Megan Molinsky – Edmond North High School Edmond North senior cheerleader Megan Molinsky recently helped the Lady Huskies win both a regional title and the Class 6A state title. Molinsky also was a big reason why North won the academic state championship.
Carrying a 3.9 grade point average Molinsky is currently taking four different AP classes including AP Government, AP Spanish, AP English Literature and AP Statistics. Molinsky also has taken four other AP classes in the previous two years and says her favorite subject is English

Norman Academic Athlete of the Month
Jessie Barrett - Norman North High School
Jessie Barrett is a varsity cheerleader and is the Norman Academic Athlete of the Month. Jessie recently competed with her cheer squad at the state competition on the campus of the University of Oklahoma. Jessie is a part of the Student Council. Key Club, Rotary Club and the Spanish Club. Her role on the student council is the S.P.U.D. chair. Jessie also takes AP English 4 while carrying a 3.87 GPA. “Right now my dream is to go to Oklahoma State University and be a part of their cheerleading team and major in Human Resource Management,” Jessie said. But her first priority is finding a balance between cheer and her schoolwork. “I try not to let cheer overtake school work, or vice versa. I make sure I have enough time during the day to finish my homework, even if that means I have to stay up late.” Jessie Barrett is an excellent example of a student-athlete who balances school work with sports, while participating in several clubs and activities at school. For her commitment to Norman North and her team, Jessie Barrett is the Norman Academic Athlete of the Month.

held on Nov. 8 in Wichita, Kan. OC should be among the favorites at the NCCAA Championship in Houghton, N.Y., on Nov. 15.
Three Oklahoma Christian teams figure to be in the running for national championships during a busy fall season on the OC campus. OC’s men’s cross country team has won two national titles in the past three years (2011 NAIA, 2012 NCCAA) and was fourth at the NCCAA meet last year. The Eagles have plenty of proven, experienced runners returning this fall, including junior Bryant Keirns, who was the Heartland Conference individual runner-up before earning NCCAA All-America honors in 2013, and junior Timothy Zuercher, who was an NCCAA AllAmerican in the 10,000 meters in track and field this past May. The Eagles, coached by Wade Miller, were picked by Heartland Conference coaches as the preseason favorite and will look to again finish first in the league meet, which will be

Under coaches David Lynn and Greg Lynn, OC’s golf programs are routinely among the nation’s finest at the smallcollege level. OC’s men have finished in the top four at a national tournament (either NAIA or NCCAA) for each of the past 15 academic years and won national titles in 2009 (NAIA), 2011 (NAIA) and 2012 (NCCAA).
The Eagles have three returning standouts this season. Junior Sam Johnston is a two-time NCAA Division II and NCCAA All-America pick who already has won four individual titles. Senior Jared Consoli earned NAIA AllAmerica honors as a sophomore in 2012 and is back after a redshirt season, while senior Trey Payne finished in the top five in his
final two tournaments last spring. OC received votes in the preseason NCAA Division II coaches’ poll.
OC’s women also have established a track record of success, finishing in the top two in 13 tournaments and winning seven individual titles during the program’s first three seasons of competition. OC was second in the NCCAA women’s tournament in 2012 and third last year.
The Lady Eagles have seven players with starting experience on their roster. OC is led by senior Anna Arrese Cortadellas, a three-time All-American who has earned national player-ofthe-week honors from either the NAIA or NCCAA 12 times. Another senior, Catherine Odgers, was an NCCAA All-American in 2012. Junior Audrey Meisch won a tournament last year and sophomores India Matthews, Allison Sell and Dana Todd all started every tournament in 2013-14. Junior Alyssa Schneider also has started at times for the Lady Eagles.
Canadian Valley Tech Athlete of the Month Chandler Garrett - Mustang High School Mustang junior quarterback Chandler Garrett has been lighting up defenses all season long and in the process has guided the Broncos to a 7-3 overall record and a spot in the Class 6A-I playoffs.
So far this year Garrett has completed 167 of 276 pass attempts for 2,156 yards and 18 touchdowns. Don’t think you can just drop eight in coverage against Garrett though. The junior has also

By Darin Allred
Southern Nazarene University head softball coach Tere Webber now considers Van Hedrick her brother. It was on that day that the NCTC softball team was at SNU in Bethany, Okla., to scrimmage Webber’s team. After the scrimmage ended, the two
What happened just a few hours after that changed everyone’s life. The NCTC bus was hit by an 18-wheeler that crossed a grassy median in Southern Oklahoma, killing four Lady Lion softball players and injuring a dozen others, along with Coach Hedrick.
While the tragic accident has resonated with people around the country, it hit close to home for Webber, who has been a coach at SNU for almost two decades. She remembers the NCTC players she had seen play on that Sept. 26 day. When she heard about the accident, she immediately thought of the girls she had seen on her field just a few hours before. In late October, Webber and Asst.
Coach Brian Madden made the trip from Bethany to Gainesville to visit with Coach Hedrick and present NCTC President Dr. Brent Wallace a check for $20,000 to go to a family benefit fund the school set up in the days after the crash. “Southern Nazarene University and North Central Texas College will be forever linked,” Dr. Wallace said. “We are overwhelmed by the generosity offered to our Lady Lions and their families by SNU, and would like to express our sincere appreciation for their gift.” “It’s just the softball world,” she explained when asked why her team wanted to raise money for the NCTC families. “It had such a huge effect on everyone that you just want to support in some way, somehow to make it easier.” www.nctc.edu www.snu.edu

McGuinness Academic Athlete of the Month Conor Maguire
Exceeding expectations is nothing new for Bishop McGuinness junior Conor Maguire. The Irish inside linebacker is a leader in a young defense that shows maturity beyond its age. As one of the team’s few veterans, Maguire leads by example by making smart decisions on the field and focusing on team success. His classroom success is exceptional. Maguire’s rigorous class load is composed of AP English and U.S. History, as well as Pre-AP Chemistry, Latin and Calculus. Despite a harsh schedule, his hard work pays off with a 3.9 GPA. Maguire displays leadership skills not only on the gridiron, but also as an active participant in student council.
Charlotte Edmonds
After high school Maguire said he plans to attend Loyola University Chicago. Maguire said he was “born to be in Chicago,” pointing out his middle name, Wrigley, is taken from the Chicago Cubs’ home field.
It is endurance that leads Bishop McGuinness sophomore Charlotte Edmonds to success. She is a key member of the school’s cross country team, who currently is in a tight battle with Deer Creek for the top of the girl’s Class 5A ranking. Edmonds’ best time in the 5K race is 20 minutes and 48 seconds, a full 30 seconds less than at the beginning of the season. She is part of a Bishop McGuinness team that is arguably the most complete team not only in 5A, but in all of Oklahoma. Not one runner sticks out above the rest. All are reliable and well versed in the mechanics of running. They compete as a team, not as individuals.
Edmonds’ class load is composed of AP World History and Pre-AP Chemistry, Algebra II and English II. Despite the challenge, she maintains a 3.85 GPA. She has yet to make final plans for life after high school. She is currently focused on school and running.
