Winfield’s Aleigha Gale
Halstead’s Dawson Driskill Dawson Driskill is a pitcher for Halstead High School and a future member of the Friends University baseball team.
The Halstead pitcher made many headlines last season throwing multiple no-hitters and picking up a few shutouts Dawson Driskill along the way. From the mound, Driskill became a pitcher batters hatted to face. With excellent control and durability, Briskill quickly became someone worth recruiting to the next level. Coached by Danny Driskill, the excitement around his senior season genuine and family and friends were looking forward to seeing him on the field pitching for the Dragons. His parents wanted to congratulate him on an outstanding high school career and a promising future.
Softball standout Aleigha Gale is a senior at Winfield High School where she certainly left her mark. Last season Gale was named to the Aleigha Gale All-League first team voted on by the coaches of the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division III.
Gale is known for her great pitching and play at second base, but she’s also a tremendous hitter. She hit .447 that season and helped her team to a league record of 7-3. In fact, every member of the starting lineup for Winfield made the All-League team. In November of 2019, Gale made her decision to take her game to the next level and play for Friends University.

Jacob Karsak was a threesport athlete at Derby High School where he played football, basketball and tennis. Karsak was a second team all-league and honorable mention all-state tight end for the Panther football team, which won their second consecutive title this past season.

On the basketball floor, Karsak was an honorable mention all-league performer this past year. Outside of sports, Karsak made the KBCA All-Academic team this year and was also voted the FCA Male Athlete of the Year. Next year, Karsak will be attending Southwestern Oklahoma State to play football.

All Seasons Letterman of the Month: Allie Ebenkamp Allie Ebenkamp was a standout softball player at Augusta High School.
Ebenkamp, who hit over .500 and was one of the leaders in Allie Ebenkamp home runs, was a first team all-state and first team allleague first basemen for the Orioles last season, who won the 4A Tournament.
Ebenkamp actually made a diving play to tag first base, which won the state game for the Orioles. It is the accompanying photo. She was expected to be one of the top players in the area this season.
Not only was Ebenkamp a softball player, but she also played tennis and participated in FCCLA and band.
Next year, Ebenkamp plans to go to Butler Community College and major in nursing and become an EMT.

Undoubtedly, Schultz would have been one of the favorites to win the individual title this season. In 2019, Schultz finished the season with the best scoring average in the state at two-under par. In 2018, Schultz had the best scoring average in Class 4A.

Schultz was a member of the Jaguars state tournament teams in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and was instrumental in Andover Central’s state championship team last year.Next year, Schultz will be playing golf at Kansas State.

Along with soccer, Alkoury was a two-time state tournament qualifier in tennis, where he was hopeful of having a big year this year. At Andover, Alkhoury is a member of National Honor Society, where he carried a grade point average of 4.19. He graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Schultz won his league tournament, as well as his regional in 2019 on his way to an eighth place finish at the 5A Tournament, where he shot even par.

Ark City Softball The Ark City softball team was primed to take the next step in 2019, after losing in the regional finals in 2018.
The Bulldogs returned 11 seniors, five of which had signed to play softball at the collegiate level.
Menley Westoff was a second team all-league utility player last year, but will be a pitcher for UTEP next year. Espy Daniels was a first team allleague infield selection last year
and will be playing at Neosho County Community College next year.
Maggie Musson was a second team allleague outfielder and will be playing softball at Cowley Community College.

In 2019, Dirkzwager won the 100-yard freestyle, the 100-yard backstroke and was also a part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team and the 400-yard freestyle relay. She won the same events, minus the 100-yard freestyle as a

Campus’s Austin Warkins

Austin Warkins was a three-year varsity starter on the Campus baseball team and would have been one of the Colts’ top players this season.
Warkins was an all-league honorable mention first basemen for Campus last season, which won the 6A Tournament. In both the regional final game and state final game, Warkins had a significant impact on the result. With the game tied against Junction City in the regional final, Warkins came in to pitch four scoreless innings and then he
drove home the winning run in the bottom of the 12th.
At state, he again pitched the final three innings of a tied game before again driving in the winning run against Lawrence Free State.
Warkins is going to play baseball next season at State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Missouri. He plans on studying Engineering Design Technology in order to seek his career goal of becoming an architect.

Bailey Goodman BAILEY GOODMAN-HALSTEAD Bailey Goodman from Halstead was poised to have a great softball season for the Dragons, after coming back from an injury that kept her out the entire 2019 season. As a sophomore, Goodman was an honorable mention all-league player as a designated player and was going to play pitcher and first base for Halstead this season. Goodman had shoulder surgery a year ago and worked diligently to rehabilitate her shoulder in order to have a successful season as a senior. In fact, that played a significant factor in her recovery.
Libby Brooks was a second team all-league selection as a defender, while Lauren Brooks was an honorable mention all-league player as a forward.
In total, Carroll was set to return six players who were either first or second team all-league, which was the most of any team in the league.

Udall’s Trevor Whiteman Trevor Whiteman is a four-sport athlete at Udall High School, where he played football, basketball, baseball and track.
In football, Whiteman was an all-state honorable mention punter in 2017 and then an honorable mention all-state kicker in 2018 and 2019. On the basketball floor, Udall went 19-4 this season and Whiteman was the team’s third leading scorer. As a sophomore in 2017, Whiteman was an honorable mention all-state centerfielder in baseball. And finally in track, Whiteman was the leg of Udall’s 2018 4x400 relay team that won its regional and made it to the state tournament. That relay team also set a new school record.

Outside of sports, Whiteman is the 2020 Salutatorian for Udall, while also participating in band and choir. Next year, Whiteman plans to attend Hutchinson Community College, where he will be kicking for the Blue Dragons.

Chance Cook was a standout track athlete at Central Burden High School where he excelled at the pole vault.
Cook was the 2019 state champion in the pole vault, where he set his personal record. He threw 15-00 in the finals and the next best was 13-06. Outside of track, Cook was the Valedictorian at Central Burden and was a KU Honors Scholar.

Cook also won Central Burden’s Citizenship Award twice and the Raider Work Ethic Award. Next fall, Cook is going to Oral Roberts University where he plans on getting into the medical field by majoring in Biology.

Brayden Sadler is a two-sport athlete for Udall High School, where he played basketball and ran track. Sadler is a highly decorated basketball player for Udall. He holds the school records in most career points (1,747), most three-point baskets in a game (eight) and most points scored in a game (48). He received first team all-league honors as a junior and a senior and was second team allstate as a junior and first team all-state as a senior.

In track, Sadler is a part of the 4x400 relay team that holds the school record (3:38:28). Next year, Sadler plans to play basketball at Ottawa University and major in Exercise Science.

Levy’s Braden Haworth Braden Haworth is a senior at Levy Special Education who is a passionate Wichita State, Kansas, Chiefs and Royals fan.
Haworth was born at 23 weeks and weighed just over a pound, which made for a lifetime of challenges. He is blind, nonverbal and autistic but lives life to its fullest every single day.
Perhaps the most significant challenge Haworth has had to overcome is 35 bowl surgeries since 2015. He is TPN dependent, but still loves to taste flavors like Cheetos and pizza every once in a while. One of his favorite hobbies is sitting outside and listening to music.

Cedar Vale’s Devin Catlin Devin Catlin is the type of player every coach wants on their team. Versatile and eager to play, Catlin possesses the ability to shift from one position to another flawlessly, while keeping the offense going at the plate. Head coach Luke Wachter of Cedar Vale High School had this to say about the future graduate. “I can’t say enough about Devin he can play almost anywhere. Extremely athletic and he’s a high character kid that comes from a great family and is
very coachable.”
Catlin has enjoyed a great career at Cedar Vale High School and is now looking forward to the next chapter of life.
“He’s a two-time all-state player/allleague player. He’s the best pitcher in our league and has been featured by Sports in Kansas numerous times,” said coach Wachter. “There’s no doubt he would have done more of the same his senior season.”

ATHLETE OF THE MONTH Clarie Clark - Garden Plain Clarie Clark from Garden Plain was a standout track athlete for three years. She qualified for the state tournament all three years in the 4x100 relay, 4x400 relay, the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.

Buhler Girls Soccer The Buhler girls soccer team took third last year at the Class 4-1A Tournament and graduated no seniors, so expectations were high this spring for the Crusaders. Overall Buhler returned six all-state players and 11 allleague players.
The seven-player senior class of Maggie Epp, Payton DeMeyer, Aliyah Frederick, Daycee DeWindt, D’Naeya Gray, Emily Schmidt and Kaylea Adcock won just four games as freshman, eight games as sophomore and then 15 games last year. “The girls have been focused

Clarice Nichols Clarice Nichols from Heights has been a four-year letter winner on the track and field team.
Nichols also participated in cross country, as well as wrestling in the girls first season this year.
Her 2019 track season was a very decorated one, as she took fifth in the 4x100 relay, eighth in the 100-meter and ninth in the 200-meter. Those numbers were likely to improve this year.

Haven’s Faith Paramore Faith Paramore is a senior at Haven High School and will be attending Oral Roberts University on a basketball scholarship next year. Paramore was a two-time all-state, four year all-league basketball player for the Wildcats. She led Haven to a record of 71-22 with two state tournament appearances in four years.
Not only was Paramore a standout basketball player, but she was also a fouryear letterman in track and was a state champion in the 800 meter in 2019. She also qualified for state in the 4x400 relay,
the 400-meter, shot put and javelin.
As a volleyball player, she was a threeyear varsity starter and earned allleague honors. Additionally, Paramore participated in powerlifting for two years and placed third in state in the clean, bench press and squat last season. In the classroom, Paramore held a 4.0 grade point average, was a part of the National Honors Society, was the Student Council President in 2019-2020, KAYS president and also was the newspaper and yearbook editor, where she earned awards for sports reporting.

Wichita North’s Greysin Wirths Greysin Wirths, the daughter of Michael and Carla, is the Center Snare for Wichita North High School’s Marching Band. She is also a member of the Jazz Band and has played the drum kit for North’s Pep Band since her sophomore year. “G” (as she’s known by friends and family) took her first drum lesson at seven years old and was part of the percussion section at Allison Middle School. One of the many highlights of her high school career was earning “Best Overall Drum Line” at Neewollah
as a junior in 2018.
Greysin has already committed to Hutchinson Community College and plans to study art and major in cosmology. She is currently in the interview process for a drum line position at HCC. She is also planning to return to North High as a part of the band mentorship program.
Outside of school Greysin spends her time spoiling her dog Tika, taking care of her many reptiles (3 snakes, 2 bearded dragons & a gecko), and perfecting her love of hair and makeup.

Haley Miller was a three-sport star at Buhler High School where she played golf, basketball and softball, while also being an accomplished powerlifter. Miller played varsity golf for three years, varsity basketball for four years and varsity softball for three years. In golf, Miller led the Crusaders to a 4A championship in 2019 where she shot a two-day total of 168 to finish runner-up in the individual competition. Miller was a first team all-league and honorable mention all-state
basketball player for Buhler this year and led the Crusaders to a 4A Tournament appearance. As a softball player, Miller was an all-league honorable mention player for Buhler, where she hit .447 last season.
Lastly in powerlifting, Miller was a state champion in the 105-pound weight class in clean, bench press and squat and then overall state champion in all lifts. Next year, Miller is going to play softball at Hutchinson Community College.

Harley Blaske
Harley Blaske - Macksville Harley Blaske is a multiple sport athlete for Macksville High School where over his four years, he competed in football, basketball, cross country, track and powerlifting.
In football, Blaske was a three-time all-league performer on defense and was a first team all-league player on offense this past season. He also earned all-district honors for three years. On the track, Blaske was a part of the 4x400 relay team that took 13th last season at the state tournament.
Blaske was also a part of Macksville’s cross country team that took ninth at state in 2018 and the basketball team that made it to the state tournament. Next year, Blaske plans to attend McPherson College to study Biology, while playing football and running track.

He won four state championship awards by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters in March. Beyond sports and journalism, Bezdek was also involved in choir, National Honor Society and Scholar’s Bowl. He also helped with a local little league baseball organization called League 42. Next year, Bezdek will be attending Oklahoma State and plans to major in sports media.
Cameron is undecided on where he plans to attend college. He loves basketball and attending any KU game.

Wellington’s Peyton Linker Peyton Linker is a member of the varsity golf team at Wellington High School. In 2018, Peyton was involved in a golfing accident. He was outside practicing and when he swung his club and the metal shaft snapped. The shaft nicked an artery in his wrist and he had to regain feeling back in some of his fingers. Even after going through all of that his dream is to still play golf. Wellington placed second
at state last year. Linker is involved with the DARE program at school and has volunteered at the VFW in Derby Kansas, helping to feed veterans. His hobbies include golfing, being outside and helping his dad with his paintless dent repair company. After graduation, Peyton plans to play college golf while pursuing his degree.

Issac Oquendo is a cross country and long distance track runner at Campus High School.
Oquendo is a two-time state qualifier for the Colts cross country program and this past year, he took 44th at the 6A Tournament.

To go along with his state meet qualifications, Oquendo was also a first team all-league runner in 2019, where he took second at the league meet. He was a second team all-league runner in 2018. Oquendo showed considerable improvement from his freshman year to his senior year this year. As a freshman, his 5k time was 20:38 and this year his personal record time was 16:40. He also made it onto Campus top 10-school banner this year.

Lauren Rudy - Kapaun Mt. Carmel Lauren Rudy was a standout three-sport athlete at Kapaun Mount Carmel High School, where she competed in golf, basketball and soccer.
In golf, Rudy was a part of the Crusaders golf team that took fourth at the 5A Tournament last fall and had the fourth best score on the team that day.
On the basketball floor, Rudy was an allleague honorable mention selection this year and last season in soccer, Rudy was also selected to the all-league honorable mention team. Next year, Rudy is headed off to Kansas State University where she will be a member of the Wildcat Rowing team.

Jairus received academic and athletic honors while attending Kapaun Mt. Carmel, including his senior year when he earned all league honors as punter, wide receiver, cornerback, and kick returner as well as all state honors as offensive back. Jairus played basketball and football all 4 years of high school and is looking forward to continuing his football career with the Wildcat family. Jairus’ favorite high school memory is the Andover/Kapaun football game his junior year when he played quarterback and led the Crusaders to a victory.
During his high school years, Jairus spent time volunteering for several different community organizations including the United Way, Kansans for Life, and His Helping Hands.
Clare Channel finished her high school career at Kapaun Mount Carmel with a 4.1 grade point average with honors Clare Channel and AP classes. She was also a member of the St. Gianna Catholic Health Academy.
In athletics, Channel was a four-year letter winner in softball and will continue her softball career next year at the University of Texas at Dallas. Channel plans on pursuing a major in science and a career in medicine.

Reese ran Track all 4 years in high school specializing in the mile and 800 meter races. He was varsity team captain his junior and senior Reese Danitschek seasons. He also ran Cross Country for 3 years, and was the varsity team captain his senior season. Reese was a member of the National Honor Society, and was the founder of a tutoring program for Magdalen Catholic School. During the summer before his senior year, he was a top 10 finalist in the Entrepreneurship Expo U.S. Nationals in Detroit, earning a $2000 grant. Later in the summer, he attended Boys State.

Via Christi Senior Shoutout: Kaeden Hoefer Kaeden Hoefer is a three-sport athlete at Goddard, where he played football, basketball and baseball. He started playing all three sports at a young age.

But it is his love for football that will be the focus for him in college, as he will be attending Butler Community College this fall. Football has been Hoefer’s love since the second grade and he played both offense and defense for the Lions this season, but he excels at wide receiver, where he was first team all-league. He caught 17 balls for 204 yards and three touchdowns. He even had to play quarterback for Goddard. He threw for 878 yards and five touchdowns, while also rushing for 158 yards and a score. Hoefer’s teammates were impressed that he sacrificed his season at receiver in order to play quarterback for the betterment of the team’s success. Hoefer was also a first team all-league outfielder in baseball and played varsity this year for the Lions basketball team.

SCCDAT Senior Shoutout: Katlyn Coker Katlyn Coker is a senior goalkeeper for the Heights girls soccer team, where expectations were high heading into the season, as the Falcons looked to make a significant jump in the City League standings.

Coker has been playing club soccer as a goalkeeper since she four years old. During her freshman year, on the first day of tryouts, Coker tore her ACL and meniscus, which sadly ended her season before it even started. But she worked hard rehabbing and came back her sophomore and junior year, making the varsity team both years.
The Falcons returned seven seniors this season, so optimism was about in the program, where Coker was one of the focal points. For next season, Coker has already signed to play soccer, specifically goalkeeper, as Central Methodist University, which is in Fayetteville, Missouri.

Maize’s Kelsey Taylor Kelsey Taylor is a senior team captain for the Maize swim team and one of the top swimmers in the area. Last season at the 5-1A Tournament, Taylor took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle and eighth in the 500-yard freestyle, while also being a part of the 200-yard medley relay team that took seventh and the 400-yard relay team that took sixth.
Next year, Taylor has signed to swim at St. Mary’s College.
But what Taylor does in the pool is just
a small sample as to what she does in and around Maize High School.
She is also the boys swimming manager, and is a member of B.P.A. the National Honors Society and maintained a 4.0 grade point average. She also is a volunteer at Botanica Gardens.
Taylor was also chosen to the Missouri Valley Swimming academic all-star team and is a year-round swimmer for the Aqua Shocks.

Maize South’s Kyler Dunham Kyler Dunham is a senior at Maize South High School, where she was a standout soccer player for the Mavericks.
She was selected first team all-league as a defender last season. In the three years Dunham has been in the program, the Mavericks have gone 37-11-5 and took third at the 5A Tournament in 2017. Next season, Dunham will be playing soccer at Tabor, but she is also getting an
academic scholarship as well. She had just recently signed her letter of intent shortly before the high school season was cancelled. Many throughout the Maize South program praised Dunham for the kind of player she is on and off the field. She was described as quiet but steady and a levelheaded presence on the field, which they also said is hard to find at the high school level.

She was a good student and enjoyed being an office aide and helping her teachers. Lauren is
an animal lover and has helped her community through the vet tech program at the Valley Center Vet clinic. Lauren also participated in 4H for over 6 years.

Briona Woods - Clearwater Briona Woods of Clearwater High School has some unfinished business on the softball field as soon as things return to normal. Her sophomore season was filled with great plays and big hits. Head coach Tyler Hampton said Woods has all the tools you want in a player. “Briona is a tremendous softball player. She has speed, tracks well, and has a huge arm. Briona is very explosive at the plate, she hits the ball very hard and with great
consistency. Bri’s work ethic is second to none.
She is a great teammate and a great person,” said coach Tyler Hampton. As a sophomore Woods played in 22 games with 78 plate appearances, 67 at bats, 34 hits, 14 singles, nine doubles, four triples, seven homeruns, 32 RBIs, 35 runs scored, nine walks, eight strikeouts, with a .507 batting average and a .577 on-base percentage resulting in a 1.075 slugging

Clearwater’s Madison Simoneau Madison Simoneau was a standout softball player for Clearwater, where she earned all-league honors as a sophomore and a junior and would have most likely been an all-league player and more as a senior this year.
Simoneau was firmly entrenched in the middle of the order for the Indians throughout her career. As a sophomore, she hit .446 with 24 runs batted in and then followed that up last season with a .423 average, five home runs and 29 runs batted in.
Simoneau holds the single-season triples record for Clearwater, with eight and she also holds the record for most career triples with 14.
While Simoneau played first base for the Indians, she has the versatility to play in the outfield as well. She has played the corner outfield positions for her summer team.
Her softball career is not close to being over though, as Simoneau plans to play next year at Hutchinson Community College.

Joma Senior Shoutout: Mallory Feather Mallory Feather is a three-sport athlete at Valley Center, where she played tennis, softball and was a member of the cheer squad for the Hornets.

Feather was a two-time 5A state qualifier in singles and did that while also cheering at football games. She was also an all-league honorable mention outfielder last year. While Feather certainly excelled on the court and on the field, she was also an exceptional student at Valley Center. She was a KU Honor’s Scholar, a member of the National Honors Society, Link Crew and the Student Advisory Leadership Team.
She held a grade point average of 3.97, while taking AP courses and 32 college credit hours. Feather finished in the top 10 percent of her class. Feather will be attending the University of Arkansas in the fall and plans to major in Banking and Finance, with a minor in law then going to law school.

Mallory Parsons started playing tennis just two years ago, after playing volleyball her first years of high school.

She played in one JV tennis meet and was moved up to varsity, playing No. 2 doubles. During her senior year, Mallory was moved up to No. 1 doubles with her partner, Makayla Chabot and they were the first girls doubles team to make the state tournament. They lost their first round match at state, but were able to make it to the second day of the tournament. They wound up placing 11th in the tournament and set many school records, including most wins.

Parsons has lettered in basketball for four years and is a two-year team captain. She earned second team all-league this year and was also named Honorable Mention in the Sports in Kansas AllState Team and by the Butler County Times Gazette. Parsons has also played four years of softball, where she lettered her sophomore and junior year. She earned second team all-league honors as an outfielder last season. While she will not play sports in college, Parsons will focus on her education as she aspires to be a physical therapist. She will attend Kansas State University in the fall and major in Kinesiology.

DRIVE TO ZERO SENIOR SHOUTOUT Noah Spurgeon, Maize South Noah Spurgeon is a senior at Maize South High School, where he is an integral part of the tennis team. Spurgeon is a three-time state medalist for the Mavericks. As a freshman, he took 10th, as a sophomore he took sixth and as a junior he took eighth. Last season Spurgeon helped lead Maize South to their first AVCTL DIV II team title and a 5-1A tournament second place finish. The Mavericks also won regionals in 2018 and 2019. Spurgeon is second on the all-time wins list at Maize South with 81 wins.
If he would have had the opportunity to play this spring, Spurgeon would have been on pace to break the wins record, which is 94 and would have likely reached 100 wins for his career. Not only is Spurgeon involved in sports, but he is also a member of the National Honors Society and is a leader of the Maize South High School C.A.C.O.W. Volunteer Group. Other activities Spurgeon enjoys are fishing, being with friends and watching movies. He will be attending Kansas State University this fall.

Maize’s Savannah Horn Savannah Horn from Maize High School was a standout soccer player for the Eagles. Horn has played soccer since she was three years old and began playing competitively when she was five.
In May of last year, Horn blew out her knee and spent the entire offseason rehabbing the injury in hopes of being
able to play this year.
Not only is Horn a soccer player, but also is into art and freelance photography and is a member of the National Honor’s Society.
Next year, she is headed to the University of Kansas, where she was accepted into the Interior Architecture program.

Goddard’s Jessie Ornelas Jessie Ornelas is one of the top softball players at Goddard High School.
She is a utility player for the Lions and last season hit .333 with a home run, a double and 10 runs batted in. She also stole three bases and had an on-base percentage of .414 Ornelas was selected first team all-league last season for Goddard, which finished the season 16-4 and rain cancelled its
third place game matchup with Maize.
While softball will be a crucial part of her collegiate future, Orneals is also a gifted student, where she carried a 4.0 grade point average at Goddard. Next year, she will be playing softball at Newman University, where she is planning on pursuing a degree in biology with a focus on pre-dentistry.

Mimi Logan is a recent graduate from Classical School of Wichita and she was heavily involved in drama and vocal music. Logan was involved in Christian Youth Theatre and played the lead role of Lina Lamont in the musical Singing in the Rain this past spring. Not only was Logan heavily involved at Classical School,
but she was a fixture in the community as well. She helped a two-year-old boy with Down’s syndrome every Sunday throughout the year.
Because of her love for children, Logan will be attending Taylor University in Indiana next fall and plans to major in social work and minor in Spanish. She has received several academic scholarships.

Now in its third year, Maize South is one of the state’s budding trap-shooting teams. Under first-year coach Chris Morrison, who credits a group of team dads who help coach as well, Maize South has 25 Mavericks out for the team. By the spring, which is the main season for Kansas high school trap shooting, they could have 40 out. Morrison has extensive outdoors background, as he’s an avid hunter and fisherman. The Mavericks use the Ark Valley Gun Club for practice and competition.

El Dorado’s Lexee Hughey Lexee Hughey was a two-sport standout athlete at El Dorado High School, where she played volleyball and softball for the Wildcats.
In volleyball, Hughey was selected allleague honorable mention twice and was also selected as the team captain as a junior and as a senior, as well as program captain as a senior. As a sophomore, Hughey was also a part of the Wildcat team that made it to the 4A Tournament.
On the softball diamond, Hughey was a first team all-league utility player last season for the Wildcats, where she was also the team captain. Athletics is not the only place at El Dorado where Hughey excelled, as she graduated with a 3.92 grade point average.
Next year, Hughey plans to attend Johnson County Community College where she will major in Dental Hygiene.

McCurdy said he was, “looking at HCC for now, but haven’t made any final decision.”

Shelby Fuqua - Winfield Shelby Fuqua was a four-year participant for the Winfield swim team and she was the only diver on the team. Prior to her freshman year, Fuqua had never swum competitively before. She slowly began to improve her time and the hope was to be able to qualify for state this season, which was her goal. With the
improvement shown over her previous three years, going to state seemed within reach.
Next year, Fuqua is planning on attending Cowley County Community College, where she will stay for two years before transferring to Washburn where she wants to obtain her law degree.

Conway Tennis Head coach Chris Bellar was excited for the upcoming tennis season. With a number of experienced players returning to the court, Bellar felt the team was poised for a season to remember.

The year was looking bright with nine seniors total and five returning senior state qualifiers. Parents, coaches and the athletes were devastated at the quick end to their dreams that started on the court together over a decade ago.
