ANKLE, KNEE OR ELBOW PAIN? Pain Free Lounge is getting results. Pain Free Loung uses Medsonix which is a versatile therapy system that was founded in Las Vegas and used extensively by those with complicated medical conditions due to its ability to relieve chronic pain. Over time, athletes began to seek treatment to aid in healing after acute injuries, surgeries, and painful overuse. The story of Caden Nerdin . . .

A Medsonix treatment center in Utah is receiving tremendous feedback from the local sports community, and the tale of Caden Nerdin is definitely a success story.

Several years ago Caden rolled his ankle playing Soccer. He received immediate care from both the high school athletic trainer and his doctor. The ankle completely healed over the course of the next three months. About one year later Caden rolled the same ankle with the same severity but was experiencing a tremendous amount of pain. Caden's mother was looking for a way to relieve the pain and contacted Pain Free Lounge.

Two days following Caden’s first use of Medsonix he texted his mom, “Ok so I think the Medsonix thing gave me a lot of energy and I wasn’t tired this morning!”

Caden continued to receive the same medical care but he also made regular visits to Pain Free Lounge. His parents and coaches were astonished at the rate of recovery Caden experienced. Within three weeks he was able to play at his normal level, without pain. Caden uses Medsonix on a regular basis to up his game, feel more energized, maintain academic focus and to help heal injuries faster.

VYPE Players to Watch The Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year Ashley Gomez returns for her senior season with a ton a talent surrounding her. Gomez averaged 16.9 points per game with 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists last season making the senior guard one tough cookie on the court. Gomez is known for her fierce competitiveness, while displaying tremendous sportsmanship. Isaac Leggins – Putnam City West The other half of a dynamic duo at Putnam City West, Isaac Leggins has come into his own with his play at the forward position. At 6-foot-4 Leggins is athletic enough to move with the ball and battle in the paint. court. He’s an explosive player at 6-foot-2 from the guard position. Last season he averaged 11.2 points per game and 4.5 rebounds. For the season he recorded 22 steals on the defensive end of the floor. Hopkins joins fellow sophomore Mason Harrell as a tandem to watch this season. Myka Mullin – John Marshall A threat for a double-double on any given night, Mullin averaged over 12 points per game and 10 rebounds last season as a sophomore. She also shot 70 percent from the free-throw line and added 4.0 assists per contest. Mullin is described by coach Ebony Williams as an outstanding basketball player and a person of character. Look for the junior to make noise this season in Class 4A. O.C. Floyd – Jones Last season Floyd was named to the All-Conference team after averaging 10.2 points per game, 3.2 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals. The point guard was next to impossible to slow down once

he turned up the juice. As a senior Floyd is expected to lead this Longhorn basketball team and he’s looking forward to the challenge. Hannah Chandler – Christian Heritage The senior forward was a spark on both ends of the court for head coach Lisa Littlejim last season. On the offensive end she averaged 6.1 points per game, while grabbing 3.1 rebounds. Chandler has worked hard in the offseason to reach her full potential on the floor. The combo of Chandler and guard Victoria Frolich could prove difficult for most Class 2A schools to handle. Tori James – Blanchard Junior guard Tori James returns for Blanchard after a great sophomore campaign that witnessed her average 12.4 points and 3.0 rebounds a game. Head coach Jennifer Schneeberger is excited to see what this group can accomplish. James was an AllConference player last season with teammate and point guard Brittney Garrett.

VYPE Blake Landon Deer Creek High School Senior Blake Landon has certainly left his mark on the Deer Creek football program. Over his career Landon has recorded 630 tackles and 14 sacks with one interception from his linebacker positions. That production helped Landon garner VYPE Top 100 nominations two years in a row. “Being a part of the Top 100 is a real honor,” said Landon. In his career at Deer

Creek, Landon also found his way to the endzone scoring as a sophomore and a senior from his tight end position. This season he totaled 224 tackles and five sacks. His 224 tackles led all Class 5A players. In the playoffs Landon helped the Antlers to a, 42-37 win at home over Ardmore setting up a road game versus Skiatook. The Antlers gave the Bulldogs all they could, but in the end fell just short of advancing to

the semifinals. Landon was a leader on and off the field for Deer Creek and head coach Grant Gower. “Blake has been a big part of our success here. He showed up for every game and always gave 100%,” said coach Gower. For his commitment to his team and Deer Creek High School Blake Landon is the Edmond Area Athlete of the Month.

“We have a great senior class that will lead the Lady Bulldogs to success. This years team has really worked hard in the preseason. Deer Creek 2014 NO TITLE DEFENSE FOR DEER CREEK The Lady Antlers are the three-time defending state champions in Class 5A, but making it four in a row will not happen. Deer Creek and head coach Totsy Manning make the jump to Class 6A this season and coach Manning understand what it takes to win in a larger class.

Junior Rebecca Foster (5-7) and sophomore Kendra Levings (5-11) are interchangeable at guard and forward. Freshmen guards Taylor Norman and Erin Erdoes add depth to the roster. TOP SCORERS RETURN FOR LADY HUSKIES

The schedule never gets any easier in Class 6A, but for the Lady Huskies and head coach Pete Papahronis returning the teams two leading scorers may take some of

“We have a young team that will be taking the court this season. Our players are committed to each other and developing into a complete product with one goal,” said Manning.

Sophomore Sydney Manning was named MVP of the state tournament and newcomer of the year last season thanks to her 12 points per game and her play on both ends of the court. Junior point guard Maddie Rehl and senior guard MK Brinska are valuable assets coach Manning will depend on this season. A few underclassmen could dot the starting lineup, but also look for senior Kelcee Bennett (5-10) to contribute some quality minutes at the post position. Can the Lady Antlers make the jump and still be state champions? Anything is possible when you have one of the top players in the state and a program with a winning pedigree.

DANDY PEELER & LADY BULLDOGS LOOK TO SENIORS

Edmond Memorial head coach Dandy Peeler enters the 2015/16 season with six seniors on the roster and a renewed excitement for the upcoming season.

This years team has really worked hard in the preseason,” said coach Peeler. Four-year starter Paige Serup (5-6, Sr.) averaged 13 points, 3.8 assists and 2.0 steals a game last year. Serup will start at point guard, while Sydney Webb (5-6, Sr.) will start at the opposite guard spot. Maddie Huelskamp (5-7, Sr.) and Elyse Wyatt (5-11, Sr.) are listed as guards, but figure to play more of a small forward role this season. Jazmyne Laskey (5-7, Sr.)

is another senior coach Peeler will use in multiple ways. Avery Ogle (5-11, Sr.) is the sixth man off the bench giving the Lady Bulldogs some height in the paint. Also look for Kendra Levings (5-11, So.), Rebecca Foster (5-7, Jr.), Taylor Norman (5-6, Fr.) and Erin Erdoes (5-5, Fr.).

Edmond Memorial Bulldogs Head Coach: Shane Cowherd 2014-15 Record: 24-5 Assistant Coaches: Josh Williams, Rick Harris, Logan Thomas OUTLOOK Defense. That’s the best word to describe the Bulldogs this season. Not that they can’t score, they can, but their smothering style on the defensive end will cause all sorts of problems for opponents this season. “The Dogs look to improve on a state

semifinal appearance of a year ago. This should be a tremendous defensive team and a talented younger class is ready to make their mark,” said coach Cowherd. Kristian Doolittle (6-8, Sr.) may be the best player in the state. Doolittle has signed his letter of intent to play for the Sooners next season. Last year as a junior he averaged 17 points, 11.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists a game. Doolittle will get some help from guard Payton Moore (6-2, Sr.). Moore averaged 3.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals a game and should see those numbers increase this season. Travis Glover (60, Sr.) plays big at guard accounting for four points and nearly three steals a game. Junior forward Marlik Depp (6-3) had a great sophomore campaign with 6.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per contest. Other players to watch include Kamren Evans (5-10, Jr.) and Dylan Dobson (6-4, Sr.).

Edmond North Basketball Head Coach: Pete Papahronis 2014-15 Record: 4-20 Assistant Coaches: Allison McIntosh, Kaitlyn Morris, Kelsey Swiggart OUTLOOK With three retuning starters and an excellent offseason, the Lady Huskies appear to be on the right path to success. “We are looking to continue to build and improve. The team has worked hard in the offseason to prepare for a brutal conference. We have three and a half starters returning, including out top two scorers from last year. Should be a much improved team from last year,” said head coach Pete Papahronis. Abby Olsen (Jr.) returns after averaging 11.4 points a game last year, while fellow guard Hayli Hoffman (Sr.) returns averaging 10.3 points of her own. A pair of seniors help shore up

the starting lineup. Kendall Burdge and Elise Dilks will start at guard and forward respectively. Junior Emma Ledbetter and Veronica Harjo are expected to contribute as well. Overall the Lady Huskies have a talented roster, but lack some depth on the bench. Look for this team to continue improving as the season moves forward.

Edmond North Huskies Head Coach: Terry Evans 2014-15 Record: N/A Assistant Coaches: Rodney Dindy, Wil Scofield, Branden Mitchell OUTLOOK Entering his first season at Edmond North, head coach Terry Evans left the University of Central Oklahoma to take over the Huskies basketball program and in his words, “earn some respect” for this team and school. Leading the

way is top scorer Marques Wilson (6-4, Jr.) and point guard Tre Evans (6-2, Sr.). This combo could prove to be one of the best in Class 6A. Wilson averaged 16 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists for the Huskies, while Evans knocked down 14 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists at Putnam City West last year. Harrison Stoddart (6-7, Jr.) was clutch in the paint averaging 12 points and 5.0 rebounds. Guard Tyson Anderson (6-1, Sr.) is another shooter averaging 10 points per contest. Also look for Brock Butler (65, Sr.) to play a major role this season. Other players expected to see time this season include Mason Turner (6-5, Sr.), Anthony Belton (6-0, Jr.) and Will Boyd (6-5, Jr.).

Edmond Santa Fe Basketball Head Coach: Paul Bass 2014-15 Record: 25-3 Assistant Coaches: Mark Moore, Mike Morton, Whitney Jones OUTLOOK The success of the Lady Wolves basketball program over the last decade has been impressive to say the least. Head coach Paul Bass has led this team to a level of success the program has come to expect each and every year they take the floor. This season is no different. “We will have the opportunity to play very well as a team, which includes having another great defensive team and our offensive side should be able to score better than last year. We have been to state the last 10 out of 11 years so we plan on going back next year,” said Bass. This season the Lady Wolves return

with one of the best point guards in Class 6A. Jo’Nah Johnson (5-7, Jr.) averaged 12 points, 4.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals a game last year. Her production will go a long way in determining just how successful the Lady Wolves will be in 2015-16.

“Class 6A is one of the most competitive classes from top to bottom. We must compete, rebound and defend every game on every possession,” said Hatchett. Senior guard Conner Johnson (5-8) returns averaging 6.0 points, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals a game. Johnson is joined in the backcourt by guard Tyler Williams (6-1, Sr.). Williams averaged 6.0 points and 2.0 assists as well. Point guard Kristoff Hayden (6-1, Jr.) hit for eight points per contest last year making his the teams leading returning scorer. Jeremy Mays (6-2, Jr.) and James Bagwell (6-2, Sr.) round out the starting five. Bagwell makes his return to the court after suffering a season ending injury last year. Also look for DeAngelo Adkins (6-4, Jr.), Kellen Rowe (6-4, Jr.), Kamron Sellers (6-3, Jr.), Devon Scott (6-0, Sr.), T. Knight (6-1, So.) and Marcell Morrison (6-0, Sr.) at forward.

Edmond Santa Fe Wolves Head Coach: Lenny Hatchett 2014-15 Record: 22-8 Assistant Coaches: Tommy Griffin, Dan Pendergrass, Matt Groves OUTLOOK Understanding how tough Class 6A is this season is the first step in figuring out how to attack it. Head coach Lenny Hatchett knows very well how tough the schedule is this season, but is excited to put his team on the floor.

Deer Creek Basketball Head Coach: Totsy Manning 2014-15 Record: 24-5 Assistant Coaches: Jonathan Keathly, Jessica Findley OUTLOOK Head coach Totsy Manning has a young team this year, but returns a few players with solid experience. “We have a young team that will be taking the court this season. Our players are committed to each other and developing into a complete product with one goal,” said coach Manning. Last year’s Newcomer of the Year returns as Sydney Manning (5-8, So.) returns to lead the Lady Antlers. Last year she averaged 12 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Point guard Maddie Rehl (5-6, Jr.) and

guard MK Brinska (5-8, Sr.) combined can averaged nearly 10 points and 4.0 rebounds a game. Add Kendall Blackburn (6-0, So.) to the low post and Brynn Mouser (6-0, So.) at guard and you have the makings of a solid squad. Hannah Wade (5-8, Jr.), Lauren Fields (5-8, Fr.) and Kelcee Bennett (510, Sr.) will provide depth on the bench and give coach Manning solid options for a sixth man this season.

Deer Creek Antlers Head Coach: Matt Bailey 2014-15 Record: 19-10 Assistant Coaches: Mike Donnelly, Jason Esau OUTLOOK VYPE Top 100 selectee Elyjah Clark

(6-3, Sr.) is back and ready to get this season started. Clark averaged 15 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists last year and could see those numbers increase in all categories. Forward Noah McGraw (6-3, Sr.) brings his own set of skills to the floor. McGraw averaged 5.0 points and 3.0 rebounds last year and like Clark, should see improvements in his stats. Fellow forward Tanner Rehl (6-2, Sr.) is another senior with excellent size. Rehl is tenacious on both ends of the floor giving the Antlers a player that likes to push the pace. Jonathan Richardson (5-10, Sr.) and Jared Jackson (510, Sr.) give the Antlers an all-senior starting lineup. Depth may become an issue later in the season, but if they stay healthy Deer Creek could be a team to contend with in March.

Norman North Athlete of the Month Cameron Hardesty Norman North High School Senior quarterback Cameron Hardesty led the Timberwolves to a 7-4 record and a trip to the playoffs this season. His efforts on the gridiron have garnered the honor of being named the Norman North Athlete of the Month. This season Hardesty was stellar in the passing game completing 162 of 292 attempts for 2,617 yards and 23 touchdowns. But it wasn’t just through the air where Hardesty made an impact. On the ground he rushed for 373 yards on 76 attempts and added two touchdowns to his overall total. “Cam did a great job of operating our offense the way we ask the quarterback to do so. He had a great understanding of our game plan each week and really knew what we were

trying to accomplish. He was very accurate with the ball and distributed it around to all the different weapons that we had on offense. His ability to do that and to manage the reads in our run game as well allowed us to attack in many different ways,” said coach Brett Barnes. That ability to make reads and good decisions with the ball made Hardesty one of the top quarterbacks in Class 6A this season. The leadership showed by Hardesty was huge for Norman North this season and his teammates recognized what it would mean to the team this season by voting him as a captain when the season started. “Cam was voted a captain by his teammates because he is a great leader. He was extremely committed to the team. No one outworked Cam

in all his time here in our program, which explains his tremendous growth leading into his senior year and throughout the season. Being the quarterback of an offense that led 6A-1 in passing says a lot about his performance and abilities at that position,” said coach Barnes. This spring he will graduate from Norman North, but his legacy in the football program will carry on as the underclassmen look to reach the bar set high by Cameron Hardesty.

Alexa Scott Norman North How long have you been involved with FCA? I have been involved in FCA since my freshman year of high school. They had it when I was in the 8th grade at my middle school but I took a zero hour so I couldn't go so I started my freshman year.

Who influenced you to join? Both of my older sisters went when they were in high school so I really looked forward to it. A bunch of my friends went to Wednesday night church then FCA right after every week. How has FCA made an impact in your life on and off the field? FCA has impacted my life for the better. It's kept me grounded on and off the court. When things get overwhelming for me in both basketball and life in general, coming together with my friends talking about Jesus helps remind me that there's so much more to life than what I am worried about.Â

How have your beliefs helped you as an athlete? My beliefs have helped me as an athlete because I try to always do the right thing in whatever I do, on and off the court. Of course I am a competitor, but I always try to honor God in whatever I do. What is your favorite Bible verse and why? My favorite verse is 2 Corinthians 5:7 "For we walk by faith, not by sight" because when things get hard in life, the Lord is the only person who can guide us. Putting your trust in him in everything makes life and sports so much easier. 26

Winston Nelson Norman North High School Head coach Bryan Merritt has a great team at Norman North and is turning the school into a true basketball program. One player helping lead the way is junior forward Winston Nelson. Nelson is one of the starters on the team this season that features some tremendous talent, but few can equal Nelson in the classroom. “My favorite subject in school is

probably History, but I’m currently in three AP classes as a junior and took four AP classes in each of my previous two years in high school,” said Nelson. Bringing such a cerebral approach to the game of basketball is just one aspect of Nelson’s game that coach Merritt appreciates about Nelson. He also averages 5.0 points and nearly 4.0 rebounds a game. Off the court Nelson is involved in a program called SPUD, Students Performing Unselfish Deeds.

Q&A

Norman Academic Athlete

“I’m the head of SPUD at Norman North. It’s our philanthropy week where clubs volunteer for organizations around the community,” said Nelson. Only a junior, Nelson is making plans for college and is looking forward to pursuing a degree and playing basketball. “I would like to study Economics and Marketing in college and play basketball,” said Nelson. Both are goals that Nelson will surely reach.

OC basketball looks to contend in Heartland Conference, Division II land Conference’s best center, junior John Moon of Crescent, who was a second-team All-Heartland selection after finishing in the top five in the league last season in scoring (fourth with 17.8 points per game), rebounding (third with 7.7 per game), blocked shots (second with 2.0 per game), field-goal percentage (second at 61.6 percent) and minutes played (second with 33.0 per game).

John Moon With most of their top players returning, Oklahoma Christian’s basketball teams are looking for big seasons in 2015-16 as they make their full-time debut in NCAA Division II. OC’s men went 6-20 last season for veteran coach Dan Hays – who’s entering his 33rd season with the Eagles – but have four starters back and three others who likely would have started if not for injury and administrative issues. Leading the way will be the Heart-

Moon will enter the season opener on Nov. 13 against Texas A&M-Commerce with a streak of recording at least one blocked shot in 25 straight games.

The Eagles should have another frontline force in 6-foot-8 senior Chiza Ntirata, who will play his final collegiate season at OC after transferring from Clarendon (Texas) College.

The Eagles’ starting backcourt – junior wing Jordan Rutherford and sophomore guards Jordan Box (10.7 ppg) and Elijah Strickland return, along with two other guards making their return from injury, sophomores Zach Norris and Deric Shelton. Another sophomore wing, Cameron Peters, showed flashes of promise last season, too.

McKenzie Stanford The Lady Eagles, coming off a 12-14 season for coach Stephanie Findley – entering her 31st season – will be led by junior forward McKenzie Stanford of Perkins. The second-team All-Heartland pick averaged 16.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game last season, then joined the OC track and field team and tied the school high jump record with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches, earning Division II All-South Central Region honors in the process. OC will have depth and experience all over the court. Senior guard Sydney Hill, who received honorable mention on the All-Heartland list after averaging 12.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.1 steals per game, leads a veteran guard crew and the Lady Eagles should be bolstered inside by a pair of junior-college transfers, Hannah Holasek and Sarah Parker. At season’s end, both teams figure to be in the mix to make the eight-team Heartland postseason tournament, which will be played in Tulsa at Union High School.

A LONGing For The Game

Mustang head coach Terry Long enters the new season with a talented roster led by Curtis Haywood and Jakolby Long. We spent a few minutes catching up with coach Long and discussed the team, his influences on and off the court and his approach to the game.

VYPE: Coach as the season gets underway, what do you look forward to the most? Long: The game, I love the atmosphere the anticipation and competition of great teams. VYPE: Tell us who in your coaching career

has influenced you on and off the court? Long: Every coach that I had the privilege to play for and coach with. I've learned so much from each one of them. From my first coach in middle school coach Smith, my high school coaches Willie Kelley, Marvin Mack and Phil Ingersoll. My college coaches Riley Wallace and George Hauser. Then all the staffs that I've worked with including Willie Kelley, Walt Brewer, Patrick Cudjoe, Kevin Jones, Gary Jones Jr, Gerrell Thomas, Lance Cudjoe, Randy Ponder, Adam Liberty, Curtis Haywood and Kendrick Jackson. My bosses: Billy Hurte, Chuck Bailey and definitely all of the players I coached. Everyone listed have influenced me as a coach and definitely as a person.

players are and focus on them before the big game? Long: Definitely not breaking down film and scouting every opponent. That's why I feel honored to have the staffs that I've had over my coach career. We focus on the total team with an emphasis on the effective players.

VYPE: What’s one rule in high school basketball that needs to be reviewed and possibly changed? Long: Shot clock. The point of emphasis this year: NO TOUCH ANYWHERE! VYPE: What does this Mustang team need to do to put together a great season and make a real push for a title? Long: Play Mustang basketball! Starts with humility. Find their lane and "run!”

VYPE: Do you spend time breaking down opponents or do you know who their best

Head Coach: Eric Sailer 2014-15 Record: 13-11 Assistant Coaches: Keith Cole, Kwauntu Cammon, Rachel Allred OUTLOOK Head coach Eric Sailer will field a young squad this season, but he has hopes that they can mature and come together as the season moves forward. Senior guard Shariah Anderson (5-9) returns averaging 6.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals a game. Anderson brings leadership and experience to the floor for coach Sailer. Something this team will need early on. Sophomore guard Ashlyn Basler (5-9) averaged 7.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals as a freshman and has the potential to become the teams go-to player. Becka Cammon (5-9, So.) is another young player with tremendous potential. Cammon averaged 4.0 points and 3.0 rebounds last season and is expected to see those numbers climb. Jules

Martin (5-9, So.) brings her 4.5 points and 3.0 boards to the floor giving coach Sailer another scoring option. Senior Megan Sailer (6-1) will start at forward giving the Millerettes a presence in the paint. Sailer accounted for 2.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks last year. “Every year has its challenges, this year we are excited about the task at hand. We will have a very young team that is willing to practice hard and give max effort at all times. This is exciting to be able to coach these girls. We may take some lumps, but with their attitudes and work ethic we will bounce right back ready for the next obstacle. I am proud of my girls and who they have become. This will be a great year to be a Millerette,” said coach Sailer.

OUTLOOK On paper the Millers appear to be a team with many positives including returning several key players from last years squad. But head coach Scott Raper will tell you this team has talent, but there is a learning curve they will experience early in the season. “We will have a lot to build off of because we return four major minutes players, but will start off with a learning curve due to youth on our bench,” said coach Raper.

Drake Landeros (6-5, Sr.) has the talent to be a double-double guy. He averaged 10 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists last season. Landeros is joined in the backcourt by Jordan Williams (6-2, Jr.) who also averaged 10 points and 3.0 rebounds per contest. The tandem will create problems for smaller guards in the class. Throw in Vernon Turner (6-2, Jr.) and you have a group of players that can shoot and play lockdown defense. Turner averaged 5.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game last year. Senior Jeremiah Gibson (6-1) could lead this team in scoring this year. As a junior he averaged 15 points and 2.0 rebounds. Forward/center Daunte McGee (6-4, Jr.) will use his size and athleticism to dominate the paint, while freshman phenom Rickey Jones (59) will come off the bench giving the Millers an extra spark on the offensive end of the court. Other players to look for include Sam O’Bannon (6-2, Sr.) at forward, Tallyn Brazell (6-3, Jr.) at forward, Christian Barnes (6-1, Jr.) at guard and Cole Bailey (6-2, Sr.) at guard.

John Marshall Basketball John Marshall Lady Bears Head Coach: Ebony Williams 2014-15 Record: 12-12 Assistant Coaches: Rashawn Woods, Johnny Hargis OUTLOOK Head coach Ebony Williams enters the 2015-16 season with the hopes of turning the Lady Bears into one of the powerhouse teams in Class 4A. “Victory always starts in the head. It’s a state of mind. Then spreads with such affirmations that destiny can do nothing buy obey,” said coach Williams. Leading the way is All-Conference, AllDistrict combo guard Marshay Walker (5-8, Jr.). Walker can average nearly 20 points a game, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 5.0 assists per game, while hitting 75% from the charity line. Myka Mullin (5-9, Jr.) is talented enough to play forward or guard averaging over

12 points and 10 rebounds a game. The double-double threat will find help in the paint as Jocilynn Manous (5-11, Sr.) brings solid experience to the floor. Manous averaged 10 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest last year. Rounding out the starting five is sophomore guard Lovely Spencer (52). Spencer hustles on both ends of the court accounting for 12 points and 7.0 steals a game. The starting five for the Lady Bears has the talent to be great and if coach Williams can get the girls believing they can be an opponent no one wants to face. John Marshall Bears Head Coach: Patrick Cudjoe 2014-15 Record: N/A Assistant Coaches: Anthony Gardner, Jody Carruthers, Demetrius Aimes

OUTLOOK Entering his first season as the head coach of the Bears, Patrick Cudjoe is excited to see what they can produce under his new system. Senior guard Carvelle Smith (5-11, Sr.) leads a talented backcourt that features DeAndre Knight (5-11, Jr.) and Jamar Covington (5-11, Sr.). The trio of players gives the Bears athleticism at the guard position that other opponents will have trouble matching. Throw in their ability to play a smothering style of defense and you have the makings of one great unit. Mekail Hall (6-3, Jr.) and Maleke Hall (6-3, Sr.) will patrol the paint using their length and power to control the boards and score down low. Other players to look for this season include Elisha Lewis (6-2, Sr.), Ruben Carter (6-0, Sr.), Marc Edwards (6-4, Fr.), Quavion Lurks (5-11, Fr.) and Josh Simmons (6-0, So.).

Head Coach: Karri Sears 2014-15 Record: 7-16 Assistant Coaches: Courtney Markes, Greg Rideau, Taylor Geddis OUTLOOK “Rise and grind!” Head coach Karris Sears said that’s the motto for this season. “We are going to get back to the state tournament. My seniors have been there two years and have their sights on a third trip and state contention this season.” Junior forward Ossyana Ozoani (6-0) averaged 14 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals a game last season. Her production in the paint is crucial for the

Lady Eagles this season. Breail Goodlow (6-0, Sr.) joins Ozoani in the paint, but has the athleticism to step out and play guard. Last season Goodlow averaged 9.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals a game. Tremendous production from a combo-position player. Point guard Jakira Wilson (5-7, Jr.) is quick with the ball, makes smooth passes and has a nice shot from the perimeter. Wilson knocked down 7.0 points, grabbed 2.0 rebounds and accounted for 4.0 assists per contest as a sophomore. Speaking of sophomores, Laderia Lorne (5-6, So.) cracks the starting lineup this season at guard. Lorne is a solid

6.0 points, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals a game. Aubrianna Freeman (5-5, So.) is another guard with excellent skills handling the ball. Freeman’s play could shore up the backcourt for coach Sears and give the Lady Eagles one of the top units in Class 5A. Nadia Davis (5-10, Sr.) and Sidney Dennis (6-1, Jr.) are two post players that not only have experience on the floor bringing size and athleticism off the bench. The confidence level at Del City is high and the team is coming together nicely. Look for the Lady Eagles to climb the ladder of success and win their way into post season play.

Midwest City Basketball

Midwest City Lady Bombers Head Coach: Katie Tompson 2014-15 Record: 22-6 Assistant Coaches: Jennifer Douglas, Fanee Webster, Shilliale Jones Outlook The motto for the season is #WorkHarderThan31. “Every day our focus is to work harder than the other 31 teams in Class 6A,” said head coach Katie Thompson. Chinna Fair (5-9, Sr.) shot 42% from the field and averaged 10 points and 4.0 steals a game. Fair can get it done on both ends of the floor, but has help from point guard Asia Davis (5-7, Sr.). Davis accounted for 14 points a game last year shooting 41% from the field and 33% from three-point land. The pair could be the best combo in Class 6A. Brooklyn Reeves (5-9, Sr.) brings experience to the floor with Ireon Smith (6-0, Sr.) starting at the post. These

four seniors will lead a group of talented players as coach Tompson works to build depth on the bench. Class 6A is loaded with great teams this season, but the Midwest City girls have a shot at doing something great if they continue to outwork their opponents and bring that desire for success to the floor every night.

along with newcomer Keyshawn Embrey,” said head coach Dewayne Bradley. Keyshawn Embry (6-3, So.) will join senior Richard Anderson (6-3) at guard. Anderson averaged 16 points a game and recorded 70 assists last season. Jalen Redmond (6-4, So.) is a stat machine averaging 13 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest. Both Embrey and Redmond are two of the top sophomores in the state. Marquis Smith (5-9, So.) and DJ Walker (6-2, So.) are two more experienced sophomores that figure heavy into the overall scheme this year. Josh Rivers (5-9, So.), Juwan Walker (5-9, So.) and freshman JD Ray (6-0) give the team solid depth at the guard spot. One player expected to have a solid year is senior Brendan Brown (6-4, Sr.). Last year Brown went for 11.3 points a game giving the Bombers another scoring threat on the floor.

Midwest City Bombers Head Coach: Dewayne Bradley 2014-15 Record: 17-10 Assistant Coaches: Scott Bradley, Donald Butler Outlook Winning 17 games last year has this team believing they can make another run at the gold ball in 2015-16. “We won 17 games and lost in the area finals starting three freshmen and a junior that are back We are still very young but have a years experience

Carl Albert Basketball Carl Albert Titans Head Coach: Jay Price 2014-15 Record: 25-4 Assistant Coaches: Eddie Harrell, Cameron Couch, Jordan Price, Justin Mitchell Outlook Graduation may have hit the Titans hard this year, but head coach Jay Price is confident they have the pieces to make this season another successful one. “While returning only two starters, we feel like we have a good group of young players that can fill in. We will miss our graduated senior class for

sure, but hope to put ourselves in a position to be competitive and return to the state tournament. We won’t have the size we had last year but may be better overall at the guard position by the time playoffs roll around,” said coach Price. Returning guard Mason Harrell (58, So.) averaged 12.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and grabbed 44 steals last year. Harrell’s production coupled with sophomore Treyvon Hopkins (6-2) play inside should give the Titans a solid inside-outside

combo. Hopkins averaged 11.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.0 assist and nabbed 22 steals of his own. Bryce Mooreland (5-9, So.) will see an increase in minutes this year and his stats should rise along with forward Nathan Cook (6-4, Jr.). Cook will play forward/post where his size will help the Titans crash the boards. Quavon Pearson (6-0, Sr.), Jaedon Pool and Nate McTernan give the Titans solid depth on the bench.
