Football 2014 Thomas: The Terriers are one of the most successful programs in the state, but despite an amazing number of wins, Thomas hadn’t claimed a gold ball since 2002 when they won the Class A title with a 21-0 win over Ringling. Earlier this month the Terriers got back to the promised land when they capped off a perfect 15-0 season with a 28-0 win over Cashion. Overall this season the Terriers high-octane offense averaged 41.7 points per game and failed to score under 30 points just twice. While the Thomas offense stole their share of headlines, the Terriers’ defense was a unit that dominated opponents all year long. Only two opponents, Texhoma and Wynnewood, scored more than 14
Chezden Nease
points against the Terriers; with Thomas allowing an average of just 10 points per game. Ironically the only shutout the Terriers posted came on the biggest stage with the gold ball hanging in the balance.
Kingfisher: The Yellowjackets came into this season with high hopes of repeating as Class 3A champions. Unfortunately for fans of the Blue and Gold those hopes were dashed when they ran into a buzz saw in the form of the Cushing Tigers losing in the state semifinals. The loss to Cushing may have left a bitter taste in the mouths of the Kingfisher faithful but nonetheless the Yellowjackets had a very successful season finishing 11-3. Offensively the Yellowjackets relied on a dominant ground game led by junior running back Nick Smith who carried the ball 191 times for 1,424 yards and 21 touchdowns. Fellow running back Reid Trout also had a big season with 652 yards and seven touchdowns on 104 carries. Defensively, linebackers Jace Sternberger and Trey Yoeman were the team’s leaders. Yoeman led the team in tackles with 117 stops. Meanwhile
Thomas Class A Champions
Tabor Johns Sternberger, who is committed to play at Kansas next year, racked up 80 total tackles and made 20 sacks.
Hennessey: The Eagles advanced all the way to the Class 2A semifinals this year before falling to eventual state champion Davis by a score of 48-31. Overall Hennessey finished with a record of 12-2 as they showcased a balanced offense and an attacking defense. Offensively quarterback Tony Mendoza completed 130-of-222 passes for 2,095 yards and 23 touchdowns. On the ground Hennessey was led by running back Tabor Johns who rushed for 1,823 yards and 29 touchdowns on 277 carries. Jose Sanchez was the Eagles’ top receiver with 63 catches for 1,128 yards and 10 touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball Javy Renteria and Abe Ortega both made an abundance of big plays. A versatile athlete Renteria tallied 151 total tackles and five sacks as he spent time at both linebacker and defensive end. Ortega meanwhile was the Eagles’ middle linebacker and racked up 116 tackles and picked off five passes.

Enid Plainsmen Website: www. enidpublicschools.org GIRLS Jennifer Burch 13-14 Record: 18-6
Outlook: Jennifer Burch comes to Enid to take over as head coach of the Pacers this year after spending over 11 years at Bishop McGuinness including a 2011 season in which she guided the Irish to a state title. “This is my first year at Enid so I am excited with the youngsters in the program. We only return two players who saw varsity playing time so developing the underclassmen will be key,” Burch said. Returning this year are guards Haven Bay (Sr.) and Kylee Vestal (Jr.). Last season Bay averaged 11.2 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Meanwhile Vestal chipped in three points per game. Another critical part of the Enid lineup this year will be guard Faith Mirelez (5-7, Sr.). Inside the paint Mariah Blythe (5-10, So.) has the ability to challenge any post
but can also step outside and knock down open jumpers. Emily Ingleton (5-9, So.), Sarah Johnson (5-10, So.) and Amanda Winkeljohn (5-10, So.) all will see bi minutes this year and give the Enid roster some scary length. Enid Plainsmen Rogers (6-2, Sr.) and small forward Devon Edwards (6-6, Sr.). Last season Rogers averaged 10.2 points per game and this season has stepped up his vocal leadership in the locker room. Meanwhile Wilkinson says Edwards has the physical tools to be a top player in their conference and that the Plainsmen will go as far as the powerful small forward’s offense can take them. Corey Ganz (6-7, Sr.) will start at power forward for the Plainsmen after averaging 3.0 points per game last year. Shooting guard Devin Pratt (5-10, Jr.) and point guard Deion Smith (5-1, Jr.) round out the projected Enid starting five and will be counted on to distribute the ball to Enid’s playmakers.

We made it to the semifinals of area last year and have all five starters returning. We have good size and speed. We have been working hard day in and day out to be a top team.” Megan Galusha (14ppg, 3spg) will start at point guard with Kammi Gruber (7ppg). Trevor Galusha - Chisholm High School Chisholm High School basketball player Trevor Galusha is a triple threat when it comes to sports and academics. This is why he was chosen as this month’s Character Counts Athlete of the Month. An all-conference basketball player, an allconference baseball player and an active Student Council and FCA participant, Galusha has a good head on his shoulders. Through Student Council, he takes part in volunteering for food drives and numerous school and citywide events that helps the community. Galusha plans to go to NOC Enid after graduation and then onto OSU to pursue civil engineering. But, Galusha’s ambitions go beyond the classroom; in fact, his “dream career would be to play in the NBA or MLB,” Galusha said. When he isn’t volunteering or playing sports, Galusha enjoys fishing, hanging with family, lifting and practicing the sports he competes in.

Oklahoma Bible Academy Trojans
Hope Shriever 5-1 G Jr. Savanna Price 5-6 G Jr.
Website: www. oklahomabible.com
Outlook: A very experienced squad returns for the Trojans this year as they attempt to improve upon last year’s 19-7 record that earned them a spot in the area tournament. “Every player in our top eight is a junior or senior. Most of our players all have two or three years of varsity experience,” head coach Alan Ford said. Leading the experienced group is the tandem of forward Dylan White (6-5, Sr.) and guard Preston Atwood (6-2, Sr.). Last season White averaged lasgow 11 points and nine rebounds per game while Atwood contributed an average of nine points and five assists per game. Forward Jonny Volpe (6-2, Sr.) and guards Camden Raggon (6-0, Jr.) and Landry Castillo (6-0, Sr.) will round out the starting five for OBA and be expected to play much bigger roles than they did last year. Off the bench Josh Barnthouse, Jon Messenger and Baylor Boyd will all be major contributors according to coach Ford.
GIRLS Kelli Jennings 13-14 Record: 7-18
Outlook: Kelli Jennings takes over on the sidelines this year for the Lady Trojans and looks to help OBA improve upon last year’s 7-18 overall record with the help of three returning starters. Jennings expects that faction of returning players and some very talented young players to make those goals a reality. “With some new faces on our squad, and a strong core group returning, we hope to make a strong run in the playoffs after a regular season that will test us,” Jennings said. Those tests during the year will come as a result of the Trojans joining the Three Rivers Conference which also includes Okarche, Cashion and Thomas among several other strong teams. To help overcome those challenges the Lady Trojans will count heavily on the play of guard Erin Coffin (5-7, Sr.) who averaged 10 points, two steals, two assists and two rebounds per game last year. Also working their way into the Lady Trojans’ guard-heavy offense will be Tara Kelley (5-9, Jr.), Ashley Atwood (5-6, Jr.) Hope Shriever (5-1, Jr.) and Savanna Price (5-6, Jr.). Teacher of the Month Ryan Caimano – OK Bible Academy Second year math teacher Ryan Caimano has been nothing short of a blessing to the students, faculty and families at Oklahoma Bible Academy. As a University of Oklahoma alum and a bachelor’s degree in psychology, Caimano knows how to both relate and teach on his students’ level. As the Junior Academic Team advisor and a passion for teaching, Caimano has thrived at OBA, and his personality has inspired those around him. “OBA is the one place I can be me. The most rewarding thing about teaching is the teamwork. The synergy in the classroom ignites a spirit and a unity between individuals. There is no greater reward than this.”
OBA faculty and students are a family, united by a bond of love for their school and for God, and Caimano’s background fits perfectly. Coming from a family of six, he has witnessed a lot of growth and love that has led him to pursue each student intentionally and love them well. “I am grateful for OBA and our family here. We are all on the same team and realizing this amazes me each day,” Caimano said. Because of his enthusiasm for his school, passion for his students and profession and love for those around him, Caimano is well deserving of this honor of Teacher of the Month.

Hanah Troxel Enid High School
Hanah Troxel is a senior at Enid High and takes part in both high school cheer and a competitive squad. As a cheerleader for 6 years, Hanah has had as much experience as she has had influence on both squads. “As a senior, I try to be a great role model for my teammates,” Troxel said. For both Enid High and Spirit Express, Troxel is a flyer. After graduation, Troxel plans to attend Oklahoma State University to pursue animal science, and hopefully become a vet. Her favorite part of cheering for her school is being on the football field
because her younger brother plays on the team. “He is one of my best friends and being able to cheer him on every Friday night made this the best season yet,” Troxel said.
When asked what the most rewarding aspect of cheerleading is, Troxel replied “when our team spends every day putting in sweat and tears and we give it our all. It is a feeling I cannot begin to explain.” Because of Troxel’s dedication, love and enthusiasm she has for cheer
and her teammates, she is the Spirit Express Cheerleader of the Month. “I love cheerleading because it isn’t something everyone can do; a certain mentality, seeking the same goal and being a family is key. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without my team and coaches,” Troxel said.

Mom of the
Month Tambi Brown - Chisholm Mom Everyone knows moms are the real superheroes behind athletes. Encouragers, cheerleaders, motivators, cooks, supporters and the list goes on. For this Chisholm mom, having three kids in the school system has kept her running from one sport to another, events in between and balancing many other obligations. Tambi Brown is this month’s MOM MVP from Chisholm. Brown’s oldest, Taggart, is the senior quarterback for the football team and also plays baseball and runs track. Her daughter, Brenli, is a junior and takes part in school and competitive cheer, along with running and pole vaulting in the spring/ Her youngest, Taely, is in seventh grade and is active in volleyball, basketball and track. Tambi has learned a thing or two about being a consistent, loyal fan for her kids and supporting them in all their endeavors and we know they are thankful for her support! “I take pride in knowing my kids are getting the best education, and I try to make all the little extras about school even more special by helping with the Chisholm Booster club, after-prom, football and cheer. Those extras make the most memories for my kids!” Brown said. After graduation from NWOSU in 1997 with a bachelor’s of science, Brown worked hard until 2008, when tragedy struck home. Her mother passed away and since then, she has made even extra, further efforts to be there for her kids. “That was really life-changing for me. It changed my perspective on life and how important making memories with your kids can be,” Brown said. Already being an involved in her kids lives, she felt her need to be a mom was intensified and began to take further steps to be involved in both academics and athletics for her three kids. She loves every detail of being a mom and enjoys the blessing of having a tight knit family. “I am without a doubt their biggest fan in the stands and at home. I can’t help but smile when I think of how truly blessed I am to have three amazing kids who fill my heart,” Brown said. For all you do Tambi, you are absolutely the Mom of the Month for VYPE!

Outlook: The Lady Panthers have been one of the top programs in the state for a long time but just last year claimed their first state title in school history with a two-point win over Seiling. This year the Lady Panthers bring back three starters off the state championship team but will be looking to replace two star players in Guard Jade Jones and Rylie Halcomb both of whom were all-state selections. “We will look to regroup after losing two all-state seniors from last year’s state championship team. We have a good core group of talented young girls who have gained valuable experience,” head coach Tasha Diesselhorst said. Leading the team this year will be guard Tiarra Davis (5-6, Jr.) who averaged 14 points, four steals and four rebounds a game last year. Outlook: “We are very excited about this year. It’s a very loaded field in Class A this year. Our schedule is brutal but the regular season is just preparation for
the playoffs. We have a large group of freshmen and sophomores who will have to step up,” Pond Creek head coach Darin Jones said. The big name among those young players is point guard Cole Jones (5-11, Fr.) who is described by his coach as a player who can both score and create shots for his teammates. Kade Tracy (6-2, So.) averaged 10.6 points per game last year and is another young player on the perimeter. Rounding out the backcourt will be Devan McKee (6-0, Jr.) who averaged 2.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game last year. Underneath the rim Pond Creek will also have a good amount of size in forwards T.J. Krittenbrink (6-4, Sr.) and Jevan Overton (6-4, So.). With a new system and new players, look for Medford to make some noise throughout this basketball season,” coach Jones said. Robby Webb (5-7, Sr.) and Clay Dell (5-7 Fr.) get the start at guard. Webb is one of two returning starters, while Dell is only a freshman, but has high expectations placed on him this season. Forward Alex Koehn (6-1, Jr.) is joined by Kade Neumann (6-2, Jr.) in the low post. Both players bring toughness to the position. Joe Jantzen (6-4, So.) is the big man in the paint, but his athleticism creates a match up problem for many of their opponents. Look for the Cardinals to take big steps towards a winning season. Much is to be expected of this team as they return four starters on the heels of a 21 win campaign, with a 2nd place finish in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season. The Jets finished the season in the top 20 nationally in assists per game (17th). The Jets also finished top 10 in field goal percentage (10th), and three pointers made per game (9th). NOC Enid returns 54 points per game (63 percent of scoring), 19 rebounds per game (55 percent of rebounds) and 15.6 assists per game (85 percent of assists) from last season. This veteran group is paced by conference assist leader Cornell Neal (6.5 APG, 9.6 PPG) who looks to continue in his role as floor general. The back court returns the top four returning leading scorers Ja’Wan Smith (12.2 PPG), Daryck Jones (11.8 PPG) and Jovan Crnic (9.2 PPG). Terrell Savala will bring veteran presence to the team in his sophomore campaign. Backcourt freshmen Julian Green, Isaiah Cole, Abel Rodriguez, Christian Robertson and Zach Rayner will be relied upon in their various roles throughout the season.
Sophomores Corey Ratcliffe-Alpough (5.8 PPG, 4.9 REB) and Josh Palmer (5.3 PPG, 3.2 REB) will be expected to carry a bigger load in the front court this season. The two combined for 31 starts last season, and that in-game experience will be crucial through the rigors of OCAC play. Freshmen Chris Jefferson, Casey Cole, and Sean Robison have come in and shown a lot of promise offensively as well as on the defensive end. Their versatility to protect the paint as well as guard on the perimeter creates a plethora of defensive lineup possibilities.

The Northern Oklahoma College Enid Women’s basketball team has established a high level of expectation in their tradition rich program. The first 13 seasons have produced nine NJCAA AllAmericans, 40 Academic All-Americans, three National Academic Team of the Year awards and a conference best average of 24.1 victories a year over that span. The Lady Jets have won eight conference titles, three Region 2 championships, have been nationally ranked in eight consecutive seasons and finished 4th in the NJCAA National Tournament in 2011.
With a strong finish a year ago, claiming their third Region 2 championship in five years, the Lady Jets are very optimistic about the upcoming season! They return the bulk of their lineup including last year’s Region 2 Tournament MVP Breck Clark who averaged 18.8 points per game. Lexington’s Hannah Holasek, Little Rock natives Kiara Moore and Tierra Coffey, along with the readdition of injured red-shirts Paige Eaton and Kati Sullivan, should provide outstanding leadership and experience. The roster also includes the local talents of Hailey Parker (Timberlake), Shawnta Johnson (Hennessey), Sadie Perry (Waukomis) and Shalyn Layn (Kingfisher).
NOC TONKAWA Men Coach: Donnie Jackson
Assistant Coaches: Jason Hinson
The Mavericks finished the 2013-2014 season 19-14 overall and advanced to the Region II semifinals. The NOC Mavericks look to build on last season’s late success that saw them win 8 out their final 10 games and advance to the Region II semifinals. Versatility could be the key to success for the Mavericks. With a good mix of size, strength, speed and length, the team should be able to play several different styles. Sophomores Jordan Phelps and 6’9 Jaquan Smith are the only 2 returners but the team has added 4 transfers to the team. Central Arkansas transfer DuShaun Rice and
Barton County transfer Kevin Kuteyi look to lead the backcourt. 6’10 freshman Valentine Sangoyomi should provide the team with another inside presence.
NOC TONKAWA Women Coach: Greg Krause
Assistant Coaches: Nate Macy
Coach Greg Krause, going into his 32nd year of coaching this season, and second year assistant coach Nate Macy, led the Lady Mavericks to a third place finish last year in the Region 2 Conference with an 11-7 conference record. In the 31 games last season, The Lady Mavericks averaged 70.5 points per game last season, as well as a 38.6 field goal percentage, 26.6 percent behind the three point line, 70.6 percent from the free throw line, 35.2 rebounds per game and 14.1 assists per game. They also averaged 19.4 turnovers per game, which was almost three turnovers more
than their opponents averaged, and 20.8 personal fouls per game last season. With 5 returning players and a strong freshman class, the Lady Mavericks are looking to make an impact this year in the conference. Sophomore guard, Jamee Moore, leads the returning players with an average of 11.8 points and 24.5 minutes per game last year. She also shot 39.1 percent from the field and played in all 31 games played. Look for a strong performance this year from sophomore Raetchel Gray, who averaged 10.8 points per game and shot 36.7 percent from the field. She played an average of 21.8 minutes per game and also played in all 31 games last season.
Look for a breakout performance from freshman guard Alicia Sandin from Blanchard, Okla. The 5’10” guard, who played for Bridge Creek High School, averaged 16.1 points per game her senior year and was also a starting guard for the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State girls basketball game over the summer where she scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds. The 5’7” freshman Darian Hill, from Newalla, Okla,, is another one of Coach Krause’s impact freshman for the ’14-’15 season. Averaging 15.0 points per game her senior year, where she helped lead her team, Harrah High School, to the State Tournament. She was also selected to The Oklahoman All-City second team roster. The Lady Mavericks have a young team, just five returning sophomores and nine freshman, but an extremely talented team. Watch out for the Lady Mavericks this year, they’re looking to control the Region 2 Conference with their speed and explosive offense.

“I’ve been on the principal’s honor roll since I started high school and received star green hand and star discovery degree from my FFA Chapter. This past year, I won reserve division in the doe show at OYE and won intermediate showmanship at the 2013 State Fair and also at OYE,” Salisbury stated. Gaining people skills, friends and
memories for a lifetime, FFA has been a huge part of Salisbury’s high school career. Her experience with FFA has been great for all these reasons, yet Salisbury says the “glue” that holds it all together is their advisor, Thomas Goyen. “Our advisor is always pushing me to do my best and reminding me to smile and have fun, instead of getting caught up in winning all the time,” Salisbury said.
Salisbury plans to attend Oklahoma State University to major in environmental science. She plans to find a healthy balance of faith, family, academics, passions and social life while in college, and will surely be successful from her experience with balancing such involvement in high school.
“It’s very important to be a well-rounded person. The more things you do, the more you will learn and the more you can apply to life,” Salisbury said. Well said, Carlee. We wish you the best of luck in the future and know you will be successful at whatever you do!

We made big improvements in the summer and depth will be a big strength for us,” Hussey said. Another big strength for the Eagles will be their collective wingspan. With a chance to possibly put three players that are at least 6-5 on the floor at the same time the Eagles will definitely be a tough team to score on and will look insideout on offense. Leading that charge will be forward Austun Gorman (6-5, Sr.) who averaged 12 points, nine rebounds and two blocks per game a year ago. Center Tim O’Dell (6-6, Sr.) is another major presence inside and is coming off a junior season
in which he averaged eight points, eight rebounds and three blocks per game. On the outside Nate Coffey (6-0, So.) will run the show at the point guard spot while Darren Williams (5-9, Sr.) and Mario Reyes (Sr.) flank him at the guard spots. Outlook: The Hennessy Eagles make the move to Class 3A this season, but veteran coach Marty McBride does not expect any drop off for his team. He fully expects his roster of returning starters to be ready for the challenge. Four starters make the return to McBride’s lineup. Senior forward Kylee Blehm (6-0) and her ferocious defense return. Blehm averaged a monster 5 steals per game last season, along with 13 points and 9 rebounds per game. Skylar Holder (5-6) will return to her spot at point guard for her senior season. A pair of sophomores will return to build off their experiences as freshman. Kinsey Neiderer (5-10) will play forward, and Addie Meeker (5-8) will join Holder in the backcourt as the shooting guard. Lone junior Annie Duell (5-9) will hold down the middle. “We have four starters back from a 2A state tournament appearance,” McBride said. “We moved to 3A, but I believe we can be in the mix. Freshman point guard Carlos Rojo (5-7) is expected to come in and contribute immediately for the Eagles. Senior Javy Renteria (6-1) returns to the center position after sitting out his junior season to focus on football. As a sophomore, Renteria averaged 5.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Duffy is joined by Beca Drake (4.8ppg, 5.6rpg) another solid player down low. Guard Maci Mendell (13ppg, 2.3rpg, 4.2apg) plays hard on both ends of the court. They are young, but what they lack in experience they make up with athleticism and effort. Daniel DeLeon (8ppg, 5apg) and Kaleb Turner (9ppg, 3apg) are two quick guards that can scores from the perimeter or driving through the lane. Joey Schlegel (14ppg, 4rpg) and Austin Snowden (8ppg, 6rpg) will spend most of their time in the paint, but both players are capable of forcing teams to adjust their defense and switch into a bad mismatch. Anthony McAlexander (6ppg, 6rpg) may have the most experience of all returners. The junior forward will give coach Edsall another option on the offensive end. Outlook: Last year the Lady Tigers won just two games in head coach Karl Butt’s first season leading the program. This year Butt feels much better about where his team is at although he cautioned that may not mean more wins. “We have definitely grown from last year. We are a lot more experienced and a lot smarter with the ball. The wins may not be there but we will be much more competitive,” Butt said. The Lady Tigers will be a guardoriented team with Braiden Reno (Sr.), Haylee Sanderson (Jr.) and Denise Chronister (Jr.) all in the main rotation on the perimeter. In the frontcourt Gabby Musil (Sr.) will be the Lady Tigers biggest weapon. The leaders of the Tigers offense this year will be guards Trace Bennett (6-1, Sr.) and Damion Bledsoe (6-0, Sr.). Last season Bennett averaged 15 points per game with Bledsoe chipping in an average of 10 points per game. Also on the perimeter fans will find point guard Dillon Johnson (5-9, Sr.) who is a jackof-all-trades type of player who averaged seven points, four rebounds and four assists per game last year. Outlook: First year head coach Jordan Mills inherits a talented squad that returns four starters from last year’s team. The Lady Whippets have five seniors back this year and coach Mills has seen what their leadership can provide this team in her first year. “We need to click as a team and the seniors will play a major role in that process. It’s hard for seniors to learn a new system from new coaches, but our seniors have done a great job. The girls work well together on the court and have shown they can handle the pressure,” said Mills. Senior Claire Haffner (5-10) is a strong rebounder and post player. Haffner will start at forward with junior Amie Sublett (5-10) who runs the floor well and plays solid defense. Guard Olivia Westfahl (5-10) is a good three-point shooter and can play the point. But starting at point guard is Ashlyn Long. Long (5-4) is another shooter with excellent range, quick on her feet and a player that takes pride in her defense. Kallee Dunn (5-6) is only a sophomore, but could find her way into playing quality minutes all season. Her pressure, quickness and ability to create turnovers make her a valuable asset on the court. Also look for Vashty DeLeon, Brittany Lorenz and Morgan Westfahl for contributions this year. “I really have 7 girls that could start. When someone comes off the bench, we don’t miss a beat. Outlook: The Whippets advanced all the way to the Class B semifinals last season before being ousted by eventual state runner-up Lookeba-Sickles. The Whippets lost a good chunk of production due to graduation however and return just two starters. “We have a young, athletic group
this year with a lot of holes to fill from last year but we have already got some kids stepping up to fill those roles. We will be a good team with a very tough conference schedule. Every night will be a battle for us, but we have the pieces and potential to beat anyone,” head coach Patrick Penner said. Forward Mitchell Howe (6-1, Sr.) is one such player that will be moving into an expanded role this season. Howe saw significant minutes last year as a role player and averaged 1.5 points and 1.6 rebounds per game but has the ability to take over games according to Penner. Brexton Smith (6-3, Sr.) will also
start in the frontcourt this year for Okeene after averaging 1.5 points per game a year ago. At guard, Chance Bedwell (6-0, Sr.) may be the best kept secret in Class B. Bedwell didn’t play a single game last year due to a torn ACL but would’ve seen big minutes if he had. Guards Beau Jinkens (6-0, Jr.) and Jayce Osmus (6-1, Jr.) will round out the Okeene starting lineup. Last season Jinkens averaged 3.4 points per game while Osmus averaged 2.7 points per contest. Brandon Green (12.9ppg, 9.7rpg) is a big-time rebounder with a ton of experience in the paint. Logan Meriwether (13.5ppg, 6.7rpg) is a lanky guard who is developing a nice three-point shot. Curan Olson (5.5ppg, 2.5rpg) is a young, quick guard that causes problems for opponents on both ends of the floor. CJ Castillo (3.8ppg, 1.9rpg) and Colton Budy (4.8ppg, 2.6rpg) are two more options in the offensive attack for coach Green. Several other players are looking to get playing time this year. Outlook: Last season in head coach Jared Reese’s first season as head coach the Yellowjackets finished with a 21-4 overall record and came up just shy of the Class 4A state tournament after losing to Anadarko in the area tournament. This season Kingfisher brings back three starters and is once again eyeing a great season and a deep run in the playoffs according to Reese. “We should have another strong season with a great group of senior players returning. Offensively we should be strong on the inside and we will look to improve our outside shooting as the season progresses. Defensively we hope to dominate the rebounding statistics and make it difficult to get easy shots,” Reese said. Outlook: Defending state champs. Five starters returning. Arguably the best player in the state. All of these things are things Alva has going in their favor this year. Now factor in the fact that the Ladybugs drop down a class to Class 2A this year and the upcoming season seems very promising for head coach Eric Smith and company. No matter if it’s on offense or defense everything revolves around point guard and VYPE Top 100 selection Jaden Hobbs (5-6, Jr.). Last year Hobbs averaged 21.7 points, 5.9 assists, 2.5 steals and 3.9 rebounds per game. What made Hobbs’ season so much more impressive was the fact that she set a state record scoring 107 total points in three state tournament games to lead the Ladybugs to the gold ball. Guard Bailey Forell (5-6, Sr.) provides a nice compliment to Hobbs on the perimeter and averaged 5.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game last year. Lora Riley (5-9, Sr.) and Morgan Shiever (5-9, Sr.) both give the Ladybugs a good deal of versatility as forwards capable of scoring inside or out while Nicole Ritter (6-2, Sr.) anchors things inside from her position at center. Outlook: Lady Bears are definitely one of the state title favorites with a sensational returning nucleus from last year’s 26-win state semifinal squad. Kate Sander (12.0 ppg, 7.9 reb, 4.5 blks) is the top inside presence in the class and a force on both ends of the court that should average a double-double. Taylor Swisher (10.3 ppg) and Morgan Latta (7.5 ppg, 2.7 asst) are threats on the perimeter and will have outstanding support from the ever-improving Summer Pennington (6.6 ppg) and Monti Sappenfield (6.3 ppg). Coach Brad Thrash will have considerable depth, which will make for a solid nine-player rotation. Amanda Bogle, Kenzie Torrance, Lynanne Hendrickson and Kaylie Springer should all see regular action as the season progresses. Outlook: The Vici girls return a ton of experience with all five starters back for another season under head coach Chad Pugh. Four seniors and a sophomore look to win their way into the state tournament. Baily McCormick (5-5, So.) averaged 13.3 points and 4.3 rebounds as a freshman. The left-handed guard is dynamic with the ball and could develop into one of the top players in the area. Micah Gregory (5-8, Sr.) will start at forward where she averaged 7.3 points and 5.9 rebounds last year. Josie Boatman (5-5, Sr.) and Holley Taylor (5-7, Sr.) combine can score 14 points and snag 4-5 steals a game. Aspen Cook (5-11, Sr.) may be the sleeper on the team. Cook will play hard all game and finish with 8.0 points and 6.0 rebounds. Solid production. “We have a talented group of players with a ton of experience. We hope to be in the mix at the end,” said coach Pugh. Look for Misti Boatman, Taylor Munsell and Ashlyn Watkins to have an impact coming off the bench. Baily McCormick 5-5 G So. Outlook: A fast and athletic group is what head coach Billy Haley has this season. Led by Jaime Altamirano (5-11, Sr.) at guard, the Indians will use their athleticism to push the pace. Altamirano is an excellent shooter that never stops working on both ends of the floor. Tristan Devon (6-4, Sr.) will patrol the post using his size and ability to alter shots in the paint. Austin Albumohammed (5-6, Jr.) and Joey Borden (5-10, Jr.) give the Indians more options in the transition game. “We have a fast, athletic group and we should be good defensively and in transition. Need to develop some shooting, but if the younger guys come around quick we could have a pretty good season,” said coach Haley.

Outlook: “Have fun, play hard, win.” That is the Lady Trojans motto this season as they look to improve on last year’s 17-8 overall record. In order to do that the Lady Trojans will count on a very experienced lineup. On the inside, forward Kalie Long (Sr.) will team with Jerika Halley (Jr.) to give the Lady Trojans a frontcourt full of upperclassmen. On the perimeter Morgan Phillips (Sr.) and Taylor Harris (Jr.) both have big game experience and will both play major roles. With that in mind head coach Ryan Nelson is focusing more on improving each and every day instead of wins and losses. “We are a very young, inexperienced basketball team; however we always compete. Our goal this year is to finish. In other words we want to stay focused for all four quarters,” Nelson said. On the perimeter the Trojans will start all underclassmen, two of which are freshman. The two players making their high school debuts this year will be C.A. Gordon (5-4, Fr.) and Jerret Darden (5-7, Fr.). Jake Hanson (511, So.) meanwhile will provide a good dose of leadership on the perimeter as the only player in the backcourt with a year of varsity experience under his belt. Outlook: New head coach Michael Germany Schnatz steps into an interesting situation at Mooreland. He returns three starters from last year and has several juniors that appear ready to take that next step. Kadee Kenny (5-6, Sr.) will lead the team with Abby Gregory (5-4, Sr.). Both players are excellent ball handlers and give coach Schnatz options on both ends of the court. “With Kenny and Gregory back from injuries in 2013 and Alexis Adams joining the team, we will surprise some teams this year,” said coach Schnatz. Adams (6-2, Jr.) slides into the post position giving the Lady Bearcats a legitimate threat in the low post. Justyce Barnett (5-6, Jr.) and Taylor Ham (5-2, Jr.) are talented guards with good quickness and solid defensive play. Sophomore Kaitlyn Phillips stepped up after Kenny was injured and should play a

We should be very good on the offensive side of the ball. We worked hard to become a better defensive team. I feel that we will improve on a 20-6 season
