AUGUST 2016
With the release of the 2016 Oklahoma Pigskin Preview, VYPE FANS CHOICE football team from a series of polls on the website look and decide for yourself, which team you’d like to coach…th rick. Let us know your opinions, tweet him y
Kobe Brewster – Plainview: I’m sure I will take some heat for this pick and I won’t fault people who campaign for Lawton MacArthur’s Anthony Love or Lawton Eisenhower’s RJ Fisher. Ultimately though I went with Brewster because of his proven leadership qualities and his athleticism as a dualthreat quarterback. Trenton Bell – Duncan: I love big, physical, bruising backs that will punish would-be tacklers and that’s what Bell is. He’s a bowling ball of power and speed who every coach would love to have on their team.
JJ Brown – Clinton: At 6-3 Brown is a nice big target on the outside. He’s got good athleticism and should put up some big numbers this season as the No. 1 receiver in Clinton’s offense. Britton Beasley – Cordell: Beasley is an absolute monster on the offensive line and is getting some serious college offers already. If he keeps it up he will be a household name by the end of the season.
Austin Taylor
Keith Thierry – Lawton: “The Sackmaster” that’s what Thierry’s nickname should be. Go to a Lawton game and almost every time you look up you will find Thierry in the opponent’s backfield.
Hassan Foye – Atus: Foye had over 100 tackles in 2015 and this year he should at least equal that production. Altus runs a very aggressive style of defense and to do that you need athletic linebackers. That’s exactly what Foye is. He can drop back in coverage or get after you and rush the passer.
Ryan Terry – Weatherford: Terry is a superb athlete who is going to start at quarterback for the Eagles but that athleticism also makes him an amazing defensive back. Throw on Terry at your own risk because he thinks every ball in the air is his.
Britton Beasley

Take a he Fans’ Choice or the lineup chosen by SWOK editor Kyle Kendyour thoughts @KyleKendrick1 or @VYPEOK RJ Fisher – Lawton Eisenhower: A really great choice by you fans here. Fisher is a spectacular athlete under center and a threat in both the run game and the passing attack. Had great numbers last year and could be even better in 2016. Cole Cizek – Elgin: Honestly I like Cizek as a defensive back but you fans like him as a running back. He has the speed and vision it takes to be a great running back so I can’t really fault you too much for going with Cizek here.
Colton Smalling
Austin Taylor – Lindsay: Here is a pick that both the fans and I agree on. If I’m drafting receivers from the Southwest Region Taylor would be tops on my list. He can catch anything really. Throw it up, Taylor is likely to come down with it. Colton Smalling – Weatherford: Never hurts to have a tough kid from Weatherford on your offensive line. The Eagles should be able to move the ball pretty well this season and a big part of that will be Smalling’s effort up front.
Joseph Roque – Clinton: The only Clinton player to make the Fans’ Choice team. Roque is the type of hardworking bluecollar player you want on the defensive line.
Ryan Good – Lone Grove: Good is one of two linebackers that Lone Grove will build its defense around this year. Marshall Zabonik, also on the Fans’ Choice team is the other. He can play the physical style you need in the middle of

the field but he also has the athleticism to drop back and cover the pass if need be. Look for Good to be great in 2016. Jelvis Hoskins – Lawton MacArthur: If Lawton Mac has become known for one thing it is having playmakers on the defensive side of the ball. Hoskins fits that mold perfectly and should make plenty of big plays that get the crowd on its feet this season. AUGUST 2016

THE SCOOP: A back who just racks up the yards whenever he touches the ball, Bell is the type of player everyone would love to have on their team. Bell has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the past two years and he has averaged at least 6.0 yards per carry in each those seasons.
THE SCOOP: Lawton Mac has churned out some great players in the past and Teddrick Thomas is ready to assume his place among them. After running for 537 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore, Thomas exploded last year and ran for over 1700 yards as junior. It wouldn’t be tough to imagine Thomas cracking 2,000 yards this season.
THE SCOOP: Love was poised to burst onto the scene last season but his season ended after just five quarters due to a torn ACL. But that was a minor setback for a major comeback. An accurate passer with good football smarts, Love can become a household name with his play on the field. Love should put up massive numbers this year as he guides the Highlanders on yet another quest for a gold ball.
THE SCOOP: Lott has the measurable but more than that he has the production. In his junior season Lott increased his number of tackles by over 30 percent from his sophomore year. If that happens again this year look for Lott to be around 100 tackles by the end of this season and for Ardmore to have a lot of wins.

THE SCOOP: We’ve all heard it 1,000 times but Kaieem Caesar is that guy who has a motor that’s running nonstop. He will have a major impact on both sides of the ball this year. On offense he is a big target in the passing game while on defense he is a nightmare for opposing linemen coming off the edge.
THE SCOOP: Now a two-time Top 100 selection, Curry is a player that is just electric. He broke the 1,000 yards mark last year all while operating in a two-back system. If Curry’s carries go up significantly this year and he becomes the only feature back for the Wolverines then he could easily reach the elusive 2,000-yard mark this fall.
THE SCOOP: Brewster is the type of guy you want leading your program. Cool, calm, level-headed and dangerously athletic. Brewster can just as easily hit the open man down the field as he can tuck it and run. Last year he ran for over 1500 yards and threw for over 1500 as well. Don’t sleep on this dual-threat QB.
THE SCOOP: Coming into his own in 2015, Hunter Anthony looks to solidify himself as one of the top linemen from the class of 2018. Anthony starts at tackle for the Tigers, but can play in the interior of the defensive line giving the staff a game changer on both sides of the ball. The interest is already high as Anthony picked up an offer from Iowa State and more are expected to follow. We will be talking about this player and his recruiting journey in months to come.

The Highlanders began playing football in 1969 and have only known three head coaches. Ron Hartline coached from ‘69 to ‘93 and was succeeded by Ernie Manning who handed the reins over to his son and current head coach Brett Manning in 2009. OFFENSE The only team to beat the eventual Class 5A state champion Altus Bulldogs last season was the Highlanders. In the end though their can be only one and the MacArthur season came to a close when the Highlanders fell to Collinsville in the second round of the playoffs. This year the Highlanders are once again a heavy favorite in Class 5A and a big part of that is due to their 1-2 punch of quarterback Anthony Love (6-4, 210, Sr.) and running back Teddy Thomas (5-8, 170, Sr.) both of whom were VYPE Top 100 selections. Last season Love tore his ACL early on and missed essentially the entire season. Thomas though ran for 1,800 yards and is back for more this year. At receiver Ronnie Kimble (5-10, 180, Sr.) returns as a two-year starter. Trey Longacre (5-8, 160, Jr.) and Rylan Webb (6-1, 200, Jr.) should also provide some big play capability at the position this year. Robert Rose (6-1, 305, Sr.) is a mountain of a man at offensive guard and is a twoyear starter on the offensive line. “We feel like we have a lot of experience coming back and are looking forward to being an improved team in 2016,” head coach Brett Manning said. DEFENSE The Highlanders will be a very aggressive defensive unit this season led by a group of six returning starters. On the line Sir-Ryan Royal (6-1, 235, Sr.) will play at one of the end positions while Brandon Lawton (6-0, 225, Jr.) will line up at defensive tackle. Both Royal and Lawton are two-year starters for the Highlanders. Josh Dixon (5-10, 180, Sr.) is another two-year starter at outside linebacker and the same can be said for Savion Carter (5-11, 190, Sr.) at inside

Teddy Thomas linebacker. In the secondary Rylan Webb will be a two-year starter at strong safety with Kimble starting at corner for the second year in a row. In a district containing option rushing attacks at Altus and Ardmore along with Spread offenses at Del City and Duncan the Highlanders will truly have to defend teams at both ends of the spectrum and with experience like the Highlanders bring to the table that task becomes just a little bit easier. DEFENSE
Zack Hanna OFFENSE
The Wolverines bring back nine offensive starters from an 8-2 team a year ago and will once again be a team many experts pick as the team to beat in Class 6A-II. Lawton will have great team speed this season as well, evidenced by the fact that its track team which was made up of all football players won seven track meets in the spring. VYPE Top 100 running back Tre Curry (5-11, 205, Sr.) will be the Wolverines’ bell cow in 2016. As a junior Curry ran for 1,129 yards on 156 carries and could easily crack 1,500 yards this year. Nathan Kirk (5-7, 183, Sr.) is also likely to get some carries at running back and will provide a great 1-2 punch for the Lawton backfield.
You can’t dispute that Lawton will want to run the football but if team’s stack the box you can be assured that quarterback Zack Hanna (5-11, 170, Sr.) has the skills to burn teams with his arm. A year ago Hanna completed 51 percent of his passes and had nine passing touchdowns. When Hanna does put the ball in the air it would be a OFFENSE If you look at Eisenhower’s 1-9 record from a year ago it may seem hard to be optimistic about this team. That all changes though when you realize last year they were competing as one of the smallest schools in Class 6A-II and this year they drop to 5A and will be one of the biggest schools in that class. Factor in that plus eight returning offensive starters and things are starting to look awful sunny. At quarterback the Eagles will roll with RJ Fisher (6-1, 200, Jr.) who is a fantastic athlete and a bonafide dual-threat. Last season he ran for 669 yards and had 1,401 yards passing and could easily improve those totals this year. In Ike’s Spread offense receivers Mookie Douglas (5-10, 190, Sr.), Kinyon Parker (6-2, 180, Jr.) and Jonell Pagan (6-2, 180, Sr.) should all be targeted quite a bit. Douglas may end up being the biggest threat in the pass game this year. He suffered a serious injury last year and missed the entire 2015 season but is back and ready to prove he’s a man to be feared this year. Running back Kenneth Graham (5-10, 190, Jr.) will give the Eagles good balance this year after picking up 500 yards of total offense a year ago. Not quite a redheaded stranger, Willie Nelson (6-1, 282, Sr.) is a name to get to know on the offensive line. With road trips to McGuinness, Del City and Guthrie the Eagles will put in some serious windshield time, just like a bunch of highwaymen.
On defense Lawton has seven starters returning this year and should be strong all over the field.
At defensive end Keith Thierry (5-9, 192, Sr.) is one of the state’s most feared pass rushers. Don’t let his size fool you, Thierry is strong. He squats 565 pounds and last season he recorded 15 sacks. At linebacker Levi Cain (5-11, 220, Sr.) may be the best player you have never heard of. Cain is a player who just does his job and does it well. He has over 200 tackles in his career and averaged 12 stops per game in 2015. Marcus Spencer (6-0, 232, So.) is another tackling machine Lawton will feature at linebacker. Finally look for Kirk to also start at linebacker this year giving the Wolverines some explosive athleticism at the position.
In the secondary look for Jayquan Lincoln (6-0, 180, Jr.) to get the nod at free safety after making 108 tackles as a sophomore. Dia Vonta Michael (5-10, 160, Sr.) will play opposite Lincoln at the strong safety position. With 68 tackles and one interception return for a touchdown and one punt return for a touchdown, Michael is a threat to score whenever he gets his hands on the ball
DEFENSE Defensively the Eagles return six starters and should be an experienced group. On the defensive line Nelson will be on the road again and after an excellent offseason he could easily reach a new high. Armon Martin (5-9, 200, Jr.) recorded 98 tackles and 10 tackles for loss and will lead a swarming group of linebackers this year. Akheawin Hill (510, 170, Jr.) and Anthony Nottingham (5-10, 180, Sr.) will join Martin at that position after posting 74 and 44 tackles respectively last year. On the back end Fisher and Douglas plan to make their presence known by utilizing their superior athleticism and ball skills. “With 14 returning starters in addition to being reclassified to 5A we are looking forward to a successful season,” Eisenhower head coach Mike Burris said.

Quick Hits: The Owls output of 14 points per games was the second lowest to Stilwell among Class 4A teams in 2015.
The Elgin-Cache rivalry has been played continuously since 1992. Cache won last year’s contest 44-21, but Elgin has won 13 of those 24 meetings. Elgin opens the season at Plainview on September 2nd. The Indians jump back on the schedule after a two-year absence. Plainview has won the last two in the series and three of the last four. Last 5 Years: 2015 - 3-7, 2014 - 2-8, 2013 - 5-6, 2012 - 2-8, 2011 – 4-6
ELGIN OWLS OFFENSE Elgin will once again be operating out of multiple I-Formations this season on offense with the focus on a power run game. That type of style will always need to orbit around a powerful offensive line and they don’t make them much more powerful than Michael Davis (6-0, 282, Sr.) who will start at tackle for the owls. Tight end Greydon Buhlig (6-3, 235, Sr.) will also be a major run blocker this season. Out of the backfield Pepper Ferrell (5-10, 202, Jr.) will give the Elgin offense some spice. Last season Ferrell had 23 carries for 112 yards and two touchdowns and should get more touches and therefore increase his production this year. Tailback Cole Cizek (510, 174, Sr.) will bring good speed and athleticism to the Elgin rushing attack. Quarterback Noah Taiese (6-0, 190, Sr.) will also likely get some designed runs this year but don’t sleep on his arm. Matt Phillips (6-2, 184, Sr.) will provide a nice target on the outside for Taiese when he does drop back to throw. As a junior Phillips had 29 catches for 321 yards.
a bulldog and is a leader who inspires his teammates through his resolve to win. Last year he had 32 tackles and two sacks but those numbers will need to go up if Elgin hopes to contend for a playoff spot. Fans can also expect to see Alton Johnson (5-10, 246, Jr.) on the defensive line this year. At linebacker Quinn Matthey (6-1, 194, Sr.) is a model of production. As a sophomore he recorded 106 tackles, had one sack and picked off a pass. Outside linebacker Isaac Garrett (6-3, 193, Jr.) is also back after a sophomore campaign that included 64 tackles, four sacks and one interception. In the secondary Cizek is a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks. He broke up 16 passes in 2015, had 121 tackles and five interceptions. Nesean Eady (6-0, 154, Jr.) will also be a crucial piece of the puzzle lining up at safety.
DEFENSE With seven starters coming back to the Elgin defense the Owls figure to keep offensive coordinators living a nocturnal lifestyle. A fast physical group the Owls will feature solid play all over the field. At nose tackle Charles Churchill (5-10, 221, Jr.) plays like

OFFENSE In Cyril’s I-Formation offense Josh Garza (5-10, 170, Jr.) will be the starting quarterback after racking up 19 total touchdowns and throwing for 800 yards and rushing for 515 along the way. At running back Cyril will turn to Albert Suarez (5-8, 150, So.) who ran for 711 yards, had 160 yards receiving and 11 total touchdowns. Jake Toahty (5-10, 170, Jr.) should be a big target in the passing game this season after recording 549 receiving yards and six touchdowns a year ago. The team’s other go-to-guy at receiver will be Cason McLemore (5-11, 165, So.). On the offensive line Dawson Lowery (5-11, 180, Sr.) will start at guard while Kayden Camp (6-2, 290, So.) will line up at center.
DEFENSE On defense fans of the Pirates will hear one name over and over this year. That name is Koval Willhoite (6-1, 200, Sr.) a defensive end and linebacker who had 133 tackles and four sacks last year. Lowery will also alternate between defensive end and linebacker this year after picking up 59 tackles and two sacks last season. Titan Abeyta (5-10, 180, Jr.) chipped in 30 tackles in 2015 and will also see time at linebacker this year. In the secondary Suarez will start at cornerback where he had 65 tackles and one interception as a freshman. OFFENSE With six starters coming back to the Tigers’ offense they won’t be a team defenses are able to take lightly. On the offensive line Keegan White (5-8, 230, Sr.) and Justin DeLao (5-11, 190, Sr.) will give the Tigers a good one-two punch at center and guard. Austin White (5-9, 160, Fr.) will be taking the snaps this year for the Tigers with Braydon Nichols (5-9, 140, Fr.) and Gavin Fischer (5-9, 215, Fr.) both getting carries as the team’s top backs. On the outside look for Brycen Fischer (5-7, 130, So.) to be the Tigers’ top receiver this year.
DEFENSE In the Tigers’ 3-2 front expect Keegan White to give quarterbacks nightmares as a dominant edge rusher. At linebacker Austin White and Gavin Fischer will give the Tigers great speed in the middle of the field. Finally, in the secondary look for Skyler Ahlsten (5-10, 140, So.) and Brycen Fischer to start at cornerback. Tito Jones OFFENSE Last year Altus came in believing they could win a Class 5A state title. Not many other people outside of Altus believed it, but the Bulldogs did and that’s all that mattered when they hoisted the gold ball in December. This year Todd Vargas takes over as the
head coach for the Bulldogs after serving as the defensive coordinator last season. Outside of Vargas taking over as head coach, all of last season’s staff remains in tact with just some roles shuffled here and there. With that continuity Altus plans to stay in the Flexbone offense that paid off so well for them a year ago.

Altus only other title came in 1971 capped off by a 7-6 win over Okmulgee. Jeremy Reed compiled a record of 21-4 in his two seasons at Altus. Reed left the Bulldogs to become the head coach at Lake Hamilton High School in Arkansas.

AUGUST 2016
At quarterback Jake Vargas (6-0, 180, Jr.) will be the triggerman in Altus’ option attack. Last season Vargas was the backup quarterback but still ran for 536 yards on 48 carries and had four touchdowns. Look for Tito Jones (5-11, 165, Sr.) and Shaquan French (5-9, 175, Sr.) to play in the slot positions and get plenty of carries but also be a threat in the passing game when Vargas puts the ball in the air. Last year Jones had 513 rushing yards and six touchdowns with six catches for 130 yards. French ch ipped in 304 yards on the ground and also had 202 yards receiving with four touchdowns. Austin Baldwin (5-10, 215, Sr.) will start at tight end and could also see some passes thrown his way but more important will be his job as a run blocker. Two other key run blockers this year will be center Kameron Conchola (5-10, 195, Sr.) and tackle Keegan Shive (6-2, 225, Jr.).
DEFENSE Defensively the Bulldogs will try to continue to be an aggressive unit who will win the turnover battle each
and every time out. On the defensive line Kade Wilson (6-3, 300, Jr.) will be the man in the middle at nose guard. Sean Torres (6-1, 185, Sr.) and Terrell Ridenour (6-0, 220, Sr.) meanwhile will come off the edge from the defensive end spots. Last season Wilson had 34 tackles to his credit while Torres had 55 tackles, seven sacks and a whopping 16 tackles for loss. Ridenour added 16 tackles and four tackles for loss. At linebacker look for Hassan Foye (6-2, 185, Sr.) to make plenty of plays from his outside linebacker spot. As a junior Foye had 116 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and two interceptions. Marcus Molina (5-9, 185, Sr.) is also back at linebacker this year after recording 64 tackles and three tackles for loss in 2015. In the secondary Tyler Garcia (5-10, 185, Sr.) will start at safety and be the team’s leader on the back end. A year ago Garcia had 43 tackles, two interceptions and eight passes broken up. Overall coach Vargas said he and his team are looking forward to defending their title. “We are so excited to compete for the community of Altus! We return a very strong nucleus of players off last year’s state championship team. We want to embrace the process and win each day. We have one goal and that is to make the community of Altus proud by living above the line everyday.”

OFFENSE Six starters return to the Hinton offense this year and will once again be operating out of the Double Wing in 2016. Cache Garrett (5-9, 160, Jr.) is the triggerman in Hinton’s option-run game stating at quarterback. Wing backs Denver Dahlenburg (5-11, 170, So.) and Cade Miller (5-11, 170, Sr.) will be the two most likely pitch men this season when the defense focuses on stopping Garrett. When Garrett drops back to pass split end Hesston Lierle (5-8, 150, Sr.) is likely to be his first option almost every time. Hinton will also have a good sized offensive line to run behind this year. dynamic duo of Ty Weathers (6-2, 230, Jr.) and Brady Deal (6-1, 260, Sr.) who will start at the tackle positions. DEFENSE On defense the Comets will run a 4-2-5 scheme and should be strong in the middle of the field. Josh Blanco (5-8, 175, Sr.) is the leader of the Comets’ hungry pack of linebackers. Garrett and Dahlenburg should also get time at linebacker this year and should both bring a great deal of athleticism to the position. OFFENSE Spark plug Chason Hurt (5-9, 165, Sr.) returns to the Wildcat offense and will bring the energy needed to compete. The Wildcats lost eight seniors to graduation last year, but there are plenty of young players ready to step up and compete. Christian O’keeffe (5-9, 180, Sr.) ran for 350 yards and four touchdowns last year, and will be expected expand his role on offense. Ezra Owens (6-3, 160, Jr.) brings height to the outside and gives quarterback Grant Keisau (6-0, 155, Sr.) a tall target to throw to. Jaeden Hernasy (6-2, 170, Sr.) brings another set of hands to the offense, and gives Keisau another
OFFENSE The Blue Devils were a team that went 8-3 last year and made it to the Class 2A playoffs before being knocked off by Kingston after drawing one of the toughest first round matchups in the state. This year Walters will be replacing some key players but head coach Faron Grifin is cautiously optimistic. “We graduated some pretty good players. We are breaking in a new sophomore quarterback and might take some lumps early because of experience but talent wise I think we are as good as we were last year,” Griffin said. “Our junior high went undefeated last year and that group has a lot of speed.” If Walters plans to be able to use their speed they will first need power. Power that will come from a big offensive line. Tyler Robey (6-3, 250, Sr.) is being recruited by several DII universities and junior colleges and will lead that group in the trenches. Hunter Robey (6-1, 250, Sr.) and Lawson Brown (5-10, 235, Jr.) will lend their help at the

target to throw to. Brad Bunner (5-10, 185, Sr.) will anchor the offensive line.
DEFENSE Six starters return to the Wildcat defense. O’keeffe is one of the primary leaders on defense; after he recorded 91 tackles last season. O’keeffe is a talented linebacker. Hurt, Owens and Keisau all can play both corner back and safety. These three make up a talented secondary. Hurt finished 2015 with 63 tackles and three picks. Tristen Hainta (5-10, 170, So.) and Rhodey Mabry (5-9, 170, Jr.) join O’keeffe at linebacker. Schedule Aug. 26 – at Destiny Christian Sept. 2 – at Mt. guard spots while Anthony Hornbeak (6-1, 220, Jr.) will be another key player up front at tackle. When it comes to skill players look for senior Kyle Graham to electrify crowds at the tailback spot. In his career Graham has gained over 3,000 yards and could become one of the most prolific rushers in Walters history this year. Receivers CJ Sims and Nick Gamberdella should also both make plenty of plays this season as well.
DEFENSE On defense look for junior Ty Davis and sophomore Devin Holley to get time in the secondary alongside Sims and Gamberdella. Graham will get time at linebacker and be expected to be one of Walters’ top tacklers. Sophomore Braden Moiser will also be a player asked to produce in a big way this season. Finally, on the defensive line look for senior Jay Bridgers to be the catalyst at defensive end.

Southwest OK Football Preview MERRITT OILERS
COACH: BARRET RICHARDSON ENR: 167 Last 5 Years: 2011 - 3-7 2012 - 6-5 2013 - 8-3 2014 - 6-4 2015 - 3-7
OFFENSE The Oilers are jumping to the 11-man ranks this season which is always a scary move for a program coming up from eightman football. The Oilers have some things going for them though, namely experience. With seven returning offensive starters Merritt has a good amount of the puzzle figured out for their Wing-T offense. Tanner Mong (5-10, 160, Sr.) is a standout basketball player who will be bringing the athleticism and intense work ethic that makes him so successful on the hardwood to the quarterback spot. At running back look for Brett Custer (5-8, 150, Sr.) Jace Silk (58, 155, Jr.) and Aydin Chatfield (5-8, 165, So.) to all get carries this year. Fullback Dalen Smith (6-1, 190, So.) brings a bit more downhill, physical style to the backfield. On the offensive line Luak Tut (6-7, 285, Sr.) is another player
who shines on the basketball floor and will dominate play on the gridiron as well. DEFENSE On the defensive side of the ball many of the same guys who will be asked to lead the offense will also need to led the defense. At linebacker Smith and Silk will both be in that situation. Aydin Chatfield (5-8, 165, So.) will also see some time at linebacker as well this season. In the secondary fans will find Mong lining up at free safety with Custer also seeing time somewhere in the back end. At defensive tackle Tut may end up being the biggest difference maker of all. He was an alldistrict offensive lineman a year ago but could easily wind up making it as a defensive lineman this year. 8-26 vs. Beaver 9-9 at Hooker 9-16 at Mooreland 9-23 vs. Watonga 9-30 vs. Mangum 10-7 at Hinton 10-13 at Hollis 10-21 vs. Sayre 10-28 vs. Rush Springs 11-4 at Cordell

OFFENSE The Eagles bring back seven offensive starters this season and hope to be flying high in 2016. “We are very excited about the direction of the program. The boys have worked extremely hard this offseason and are very hungry to be a playoff caliber team,” Sayre head coach Trevor Powers said. On the offensive line Jacob Mooney (5-10, 210, Sr.) was an all-district player in 2015 at center and is a returning captain for the Eagles. Billy York (6-0, 185, Sr.) will start at guard this year after grading out at 95 percent a year ago. Cody Bryant (5-10, 225, Sr.) was an honorable mention all-district player as a junior and will start at tackle. Quarterback Tyler May (5-10, 160, Sr.) can hurt teams with his arm and legs depending on what defenses give him. Last year May had 383 yards passing and six total touchdowns. In
the backfield look for fullback Ricky Ramirez (5-8, 174, So.) and running back Gus Gifford (5-8, 145, Jr.) to both get plenty of carries. DEFENSE On defense Sayre will be running a 4-4 scheme this season with Gifford playing middle linebacker after making 60 tackles and recording eight tackles for loss in 2015. York will play outside linebacker this year along with Zac Carnahan (6-2, 174, Jr.). York was an all-district linebacker last year and made 68 tackles and 10 tackles for loss. On the defensive line Jacob Brewer (5-9, 165, Sr.) may be small for a defensive tackle but he is powerful. Brewer was the Region I powerlifting champ at 168 pounds a year ago. At defensive end Christian White (5-9, 165, Sr.) and Clayton Kilgore (5-10, 189, Jr.) will both be players to watch. Quick Hits: The Big Elks will open the season against the Pampa, Texas Harvesters for the third straight year. Elk City won last year 22-20. Pampa is coming off an 8-4 finish that landed them in the second round of the 4ADivision-I UIL playoffs.
Elk City has owned Woodward. The Big Elks hammered the Boomers 54-7 in 2015 and host them in week two of 2016. Elk City has won 14 of the last 16 games between the teams. The Big Elks will be thirsty for a playoff win. Elk City hasn’t tasted victory in the playoffs since a 7-6 road win at Mannford in 2006.
Last 5 Years: 2014 - 5-5, 2013 - 1-9, 2012 - 2-7, 2011 – 6-4, 2010 – 8-3
ELK CITY ELKS OFFENSE The Elks just missed the playoffs in 2015. Heading into this season, new coach Todd Wilson is hoping to lead them back to the Class 4A playoffs. Five starters will return to the 2016 version of the Elks. Gage Porter (511, 185) is back at quarterback for Elk City after having a tremendous season last year. Porter ran for 1,418 yards and 14 touchdowns, while also throwing for 1,038 yards and 11 touchdowns. Porter is a dynamic dual-threat playmaker who does it all for the Elk offense. Elk City has a talented group of wide receivers who are all capable of making big plays. Noah Kerr (6-2, 170) is the most experienced of the group, catching 11 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns last year. Shylar Thornton (6-2, 170) adds more height to wide receiver core. Thornton has big frame and solid hands. Kayd Denny (5-9, 160) is a speedy receiver who can make anybody miss. Up front on the offensive line, the Elks face their biggest challenge: replacing four linemen. Sam Firth (6-3, 230) is the only returning starter on the line. DEFENSE Four starters return to the Elks’ 4-3 defense, and three of those guys are impact players on offense as well. Kerr, Thornton and Denny make up the majority of the Elk secondary, making it Elk City’s strongest unit. Kerr recorded 30 tackles, seven pass
Gage Porter break ups and an interception last season. Thornton finished 2015 14 tackles, and he broke up four passes. Denny recorded 27 tackles, two pass break ups and intercepted two passes. These three guys will set the tone for the defense. Gabe Webb (6-1, 190, Jr.) will play defensive end this season. Webb is a physical player with tremendous aggressiveness. The skill players on the Elk City defense are talented, but the front seven will need some time to grow. The linebacker corps is young and will need to develop quickly if the Elks want to continue to be competitive in a loaded Class 4A.

WEATHERFORD EAGLES
Coach: WOODY ROOF Enrollment: 415
OFFENSE After finishing 8-4 in head coach Woody Roof’s first season back on the sideline of the Eagles, Weatherford has big plans for the 2016 season. Offensively Weatherford will feature a balanced attack led by quarterback Ryan Terry (6-2, 190, Sr.). Last season Terry threw for 1,186 yards and 17 touchdowns but also ran for another 11 touchdowns proving he can beat defenses with both his arm and his legs. In the passing game tight end James Mark (6-4, 200, Sr.) and wide receiver Ian Hill (6-4, 180, Jr.) are two big targets Terry will look to frequently. Last season Mark had 24 catches for 273 yards and four touchdowns. On the offensive line Colton Smalling (6-1, 245, Sr.), Tacoma Copeland (6-5, 230, Sr.) and Lorenzo Garcia (6-4, 290, Sr.) are all names to know. “We have lots of holes to fill but the underclassmen worked hard improving in the offseason. Quick Hits: The venerable Woody Roof is in his 4th different head coaching stint at Weatherford. All told, Roof now has a record of 130-43 including state championships in 1991 and 1992. Quarterback Ryan Terry was a terror to opposing defenses in 2015. Terry had an incredible second half in the first round playoff win at Tuttle. Terry threw for two touchdowns, a two-point conversion and ran another one in to complete the road win for the Eagles.
Taunton (6-5, 190, Sr.) will likely line up at the other end position opposite of Mark and give the Eagles two explosive pass rushers. Last season Taunton had 49 total tackles Copeland and Garcia will be the interior presence on the line this year, the thunder to Mark’s and Taunton’s lightning if you will. A year ago Copeland had 34 tackles and with the talented group around him he should have a serious chance to improve those numbers this year.
Woodward will remain on the non-district schedule this season. It’s the 13th consecutive meeting between the western Oklahoma schools. Weatherford won last year’s contest 38-7 and eight of the last 12 games.
At linebacker Hagan Ard (6-4, 220, Jr.) is the younger brother of former Weatherford star Spencer Ard and should make plenty of big plays of his own this year. Rounding out Weatherford’s list of key defensive players in Terry, who will start at strong safety. As a junior Terry had 66 tackles and two picks, numbers he plans to improve on this season.

Quick Hits: The Red Tornadoes found a way to not only make it into the playoffs but win a game again in 2015. The Reds rallied from a 1-4 start to hammer Ada 41-10 at Norris Field before falling to the eventual champs Wagoner in the second round.
With that victory, Clinton has now won a playoff game in 13 consecutive seasons and an amazing 24 out of the last 25 years. Clinton will open the season at Altus on August 26th against the defending Class 5A champions. It’s the first game between the schools since 2005 when Clinton took a 24-0 victory at the Rock in Altus. Last 5 Years: 2015 - 6-6 2014 - 6-6 2013 - 8-4 2012 - 12-2 2011 – 12-2
CLINTON RED TORNADOES OFFENSE A year ago Clinton finished the year 6-6, including a 41-10 playoff win over Ada in the first round of the Class 4A postseason. This year Clinton will rely on a heavy dose of the run game featuring tailbacks Greyson Weeden (5-7, 170, Jr.), Deonte Barker (5-9, 170, Sr.) and Chris Brooks (5-9, 170, Sr.). Fullback Dawson Ballard (6-0, 205, Sr.) will add a nice punch to the run game as well. Opening up holes for Clinton’s talented backfield will be an offensive line led by four returners. Rowdy Hartness (6-1, 260, Jr.), Jake Archer (6-0, 260, Jr.), Bo Felch (5-10, 215, Sr.) and Zac Acosta (5-10, 220, Sr.) are the four horsemen of the Clinton line and will bring pain and agony to any team that challenges them. At quarterback Clinton will depend on Conor Wyer (6-0, 190, Jr.) to lead the passing game and act as a field general. DEFENSE Defensively Clinton will operate out of a 4-3 base giving the Red Tornadoes an identity of an aggressive and fast defense. On the defensive line Joseph Roque

(6-0, 250, Sr.) returns to a massive wall of run-stoppers. Acosta will also start at defensive tackle and bring a serious mean streak with him. At linebacker look for Weeden to team with Dan Lopez (6-0, 175, Sr.) to both make plenty of plays at the line of scrimmage but also defending the pass. The Clinton secondary meanwhile will be anchored by the Killer B’s; Barker and Brooks. In a district with potent offenses like Heritage Hall, Cache, Weatherford and Elk City the Clinton defense will need to be on the top of its game if they hope to contend for a playoff spot and potentially make a deep playoff run.

CHICKASHA FIGHTIN’ CHICKS
Coach: JERRY DON BRAY Enrollment: 679
OFFENSE Chickasha drops into the Class 4A ranks this year and will be bringing it’s Flexbone offense with them. It will be Chickasha’s second year in that offense and that should mean more consistent play according to head coach Jerry Don Bray. At quarterback Jake Womack (6-0, 205, Sr.) will get the start after carrying the ball 56 times for 261 yards and throwing for 241 more in three games last season. Along with Womack the chief ballcarriers in Chickasha’s offense will be fullback Clayton Mosley (6-1, 220, Sr.) and running backs Larry Abram (5-9, 165, Jr.) and David Thibodeaux (5-9, 180, Jr.). Last year Mosley had 284 yards rushing on 39 carries with Thibodeaux picking up 310 yards on 48 carries and Abram chipping in 193 yards on 28 carries. Ty Thompson (6-0, 250, Sr.) will be the Fightin’ Chicks starting center this year while James McElreath (6-0, 275, Sr.) will be another key piece of the offensive line at right guard. DEFENSE On defense Chickasha will be working out of a 4-2-5 scheme. Mosley and Womack will again be key players on defense, starting at linebacker. Last season Mosley had 88 tackles, six tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. Womack had 42 tackles, two forced fumbles and one sack in 2015 and should see a big increase in those numbers
Schedule: Sept. 2 – at Anadarko Sept. 9 – vs. Noble Sept. 16 – vs. El Reno Sept. 23 – at Cache Sept. 30 – vs. Newcastle Oct. 6 – at Heritage Hall Oct. 14 – vs. Elk City Oct. 20 – vs. Elgin Oct. 28 – at Clinton Nov. 4 – at Weatherford
Quick Hits: The schedule will look vastly different for the Fightin’ Chicks this season with the drop down to Class 4A. Only four of the 10 teams return from a year ago. The Highway 81 rivalry with El Reno will remain a part of the non-district portion of the schedule. Chickasha has not won a playoff game since 2002 when it defeated McAlester 42-14. Guthrie eliminated the Fightin’ Chicks 23-20 the following week in the Class 5A semifinals.
Jake Womack this year. Defensive end Kobe Powell (5-11, 225, Jr.) is another player with a lot of athleticism that will be a key player on the Chickasha defense. Last season Powell had 29 stops and three sacks to his credit. Thompson will also be playing on the defensive line this year to go along with his duties on the offensive line. In the secondary Abram will be a starting cornerback for the Fightin’ Chicks and Thibodeaux will start at safety. Photo Courtesy of Jim Tibbetts
Linebacker Clayton Mosely should be one of the better defenders in the district. Mosely flew all over the field in the season opener against Anadarko, recording 12 tackles against the Warriors. Last 5 Years: 2015 - 2-8 , 2014 - 3-7, 2013 - 5-6, 2012 – 4-6, 2011 – 5-5

Ben Cox - Chickasha High School
FFA is something that has been a part of the Cox family in Chickasha for awhile
now. Ben Cox has been involved in FFA for three years and prior to that his brother was involved in the organization. According to Ben it was actually his brother’s involvement with FFA that got him interested. “My brother was in FFA for a year and he said it was amazing; so I wanted to try it for myself. And here I am three years later still in it,” Cox said. Through FFA Cox shows pigs and has been doing
that since last summer. Overall, Cox said that FFA has helped him to be more social and to allow him to push his boundaries. “FFA has really helped me to open up more to people, experience new things and has allowed me a chance to get out of my comfort zone,” Cox said. Outside of FFA, Cox is also involved in Boy Scouts. For his dedication to bettering himself and his effort in FFA, Ben Cox is the Chickasha FFA student of the Month.

USAO SOCCER PLAYERS LEARN, PLAY IN COSTA RICA TRIP The USAO trio joined a team of all-conference honorees and statistical leaders from colleges across the country to take on Costa Rica’s top club teams, including junior national players.
In addition to the competition component of the trip, athletes also provided sports clinics for Costa Rican youth. One clinic was hosted at a local school in San Jose, and another in partnership with Special Olympics of Costa Rica. “We were beyond blessed to have been given the opportunity to play abroad. None of us would have gotten there without the help of Coach (Jimmy) Hampton,” Cleveland said. “It was an amazing trip, and I will never forget the memories and friendships I made there.” By Justin Tinder, USAO Sports Information Director Three members of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma women’s soccer team recently enjoyed the chance to study abroad while participating in an eight-day playing tour of Costa Rica.
Piedmont’s Bianca Cardenas, Mustang’s Brandi Hutchison, and Moore’s Jordan Cleveland traveled to the Central America country earlier this summer for Beyond Sports’ Fourth Annual Costa Rica Women’s Soccer Tour.
Hampton who has had a number of players play and study abroad over the years was pleased that the latest group experienced so many new things.
“Any time you get to experience the culture of football overseas it brings a new perspective on how to approach the game and the prep and process involved,” Hampton said. “I’m excited that our Bianca, Brandi and Jordan got that once-in-alifetime opportunity.”
The group visited Manuel Antonio National Park and Arenal Volcano during the tour. They also had opportunities to zip-line through the rainforest, learn to surf, and encounter wildlife such as monkeys, sloths, toucans and iguanas.
Hutchison said one of the big impressions she gained was how much impact that the tour group made the participants of the youth camps.
“Even though I don’t speak Spanish, it was really enjoyable to see the young kids having so much fun doing even the simplest drills,” Hutchison said. “Many of them had never had any formal training and basic skills like passing and dribbling around cones was all new to them. Watching their confidence grow daily, seeing the pride they took in learning new things is something I will remember for a very long time.” Many of the college players that participated in the tour were from NAIA and NCAA Division II and III schools. Those who were on the same team as the USAO trio were from Maine, Virginia, Florida, California, Missouri and Texas. “I think all three of us got a different perspective on how to better appreciate our lifestyles that we enjoy in America. I take lot of things for granted that you don’t normally have in other countries.,” Hutchison said. “We had to raise our own money for the tour, but it was worth every dollar for what we learned from it.” Beyond Sports, founded in 2010, is the first study abroad program designed specifically for studentathletes. To date, they have hosted athletes from over 200 different colleges across the country through summer and semester programs in Costa Rica and South Africa.

OFFENSE After a bit of time up in Class 4A, Anadarko drops back into the 3A ranks this year and has intentions of making a big splash on their return. “No matter what class we are in, our goal is to win a gold ball,” Anadarko coach Kent Jackson said. The Warriors will be led by a dominant ground game spearheaded by VYPE Top 100 running back Trey Eason (5-9, 170, Jr.). Opening up holes for Eason this year is an offensive line who rivals some of the top-notch Anadarko lines of the past. Dace Granger (6-0, 240, Sr.), Teague Stands
(6-1, 230, Sr.) and Billy Nunn (6-2, 240, Jr.) are all physical players with the type of mean streak you want in a lineman. When the Warriors do throw the ball it will be Dayton Moser (6-0, 189, Sr.) dropping back to pass. Moser’s top target this year will be wide receiver Curtis Osceola (6-0, 180, Jr.).
DEFENSE Jackson believes his team has a chance to be better defensively this year than they were in 2015 with good ends, linebackers and secondary. Jackson added that if the line play comes around the Warriors will be a stout defense this year. The ends Jackson speaks so highly of will be Granger and Mason Hackney (6-2, 180, Sr.). Both player possess a great ability to get to the quarterback and should make their home in plenty of opponents’ backfields this year At linebacker Kyle Jones (6-1, 220, Sr.) leads the way and will be joined by Jo Jo Anderson (6-1, 220, Jr.) and Kyle White (6-0, 180, Jr.). In the defensive backfield Tarron Willhoite (5-10, 170, Sr.) will start at cornerback and is the type of absolute ballhawk who can torture receivers each and every week.

Top 5 Area Games To Watch
Tucker Halstead - Minco Five Must-See September Football Games in Southwest Oklahoma. Sept. 2 – Ada at Ardmore: This is a fun game for sure. The “Battle of the Cats” as it has come to be known is a great rivalry game. Both teams have plenty of tradition and both have some really great players again this season. Ardmore has a VYPE Top 100 player in defensive tackle Tyreece Lott and another great defensive standout in Jordan Roberts who will play defensive back but also see some time on offense as a running back in Ardmore’s option attack. Ada meanwhile will counter with an experienced defense led by guys like Micah Hutchins at defensive end and nose guard Jonathon Cook. Sept. 9 – Ringling at Minco: When it comes to early season, non-district matchups it doesn’t get much better than this Class A
showdown. Minco is going to bring a rough-and-tumble rushing attack led by Tucker Halstead to the table. Ringling meanwhile will counter with playmakers like DeWyatt Cox and Ricky Lewis. If you love small school football this is a great game to catch early on. If you like some great smashmouth football action then this is the game you want to be at. Sept. 16 – Lawton at Lawton Eisenhower: It’s hard to turn down a good rivalry game this early in the season. Along with all the tradition that comes with this contest you are going to get a great show on the field. Lawton brings a balanced offensive attack led by running back Tre Curry and quarterback Zack Hanna. Eisenhower will also be fairly balanced but look for quarterback RJ Fisher to put up big numbers along with receivers like Mookie Douglass and Jonell Pagan. Really any way you slice it this should be a fun game.
Sept. 23 – Douglass at Anadarko: I’m a big believer in Anadarko football this year as I am every year. Maybe a bit more so in 2016 though because of the Warriors’ move back down to Class 3A. Look for Trey Eason to have a big year for the Warriors but he isn’t the only one. Dace Granger and Mason Hackney also are poised to have a monster year as the Anadarko starting defensive ends. Douglass is no pushover though. They have some big playmakers like Chris Friday to turn to and the Trojans aren’t a group likely to back down or be intimated by the Anadarko tradition and home field advantage. Sept. 30 – Elk City at Clinton: This should be a great game. Both teams approach the game in a similar blue-collar way. Both teams have aspirations of making the playoffs and have playmakers who should make things exciting. Elk City will be led by quarterback Gage Porter and wide receiver Noah Kerr. Clinton’s dynamic duo of playmakers will be quarterback Connor Dwyer and receiver JJ Brown. Honestly if you aren’t excited for this one check your pulse because you’re probably dead.

Schedule: Aug. 26 – at Sapulpa Sept. 1 – at PC West Sept. 9 – vs. Shawnee Sept. 16 – OPEN Sept. 22 – at Southeast Sept. 30 – vs. Altus Oct. 7 – at Western Heights Oct. 14 – vs. Del City Oct. 20 – vs. MacArthur Oct. 28 – at Ardmore Nov. 4 – vs. El Reno
Quick Hits: Trenton Bell will be one of the more feared backs in Class 5A this fall. Bell hit pay dirt three times, including once from 75 yards out in a 42-7 win against El Reno.
The Demons knocked off Guthrie in the season opener 28-27. It ended a six game losing streak to the Blue Jays and marked the first win for the Demons since 1995. Duncan and Chickasha began playing in 1922. And after playing for well over a quarter century consecutively, they will not meet in 2016. Duncan won the last two in a row and 14 out of the last 25. OFFENSE If you like old-fashioned, smashmouth, we are going to line up and run the ball and dare you to stop us football, then Duncan is the team for you. The Demons will operate out of the Spread but don’t let that fool you; they are going to be a run-heavy team. The tip of the spear for the Demons’ rushing attack will be VYPE Top 100 running back Trenton Bell (6-2, 207, Sr.). A big, strong runner who gets stronger as the game gets closer to the final minutes, a year ago Bell had 1,233 yards and 15 touchdowns on 206 carries. Blocking for Bell this year will be an offensive line led by J.W. Morrow (6-5, 287, Sr.) and Charles Ajjarapu (6-0, 237, Sr.). Coby Kirkland (6-0, 187, Jr.) will also have an impact on the Duncan offense this year most likely at quarterback. Just a pure athlete Kirkland had 17 carries for 94 yards, 71 passing yards and one touchdown along with eight catches for 94 yards and one touchdown. If Kirkland does line up under center expect his two top targets to be wide receivers Dillen Seeberger (5-9, 182, Sr.) and Tyler Polk (5-10, 180, Jr.).
DEFENSE On the defensive side of the ball Seeberger and Kirkland give the Demons great athleticism in the defensive backfield. Last season Kirkland re-

corded 27.5 tackles while Seeberger chipped in 14.5 of his own. Justin Billingsley (6-2, 175, Sr.) will also get major playing time in the secondary this year after picking up 12.5 tackles last year. At outside linebacker Duncan will return a good amount of production in the form of J.J. Harris (5-10, 191, So.). Last year Harris had 58.5 tackles and those numbers should go up with him making plays sideline to sideline this year. Johnathan Babineaux (5-10, 183, So.) is also going to see major playing time at an outside linebacker spot this year giving the Demons a young but athletic group of tacklers.

MARLOW OUTLAWS
OFFENSE The anticipation is growing at Marlow as the 2016 rapidly approaches, but for the returning starters on offense, opening day can’t come soon enough. Last season quarterback Will Coffman (6-0, 180, Jr.) threw for over 500 yards and five touchdowns all while splitting time with a senior. Coffman will get his shot at being the full time signal caller this season and that could mean very beneficial for his receivers. Wyatt Bergner (6-1, 180, Jr.) and Dawsom Huddleston were contributors last season with Huddleston accounting for over 500 yards of offense, but Bergner was the all-purpose back that led the team in rushing with 791 yards on the ground. Parker VanBuskirk has the potential to work his way onto the field and become a major contributor to the offense. Preston Nunley (5-10, 175, Sr.) is a two-way player looking to have a larger role on the offense this season. Nunley was one of several players that returned kicks a year ago. Also look for Ryan Ford and Braeden O’Dell in 2016. Both players have the athleticism to earn a spot in the lineup. DEFENSE
It’s no surprise the Outlaws are built on an aggressive style of defense that pressures the ball and forces teams to make mistakes. Nunley returns as the Outlaws leading tackler recording 71 total last season. Bergner will start at safety with Huddleston. Zac Bittman (Jr.) is one of several linebackers the Outlaws have on the roster. Last season Bittman accounted for 31 tackles. The tandem of Nunley and Bittman is a formidable one. One player to watch is Colton Renfro (6-0, 200, Sr.) within that group of talented linebackers. Renfro is a physical player that continues to improve. Other players to watch include Jordan Smith (5-9, 170, Sr.), Gage O’Neal (5-7, 145, Sr.) and Blaise Voight (5-10, 165, Jr.). The Marlow Outlaws return key pieces that should give them the opportunity to compete at a high level in a very tough class.
CACHE BULLDOGS
Quarterback Jadyn Garcia (5-10, 170, Sr.) will be the player tasked with spreading the ball around to all of Cache’s dynamic playmakers this year. Last but not least, if you love offensive line play make sure you look for Nick Gunnarschja (6-1, 250, Sr.), he will be the one pushing opposing defensive linemen around. DEFENSE In Cache’s 4-3 base defense Caesar will make another big impact at defensive end this year. Caesar is a fantastic pass rusher and don’t let his calm demeanor fool you, this kid plays mean. Garland will also start at defensive end this year and help take some pressure off of Caesar. Levi Cain (5-10, 220, Sr.) will play the mike linebacker spot for the Bulldogs and is an absolute tackling machine. In the secondary Cache will have some dynamite athletes in Dowell and Thomas. Dowell will likely play strong safety with Thomas lining up at corner. Devin Pawley (5-9, 160, Sr.) will also be a part of the secondary this year at free safety.
OFFENSE The Bulldogs are back this season with a ferocious bite. That all starts with Kaieem Caesar (6-3, 260, Sr.) at wide receiver or tight end. Caesar was a VYPE Top 100 selection and has a great attitude and an extremely high motor but more than that he just gets the job done. Another tight end, Tony Garland (6-4, 265, Sr.) will also be a big target in the passing game this year. Maurice Dowell (5-11, 170, Sr.) brings amazing speed to the table and will line up at receiver this year but will also spend some time at running back. Hayden Nunley (5-9, 175, Sr.) should also get major time at running back this year bringing balance to the Cache offense. Jair Thomas (5-9, 160, Sr.) is listed as an athlete and will factor into the offense somewhere due to his supreme versatility.

MOM OF THE Suzanne Presgrove
MONTH
Suzanne Presgrove is a very busy mom of two kids, Peyton and Perri, who loves to support them in everything that she does. Peyton (25) is a Duncan High School graduate who went on to earn his degree in journalism from Cameron University. Perri is a senior at Duncan High School who plays volleyball, runs track, and is a member of the Jolly Jill’s Social Club. Suzanne is very involved in both of her kids’ lives and enjoys doing whatever she can to help out. For volleyball, Suzanne helps make snack bags that are given to the volleyball players for away game road trips. She also plays a key role in putting on the volleyball program’s Pink Night and Senior Night by making signs, gifts, getting flowers, and working the silent auction which benefits cancer research. Suzanne is very active at Duncan High School where she served on several committees for the 2016 prom, and plans on helping with Project Graduation this upcoming school year. She is also a sponsor for the Jolly Jill’s Social Club, where she coordinates fundraising events that benefit organizations such as The Human Society and The Gifted Pocket, which provides quality jeans to middle school girls in need. Suzanne is also very involved in the Duncan community. She is a member of New Life Church in Duncan and loves helping out with Relay 4 Life every year. Always willing, Suzanne says, “I do it because I want to. I love being a mom; a volleyball mom!” She is also very humble, saying that the volleyball team is a “great group of girls” and that they making helping out easy. For her tireless support of her kids, Duncan athletics, and the community, Suzanne Presgrove is most deserving of VYPE magazine’s Duncan Mom of the Month.

Tyrece Lott OFFENSE In two seasons as Ardmore’s head coach Doug Newby hasn’t skipped a beat going 19-5 as the man in charge. This season Ardmore will be dealing with the loss of several key players due to graduation but the Tigers don’t rebuild, they only reload. Jordan Roberts (6-1, 175, Sr.) will start at running back this year and could have an explosive year offensively according to coach Newby. Kobe Pickens (5-9, 170, Sr.) will be the other running back in Ardmore’s flexbone scheme and should see plenty of carries, as will fullback Chance Scurry (6-1, 200, Jr.). At wide receiver Deandre Walker (5-10, 175, Sr.) and Diontre Dixon (60, 175, Sr.) will see the bulk of the targets in the passing game this year. Any option-style run game though needs an offensive line that can win the battle at the line of scrimmage. This year Ardmore’s line will be led by Jordan Enabnit (5-10, 210, Jr.) at center. DEFENSE On defense the Tigers are a

group that can strike fear into the heart of any opposing offense. That all starts with Tyreece Lott (6-3, 262, Sr.) at defensive end. Lott was selected to the VYPE Top 100 and is an imposing figure to line up against and a nightmare to have to block. Sevin Franklin (6-1, 222, Sr.) will also start at defensive end this year and should see plenty of favorable matchups due to the havoc that Lott will turn loose. In the middle of the field Nick Weldon (5-11, 190, Sr.) will start at linebacker for the Tigers with Tay Swindall (5-11, 200, Sr.) playing outside linebacker. Swindall is a dynamo of an athlete who also shines on the basketball floor for the Tigers and has made a name for himself due to his hustle and hardnosed defense. In the secondary fans will find Roberts starting at cornerback, a place where his speed and athleticism serves him well. Diondre Scott (6-0, 175, Sr.) will also play on the back end of the defense for Ardmore lining up at strong safety. Overall coach Newby said he and his team are looking forward to the challenge of 2016. “The state champion has come out of this district the past two years and our players are excited to compete,” Newby said.
Kobe Pickens
PLAINVIEW INDIANS Coach: JOE PRICE Enrollment: 425
Schedule: Aug. 26 – vs. Broken Bow Sept. 2 – at Elgin Sept. 9 – vs. U.S. Grant Sept. 16 – at Tuttle Sept. 23 – at Lone Grove Sept. 30 – vs. Pauls Valley Oct. 7 – OPEN Oct. 14 – at Sulphur Oct. 21 – at Dickson Oct. 28 – vs. Seminole Nov. 4 – vs. Madill Last 5 Years: 2015 - 9-3 2014 - 5-7 2013 - 13-1 2012 - 9-3 2011- 9-4
OFFENSE If you are looking for something close to a sure bet then put your money down on Plainview making a deep playoff run. Last season the Indians finished the year 9-3 and in 2016 they bring back eight offensive starters. Kobe Brewster (5-11, 170, Sr.) was selected to the VYPE Top 100 and will be starting at quarterback. Brewster is a dual-threat in Plainview’s Spread attack, something he proved by rushing for 1,508 yards and 17 touchdowns last year and passing for 1,672 yards and 17 more touchdowns. Running back Eli Paul (5-11, 185, Sr.) is another player defenses will need to key on this year. Last season Paul ran for 840 yards on 142 carries and could easily break the 1,000 yard mark this year. Wide receivers Parker Foster (5-7, 165, Sr.) and Zane Hudson (6-0, 165, Sr.) are two other skill players who will be instrumental in Plainview’s success in 2016. As a junior Foster had 465 yards of total offense and five touchdowns. Hudson meanwhile had 14 catches for 246 yards and three touchdowns. Up front John Wright (6-2, 280, Sr.0 will
start at right guard for the Indians. Darren Benham (6-3, 200, Sr.) will also be a road grader on the Plainview line at right tackle. DEFENSE On defense Plainview brings back eight starters but the strongest part of the Indians’ defense will be the secondary. Brewster, Paul and Foster will all occupy spots in the defensive backfield with Brewster at safety and Foster at corner. In 2015 Brewster had 70 total tackles and two forced fumbles and Foster added 61 total stops, nine pass deflections and three picks. Paul was no slouch either last season with 79.5 total tackles and three interceptions to his credit. Spencer Sommerville (6-0, 165, Jr.) will also play in the secondary at safety. After a sophomore campaign where he recorded 77 total tackles and one interception Sommerville is anxious to help make the Plainview secondary a no-fly-zone in 2016. On the defensive line look for Wright to lead the way and provide some serious muscle to the trenches.
