cross Country teams begin season on Aug. 20.

Enid Cross Country Cross country coach Steve Bloom captains both the boy and girl teams at Enid High School. In 2014, the Pacers finished in tenth place as a

team at the state meet. Four of the seven placers for the Pacers will return to the team in 2015. Junior Briana Brown leads that group. As a sophomore, Brown finished in 42nd place, the highest place of the returning runners. Sophomore Kinley Davis, senior Misha Claytor and junior Madison Blanchard join Brown, and all three runners placed in the state meet at the end of the 2014 season. Senior Morgan Cline will be asked to step in and make major contributions this season.

The Plainsmen had only one runner compete at the state meet in 2014. Senior Gavin Lack finished in the top 50 last season, and he returns to lead the Plainsmen in 2015. Coach

Bloom has a solid group of seniors returning alongside Lack. Jake Taylor, Garrett Wallace and Landon Fenley will compete and aim to be reliable options behind Lack. Sophomore Damion Starr is going to be expected to have a solid impact.

Enid kicks off the season with Enid Invitational on Aug. 20. Both the Pacers and the Plainsmen will need to start off the season strong. With teams like Bartlesville, Jenks, Edmond Memorial and Norman North returning key runners, the Pacers and Plainsmen have their work cut out for them. As the cross country season rolls along, keep an eye out for both Enid cross country teams.

“The biggest goal is to make it to the state tournament, which I truly think is an attainable goal for this team,” Middleton said. “I believe the community will see a team of girls that work hard and take a lot of pride in their school and volleyball program.”

Coach Middleton is expecting a big season from Kaylee Petersen and Nicole Middleton. Both of those girls finished the 2014 season strong, and proved this offseason that they wanted to get better. However, each girl on the team will be integral to the success of the Longhorns.

Middleton said her team focused on getting stronger and faster this offseason. Throughout the season, Middleton plans on having her girls focus on passing and smart placement while hitting. Sharpening these facets of the game will be vital

later in the season. The main goal for Chisholm will be winning the tournaments they plan in throughout the season. Middleton wants to make sure her girls improve each week. Middleton has leadership littered throughout her roster. That leadership will be important later in the season when Chisholm is competing for a playoff spot.

“Most of the girls playing have played volleyball since Chisholm began volleyball five years ago,” Middleton said. “All of the younger girls are able to look up to the juniors and seniors as good role models, which makes the dynamics of the program excellent.” Keep an eye out for the Chisholm Longhorns as the volleyball season gets in full swing.

Savannah Price - OBA Savannah Price is this month’s Athlete of the Month. An upcoming senior and a libero for the volleyball team, Price enjoys volleyball most because of the girls on the team and the “fun they have together while building relationships.” She also is a point guard for the basketball team and a sprinter and long jumper on the track team. When asked how high school sports have helped her develop character, she says it has taught her to “encourage others and stick together through the highs and lows of the season.” A few of her favorite moments from OBA Volleyball are from this past year. “I got to play varsity with my two older sisters and have had the opportunity to play in the state volleyball tournament every year since I was a freshman,” Price said. Price is involved in many student clubs, her church and community.

Enid is in one of the toughest districts, but is ready to meet the challenge. things. Sophomores Lauren Black and Chelsea Salinas are expected to be reliable hitters, as well as reliable defenders. Cusack will ask juniors Alicia Chain and Jashae’ Wilson to come up with more than one big hit this season. These players, combined with the seniors, provide a good balance of leadership throughout the team.

Injuries were a major contributor to the struggles of the Pacers in 2014. Enid plays in a district that saw three teams go to the state tournament last year, including state runner-up Broken Arrow, so avoiding injuries is imperative to success. Coach Marsha Cusack has high hopes for her team this season, and she believes if they stay healthy they have a chance to compete with teams such as Broken Arrow and Owasso. “As long as we are healthy, it should be a successful season,” Cusack said. “We struggled last year with injuries effecting our pitchers and top infielders. Tournament play will be solid and we should come out with some wins. Our district and conference is one

of the toughest in the state, but it should prepare us for the playoffs. We will surprise a lot of teams and have a different line up depending on who is on the rubber.”

Cusack returns seven starters this season. Three of her six seniors have started all four years of their varsity career, which adds excitement. Senior left-hander Ally Lewis will be the anchor in the circle for the Pacers. She is a reliable option, and if she stays healthy, she has a chance to have a big season. Lewis isn’t the only pitcher the Pacers will use this season. Marybel Garcia, Izzy Plunkett and Alivia Sullivan will be asked to give solid performances as well. The Pacers have good depth at the plate and on the defensive side of

“Our leadership is balanced throughout the team due to a love of the game and commitment to each other,” Cusack said. “We have a lot of high quality, devoted players who support and push each other to get better every day.”

Cusack said her team focused on getting stronger and sharpening their defensive skills. The Pacers played slow pitch as a part of their offseason training in order to sharpen their base running skills, as well as defense. There is quite a bit of buzz around the Pacer program, and they are ready to get on the diamond and prove that they belong with the big time programs. As the fastpitch season develops, keep an eye out for coach Cusack’s Pacers.

CHARACTER COUNTS ATHLETE OF THE MONTH WE SALUTE THE STUDENT-ATHLETES WHO MAKE US PROUD ON AND OFF THE FIELD

Ally Lewis – Enid High School Senior Ally Lewis from Enid High School is this month’s Character Counts Athlete of the Month. Lewis is a pitcher for the Lady Plainsmen and with softball as her only sport, she is able to commit much of her time and talent to the sport. “Softball is my favorite because I love the rush I get when I strike someone out and the feeling I get when I’m up to bat,” Lewis said. The team is closely bonded and that has a great impact on the field.

“Having my team always behind me for support and the friendships I have made are the most rewarding part about playing softball here,” Lewis said. Lewis is actively involved in the community, giving pitching lessons to little girls and helping them become better players. “There’s nothing better than a little league girl telling you she wants to be just like you because of your avid love of the game of softball,” Lewis said. For her impact and efforts on and off the field, Ally Lewis is honored with the Character Counts award.

Rick’s Pharmacy Presents

Teacher of the Month Jennifer Burch - Enid High School

Jennifer Burch has spent 17 years as an educator and is currently teaching junior English and coaching basketball at Enid High School. Like most educators Burch was inspired by a former teacher, but not just one. As a student at Mount St. Mary’s in Oklahoma City, Burch was lucky enough to have four teachers that inspired her to become a difference maker in other students lives.

“I had four of the most amazing English teachers when I was in high school at Mount St. Mary’s: Penny Hampton, Talita DeNegri, Mary Lee Gill and Nina Smith. Each of these wonderful women had their own unique teaching style that adapted to different learners. I think my teaching style is a blend of all four of them. I think the quality that all these women shared is that they made each and every student feel important and that each person had the capacity to be great. That’s what I try to do every day whether I’m teaching English or coaching basketball,” said Burch.

While in college at St. Gregory’s Burch made the decision to pursue that career as an educator and coach. “It was between my freshmen and sophomore years at St. Gregory’s College. I played basketball there, and I was working one of the Dale-St. Greg’s summer basketball camps. At that point I realized how much I enjoyed teaching these young girls the game. So I decided teaching and coaching was what I was meant to do,” said Burch. For Burch being on the court or in the classroom, seeing a student connect the dots and grasp what is being taught is what motivates her every day. “For me, whether it’s teaching or coaching, it’s that moment when, after you’ve taught them a skill, they can apply it, master it and see for themselves the importance of it. Something clicks and you can see it on their faces that they get it,” said Burch. Finding balance between coaching and teaching comes easy for Burch.

“I think it’s easy. I’m a teacher first. All day in the classroom I’m in English mode. That’s what those 100-plus kids I have in class are there for. I spend the time to prepare for English and when the last part of the day comes, I switch to basketball mode. I think this is true of most teacher-coaches. I think sometimes coaches get a bad rap. If people saw these teacher-coaches in their classrooms I think they would be so impressed. Some of the best teachers I know are/were coaches too.”

OFFENSE The Mustangs will once again aim to wear opponents down with the old school power running game. After seeing improvements last season, seven starters return to take the Mustangs to the next step. Chris Faw Faw (5-11, 185, Jr.) returns to the quarterback spot. Although they focus on the run game, Faw Faw can make the throws when the Mustangs are in a crunch. The offensive line is the key for any power run team. Fortunately for coach August Overstreet, he has a big, physical, and most importantly, experienced line. Austin Booth (6-1, 210, Sr.) is the anchor for that group from the guard position. Kyle Schmidt (6-0, 250, Sr.) and Cody Smith (6-0, 240, Sr.) join Booth to add depth and experience. JD Valtr (5-9, 185, Jr.) will handle the load in the backfield. DEFENSE The Mustangs are going to be a disciplined, physical defense. Cole Hammock (5-11, 175, Sr.) leads the physical charge from his linebacker position. Kody McVey (5-11, 200, So.) had a productive season as a freshman and will play alongside Hammock in the 3-2. Bucko Gray (5-0, 155, Sr.) is a physical cover corner. Faw Faw will line up at the other corner position. Jamal Phillips (5-8, 195, Sr.) will lead the attack on the edge. “It’s going to be a fun and exciting season,” Overstreet said. “I can not wait to see how it turns out.” Sept. 4 – at Cherokee Sept. 11 – vs. Canton Sept. 18 – at Pond Creek-Hunter Sept. 25 – vs. Laverne Oct. 2 – at Seiling Oct. 9 – vs. Kremlin-Hillsdale Oct. 15 – at Ringwood Oct. 23 – vs. Merritt Oct. 30 – at Waukomis Nov. 6 – vs. Turpin

OFFENSE The Waukomis offense will center around quarterback Justus Crites (5-11, 181, Sr.) this year. Last season Crites helped the Chiefs to a 3-7 record after rushing for 1,103 yards and 13 touchdowns and throwing for 1,043 yards and 10 more touchdowns. Protecting Crites this season will be linemen Jared Lawson (6-3, 310, Sr.) and Hunter Lamle (6-1, 286, Sr.). Other key offensive skill players for the Chiefs will be wide receiver Zach Prince (5-8, 155, Sr.) and running back Riley Williams (5-8, 160, Jr.). A year ago Prince had 483 yards receiving and six touchdowns while Williams ran for 116 yards and also had 286 yards receiving. DEFENSE Williams is the defensive leader for Waukomis and will start at linebacker after making 168 tackles last year and intercepting four passes. On the defensive line Lamle will start at nose guard and team with DK Williams (6-1, 185, Jr.) who will start at defensive end. As a sophomore Williams made 86 tackles and also had two sacks. Finally in the secondary Prince will start at cornerback while Crites will start at safety. KREMLIN-HILLSDALE BRONCS

COACH: JEREMY BRASHEARS ENROLLMENT: 88 LAST 5 YEARS: 2010 - 0-10 2011 - 0-10

OFFENSE Ball control is the name of the game for the Broncs. Head coach Jeremy Brashears believes firmly in the philosophy of dictating the pace of the game and winning the battle at the line of scrimmage. “We are a run-oriented team focused on leads, traps and dives. Our goal is to average six yards per play and control the tempo of the game,” said coach Brashears. The player in charge of that control is quarterback Elijah Voth (6-0, 175, Sr.). Voth is a threat with the ball in his hands and can make the throws when called upon. Running backs Kass Bittle (5-9, 170, Sr.) and Noah Garvin (5-10, 165, Sr.) will tote the rock and lead block through the hole. Offensive line coach James Craig is excited to see Briley Craig (5-11, 205, Jr.) and Austin DeSilva (5-9, 210, Jr.) get after it this season. Their play will go a long way in determining how successful the offense can be running the veer. DEFENSE The 3-2-3 is the winning formula for the Broncs on defense. Coach Brashears and defensive coordinator Tyler Severin believe they have the linebackers that can stop the run and the secondary that can defend against the pass. Bittle and Voth start at linebacker, while Craig and DaSilva will play up front. Seth Schrader (5-10, 150, Jr.) gets the nod in the secondary and will help younger players mature into starting roles. “This group of boys has made the choice to take responsibility for their future. They have chosen to greet this season with a decided heart, allowing the goals they have set guide the choices they make. We have had the best turnout for summer pride that I have seen in several years. They are working hard to get better every day and are holding each other accountable for their actions. The future is very exciting at Kremlin-Hillsdale,” said Brashears. COVINGTON-DOUGLAS WILDCATS COACH: BRIAN SMITH ENR: 78 LAST 5 YEARS: 2010 - 11-2 2011 - 9-3

2012 - 5-5 2013- 2-8 2014 - 6-5

OFFENSE The Wildcats may be more like magicians this season running multiple sets with many different formations as they search for balance in the offense. Head coach Brian Smith said the team is, “the team is excited to build off of last year’s success.” Tailback Connor Nunley (5-11, 165, Jr.) was a big reason the Wildcats had that success in 2014. Nunley rushed for 1,668 yards, had 205 yards receiving and scored a total of 25 touchdowns. Quarterback Hunter Carl (5-11, 160, Sr.) returns after throwing for more than 1,000 yards on 75 completions. He also added 786 yards rushing. One player the team missed last season due to injury was Phillip Nunley (6-3, 220, Sr.). Nunley will start on the offensive line, but could see time in the backfield at fullback. Matt Kroll (6-0, 225, Sr.) is another offensive lineman that may bounce to tight end depending on the formation and situation. Easton Maxwell (6-5, 265, Sr.) recorded 279 yards on 27 receptions at tight end last year. Overall the offense has the talent force teams into bad matchups. If they can exploit those mismatches the Wildcats could come out on top more often than not this season. DEFENSE Coach Smith is excited to see this defense take the field as several key players return with another year of experience under their belts. “We have good size up front, but need to improve our open field tackling and get stops. We have playmakers in the second and third levels. Just need to stay healthy,” said Smith. Phillip Nunley and Matt Kroll will start at end, while Hunter Carl and Gavin Smith (5-10, 160, So.) get the nod at linebacker. Both guys could play in the secondary depending on the situation. Smith had 66 tackles and five sacks last year. Brandon Row (5-10, 140, Jr.) will start at corner giving the Wildcats another quick player on the edge. Row grabbed two interceptions last year to go with his 42 tackles. Look for the Wildcats to run a 4-1 scheme on defense this season. Quick Hits: The Plainsmen had a penchant for close games in 2014. Four of their ten contests were decided by three points or less. Enid emerged victorious in only one of those games.

Enid is currently riding a twogame losing streak to Stillwater. The Plainsmen have defeated the Pioneers in just three of the last 19 meetings. The Plainsmen have won nine of their last twelve season openers, including two in a row at Bruce Selby Stadium. Last 5 Years: 2014 - 4-6 2013 - 3-7 2012 – 3-7 2011 – 2-8 2010 – 5-5

OFFENSE The Enid Plainsmen are getting a new coach and a complete program makeover. Steve Hayes was hired at the end of 2014, after 11 successful years at Trinity Christian Academy in Addison, Texas. an Enid squad that has struggled the past few years. The last three years, the Plainsmen have gone 3-7, 3-7 and 4-6 respectively. Hayes has his work cut out for him, but it is a challenge the new coach is ready to take on. Five starters return to the offensive side of the ball in 2015. The Plainsmen have a solid core of skill players returning. Running back Devin Pratt (5-11, 210, Sr.) leads that group. After a solid effort last season, Pratt hopes to build on his numbers, which he hopes can lead to wins. The Plainsmen have a deep receiving core to help their young quarterback. Squire Logan (6-0, 185, Sr.) will be the top target, as he can impact the game in more ways than just through the air. Deion Smith (5-11, 168, Sr.) has explosive speed and is a tremendous playmaker. His role will expand in coach Hayes’ spread offense. Brian Banks (6-0, 165, Sr.) rounds out the trio of receivers who are expected to elevate the offense. He has solid hands, and is a good blocker on the outside. Dolan Burrow (5-8, 170, Sr.) will split time with Pratt in the

backfield. He is more of a speed back who compliments Pratt’s power running game well. The two-headed running attack should take some pressure off of the passing game.

DEFENSE On defense, the Plainsmen have only three starters returning. Logan and Smith will serve as two-way players for coach Hayes. Logan plays safety, and his ability to make plays when the ball is in the air makes him a good last line of defense. Smith is a cover

Gavin Richmond, Squire Logan, James Ackerman corner who has solid tackling ability. Coach Hayes has a deep linebacker core. This is vital in Hayes’ 4-3 defensive scheme. James Ackerman (5-10, 170, Sr.) is the vocal leader of the trio, and his tackling ability is top notch. Kros Bay (5-10, 190, Jr.) is the youngest of the three, but his ability to pick up schemes quickly gives him a major advantage. His effort never falls short, and he is always encouraging his teammates. Chase Conder (5-10, 200, Sr.) rounds out the trio of backers. He is a powerhouse who can disrupt an opponent’s running game. Hayes stresses attacking and forcing turnovers in his defense, and these linebackers will have to enforce those points. The attacking starts with them, and they should be able to disrupt opposing offenses.

CHISHOLM LONGHORNS Coach: JOEY REINART Last 5 Years: 2014 - 9-3 2013 - 9-2 2012 - 5-5 2011- 4-7 2010 – 1-9 Enrollment: 287

OFFENSE With good team speed and an effective running game the Chisholm Longhorns could turn some heads this season. Head coach Joey Reinart likes what he has seen in spring practice, but knows they have a few questions to answer. “We have lots of opportunities for new faces to make their mark. The team has good experience in key position. Our quarterback has played extensively at several positions, but he will be a first time starter at quarterback,” said Reinart. That first time starter is Bailey Cross (6-0, 170, Sr.). Not a stranger to the field, Cross has several seasons under his belt, but adjusting to the quarterback position can prove to be a challenge for some. Look for Cross to make the transition and become the quarterback coach Reinart believes he can be. Luke Ball (6-0, 165, Sr.) will play multiple positions including running back and wide receiver. Joining Ball in the backfield is junior Connor Pasley (5-8, 165) and Mason McKee (5-10, 170, Jr.). The pair give the coaching staff more options in the running and short yardage passing games. Cooper Savage (6-1, 170, Sr.) is a big target that figures heavily in the passing attack. DEFENSE The Longhorns should be effective against stopping the run. Coach Reinart said the defense has “good athletes” and should be “very capable” this season. Jake Curless (5-11, 230, Sr.) locks up one of the linebacker spots and could slide up to the line to play some defensive tackle. Canaan Hancock (6-3, 210, Sr.) will set the edge from his defensive end position. Hancock has the length to get up field and contain the edge. Beaux Biggers

AUGUST 2015

OFFENSE Led by dual-threat quarterback Baylor Boyd (6-1, 190, Sr.) the Trojans will be looking to make some noise in Class A this year after losing in the first round of the playoffs last season. Boyd started at quarterback last season as well but the Trojans will bring back just two other offensive starters from a year ago meaning that many younger players will get their turn to shine this fall. When Boyd drops back to pass his first look will most likely always be to wide receiver Camden Roggow (6-0, 155, Sr.). Tight end Mason Brinley (6-4, 195, Sr.) will also be one of Boyd’s favorite targets this season. Helping to take some of the burden off Boyd this season will be a strong running game. Brice Snapp (5-11, 188, Jr.) and Kolton Watkins (6-1, 180, Jr.) will spearhead the rushing attack this year splitting carries in the backfield. DEFENSE On the defensive side of the ball Boyd and

(5-10, 190, Jr.) is another linebacker that the team is excited to see get on the field. Biggers and Cross join Curless to give the Longhorns three players capable of making big plays on every down. Ball will bounce to the secondary to shore up the defensive backfield. The 4-4 scheme will fit their personnel well as the Longhorns take the field on September 4th against Okeene.

Snapp will be the Trojans’ strongest linebackers this year and their leaders in the middle of the field. Roggow will also be a key player for the OBA defense this year starting at defensive back. Also in the secondary, look for Jesse Long (5-7, 150, Sr.) to make a large amount of pays for the Trojans. Grayson Feist (6-0, 155, Sr.) may be undersized for a defensive lineman but he brings an element of quickness and a nose for the football to his spot at defensive end.

OAKWOOD MALL ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Luke Ball - Chisholm Football This month’s Athlete of the Month is Chisholm’s Luke Ball. He will be a senior this fall and plays wing-back and free safety for the football team. He also plays basketball and baseball but enjoys football most because of the “contact and thrill of playing in front of the community.” He says it is very rewarding playing for Chisholm seeing the “countless hours put in and getting to reap the rewards” on the field. Some of Ball’s favorite moments are getting to play in the playoffs for the past two years and winning the opening game last year. “Seeing the underclassmen succeed after all the hard work they have put in to help out the older players shows how important we are to each other as a team,” Ball said. A player who thrives on the community’s pride and support, an involved student and a great athlete, Luke Ball is this month’s Athlete of the Month.

CHEROKEE CHIEFS COACH: BRYCE SCHANBACHER ENROLLMENT: 88 LAST 5 YEARS: 2010 - 14-0 2011 - 8-3 2012 - 12-1 2013 - 12-0 2014 - 12-1

OFFENSE Head coach Bryce Schanbacher returns six starters from a team that went 12-1 and played for a state championship. “This group has played together since grade school. We’re looking forward to an outstanding season,” said Schanbacher. Quarterback Cole Dewitt (6-2, 170, Sr.) has looked good in spring practice and continues to improve in all areas of his game. The running game may be the strength of the offense thanks to a pair of running backs in Austin Guffy (5-8, 165, Sr.) and Avery Bagenstos (6-1, 180, Sr.). Guffy and Bagenstos give the offense a good one-two punch. One are the team will not struggle is the offensive line. Grant Wilber (511, 225, Sr.) and Hunter Jordan (6-1, 170, Sr.) may be the best pair of O-lineman in Class C. Their play will determine how successful this offense can be in 2015. “We have a talented offensive line with lots of experience,” said Schanbacher. DEFENSE The 3-2 scheme the Chiefs will run this year plays into their strengths. Wilber and Jordan will start on the defensive line, while Bagenstos will start at linebacker. “Defensively we will need to

replace two linebackers and one defensive end, but overall we should put out another stout defense,” said Schanbacher. The secondary looks strong with Guffy and Dewiit playing corner. The defense will be key if the Chiefs are going to play for another state title. The runnerup trophy is nice, but this group wants more. COACH: MARK HARMON ENR: 108 LAST 5 YEARS: 2010 - 5-5 2011 - 4-6 2012 - 9-3 2013 - 6-4 2014 - 8-3

OFFENSE Only two starters return to the Garber offense but that doesn’t mean that the cupboard is completely bare for head coach Mark Harmon. “We sent two kids to play college ball, and had five eightman all-staters off of the 2014 team so the lack of experience and returning starters is something of a concern early; but we have over 30 kids on the roster this year and they have had a great summer. It’s time for those kids to step up and I’m sure they will,” Harmon said. On the offensive line Kutter Goodspeed (5-10, 200, Sr.) will

be a player the Wolverines can count on to open up holes on a consistent basis. Meanwhile at receiver look for Caylen Enfield (6-1, 170, Sr.) to step into a much bigger role this season after catching 13 passes for 301 yards and one touchdown last year. Cristian Gomez (5-9, 165) could see time at quarterback this year although Ringwood transfer Cole Swart (6-1, 180) could also play some quarterback this season but may also line up at receiver.

DEFENSE On the defensive side of the ball Goodspeed will start at defensive end after recording 97 tackles and six sacks in 2014. Nose guard Beau Gaines (6-0, 210, So.) will join Goodspeed up front and look to improve on his 90 tackles and two sacks from a year ago. Gomez and Swart will also be key figures for the Garber defense this year with both players starting in the secondary. Last season Gomez recorded 110 tackles and one interception. *No Schedule Provided. Please send schedule to Oklahoma@ VYPE.com and check back at VYPEOK.com

The Cardinals finished last season with a 4-6 record and this season bring back four offensive starters to build around. Alex Koehn (6-1, 180, Sr.) will start at quarterback for the Cardinals and be joined in the backfield by running back Cayde Newman (6-1, 205, Sr.). Joseph Jantzen (6-2, 185, Jr.) will split his time this year between tight end and receiver depending on how the Cardinals line up. On the offensive line Trevor Scott (6-0, 315, Sr.) will anchor things in the trenches for Medford. “We won a few games last year and are looking to possibly break into the district’s top four this year and secure a playoff spot,” head coach Michael Thompson said. DEFENSE In Medford’s 4-2 base defense Jantzen will start at defensive end this year and team with Curtis Graham (6-0, 175, Jr.) on the defensive line. Newman will start at linebacker for the Cardinals this year as will Matt Yunker (5-7, 155, Jr.). In the secondary look for Koehn to be a big time playmaker that is just as likely to pick off a pass as he is to lay a bone-rattling hit and force a fumble. OFFENSE Alva has a strong tradition of winning. That is why last season’s 0-10 record stung so much for fans of the black and gold. This season, new Tevin Long head coach Taylor Schwerdtfeger hopes to get the Goldbugs back to winning ways in part thanks to a spread offensive attack. Quarterback Austin Shklar (5-10, 185, Jr.) will be the man in charge of running that offense. Shklar will have a multitude of receivers to distribute the ball to but chief among them will be Tevin Long (5-11, 180, Sr.) and Seth Milledge (5-10, 165, Jr.). Bradyn Gragg (6-3, 180, Sr.) and Noah McOsker (6-0, 185, Sr.) will also be expected to pull in a good number of receptions this season. “We are putting a completely new system in place. our current players,” Schwerdtfeger said.

DEFENSE On the defensive line Travis Costello (6-3, 190, Sr.) will be a major disruption for opposing offenses as a pass rushing defensive end. Linebackers Ethan Harzman (6-0, 205, Jr.), Chase Jones (5-11, 195, Jr.) and Ridge Hughbanks (6-2, 185, Sr.) will also all be key members of Alva’s front seven. In the secondary Seth Milledge (5-10, 165, Jr.) will be the team’s leader at strong safety. “Again this a completely new system and we have a lot of ground to make up. We are very young and literally focusing on the most simple fundamentals,” Schwerdtfeger said. “We hope to play aggressive and fast, gaining some confidence heading into district play.”

Lady Bugs are hoping to continue to improve under new head coach Margo Hamilton. Last season a very young Alva Lady Bugs softball team battled their way to a record of 21-16 under head coach Paul Duncan. This year Margo Hamilton will take over the reins of the program for Duncan. Hamilton has been at Alva for several years now coaching multiple sports but will begin her first season on the diamond in 2015. Hamilton credited Duncan for the job he did and what he was able to accomplish as well as going on to say she is expecting big things from the team this year. “I think coach Duncan did a great job last year. They were over .500

and played extremely hard,” Hamilton said. “This year we are going to be very young but I have high expectations. Hopefully we can continue to develop our fundamentals along with depth in our pitching staff and come together to prosper and grow as a team.”

Leading the team this year will be a host of players who all saw solid time last year. Senior Natalie Seevers is one of those players. Seevers is a versatile athlete who can play both in the infield and in the outfield for the Lady Bugs and will hit at the top of the lineup as a slap hitter. Also part of that group is catcher Ally Riley. Riley led the team in hits last season and Hamilton praised not only her bat but also her ability to play multiple

spots on the field if need be.

Senior Cede Kirkhart should also play a big role this year making a big difference in the dugout and on the field with her positive leadership skills. Rozlynn Murrow rounds out the group of Alva seniors and could be due for a breakout season in 2015 after being sidelined with health issues last year. As far as underclassmen go look for sophomore Camryn Wren to be a major contributor. Wren burst onto the scene last year as an all-conference player and should have another big year this season. “I think it all comes down to our pitching. If we can continue to improve in that area I think everything else will come,” Hamil-

ton said about her team.

Another thing Hamilton believes will help the Lady Bugs this year is the success of the Alva girls basketball team who has won back-to-back state titles and the Lady Bugs track team who finished as state runner-ups in the spring.

“I think having that experience of success will help us. We only hae one or two girls who don’t play on one or both of those teams and they know how to win and what it takes to get there,” Hamilton said. “I think it just makes them that much more hungry; and as a coach that’s exciting. It’s exciting to know you have a team that is hungry to win and get better every day.”

Lady Boomers are expecting another deep postseason run. time at either shortstop of first base according to MacArthur.

In 2014 the Woodward Lady Boomers advanced all the way to the regional tournament finals and were just two wins away from the Class 4A state tournament before seeing their season come to a close with a loss to Tuttle. This year J MacArthur slides over to take the reins as the head coach of the program after coaching baseball last season and helping with the junior high and high school softball programs. MacArthur said his goals for the team this year are to build on what the team accomplished last year.

just so deep, you are going to have to go out and beat somebody good early to prove that you are one of those top teams.” Leading the team this year will be a duo of junior pitchers that both got experience last season. Those hurlers Leah Appebee and Sierra Whipple will both see quality time in the circle this year.

Other key players for the Lady Boomers will be seniors Devre Newby, Kameron “We are just going to try and use our Pope, McKenzie senior leadership and athletic ability Hunter and to build on our trip to the regional Rachael Dierks. A finals last year. We are setting our versatile athlete, goals high and we feel like anything Newby can play short of getting back to the regional both shortstop finals would be a disappointment,” or in the outfield MacArthur said. “In 4A though there if need be. Pope are so many good teams, especially meanwhile is likely on the west side of the state so it to start at third all depends on where you wind base with Hunter up going in the postseason. We starting behind just want to get a good start, finish the plate. Finally, with a good record and try to set Deirks will play in ourselves up to host a regional. It’s the infield seeing

Junior Natelie Semmel and sophomore Maison Mosseley are also returning starters for the Lady Boomers that will again play major roles this year. Semmel is capable of playing either first base or catcher while Mosseley will bring her speed and athleticism to the outfield. MacArthur also said that freshman Kirsten Hines will also likely step right in and see major varsity time this year.

“We have about 14 girls who will play for us. I really think our depth will be a big strength,” MacArthur said.

Jesus Fraire OFFENSE If you’re a fan of ball control and smashmouth football then the 2015 version of the Boomers might be right up your alley. With four returning starters on offense head coach Darris Servis expects younger players to step up and be relied upon to fill starting roles on offense. “Talented but young and unproven. We had an excellent spring and appear to be physical; but must continue to work to improve in all phases. Offensive line is much improved from last year. We’re very talented and

have good size on the line,” said Servis. Center Tafton Reynolds (5-11, 262, Sr.) is the leader of the offensive line and will help younger players mature. Quarterback Kade Marlatt (5-10, 170, Sr.) is athletic enough to play some wide receiver in certain sets. Marlatt has a truckload of running backs in the backfield. Caleb Reddin (5-10, 200, Sr.) and Jesus “Chewy” Fraire (5-9, 155, Jr.) will share some of the carries, but both are capable of making big plays. Carson Hodgden (5-10, 175, Sr.) is a dual threat player at running back and wide receiver. The offense will set up the play action passing game with the run. Look for coach Servis to turn up the heat and put the pressure on opposing defenses. DEFENSE The Boomers are known for playing tough defense. The 2015

team will keep with that tradition as they return five starters from 2014. “The defense will be aggressive, attacking, physical team with the ability to get in a variety of fronts and coverages, said Servis. It starts up front with defensive end Cameron Vaverka (6-1, 220, So.). Only a sophomore Vaverka has shown he can play at the varsity level and pressure quarterbacks with the best ends in the class. Nose guard Cody Day (5-9, 280, Sr.) and defensive tackle Dillon Clingenpeel (6-0, 230, Jr.) will be major hindrances to opposing offenses attempting to gain yards up the middle. Linebacker Logan Long (6-5, 240, Jr.) can plug holes on the line and create problems in the passing game. Reddin will move to the defensive side of the ball to play linebacker with Long. With multiple sets and coverages the Boomers will shift in and out of will confuse most opponents and force mistakes.

OFFENSE The Indians used its highpowered offense to explode to wins in its first three games until injuries hampered Shattuck’s expectations and resulted in a 6-3 season including a first round Class C playoff ticket. Among the six returning starters on offense are four All-District performers including quarterback Skylar Pshigoda (5-8, 170, Sr.) along with running backs Braxton Bruce (6-0, 185, Sr.) and Jake Bay (6-0, 175, Jr.) plus offensive lineman Preston Deal (6-3, 220, Sr.). DEFENSE Head coach Tyson Bullard will scheme his 3-2 defensive unit to take advantage of returning lettermen who gained valuable playing experience last season. Among the six starters Jake Bay created game-changing moments at linebacker along with Braxton Bruce while Preston Deal returns to anchor the defensive front. “Last year’s rookies are this year’s veterans,” said Bullard. “The experiences of playing on Friday night last year will improve our chances this year. DEFENSE Eight starters return to the aggressive Bearcat defense. This unit is deep at all three levels, and many of the offensive stars play defense. He finished with 80 tackles and three interceptions as a junior. Taydon Harper (6-3, 225, Sr.) wreaks havoc up front, and he will continue to do so this season. He finished with 83 tackles, three sacks and a defensive touchdown. Murray joins Miller in the secondary, adding depth to that level. Murray had 31 tackles and three picks, two of which went for a touchdown. Slater Zimmerman (6-0, 170, Sr.) recorded 81 tackles, one sack and one interception as a junior. OFFENSE Legendary coach Tim Allen and the Tigers were riding a 40 game winning streak before the Class B state final game, where Alex upset the Tigers 68-64, ending the streak. They were going for their third state title in a row before the loss. The 40 game winning streak was the seventh longest winning streak in the entire nation. After the season, Allen stepped down, and long-time assistant Chris Cayot takes over. With some key players leaving, the Tigers have some work to do to get back to top form. Running back Hunter Person (5-11, 165, Jr.) returns after a productive sophomore campaign. Dalton Sparks (5-11, 190, Jr.) will split time with Person in the backfield. Ihzain Castillo (6-2, 180, So.) set the record for the most receiving yards in a state title game as a freshman last season. He is poised to have a big season. Brayson Howard (5-10, 215, Sr.) will be the anchor on the offensive line. DEFENSE Many of the key offensive players are stars on the defensive side of the ball as well. Trenton McConnel (6-0, 195, Sr.) and Howard compose the linebacker core; with Lane Fanning (5-9, 160, Jr.) adding depth to that group. Tracer Raven (5-11, 185, Jr.) is an attacking defensive end in the heralded 3-2 defense the Tigers are famous for. His attack of the edge will be key. 2014 - 4-6

OFFENSE The Trojans are looking to run a more balanced attack on offense with a solid mix of run and pass. Ben Cooper (5-11, 160, Sr.) threw for 679 yards and 10 touchdowns added to the 818 yards rushing and another 11 touchdowns on the ground. Last season was very productive for Cooper, but his senior season could be his best year on record. Konner Harris (510, 230, Sr.) is a powerful runner who rushed for 1,435 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2014. Harris is one of the toughest players to bring down in the class. Benefiting from Harris and his ability to clear a hole is running back Justin Custar (5-8, 170, Jr.). Last season Custar rushed for 726 yards and 10 touchdowns. This offense will depend on two solid offensive linemen in Nick Green (6-1, 275, Jr.) and Tucker Huffman (6-0, 240, So.). “This season we hope to compete for a playoff spot,” said Rustin Donaldson. DEFENSE The same cast of characters will slide to the defensive side of the ball where coach Donaldson believes the team is improved from last season. “We are a much improved defensive team. Lots of freshmen played the entire season last year and will have a full year of experience as sophomores,” said Donaldson. Harris and Custar will start at linebacker, while Cooper will move to safety. Green and Huffman will move to the defensive line in the 3-2 scheme. OFFENSE The Bison took a step back in 2014, failing to win a game. Injuries were a major factor,

but coming into 2015, seven experienced starters return on offense. The Bison struggled to finish drives, and holding onto the ball was an issue. Coach Dusty Yauk is ready to see his young guys thrive. “I’m excited about the future that these young kids have,” Yauk said. “If we can stay healthy, and continue to push each other, the future is bright.” Cristian Sarabia (5-10, 160, Sr.) returns after an outstanding junior season, where he gained 2,500 all-purpose yards. Austin Stewart (6-0, 230, Jr.) will anchor the offensive line after gaining great experience as a sophomore. Hunter Barton (6-1, 240, So.) joins Stewart up front, adding depth. Jakoby Carter (5-10, 140, So.) saw time at the quarterback position last year, and he is expected see more playing time there this year. DEFENSE Seven starters return to the defensive side of things, many of them play offense as well. The Bison started five freshmen on defense last year, and they were often overmatched. With another year of workouts under their belts, they should drastically improve. Sarabia is an impact

player on this side of the ball as well. He finished with 130 tackles and two interceptions last year. Luis Villa (5-9, 150, So.) had a productive freshman season, racking up 86 tackles. Barrett Cosby (6-0, 155, Sr.) finished with 42 tackles and two interceptions from the secondary last season. DEFENSE Five starters return to the Wildcat defense. New head coach Brian Haynie knows how important defense is to a successful season. “We have to improve on this side of the ball,” Haynie said. “We are learning a new scheme this year and five returning starters should help out.” Matt Whetstone (6-0, 200, Sr.) is an experienced defensive lineman. He will anchor that unit. Trystin Duffy (5-9, 160, Jr.) lines up at outside linebacker. He is a good tackler but he can cover receivers and running

backs. House plays the other outside linebacker position. White is a linebacker/defensive back hybrid player. His size and speed make him a dangerous defender. Thurber is the heart of the defense at the middle linebacker position.

DEFENSE On defense, many familiar faces appear from the offensive side of the ball. Irwin is the leader of the defense at his linebacker position. Lucas is the anchor on the defensive line as well. Ools joins Irwin in the linebacker core. Bromlow is a lockdown cornerback who will be expected to cover big time opponents this season. Chris Sanders (5-10, 240, Jr.) joins Lucas on the defensive line. He is a tremendous pass rusher.

Kobey House (6-0, 175, Jr.) and Colby Thurber (6-2, 220, Jr.) will split time at tight end. House is a talented pass catcher, while Thurber is an impact blocker when he lines up next to the tackles. OFFENSE Fairview lost several starters to graduation, but according to the 2014 roster they do return several key players in important positions. Jensen Smith (5-10, 170, Sr.) is a good candidate to be the team’s starting quarterback this year. Nick Berlingeri (5-10, 180, Jr.) is back at wide receiver and Logan Quiring (5-7, 160, Jr.) looks to be the go-to guy in the running game. Virgil Irwin (6-0, 210, Sr.) and Zac Bromlow (5-6, 145, Jr.) compose the Red Devil backfield. Irwin is a big physical back, while Bromlow uses his speed to get past defenders. OFFENSE After the semifinal loss to Cushing last season head coach Jeff Myers knew the team needed to get back to their roots and bring back that winning mindset and Yellowjacket poise that was evident in big games. For Kingfisher it all starts with the offensive line and senior Landon Forman (6-5, 250). Forman needs to become one of the leaders

of this team and help younger underclassmen understand what it takes to be a starter at the varsity level. Gabe Rednose (6-3, 245, Sr.) is another senior that brings leadership and some attitude to the field. Forman and Rednose are the cornerstones of what could become a great offensive line. One player excited to see this line come together is Tucker Arrington (5-11, 190, Sr.). Arrington will compete for the quarterback job and should see time at H-back. Arrington is a strong runner and makes good decisions with the football. Reid Trout (5-11, 180, Sr.) will join Arrington in the backfield as the Yellowjackets look to establish the run in a pass happy class. “We’re trying to get our mental edge back. Not that we lost it, but maybe we got a little complacent after several winning seasons that included a state title in 2013. The kids have worked hard this summer. We’re refocused and getting better every day,” said coach Myers. DEFENSE Graduation did create opportunity on the defensive side of the ball. Several underclassmen will need to step up and fill in this season. Arrington will start at linebacker giving the Yellowjackets another season with a natural born leader at the position. Kolton Mueggenborg (6-3, 245, Sr.) has the athleticism to play defensive end or tackle. Mueggenborg is joined on the line by Rednose and Chase Cluck (Jr.). Chase Foley (5-10, 180, So.) is a player the coaching

staff is excited to get back on the field. Only a sophomore, Foley has shown he has the tools to become an impact player. Beau Jenkins (Sr.) is a move-in from Okeene. Jenkins can play multiple positions including corner and could see time at quarterback, which is what he played for Okeene. “Our district is tough with Heritage Hall and Cushing. We’re looking forward to the challenge,” said Myers.

THOMAS-FAY-CUSTER TERRIERS COACH: BOB WARD ENROLLMENT: 131 LAST 5 YEARS: 2010 - 12-2 2011 - 13-1 2012 - 11-1 2013 - 10-2 2014 - 15-0

OFFENSE The Thomas Terriers return as the defending state champions after defeating Cashion, 28-0 in the finals. The 2015 version of the Terriers is similar to the team that went the distance. With a big offensive line and quick skill players, the Terriers look more like the favorite every day. “We have a big, experienced line. We will need to rely on our running game,” said coach Bob Ward. The running game will feature VYPE Top 100 selectee Hayden Herrra (5-8, 150, Sr.). Herrera rushed for 2,066 yards on 175 carries and scored 24 touchdowns. The offensive line is the second part of the running game equation. Trenton Mannering (6-3, 250, Sr.), Dalton Justice (6-3, 320, Sr.) and Keefer Royalty (6-2, 185, Sr.) are all three year starters. This trio of linemen could be the best unit in the class. Quarterback Tanner Johnson (5-9, 155, Sr.) will be the signal caller in 2015. Last year Johnson rushed for 457 yards on 43 carries and scored four touchdowns. DEFENSE Linebacker Kopper Marsh (5-9, 160, Sr.) leads the way on defense. Marsh recorded 108 tackles and five sacks. Johnson will play alongside Marsh at linebacker and could see time in the secondary. Johnson had three interceptions in 2014. Mannering will start at

defensive end, while Robert Comstock (6-3, 280, Sr.) gets the nod at nose guard. Herrera will play the free safety spot where his 66 tackles and two picks will come into play. “We look forward to the 2015 season. We lost a lot of good seniors from last year, but still have a good nucleus to be successful. We expect our kids to play hard and with a lot of effort,” said coach Ward. POND-CREEK-HUNTER PANTHERS COACH: DAVID KERR ENROLLMENT: 92 LAST 5 YEARS: 2010 - 8-3 2011 - 8-3 2012 - 12-2 2013 - 12-2 2014 - 10-2

OFFENSE The Panthers roared their way to the second round of the Class B playoffs before Dewar eliminated them, leaving them with a 10-2 record and a sour taste in their mouths. After three successful seasons in a row, coach David Kerr hopes to finally capture the ultimate prize: a gold ball. With little to no experience coming back, the Panthers have their work cut out for them. They will try to get the ball to their athletes in the open field. Running back Devan McKee (6-0, 175, Sr.) will be the key player on both sides of the ball, especially offense. He gained 1,075 yards on the ground and scored 16

Matt Farrow touchdowns. Quarterback Cole Jones (6-0, 165, So.) will be asked to mature quickly. Jevan Overton (6-3, 185, Jr.) will be an impact blocker and pass catcher from the tight end position.

DEFENSE Overton and McKee are important defensive players as well. Overton is an impact linebacker who likes to hit and has solid tackling skills. He finished with 145 total tackles last year. McKee is a cover corner who will cover the best receiver on the field, Blake Rayner (6-2, 165, Jr.) can be found at the safety position where he protects the back end of the defense. “We won’t be very big so we will have to use our quickness and be aggressive,” Kerr said. CASHION WILDCATS

COACH: LYNN SHACKLEFORD ENROLLMENT: 135 LAST 5 YEARS: 2010 - 11-2 2011 - 6-6 2012 - 13-1 2013 - 10-3 2014 - 14-1

OFFENSE A year ago the Wildcats went undefeated in the regular season. Then they won fourstraight playoff games to reach the Class A finals. Unfortunately for the Cashion faithful that was where the winning stopped as Thomas knocked off the Wildcats by a final score of 280, leaving the Wildcats taking home the silver ball instead of the gold they had hoped for. This year the Wildcats will turn to a talented group of skill players led by VYPE Top 100 selection Matt Harman (Jr.) at quarterback. Last season Harman threw for 3,237 yards and 39 touchdowns and will be counted on to play at a high level again this year. Running back Blakely Liebmann (Sr.) and wide receiver Josh Hampton (Sr.) will also be key players in the Cashion offense this year. In 2014 Liebmann ran for 843 yards and 18 touchdowns while Hampton caught 64 passes for 927 yards and 11 scores. DEFENSE On the defensive side of the ball Harman and Blakely will both man the safety spots in the Cashion secondary. Ryan Harrel (Sr.) will also start in the secondary for the Wildcats this year and give Cashion a threeyear starter at cornerback. Matt Farrow (Jr.) is a player that Cashion will lean on heavily at linebacker after he recorded 71 tackles in his sophomore season. Overall look for the Wildcats to be an aggressive unit this year that doesn’t rely as heavily on their base defense since they will be replacing their entire defensive line from last season. “Our goals are really what they are every season. We want to win our district and then just take things one game at a time when we get to the playoffs,” Cashion head coach Lynn Shackelford said. OKEENE WHIPPETS

COACH: BRUCE MADDEN ENROLLMENT: 78 LAST 5 YEARS: 2010 - 10-2 2011 - 6-5 2012 - 6-5 2013 - 10-2 2014 - 6-5 OFFENSE Okeene is getting a new head football coach as Jeff Wardlaw resigns after 24 years at the helm of the Whippets. Bruce Madden will take over for Wardlaw in 2015. Madden comes from Northwest Classen in Oklahoma City. Madden will have his work cut out for him. The Whippets made it to the Class A playoffs in 2014, only to be eliminated in the first round. With seven starters returning on offense, coach Madden has a solid nucleus of players to work with. Beau Jinkens (6-1, 175, Sr.), who might switch schools, returns after taking over at quarterback last season. If he stays, he will be Okeene’s best player. Cade Mitch (5-9, 150, Sr.) will start at running back. Drew Nault (5-9, 180, Jr.) will split time with Mitch in the backfield. Tyler Demoss (5-10, 230, So.) will anchor the offensive line.

DEFENSE The defense returns six starters, all of whom start on offense as well. Jinkens plays free safety, and is the anchor of the secondary. Mitch lines up at strong safety, and is a nice compliment to Jinkens. Jayce Osmus (6-2, 185, Sr.) is a lock down corner who can blanket any receiver. Nault spearheads a young group of linebackers. 44

COACH: BRANDON BLIZZARD ENROLLMENT: 153 LAST 5 YEARS: 2010 - 9-2 2011 - 4-6 2012 - 6-5 2013 - 5-6 2014 - 1-8

OFFENSE Operating out of multiple formations this year the Eagles will look to establish the run first according to head coach Brandon Blizzard. Offensive lineman Chase Lorenz (6-1, 205, Sr.) will be the cutting edge of that rushing attack as the team’s anchor in the trenches. Quarterback Jack Lafferty (5-8, 175, Jr.) and running back MJ Whiteagle (6-0, 215, Sr.) will work behind the Watonga line as key playmakers in the Eagles’ offense. On the outside look for receivers Kyler Mathis (6-2, 180, Jr.) and Nate Coffey (6-4, 170, Jr.) to be Lafferty’s top targets in the passing game. DEFENSE With six returning starters on defense, Blizzard expects his 4-3 scheme to be an aggressive unit that will play sound and fast. On the defensive line look for Tucker Drever (5-11, 220, Sr.) to

give the Eagles a good presence on the edge manning a defensive end position. Julio Reza (5-10, 215, Sr.) will also be a big key up front as a versatile athlete that can play multiple spots on the line. Jacob Smith (5-10, 230, So.) will be counted on to make plays in the heart of the Watonga defense this year as the Eagle’s starting middle linebacker. Meanwhile Kaleb Mcspritt (6-0, 150, Jr.) will be the go-to-guy in the secondary; starting at safety. $

2011 - 5-5 2012 - 4-6 2013 - 3-7 2014 - 2-8

OFFENSE Changes are the news of the day for the Canton Tigers. Head coach David Smith lost several key players to graduation. Finding replacements could be a challenge this season, but it’s something coach Smith believes the team can handle. “Due to losing our starting quarterback for the last three years and all of our top receivers, we will be looking to run the ball. Just trying to find something that works for our players. We will rely on a lot of young players,” said coach Smith. Chase Hysell (Sr.) could be the starting quarterback for opening day, but has the athleticism to play running back if needed. Eric Ricther (Sr.) is another versatile player with multiple positions in his future. Look for Ricther to play running back and tight end.

DEFENSE The defense may be a little small and undersized, but the attitude and desire is there. “It’s gut check time for Canton football. We are going to have to rely on a lot of young inexperienced players that have to step up and contribute immediately. The mindset of our whole football program needs to toughen up,” said Smith. Hysell will start at corner, while Ricther moves to linebacker. Glenn Walker (So.) is one of those younger players coach Smith needs to step up and contribute from linebacker. The D-line will feature Ryan Hoskins (Sr.) and Tony Campos (So.). Look for the defense to base from a 3-1 using four defensive backs to stop the pass. GEARY BISON COACH: STEVEN WILSON ENROLLMENT: 107 LAST 5 YEARS: 2010 - 5-5 2011 - 2-8 2012 - 1-9 2013 - 2-8 2014 - 6-5

OFFENSE The 2014 season ended in the first round of the Class B playoffs for the Geary Bison. They lost 58-0 to eventual state runner-up Laverne. Seven starters return to lead the offense in 2015. Key skill players highlight the group of returnees, led by running back Ross Shawnee (5-9, 175, Jr.). Shawnee ran for 900 yards and finished with 400 receiving yards last season. Quarterback Haden Glasgow (5-9, 170, Jr.) returns after rushing for 700 yards and throwing for 946 yards last season. Glasgow has a strong combination of speed and arm strength. Pete Evans (58, 155, Sr.) finished with 450 allpurpose yards last year, and will be expected to up that number this season. Justice Yates (5-10,

HENNESSEY EAGLES

180, Sr.) and Sterling Smith (6-3, 300, Sr.) will anchor the trenches.

DEFENSE Six starters return on defense, and this group is expected to play with intensity. Kendell Johnson (5-10, 160, So.) is stepping in at cornerback, and the coaching staff is expecting a lot from him. Dallas Williams (6-0, 275, Jr.) is a specialist when it comes to stopping the run. Williams finished with 76 tackles last season. Jacob Base (6-0, 160, Jr.) will contain the outside run from his defensive end position. Andrew Peck (5-7, 150, Jr.) joins Johnson in the secondary. Dion Brown (5-8, 220, Jr.) will rotate in on the defensive line.

OFFENSE Head coach Rick Luetjen and the Hennessey Eagles are coming off a 12-win season that ended after a semifinal loss to eventual champion Davis. That loss has left the returning players hungry for another shot at the gold ball. In typical Hennessey fashion, the offense will look to establish the run and control the clock. VYPE Top 100 selectee Tabor Johns (6-0, 210, Sr.) will carry the load in the running game; something Johns is more than happy to do for the Eagles. “We are always a run first offense and will continue that trend. Plus we have a very talented running back returning for his third year at the position. We will also be breaking in a new quarterback this year, so we will be looking to take some pressure off of him early,” said coach Luetjen. Depth on the offensive line could be a concern, but two players returning up front will help ease some of that worry. Jake Schovanec (6-2, 225, Sr.) and Brooks Leu (6-0, 220, Jr.) return at guard and center respectively. The pair should become the best friends of quarterback Ashton Rapp (6-1, 190, Jr.) who starts for his first full varsity season at quarterback. Dayton Wymore (5-10, 180, Jr.) adds a spark on offense from his H-back position.

DEFENSE Graduation did hit the defense pretty hard, but coach Luetjen is confident the returning players can step up and retain that aggressive style the Hennessey is notorious for having. Johns will start at linebacker, while Schovanec gets the nod at defensive end. Nose guard Mason Weber (5-10, 215, Sr.) will command attention in the middle of the defensive line, while Luis Castanon (6-1, 230, Sr.) will provide a push from his tackle position. Esteban Saenz (5-10, 200, Sr.) has quickness and accelerates to the football. Saenz and Johns at linebacker are a formidable force. Saenz will also handle the kicking duties. “It’s that time of year to see who is ready to step up and be the next guy for us. Overall this will be our biggest loss to graduation since I’ve been here and especially when you consider contributing seniors. We have several players back with experience from this past year, however many are going to have to be ready to step up and be starters this year. It will definitely take a great effort between the players and the coaching staff to continue our success,” said Luetjen.

OFFENSE The Eagles began to fly again last season, finishing with a record of 8-4 after making it to the Class C quarterfinals. With seven returning offensive starters expect the Eagles to possibly go even deeper in the playoffs this season. Leading the DCLA offense this year will be quarterback Harrison Muegge (5-11, 170, Sr.) who threw for 1,389 yards and 24 touchdowns last season and also ran for 1,372 yards and 24 touchdowns. Other key players in the DCLA offense this year will be receiver Britton Stacy (6-1, 160, Sr.), Dylan Teft (5-10, 160, Jr.) and Barry Bachman (5-9, 155, Sr.). Stacy caught 31 passes last year for 517 yards and 14 touchdowns whle Teft and Bachman combined for 21 catches and four receiving touchdowns. On the offensive line center Cody

Williams (6-0, 230, Sr.) is a great blocker and consistent snapper according to Engle.

DEFENSE On defense Muegge and Stacy will both be players to watch in the Eagles’ 3-2 scheme. Starting at linebacker Muegee made 118 tackles last season and recorded 11 tackles for loss. Stacy meanwhile starts at safety and recorded 71 tackles and also picked off three passes a year ago. On the defensive line Andrew McKee (5-10, 185, Sr.) and John Irvin (5-10, 220, Sr.) will be two players that will terrorize opposing quarterbacks. In 2014 McKee racked up 88 tackles, 6.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss. Irvin meanwhile contributed 25 tackles and four tackles for loss. CRESCENT TIGERS

COACH: J.L. FISHER ENROLLMENT: 168 LAST 5 YEARS:

OFFENSE Last season the Tigers suffered through a good amount of growing pains as they started multiple underclassmen and finished the year with an 0-10 record. This season the Tigers are looking to once again be a playoff contender as many of those underclassmen return this year. At quarterback the Tigers will feature either Nash Walker (5-8, 160, Jr.) or Logan LaRue (6-0, 170, Sr.). Walker is an athletic and speedy player that is more likely to tuck the ball and run it while LaRue is more of a traditional pocket-style passer. Whichever player wins the quarterback battle will most likely turn to wide receiver Danny Portwood (5-11, 160, Jr.) as their top target. Fullback Dylan Emery (5-10, 190, So.) and offensive lineman Dakota Haven (5-9, 220, Sr.) will also be crucial players in the Crescent offense this year. DEFENSE Defensively the Tigers bring back nine starters from a year ago and will be extremely strong in the secondary. Josiah Lovett (5-10, 150, So.), a player with good size and ball skills, will be the leader of that unit. Portwood and Walker will also start at defensive back this year giving Crescent three players with big play ability on the back end. Emery meanwhile will start for the Tigers at linebacker while Matt Portwood (5-10, 185, So.) starts at defensive end.
