Lawton has won nine straight games against competition in Class 6A-Division 2. Their last setback against a foe in the new classification came at the hands of arch-rival Lawton Ike in 2008.
The Wolverines have hit double digits on the scoreboard in 22 straight games and 53 of their last 54. Broken Arrow was able to hold Lawton to just a single touchdown in the second round of the 2011 playoffs. Last 5 Years: 2013 - 11-1 2012 - 6-4 2011- 9-3 2010- 12-1 2009 – 9-3
OFFENSE There are multiple reasons why Wolverines’ head coach Randy Breeze is anxious to get the 2014 season underway. Two major causes for the expectations of success are VYPE Top 100 selections Jalin Barnett (6-4, 310, Sr.) and Darreyl Patterson (6-1, 175, Sr.). “Guys like those two make you a much better coach,” chuckled Breeze. “Jalin is bigger and stronger than last year and when he turns up in the gap there’s a collision about to happen.” Barnett, rated one of the top 10 linemen in the nation, has multiple Division-I offers going into the fall. “Darreyl has drawn national college recruiting attention because of his play at cornerback,” said Breeze, “but he’s a real threat when we give him the football. He’s better than Michael (Warren) was at this time last year.” Warren ran for more than 2,500 yards last year and has since moved on to Iowa State. And, like Barnett, whose speed and vertical jump are off the charts, Patterson has six Division-I offers currently pending. Lawton will present a huge force in the offensive line averaging 300 pounds per man in the trench. Devin Gates (6-2, 313, Sr.), who bench presses 345 pounds, lines up next to Barnett. “Right side, strong side,” said Breeze. “It’s nice to have a point of attack you feel like you’ll win on every snap.” Hagen Meservy (6-3, 280, So.), who started at center last year, will join DeWayne Doucette (6-0, 6

Jalin Barnett 305, Sr.) and the combo of Steve Youmans (6-2, 275, Jr.) and Ed Muniz (5-9, 260, Sr.) to create a driving force for Lawton’s pro-style one back offense. Running the show will be quarterback Jack Meservy (6-2, 210, Sr.), called a pocket style passer with a strong arm by Breeze, will be ready for action. Tristen Gooden (6-3, 190, Sr.) provides a physical and dependable target at tight end while Kalin Sadler (5-11, 165, Sr.), who also has drawn attention of college recruiters with 10.6 speed in the 100 meters, streaks by opposing defenders. “If opponents crowd the box to stop the run, we hope to get 1 on 1 coverage with Kalin,” said Breeze. “He’s full speed on the first step which let’s us stretch the field.” DEFENSE The talent of the Wolverines defense is equal to their offensive teammates as college recruiters continue to make daily stops in Lawton. “We had 50 plus Division-I coaches during the 10 days this spring,” said Breeze, “our kids thought they were at an NFL combine.” Patterson made 65 tackles and 3 interceptions a year ago and will join Bryce Birt (6-0, 165, Sr.), Mikal Thompson (5-10, 160, Sr.) at cornerback while Chris Bishop (6-3, 190, Sr.) and Chris Jones (5-10, 160, Sr.) patrol the secondary. Malik Hanna (6-1, 193, Sr.), who made 93 tackles including 3 sacks and interceptions, brings 10.7 speed in the 100 meters to the linebacker position joining Levi Cain (5-11, 215, So.). “Lawton has always had speed,” admits Breeze. “This time we have the physical size, strength and ability to match to give us a chance for a special season.” With the realignment of Class 6A into two divisions, Breeze likes his team’s chances to win a gold ball. “The change is good for us and for all of 6A,” said Breeze. “With our experienced players and talented young guys, we’re working around the clock everyday to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Quick Hits: The bus ride will be long for the Eagles season opening opponent. Fayetteville, Arkansas travels to Cameron Stadium on the heels of an 8-3 effort in 2013. The Bulldogs defeated Muskogee 27-22 last year and will face the Roughers again this season. Canyon, Texas will also make the long journey to Lawton for a non-district game. And that contest will be no bargain for Ike. Canyon’s Eagles are coming off a 12-1 effort in 2013. Their lone loss was to eventual Class 4A-Division 2 state champion Aledo. Quick Hits: The Highlanders have owned Chickasha in recent times. Lawton Mac has won eleven in a row in the series and only one of those games has been closer than 20 points.
Mac’s highest scoring game of 2013 came in week seven when the Highlanders’ and Duncan combined for 127 points. Mac came out on top of that contest 71-56. It was the most points for a MacArthur team since an 80-0 beatdown of US Grant in 2000.
Lawton Mac has produced consistently good teams on par with any program in the state. The Highlanders have won 8 or more games in 10 of the last 11 years. Last 5 Years: 2013 - 10-3 2012 - 8-3 2011 – 13-1 2010 – 10-3 2009 – 7-4

OFFENSE In 2013 the Eagles finished the year with an overall record of 4-6 by ending the year strong and winning three of their final five games. This season Daniel Edelman comes in to take over the head coaching duties after the resignation of long time head coach Boone Copeland. Edelman has already set his goals high this year saying he is “looking forward to the Eisenhower Eagles returning to the state playoffs.” Helping Edelman achieve those goals will be five returning offensive starters led by Bentley Bross (6-2, 180, Sr.) at quarterback. Tight end Conner Bridges (6-2, 210, Sr.) will be one of Bross’ big targets in the passing game this season.

OFFENSE The Highlanders are coming off of an impressive 10-3 season and a deep run into the Class 5A playoffs. “I really like our attitude and work ethic,” said head coach Will Collins Brett Manning. “If we continue to improve every day, the sky is the limit.” Running a spread offense, eight starters return to a team that coach Manning refers to as “fast paced and evenly balanced.” The Highlanders appear to have the pieces back for another run in the playoffs. Quarterback Will Collins (6-3, 190, Sr.) was named to the VYPE Top 100 and is expected to have another outstanding campaign in 2014. Collins will benefit from an outstanding offensive line that includes tackle T.J. Fiailoa (6-5, 330, Jr.) and guard Zach Reta (5-11, 280, Sr.). With Fiailoa and Reta up front the Highlanders have the building blocks for an outstanding group of linemen that can make holes and move people. Wide

Receivers David Madigan (5-8, 160, Sr.) and Rico Bussey (6-2, 170, Jr.) will both also be counted on for a large portion of production this year. On the Eagles offensive line Gabe Moana (6-2, 260, Sr.) will be the general on the front line starting at center.
DEFENSE On defense the Eagles will operate out of a 4-2-5 base defense and be an attacking unit who flies to the ball. On the line Moana will start at defensive tackle while Juan Vint (6-1, 235, Sr.) will be a player constantly in opponents’ backfields as he comes off the edge starting at defensive end. At linebacker Floyd McAlister (6-2, 190, Sr.) and Tony Sharp (6-0, 200, Sr.) will both make a huge impact for the Eagles’ defense. Defensive back TJ Spratt (5-10, 160, Sr.) will be the leader of the Eisenhower secondary this year and try to help the Eagles improve on the average of 26.3 points per game they allowed in 2013. Overall with just three returning starters back on defense the Eagles will need to mature quickly in order to compete in a district that includes early gold ball favorites Midwest City and Lawton High.

receiver Deion James (5-10, 170, Sr.) is a deep threat in the passing game, while running back Davon Finkley (5-10, 205, Sr.) will add another element to the run attack.
DEFENSE Similar to the offense, the defense also returns eight starters. Coach Manning had only one word to describe this side of the ball: “Aggressive.” The 3-4 defense will feature defensive end Connor Cherry (6-3, 230, Sr.). Cherry has tremendous size and quickness for a big man and will contain the edge for the Highlanders. Trey Everette (6-0, 255, Sr.) will start opposite Cherry at end giving the Highlanders two players that get after the quarterback from the outside. The secondary is strong with corner Lorenzo West (5-11, 165, Sr.), free safety Jacquez Henderson (5-11, 175, Sr.) and strong safety Devontrae Young (6-1, 195, Sr.). The defense will be tested by the pass happy district, but expect them to respond with physical play and a ball hawking group of kids in the secondary. Look for the special teams play to be improved as the team works to limit mistakes in the kicking game and swing momentum with big punt returns by some athletic players capable of flipping the field or taking it to the house. OFFENSE The Bulldogs had a tough season last year, with two one-point losses to Chickasha and Elk City. However, with eight starters returning, Cache has the opportunity of redemption. “Our athletes have worked hard this offseason, and we look Marcellous forward to a competitive season,” said head coach John Herbert. Experience will be key as the Bulldogs plan to run an uptempo offense with multiple formations, using the 2 x 2 Shotgun as its base. Standout players include wide receiver Marcellous Dowell (6-3, 185, Sr.); running backs Tristan Slinker (6-1, 195, Jr.) and Shakirr Cosdell (5-9, 175, Jr.); quarterback Matt Seratte (5-9, 150, Jr.) and offensive lineman RJ Sawi (5-10, 275, Sr.).
Walters Blue Devils OFFENSE Walters looks to improve on its record from last year, and Coach Griffin is optimistic. “We have been rebuilding the program the past two years I have been here,” he said. “We are now ready to compete.” Running a spread formation, the Blue Devils have six starters returning. One of the top standout players includes running back Kyle Graham (5-10, 180, So.), who had six touchdowns and 324 yards in a single varsity game as a freshman. Other standouts include wide receiver Bryce Willis (6-0, 155, Sr.); wide receiver Lucas Hienzman (6-1, 185, Sr.); tailback Cade Baumann (6-4, 210, Jr.); and wide receiver Trevor Hartman (6-2, 175, Jr.). According to Griffin, the people in the stands should expect to see “an explosive offense with a lot of misdirection and motion,” he said. “We will be balanced with run and pass.”
DEFENSE The defense returns nine starters from last year, who plan on running an interchange of the 4-3 and 3-4 formations. The standouts for the defense are young but eager to play. They include linebacker Dakota Connick (6-0, 195, Jr.); defensive lineman Charles Gladney (6-1, 245, Jr.); linebacker Jake Swanson (5Dowell 10, 170, Jr.); defensive back Garret Sullins (5-9, 150, Jr.); and Kaieem Caesar (6-3, 220, So.) who will split time at both linebacker and defensive line. “Defensively we want to run multiple fronts with the 4-3 and a mix of 3-4,” said coach Herbert. Overall the Bulldogs have a young squad on defense, but they do not lack experience. Another summer in the weight room will go a long ways in making this defensive unit a solid group that plays fast and physical.
DEFENSE The Blue Devils will return seven starters to their 5-2 Defense, which is characterized by Griffin as “an aggressive defense that swarms the ball.” The standout players include Heinzman and Willis, who come over to the other side of the ball to play linebacker and defensive back, respectively. Other players include linebacker Konner Hale (5-10, 200, Jr.); Tyler Anderson (6-3, 220, So.); and defensive back Colton Wrape (5-8, 155, Sr.).

Tuttle and Elgin will play for the ninth consecutive season. The Tigers have won all eight previous meetings during that time span. Last 5 Years: 2013 - 5-6 2012 - 2-8 2011 – 4-6 2010 – 8-4 2009 – 8-3
elgin owls OFFENSE In 2013 the Owls finished the regular season with a 5-5 record, a mark good enough to get the Owls into the Class 4A playoffs. The postseason wasn’t kind to the Owls however with Douglass eliminating the team in the first round. This season the Owls will return six offensive starters including Brett Lorah (6-0, 178, Sr.) who moves over to quarterback this year after compiling 650 yards receiving last season. Running back Draven Johnson (5-10, 198, Sr.) will be another key instrument for the Elgin offense this season. As a junior Johnson rushed for 534 yards and is poised for an even more productive senior campaign this season. Wide receiver Richard Morigeau (6-0, 206, Jr.) had 490 yards receiving last season and will be one of Lorah’s top targets this season. The Owls offense will only take flight however with help from a big offensive line lead by Branton Jones (5-9, 212, Sr.) and Austin Lillich (6-0, 200, Sr.).
once again play key roles for the Owls. Johnson and Morigeau will both play linebacker this season where Johnson had 145 tackles and Morigeau added 132 more and three interceptions a year ago. Lorah, the team’s leader in the secondary, is coming off a 2013 season in which he made 87 tackles and intercepted six passes. Hunter Leonard (5-6, 145, Jr.) and Michael Heer (5-11, 174, Jr.) will also be key figures on the Elgin defense this year. Last season Leonard made 98 tackles and Heer chipped in 43 more, making the duo a fearsome pair in the middle of the Elgin defense.

Changing the way people look at training. help turn the players who come to our gym into the athletes they know they can become.
SWOL Sports Performance is located in Weatherford, OK, and we are changing the way people and athletes look at training and gyms. At SWOL, we chose to stay in Western Oklahoma to give back to the people and athletes who have the potential to better their bodies and minds, but believe that is only possible in the larger cities. We want to give not just athletes, but people of all ages, the opportunity to change their lives and focus on the goals they want to achieve. This is what SWOL does, and this is what SWOL can do for you. Here at SWOL, we help unlock the true potential of any athletic they had locked away before becoming part of our growing family. Through personal training, group training, and the everyday workouts posted on the board, we help athletes gain confidence with each workout which translates into them performing with agility, speed, balance, coordination, and body control. As these attributes continue to grow, athletes will start to recognize how all their hard work has transferred from the gym to their respected territory. Their fundamental movement development, such as dribbling a basketball, swinging a bat, or tackling an opponent, will be operating at such a higher level than they have ever experienced, as long as they stay dedicated and respectful to they’re training we provide and the gym. SWOL prides itself in getting athletes to unleash their inner beast and obtain the competitive edge that separates their level of play from anyone they go against. To do that, one has to recognize that different workouts are necessary for football than it is for golf or basketball and such. This is why SWOL focuses on bettering each individual and their specific sports skills. We give our athletes who want to win championships, and who want to take their game to the next level, the best training possible and show them the respect they deserve to reach whatever goal they want to reach. At the very beginning of any great gym is a leader who makes it into what it is. Josh Musick is the founder and main trainer of SWOL Sports Performance. With a Bachelor’s in Health and Exercise Science, and a Master’s in Business, Josh has taken many athlete’s potential and turned it into reality. He gained a lot of his experience as the strength and conditioning coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he trained all athletes for seven years. After SWOSU, Josh turned his attention to professional athletes where he has trained several players from the Cleveland Browns professional football team. With the experience Josh has from training professional athletes, and athletes he has shaped into NCAA D1 athletes, he brought those skills and experiences back to Western Oklahoma and has been training all types of athletes of all ages, and helping push them towards their goals. The biggest misconception about SWOL Sports Performance is people think we only work with athletes, or are insure about joining our gym. We are a giant family, and we have members of all different sizes, agendas, and backgrounds. The most important idea we stress at our gym is making sure you are working on a better you, no matter your size or age, a better you is a healthier and happier you. 1. Character is a combination of qualities that distinguishes one person or group from another. VYPE celebrates achievements of local high school athletes by presenting the monthly “Character Counts Award.” Weatherford senior volleyball and basketball player Rilee Roberson is the consummate team player according to Weatherford head volleyball coach Vanessa Geheb. “She’s reliable and dependable, the kind of girl you never want to give up, but doesn’t come around very often,” Geheb said. “This is her first season to start varsity but last year she really embraced what it meant to be a team player from the sidelines or in practice. She knows being a teammate does not only being one of the starting six. Weatherford High School mean She understands support and work ethic in practice.” Along with volleyball and basketball Roberson has also played slow-pitch softball and ran track during her time at Weatherford. Outside of athletics Roberson is involved in FCA, was a member of Key Club her freshman year, is a member of show choir, and is also a member of Too Much to Lose at Weatherford as well. For her dedication to athletics, being a quality teammate, her academics and her activities outside of school Rilee Roberson is the Weatherford Character Counts Female Athlete of the Month.

On the football field senior Ben Ervin starts on the Weatherford offensive and defensive line where he helped the Eagles to a 4-5 overall record in 2013. In the winter Ervin is a member of the Weatherford wrestling team and qualified for the Class 4A state tournament. Ervin finished third at the state tournament after losing his first match to Trevor Hubble of Cushing but rebounding to win three straight matches including a victory over Hubble in the third place match. Heading into this year Ervin has set some lofty goals for himself and the football team.
“My goal would be to first make the playoffs. To win our very tough district would be awesome and I have yet to do that. I also want to make a deep run in the playoffs then get to the top of the podium during wrestling season,” Ervin said.
Outside of athletics Ervin is very involved with the Weatherford Special Education Program and is also a member of the Church of Christ in Weatherford. For his dedication to athletics and his involvement in his community Ben Ervin is the Weatherford Male Character Counts Athlete of the Month.
Julia Sandoval - Weatherford High School Senior Julia Sandoval plays varsity volleyball for the Weatherford Lady Eagles. As an outside hitter for head coach Vannessa Geheb, Julia works hard to help improve the team and help her teammates. “I definitely expect growth. We are a young team and we graduated some amazing talent last year. I expect to build a new chemistry that will enable us to play to our maximum abilities.”
In the spring Julia will play varsity soccer for Weatherford and after graduation she is considering attending Oklahoma Christian University.
Being a leader on the volleyball team is something Julia takes very serious. “To me being a leader is very important. Having someone who is either younger, the same age or even older, means a lot. A leader isn’t someone who gives criticism, but is someone who will take it and grow from it and be a good example and encourage others. Good leaders can’t have bad attitudes and should be willing to help out a teammate,” Julia said.
Julia spends her free time hanging out with friends and family. “ I like to travel and participate in all my church activities. I also like to sing with my praise group.”
Looking forward to her senior year, “English is my best subject. I love to write. Weatherford is a small school. So many have the opportunity to play. Being part of a team here at WHS teaches not just the game, but skills we will need later on in life. And it keeps us healthy and in shape!”

Last season Simpkins missed some time with an injury but still managed to rush for 1,399 yards and 14 touchdowns; an effort good enough to earn Simpkins VYPE Top 100 honors for the second year in a row. Deonte Barker (5-9, 165, So.) is Simpkins heir apparent and will also see some time in the backfield this season after rushing for 220 yards and four touchdowns on 32 carries last season. Chris Brooks (5-8, 150, So.) ran for 71 yards and one touchdown on just nine carries last year and is another talented rusher the Red Tornadoes will count on this year. Clinton will also have two big road graders up front in Caden Wyer (60, 205, Sr.) and Hector Hernandez (5-8, 205, Jr.) clearing the way for their bevy of backs. DEFENSE With five starters back on defense Clinton will still be very strong in their front seven with A.J. Armbruster (5-9, 210, Jr.) and Michael Knabe (6-1, 185, Sr.) both playing on the defensive line. Knabe will also play some linebacker this season depending on the looks the Red Tornadoes get from opposing offenses. Other key linebackers that will need to put up big numbers this year are Daniel Lopez (6-1, 170, So.) and Wyatt Eaton (5-10, 190, Sr.). In 2013 Eaton made 20 tackles and had one interception to his credit while Lopez made 47 tackles and picked off two passes.
Marquiz Simpkins Simpkins will also be a major piece of the Clinton defense as he brings his speed and nose for the ball to the secondary. Overall Clinton head coach Mike Lee said he believes that if things go right for his team fans can expect the Red Tornadoes to once again be a team that makes a deep playoff run. “If we stay healthy and our young guys come through we will be in the mix,” Lee said before handing things over to Phil Koons.

elk city elks OFFENSE Looking to improve on last year’s 1-9 record Bill Williams comes to Elk City from Hartshorne to take over the head coaching duties for the Elks this Mark Adams year. Williams said that one thing will be quickly evident to fans this season. “First of all our heart will never be a question. Nobody will ever look out there and question if we play hard,” Williams said. “We have to get mentally prepared to change. We have to change the way they talk, the way they walk and the way they think. We are going to get tough and we are going to get tough fast.” Josh Adams (6-1, 200, Jr.) and Mark Adams (5-10, 170, Jr.) will both be big targets on the outside as the teams’ top two receivers. Last season Josh ran for 157 yards and had 124 receiving yards while Mark picked up 244 receiving yards and had 177 yards on the ground. Another key skill position player will be running back Shayne Thornton (6-2, 210, Jr.) who had 439 yards rushing last year and 228 receiving yards coming out of the backfield.
On the offensive line Tate Harland (60, 250, Jr.) and DeMarco McMichael (6-1, 250, Jr.) will bring a special brand of toughness to the team.
DEFENSE On the defensive side of the ball Williams will be bringing his aggressive, attacking philosophy to Elk City this year. A good portion of that attacking style will come from the linebacker positions where fans of the Big Elks can expect to find Thornton and Josh Adams. Last season Adams made 48 total tackles while Thornton added 47 of his own. Tyre Jones (5-10, 290, Sr.) and Jakoby Mikles (5-10, 250, Jr.) will also be key figures in the Elk City front seven starting on the defensive line. In 2013 the two linemen combined for 44.5 total tackles and will be expecting even bigger numbers this season. The Elks will also have a playmaker in the defensive backfield with Mark Adams patrolling the back end of the defense. Adams made 26 total tackles last year and will use his size and speed to make a large impact on the game this year.

In the backfield, Taray Thomas (6-0, 175, Jr.) will run the ball in the tailback position. He’s also dangerous as a receiver, with last year’s stats including 44 catches for 675 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. “We’re going to get the ball to him as much as possible,” said Bray. Also looking to catch a few passes is Cole Young (6-1, 170, Sr.), who had 14 catches for 168 receiving yards and one touchdown. An additional contribution to this season, said Bray, will be Clayton Mosley (6-1, 210, So.). According to Bray, Mosley can do it all—H-back, fullback or slot receiver. Talk about excelling at an early age. Before even taking her first atbat for the Chickasha softball team in 2014, Lynnsie Elam has already logged a year as the Fighting Chicks’ starting catcher. She has also committed to the University of Oklahoma. As Chickasha’s backstop in 2013, Elam helped lead the Fighting Chicks to the Class 5A state tournament, where Tahlequah eliminated them in the quarterfinals. Elam also received All-District honors at the end of her freshman campaign, which ended with Chickasha recording 28 wins and six losses. Chickasha athletic director Yohance Brown is awfully proud of Elam, too. “She’s a great student-athlete,” Brown said. “She is an
extremely hard worker and has always been very focused and committed to being the best player she can be.” As for the outlook on Chickasha’s softball season in 2014, Elam said, “I know we’re going to be really strong, and we have a good chance of going to state. I’m excited about that, and I think we can do well this season.”
Tate Odam tuttle tigers Coach: BRAD BALLARD Enrollment: 510 Last 5 Years: 2012 - 10-2 2011- 7-3 2010 – 7-4 2009 – 11-1 2008 – 12-1
Schedule: Sept. 5 – vs. Blanchard Sept. 12 – at Newcastle Sept. 19 – vs. Elgin Sept. 26 – vs. Tecumseh Oct. 3 – at Bristow Oct. 10 – vs. Harrah Oct. 16 – at Ada Oct. 24 – at McLoud Oct. 31 – vs. Glenpool Nov. 7 – at Santa Fe South
Quick Hits: The Tigers will face tradition rich Ada for the first time in history when they travel to Norris Field on October 16th. Head coach Phil Koons left the program after an incredible 21 year run as head coach. Koons coached an eventual Heisman Trophy winner in Jason White, won two state championships and finished with a record of 205-50. Tuttle made the playoffs all 21 years. Tuttle will bring a ten game series winning streak into their rivalry with Newcastle in week 2. The Racers fought valiantly before falling 28-25 in 2013.
OFFENSE Taking over the head coaching reigns Brad Ballard brings his Multiple I Formation offense to Tuttle this season led by a massive offensive line. Chandler Anthony (6-7, 270, Jr.) leads that group of big men up front along with Kevin Osborn (6-3, 250, Sr.) and Brandon Mason (6-0, 245, Sr.) all of whom will be serious road graders for the Tigers this year. Quarterback Jet Jobe (6-2, 170, Sr.) will work behind the mammoth offensive line and make the Tigers a very balanced offensive unit. Jobe’s top target in the passing game this year will be small and speedy receiver Tate Odam (5-8, 145, Sr.). Competing in the very competitive ranks of District 4A-2 which also contains very strong teams in Ada and Glenpool the Tigers will need to be very productive on offense, not only scoring points but also controlling the clock, to be successful this season.
DEFENSE Working out of a 4-3 base defense the Tigers will count on a very strong front seven to lead the team this year. On the line Logan Johnson (6-1, 215, Sr.) and Anthony will both start at tackle. Meanwhile Dalton Cooper (510, 170, Jr.) will start at defensive end and bring a good deal of speed and athleticism to the edge. Jason Biddy (5-10, 185, Jr.) and Cale Smith (6-0, 190, Jr.) give Tuttle a solid pair of linebackers in the middle of the defense capable of not only coming up to stop the run but also dropping back into pass coverage. “We are going to be a very aggressive defense this year,” Ballard said. Overall the first-year head coach said he and his team are looking forward to the start of the season. “We are very excited to get the season started. This group of kids has been working very hard to improve and put themselves in a position to be successful,” Ballard said.

2009 - 7-4 2010 - 6-5 2011 - 5-5 2012 - 9-2 2013 - 12-1
OFFENSE Look for the Longhorns to run a fast-paced offense with multiple sets. Jacob Otey (6-1, Sr.) to figure heavily into the passing game as the teams go-to target downfield. Kyler Thornburg (5-9, Jr.) returns after rushing for 1,200 yards a year ago. Quarterback Dalton Alcorn (6-4, Jr.) will handle the rock for the Longhorns. Expect Alcorn and Thornburg to have major contributions offensively. Fullback Dalton Hefner (5-10, Jr.) is a tough load to bring down and should give the Longhorns a banger up the middle. Brayden Tanner (5-9, Sr.) could be one of the top blockers in the district. “We look to improve on last seasons 12-1 record,” said Brand.
DEFENSE “We’ll be a fast attacking defense that can adjust into different looks. We’ll be young but athletic,” said Brand. Kyle Garcia (5-10, Sr.) looks to make a difference at defensive end using his speed and quickness to get around the corner. Otey and Tanner give the Longhorns two tough linebackers that gobble up would be ball carriers. Brant Hines (5-10, So.) is young but will bring some athleticism to the nose guard position. Colt Beard (5-11, 200, Sr.) begins his 4th year as a starter at running back while the quartet of Brad Foster (6-2, 180, Sr.), Aaron Morrow (5-10, 150, Jr.), Craig Barnett (5-10, 175, Jr.) and Devin Rios (5-10, 185, Jr.) provide quick route pass catching skills at wide receiver. The offensive line will include size and strength with Jace Jones (6-3, 205, So.) at center while Ashton Powell (5-10, 175, Jr.) and Randy Harris (5-9, 195, Jr.) lineup at guard next to Josh Borski (6-3, 275, Sr.) and Holden Scott (6-2, 210, Sr.) at tackle.
DEFENSE Experience under the lights returns for the Redskins’ defensive unit including Holden Nichols, who enters the 2014 campaign with 17 pass interceptions during his three years as a starter. Adding to the experience factor in the secondary will be two year starter Devin Rios along with Craig Barnett and Aaron Morrow. After leading the tackle charts the last three years, Colt Beard returns at linebacker along with Jace Jones. The athleticism of Brad Foster at defensive end will pair up with Holden Scott to give strength to Rush Springs’ efforts to stop the run. “We got the chance to have a very good year,” said Beard, who begins his sixth season as head coach. “Our first goal is to win game one and then win the next one, and the next one. Quick Hits: The Warriors are the defending Class 4A state champions and enter 2014 with a 42-game regular season winning streak. Their last loss came in 2009 at Tuttle.
Anadarko has featured a high powered offense in recent times. The 2013 squad averaged 44.6 per game and allowed just 7 to their opponents. The Warriors have scored more than 50 points 18 times in their last 56 games. Anadarko defeated Clinton three times from 1951-2008. The series has taken a turn toward the competitive side with the Warriors beating the Reds three times since 2009. Last 5 Years: 2013 - 14-0, 2012 - 13-1 , 2011 – 15-0 2010 – 12-1, 2009 – 7-3
Brandon Pollard OFFENSE There is no doubt that the players and coaching staff for Anadarko expect to make a return trip to the
state championship game, where they have won the title twice in the past three years. With seven starters returning, the odds are once again in their favor. “We have a large class of seniors this year,” said head coach Kent Jackson. “Many of them will be three-year starters. They know how to win, and if we can stay healthy, we will have a great shot to make another deep run.” Seven starters return to run the spread offense and according to Jackson, this season’s Anadarko team will have a “balanced offense with the quarterback and top two wide receivers returning,” he said, and a “run game with four starters on the O-line returning. Two new faces at tailback, (Traymayne) Wauaudooah and (Louie) Farina, will platoon.” These returning players include quarterback Brandon Pollard (5-9, 170, Sr.), with 1,937 passing yards. Senior wide receivers making a return include Josh Parton (5-10, 160, Sr.) with 735 receiving yards and Brayden Alexander (5-10, 160, Sr.) with 492 receiving yards. As mentioned above, filling the cleats of last year’s running back, VYPE Mr. Football nominee R.J. Sink, will be tailbacks Traymayne Wauaudooah (6-2, 190, Sr.) with 307 rushing yards and Louie Farina (5-8, 170, Sr.). DEFENSE The Anadarko defense has a lot in common with its offense in that it also returns seven starters from last year’s squad. These include Traymayne Wauaudooah coming to the other side of the ball to play linebacker
and having 87 tackles. Josh Parton is another two-way player, who at defensive back had 41 tackles and five Traymayne Wauaudooah interceptions. Other key players include defensive end Malik Boardingham (6-4, 190, Sr.) with 83 tackles and 20 sacks; defensive end Kaden Jackson (6-2, 230, Jr.) with 48 tackles and 11 sacks; and Cody Sankadota (6-0, 230, Sr.) with 25 tackles and 7.5 sacks. Using a 4-4 defense, Jackson said the D-Line returns intact. Wauaudooah has several D-1 offers at linebacker. Boardingham also has college offers at deffensive end and is a very dominant pass rusher. Jackson also said that replacements needed include the free safety and middle linebacker positions.

OFFENSE The Comets need to replace quarterback Jacob Spady this season. One player that may have the upper hand on the position is Heston Liertie (5-7, 175, So.). Liertie was the backup to Spady last season. The offensive line could be the strength for the Comets as Ryan Kennedy (6-0, 280, Sr.), Caleb Sanderson (5-10, 275, So.) and Sam Roberson (6-1, 240, Jr.) all return for the Comets. A few new faces at several skill positions will be depended upon for big plays this season. Look for Cody Glass (6-0, 155, Sr.) and Skyler Hensley (5-9, 165, So.) to possibly be those guys.
DEFENSE Linebacker Kyler Vowell (5-10, 170, Sr.) returns and could be the starter in the middle. The secondary will feature several guys with speed but little experience. Roberson may go both ways with Zach Smith (5-11, 160, Jr.) playing linebacker and Blake Money (5-10, 155, Sr.) playing safety. Sept. 5 - vs. Watonga Sept. 12 - vs. Sayre

COACH: BRAD SPURLOCK ENROLLMENT: 62 Last 5 Years: 2009 - 5-5 2010 - 1-8 2011 - 4-6 2012 - 2-8 2013 - 6-5
OFFENSE Last season the Tigers made it to the Class C playoffs but were eliminated in the first round by powerhouse Sharon-Mutual. This year the Tigers are setting their sights even higher according to head coach Brad Spurlock. “We are looking to build on last year’s playoff appearance which was the first in quite some time. Just making the playoffs will not be good enough this year though. Now it is about winning multiple playoff games,” Spurlock said. The Tigers will rely on strong offensive line play this year led by guards Alex Spurlock (5-10, 186, Sr.) and Tyler Leiphardt (5-8, 181, Sr.). Both Spurlock and Leiphart may also see time at fullback this year depending on the situation. Center Jordan Gauntt (6-0, 224, Jr.) will also be a key figure on the Tigers’ imposing front line.
At the skill positions Ethan Spurlock (6-1, 170, Jr.) will start at quarterback after racking up 23 total touchdowns and nearly 1,500 total offensive yards. Tight end Blade Dirickson (5-10, 150, Sr.) will be a big target this year when Spurlock drops back to throw. DEFENSE On the defensive side of the ball the Spurlock brothers will head things up at linebacker where Ethan made 143 tackles last season and Alex chipped in 96. Alex may also spend some time at defensive end this year as Tate Wheatley (5-11, 151, Jr.) moves into a spot at linebacker. Leiphardt will also play a big role in the Tigers’ front five starting at defensive end opposite the eldest Spurlock. Dirickson rounds out a talented group of defensive players and will be a force in the secondary this season.

COACH: JOE ALLEN ENROLLMENT: 57 Last 5 Years: 2009 - 9-2 2010 - 9-2
2011 - 11-1 2012 - 6-5 2013 - 5-5
OFFENSE Coming into this season the Tigers are looking to great play from a strong offensive line to lead to a good amount of wins and hopefully a spot in the Class C playoffs. Leading that group of linemen will be center Brock Colfey (6-3, 285, Jr.) who sat out last season due to a medical issue. Guards Jake Doran (6-2, 215, Jr.) and Gerardo Rodriguez (5-9, 180, Jr.) will also play key roles up front for the Tigers. Tight end Marco Laguna (6-2, 170, Jr.) will be a big target in the Temple passing game after catching 12 touchdown passes last year to go along with 682 receiving yards. Running back Nick Rambo (5-9, 180, Sr.) will give the Temple offense balance this year by spearheading Temple’s rushing attack. DEFENSE Colfy and Doran will bookend the defensive line at the end positions this year giving the Tigers an athletic presence on the edges. In the middle of the defensive line Rodriguez will play nose guard trying to give Colfy and Doran chances to get off blocks and make plays. Last season Doran had 68 tackles and four sacks with Rodriguez adding 54 tackles and three sacks. In the secondary it will be up to Rambo and Laguna to lead the way at cornerback and safety. In 2013
WHO are YOU?
Rambo racked up 65 tackles and two interceptions while Laguna made 43 stops and added two picks of his own. “We will stick to our 3-2 base and should be more aggressive this year,” head coach Joe Allen said. COACH: William Dickey ENROLLMENT: 71 Last 5 Years: 2009 - 0-10 2010 - 0-8 2011 - 2-8 2012 - 4-5 2013 - 7-4
OFFENSE Like a runaway bus in Los Angeles the Grandfield Bearcats will have speed as their advantage. Keeping opposing defenses off balance and scoring points quickly is something head coach William Dickey Sr. expects from his offense. Mario Blanco (5-9, 175, Jr.) rushed for 1,139 yards and 20 touchdowns last season. He will be the featured back with Jahrod Lopez (5-8, 165, Jr.) giving the Bearcats another weapon and someone who can rack up big yards and score points. Braydn Fike (6-0, 185) accounted for over 1,100 yards of offense at quarterback. He’ll need Garrison Brown (6-0, 219, Jr.) to help some of the younger lineman along as the team replaces a couple of bodies up front.
DEFENSE The Bearcats will be quick to the ball and play an aggressive style of defense. Chris Allen (6-0, 180) is one of several defensive backs that bring a physical style of play to the field. Allen had three interceptions last year, while Brown notched 180 tackles as a linebacker. Blanco joins the defensive secondary after a 2013 campaign that witnessed him make 70 tackles and become a real force against the passing game. One weapon the team is ready to put into play is kicker Alex Barbosa (5-8, 170, Sr.). *No Schedule Provided. Please send schedule to Oklahoma@ VYPE.com and check back at VYPEOK.com
Lindsay Leopards Coach: JOHN INMAN Enrollment: 266 Last 5 Years: 2013 - 8-3 2012 - 8-4 2011 - 11-3 2010 - 8-4 2009 - 7-5
OFFENSE After going 8-3 last season under first-year head coach John Inman the Leopards are ready to pounce this season with eight starters back on offense. Dual-threat quarterback Jake Standridge (6-1, 170, Sr.) will be the main weapon for Lindsay this year. As a junior last year Standridge rushed for 566 yards and 12 touchdowns on 90 carries and threw for 2,117 yards and 22 touchdowns. Two of Standridge’s top targets this year will be receivers Garrett Verble (63, 180, Sr.) and Dru Brayton (6-1, 195, Jr.). Last year Verble caught 29 passes for 625 yards and three touchdowns while Brayton snagged 15 balls for 238 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Justin Walton (5-10, 215, So.) rushed for 699 yards and six touchdowns last year and will bring some balance to the Lindsay offense this season. “We will have good balance between the run and pass game. We have the ability to make explosive plays in the passing game as well as a good running game with our quarterback and running back,” Inman said.
DEFENSE According to Inman a big and explosive front seven along with an athletic and experienced secondary will be the key for the Leopards defense this year. On the defensive line nose guard Sammy Benard (6-5, 250, Sr.) and defensive end Morgan Downey (6-0, 235, Sr.) will lead the way. Last season Benard racked up 36 tackles and 10 sacks while Downey had 41 tackles and one sack. Behind the two big lineman linebackers Colton Taylor (5-10, 175, Jr.) and Brooks Brown (5-10, 220, Sr.) Both linebackers played big roles last year as well with 38 and 55 tackles respectively last year. Brown and Taylor also each had one interception last year with Brown also racking up three sacks. In the back end of the defense cornerback Eli Harrison (6-1, 175, Sr.) will be the team’s biggest weapon after making 21 tackles and picking off two passes last year. “I am excited about the potential of the upcoming season. We return a lot of playmakers and experience from last year,” Inman said. “We
will need some young players to step up and fill some voids but I believe we have the players to do so.”

OFFENSE The Dibble Demons need to replace a few key players in some skill positions. Senior Gregory Keesee (5-9, 190) could be the guy to slide into the starting role after the graduation of Tazden Jevons. Quarterback Braeden James appears to be back this season and with several weapons in his arsenal, James could have a big season for the Demons. Wide receivers Nathan Neidel, Tyler Waitman, Jadon Thomas and tight end Colton Durham could all see significant time on offense. Questions surround the offensive line, but it appears junior Travis Dodson, sophomore Caleb Tsotaddle and senior Matt Edwards all returning giving the Demons some experience up front. When this preview of the Dibble Demons was done, head coach Chad Stone was just getting settled in and was not able to provide much information
DEFENSE The defense will need several young players to step up and become every down starters this season. Corners Wyatt Hayes (Jr.) and Tyler Uhl (Jr.) can give the Demons defense two solid players in the secondary. Waitman can also step into the secondary for the Demons at corner or free safety. The Demons do have several linebackers on the roster including Ian Andrews (Jr.), Nick Hearon (60, 185, Sr.) and Nathan Rouse (Sr.). Other players to look for include Jacob England (Jr.), Colton Durham (So.) and Jadon Thomas (So.). Sept. 5 - vs. Minco Sept. 12 - vs. Rush Springs

OFFENSE “Our offensive line will be our strength. We will still base our offense out of the spread, but still look to run the ball and use the short passing game and screen game,” said head coach Clint Warren. Ry Schnieder (6-3, 300, Jr.) is a big reason coach Warren has confidence in his offensive line’s ability to open holes and protect in the passing game. Bryce Curtis (5-11, 235, Sr.) is a three-year starter at Minco and is another piece of the offensive puzzle. Quarterback Hunter Jones (6-1, 150, Jr.) threw for nearly 1,000 yards last year and is expected to have similar numbers this season thanks to guys like Asher Baade (6-0, 145, Sr.) at wide receiver.
DEFENSE Six starters return to the defensive side of the ball for the Bulldogs. Graduation did leave a couple of holes on defense, but senior Ringo Garret (5-9, 165) and junior Ryan Oaks (5-10, 244) return after accounting for nearly 100 combine tackles. Chase Singleton (6-4, 192, Jr.) will join Oaks on the line, while Jones and Baade will start in the secondary. “I’m excited to see what legacy this group of seniors will leave at Minco. Experience returns to the offensive line with veterans Dalton Dismuke (6-5, 275, Sr.), Kolten Anderson (6-3, 255, Sr.) and Hayden Moore (6-4, 285, Jr.) controlling play on the line of scrimmage. “How we’re able to control the battle upfront will give us more options on offense,” said Benson. “With their experience under pressure, those three guys give us the chance to be successful.” In the Demons’ 1-back gun offense, play at quarterback is paramount and the signal caller position has yet to be determined as Mason Hightower (6-0, 180, Sr.) and Conner Kinnaird (6-4, 205, Jr.) are in the midst of competition to be the starter. “Nothing has been decided,” said Benson. “Mason is a winner in everything he does and Conner’s talent ceiling is unlimited. Whoever wins the spot will have a big responsibility in what we do.” Duncan’s receiver unit has playmaking abilities including the versatility of Spencer Cagg (58. 200, Jr.) joining Dillan Seeberger (5-8, 160, So.) at wide receiver while Nathan Clark (6-2, 195, Jr.) is ticketed to handle chores at tight end along with Bryce Byford (5-9, 207, Sr.).

I’m excited to see what he does on Friday night.” DEFENSE The tradition of Duncan football will have a familiar feel in 2014 as legendary Demons coach Charles Lynch returns to the sidelines as defensive coordinator. marlow outlaws Coach: ROB RENSHAW Enrollment: 341 Last 5 Years: 2013 - 6-5 2012 - 4-7 2011- 1-9 2010 – 5-5 2009 - 3-7
OFFENSE With eight offensive starters returning expect the Outlaws to improve on their average of 32.5 points per game from a year ago. Heading up that group of returners is quarterback Braeden O’Dell (6-0, 170, Jr.). In 2013 O’Dell completed 60 of his 144 pass attempts for 750 yards and nine touchdowns and also rushed for 557 yards and seven touchdowns on 81 carries. One of O’Dell’s top targets this year will be receiver Zac Beasler (6-0, 175, Sr.), who caught nine passes for 138 yards in 2013. Marlow will also have a versatile weapon in the backfield in the form of fullback Beau Meshell (5-10, 180, Sr.). The offensive line is another place where the Outlaws will be very strong with center Hector Bullock (6-1, 230, Sr.) teaming with Riley Julian (6-1, 225, Jr.) to lead a group that contains four returning starters.
DEFENSE On the defensive side of the ball Marlow head coach Rob Renshaw said that his team will be very strong on the line and in the secondary but will need to find production from some younger linebackers in the middle. “We will have solid defensive line play with five players returning that saw significant time last year. Also our entire secondary returns but we must replace over 200 tackles from the linebackers,” Renshaw said. Heading up the talented group of linemen will be end Kris McCarley (6-2, 225, Sr.) and tackle Brandon Stallons (6-3, 230, Jr.). Meanwhile in the secondary fans will once again be able to find Nick Yates (5-9, 180, Sr.) and Logan Knox (5-10, 160, Sr.) starting at safety and cornerback respectively. In 2013 Yates made 77 tackles and Knox added 43 stops and four interceptions. The cupboard won’t be completely bare at the linebacker spots though with Meshell bringing his experience and 66 tackles from 2013 to the middle of the Outlaws’ defense. COACH: LEE BLUEJACKET
ENROLLMENT: 105 Last 5 Years: 2009 - 0-10 2010 - 0-10 2011 - 1-9 2012 - 1-9 2013 - 1-4
OFFENSE: Due to a lack of numbers, the Donkeys were forced to forfeit five of their games in 2013. Moving down to Class B this season, Bray-Doyle coach Lee Bluejacket is looking forward to being competitive in the eightman game for 2014 and with good reason. The Donkeys return five starters on the offensive side of the ball including three multi-position athletes. Cody Watson (5-10, 165, Sr.) and Devyn Davis (6-3, 210, Jr.) both saw action at quarterback last year. Watson also doubled as a wide receiver and Davis saw action at the running back position. Also in a dual offensive role was Dallas Lyles (5-7, 140, Sr.) who played both running back and receiver. A couple of good size offensive linemen will also buoy the offensive prospects of the Donkeys in Christian Bandy (6-2, 215, So.) and Austin Hall (60, 180, So.). Bluejacket is hopeful that this combination of versatility, experience, and size will help the Donkey’s spread option offense run up some offensive numbers. DEFENSE: With the same five starters anchoring the defense as well, Bluejacket says the Donkeys will be an aggressive, hard-hitting crew that will swarm to the football and tackle with ferocity. With the smaller numbers needed for eight man football and a good nucleus of returning players, Bray-Doyle has good reason to have some positive feelings going into the 2014 season, especially if they can get some supporting help from youngsters and if they can keep these five starters healthy for the most part. OFFENSE With a balanced offensive attack featuring multiple formations the Indians will be looking to improve on last year’s 2-7 overall record. Offensive linemen Mason Bowen (5-10, 214, Sr.) and Stony Mitchell (6-1, 185, So.) will be two important pieces of the puzzle for the Indians. Under center the Indians will feature Alex Hinshaw (5-11, 170, Sr.) while Wyatt Schoolfield (5-10, 175, Sr.) lines up at running back. Comanche’s chief playmaker on the outside will be receiver Braden Ledford (5-9, 145, Jr.). In a district that will include teams such as Plainview, Lone Grove, Madill, Marlow and Sulphur the Indians will need to see their offense perform well and put some ponts on the board if they hope to compete for a shot in the playoffs. DEFENSE On the defensive side of the football Comanche returns five starters and will run a 3-4 base defense. When asked what fans could expect from the Indians defense this year head coach Micah Mashburn answered simply “an aggressive and hard hitting unit.” Bowen will anchor the aggressive defense spending time both on the defensive line and at linebacker. Mitchell will also start at linebacker as a two-way player. On the defensive line Hunter Powell (6-2, 182, Sr.) is a player to watch at defensive end. Meanwhile in the secondary Wyatt Schoolfield (5-10, 175, Sr.) will team with Ledford to give the Indians a strong presence on the back end of the defense.

COACH: DUSTIN BEASLEY ENROLLMENT: 178 Last 5 Years: 2009 - 9-3 2010 - 4-6 2011 - 3-7 2012 - 4-6 2013 - 5-6
OFFENSE The Blue Devils return eight starters on offense and head coach Dustin Beasley is excited to get this bunch on the field. “The offense should be fun to watch. We will be able to run the ball inside and out with power and precision, while at the same time our passing game will be accurate in all phases. The offense will be explosive in all areas of the game,” said coach Beasley. Quarterback Tyler Beasley (6-1, 200, Sr.) is tasked with leading this exciting offense
Alex Hinshaw with so many players that have big play potential. Running back Reace Russell (5-8, 155, Sr.) has speed and a slippery style that gives opposing defenses fits. A trio of wide receivers give Beasley options in the passing game. Bridge Buffing (5-10, 155, Jr.), Colton Henson (5-9, 155, Jr.) and Dalton Ball (5-7, 140, Sr.) all posses speed and run sharp routes.
DEFENSE Andy Newman (5-10, 200, Sr.) starts at linebacker with Beasley playing on the other side. Newman plays quick to the ball and tackles with purpose. Ball and Henson will start in the secondary with junior Trevor Hileman (5-7, 150). In the 4-2-5 scheme having depth and experience in the secondary is important. “We will base out of the 4-2-5 and be led by some veteran players in our linebackers and defensive backs. Our defense will be tough on the run and stingy in the air,” said Beasley. “We hope to improve from last year. The district still has some tough competition in it and we hope to have a chance to compete at a very high level.” Sept. 5 - at Sayre Sept. 12 - vs. Central Marlow Sept. 19 - at Burns Flat-Dill City Sept. 26 - vs. Hinton Oct. 3 - vs. Carnegie Oct. 10 - at Mangum Oct. 16 - at Apache Oct. 24 - vs. Snyder Oct. 31 - vs. Empire Nov. 7 - at Hollis

Central Marlow Bronchos COACH: KEITH BURTON ENROLLMENT: 152 Last 5 Years: 2009 - 3-7 2010 - 7-4 2011 - 5-6 2012 - 7-4 2013 - 8-3
OFFENSE Last season the Bronchos only scored less than 24 points one time, their first round playoff loss to Class B state champ Pond Creek-Hunter. This season as the Bronchos move up to Class A they bring with them only four returning offensive starters. The good news for the Bronchos is that three of those four returning starters play on the offensive line. Brothers Cole Edens (6-4, 215, Sr.) and Sean Edens (6-1, 220, Jr.) are both back at tackle and center. Tristan Smith (6-0, 245, Sr.) is the other returning starter on the line at guard. The Bronchos other returning offensive starter this year is wide receiver Mikel Womack (5-9, 165, Sr.); who caught nine passes for 135 yards and four touchdowns last season. Other key offensive players for Central this year will be quarterback Joesph Flood (5-10, 150, Jr.) and running back Michael Mays (5-10, 160, Jr.). As the backup quarterback last year Flood completed all seven of his pass attempts for 178 yards and one touchdown while Mays ran for 266 yards and six touchdowns on 39 carries as the team’s backup running back.
DEFENSE On defense the Bronchos will return five starters giving them playmakers at every level. The line will once again be the strongest with the Edens brothers starting at the two end spots and Smith starting at defensive tackle. Last season Smith made 45 tackles and the Edens brothers combined for 74 more stops and four sacks. Chance Matheson (5-11, 170, Sr.) will start at linebacker for the Bronchos after compiling 69 tackles in 2013. Finally in the secondary Womack will start at safety lead the pack in the back end of the defense. After picking off four passes last season as a junior fans can expect Womack to once again make a large impact this year. COACH: TONY ROBERTS ENROLLMENT: 129 Last 5 Years: 2009 - 1-9 2010 - 5-6 2011 - 6-5 2012 - 7-4 2013 - 9-3
OFFENSE After reaching the second round of the Class A playoffs, as Empire strikes back with a talent laden roster eager to raise the bar to a higher level. The Bulldogs have a pair of VYPE Top 100 selections including Dillon Twigg (5-10, 175, Sr.) and Evan Whitt (5-9, 160, Jr.) among the offensive unit that returns five starters. With power and speed, Twigg raced to gain over 2,500 yards rushing and 30 touchdowns to lead Empire back to the postseason. “Dillon gives us everything everyday,” said head coach Tony Roberts. “His leadership plus playmaking abilities are a huge reason for our success.” Entering his third year in the lineup, Twigg has scored 50 times while totaling more than 3,500 yards rushing. Tanner Ford (6-3, 215, Sr.), who will move from tight end to quarterback, will have Evan Whitt (5-9, 160, Jr.) and Mark Robinson (5-7, 140) as primary targets to stretch the field when throwing the football while Rowdy Vinson (6-1, 210, So.) provides a possession receiver at tight end. Gage Pierce (5-9, 210, Sr.) who
Dillon Twigg
has started all four seasons will join three year starter Anthony Gonzalez to anchor the offensive line efforts along with Jacob Smith (6-1, 230, So.), Trey Nunez (5-9, 205, So.), Zach Lopez (6-1, 230, So.) and Geo Murillo (5-8, 230, So.). “We graduated three starters up front,” said Roberts. “With Gage and Anthony, we have proven experience and the others give us a physical plus.”
DEFENSE As a starter the past three seasons, Evan Whitt has totaled 17 interceptions during his career including 10 picks in 2013. “Evan’s versatility allows us to use him in a variety of positions,” said Roberts noting Whitt’s play at cornerback and strong safety where he made 49 tackles last season. With four starters in addition to Whitt, the Bulldogs expect to be solid. Pierce returns at linebacker to join a pair of talent rich sophomores Murillo and Nunez to create a “downhill pursuit” team that are also strong to the edge. Gonzalez returns to nose guard along with Ferman Diaz (5-7, 260, So.) at defensive tackle while Tre Sweetman (6-3, 205, So.) and Smith will lineup at end. Twigg and Cale Shriner (5-10, 150, So.) will handle the duties at safety while Whitt joins Robinson at cornerback to create a secondary with speed boundary to boundary. Empire’s schedule includes four of its first five games at home to benefit the development of younger players. “Patience with expectations is how we’ll enter this season,” said Roberts pointing to the young players in the lineup. “With the senior leadership and overall talent, we should be another solid team with eyes on the title in always tough district.”

OFFENSE The Comets enter 2014 with a new commander of the ship as Colt Allison takes over as head coach. Nine starters return from 2013 with a talent-rich backfield to skyrocket the running game. Sarian Smith (6-1, 165, Jr.), who averaged 6.8 yards per carry, tops the lineup alongside Ty Richardson (5-11, 195, Sr.), who returns for his third season at quarterback. Another threat in the run-oriented offense is Shilo Womack (5-10, 170, Jr.), who averaged 5.5 per attempt. Size and experience returns up front with three year starter Creede Wright (6-2, 295, Sr.) at tackle joining Jake McGuire (6-4, 235, Jr.) at tight end. “With a veteran offensive front and talented backs with good speed, we’re expecting big things from our running game,” notes Allison. DEFENSE Experience is a plus for the Comets’ defensive group with nine starters returning to the Comets 5-2 alignment. Evan Albertson (510, 195, Jr.), who topped the tackle chart with 100 stops last season, returns at middle linebacker along with Colby Martin (5-10, 145, Jr.) at the other linebacker. Defensive end Kelton Brown (6-2, 195, Sr.), who recorded six sacks and 78 tackles in 2013 will anchor the defensive line along with Alex Richardson (6-1, 230, Jr.) at tackle. Free safety Andrew McGuire (6-2, 165, Jr.) will captain the secondary unit. “We’re strong and athletic up front and the linebackers have a nose for the football,” said Allison. “As a team, we’ve got a tough bunch of kids with a mindset for success. VYPE caught up with Comanche head coach Micah Mashburn as the Indians prepare for the 2014 season. Coach Mashburn jumped in the hot seat to answer questions about the team, his background and the relationship between player and coach. VYPE: Coach, thanks for taking the time to hang out with us before the team gets too deep into preparation for the season. In your life, who has been the biggest influence on you? Mashburn: My parents and coaches. They taught me to do what’s right, how to act and always gave me the motivation that I needed to reach my goals. VYPE: Who are the coaches you’ve learned the most from in your coaching career? Mashburn: Brent Jones, Brent Southworth and my brother Chad Mashburn. They’ve taught me many different things from organization, player motivation, schemes, and lots of other great

advice. VYPE: How important is the relationship between player and coach? Mashburn: I think you have to have a close relationship with players. It’s important to get to know them outside of football. It brings out the “want to” in the player and coach. They want to play for you and you want to do anything to help them succeed. VYPE: Is community support an important part of a teams overall success? Mashburn: Yes. The community is one of our biggest supporters. Without them lots of things would not happen. As a player or coach you have to understand that you represent your community at all times. VYPE: What’s been the biggest surprise concerning the team this summer? Mashburn: We don’t have a lot of experience and we lack
football knowledge. VYPE: How important is it for you personally to lead this team to a successful season? Mashburn: I am one of the biggest competitors. I don’t like losing…I want to win…so it is very important to me, but success for us this year may not always be determined on the scoreboard. There are other things we need to fix first, then winning will take care of itself. VYPE: Who are some of the assistant coaches you have on staff this year that you expect to help you be successful? Mashburn: My assistant coaches are Bob Yadon (DC), Rusty Burton and Drew Wortham. VYPE: Thanks coach and good luck this season. Mashburn: Thank you.

Jennifer Kinnaird - Duncan Mom Jennifer Kinnaird, the mother of Duncan High School three-sport athlete Conner Kinnaird, is the Duncan Mom of the Month. Jennifer is also the mother of Carson Kinnaird who will be an eighth grader this year and is also a three-sport athlete. Both Kinnaird boys play football, baseball and wrestle and this fall Conner will be competing for the starting quarterback job while also playing linebacker on defense. Conner had great things to say about his mom and the type of person that she is. “She is always there for anybody who needs her. Anybody can go to her for anything and she will do all she can to help,” Conner said. “She is just a great person in general. Anytime anybody needs her she is there.” Conner went on to say that his mother also volunteers to help the Duncan sports teams any way she can either by being a member of the booster club or by helping to organize and provide meals to the team on road trips. “She is great. I’m pretty proud to have a mom like her,” Conner said.

had to narrow your choice down to three schools that you visited which ones would that be? Bullock: They would have to be SNU (Southern Nazarene University), OBU (Oklahoma Baptist University), and MSU (Midwestern State University). That’s in no order whatsoever. Yates: I would have to say the same: OBU, SNU, and MSU in no particular order. We really are patiently waiting and seeing what happens.
VYPE: If you could give advice to younger athletes that are hoping to have the opportunity to play college athletics what would you say?
Nick Yates and Hector Bullock Marlow Outlaw senior football players Nick Yates and Hector Bullock took a break from college recruiting visits and summer workouts to talk to VYPE about the upcoming football season. The 12th ranked Outlaws are early favorites to win 3A-4. VYPE: How difficult is it to prepare and get yourself back in the routine to play football?
Yates: Any sport you play, there is always a different level of difficulty. That’s why it’s important to show up, push your limits, push your teammates, stay positive, and have faith. I believe everything in sports and in life is all mental. So push your mind and the body will follow. Bullock: The hardest part about football is getting mentally prepared. The physical part will take care of its self during practice. VYPE: What does it mean to be a senior and a team leader?
Yates: Being a senior is shocking, since it came so fast. But I have prepared myself for the coming season and I believe I have to continue to improve and be an example. Not just by being a football player, but by being a Christ follower on the field, the weight room, the classroom, and everywhere I go. To be a role model to the younger players and to the other seniors. I’m blessed to be in a leadership position. God is good.
Bullock: To me it means that this is the year I’ve been waiting for. I’ll be one of the guys that the underclassmen are looking up to. Being a team leader is something that is earned by doing the right things and showing it by my actions.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for this season, and the goals you would like to see the team accomplish? Yates: For the season, go out there and play my heart out with no regrets and give it all back to God. For the team, get a gold ball (state championship) give all the glory to God, and just have fun, man. Bullock: My personal goals for this season are to do my best and get seen by as many college coaches as possible. For the team I would like to see us come together and be a brotherhood on the field. VYPE: What’s the funniest moment you can remember from your high school career?
Yates: Our sophomore year playing Lone Grove, Kelby Richardson made a sweet catch, falling out of bounds, gets up real fast and had a cramp in his thigh and yelled,”Coach, I got shot” as he fell.
VYPE: Since the districts have been realigned whom do you think will be the toughest competition in District 4 this season? Yates: Probably Plainview.
Bullock: The toughest competitor will have to be Plainview. VYPE: Is there any certain team that you really can’t wait to face?
Yates: Keep working hard, throw your name out there, but stay humble. Never stop chasing your dreams and have faith that God will provide.
Bullock: It’s going to take a lot of hard work. That means waking up early, not skipping any days, and not feeling sorry for yourself. VYPE: If you could dedicate your senior season to anyone who would that be?
Yates: Our close friend Jose Miranda from Empire who was like part of my family, besides playing every sport together in elementary school, he spent a lot of time at my house growing up and was like a brother. He isn’t with us now, but I know he would be proud of us and his memory will be remembered by not only Hector and I but several of the friends we all grew up with that play sports like Dillon Twigg and Anthony Gonzalez from Empire, Jerad Wolfe, Boston Brown, and Daniel Flores from Duncan. We know he is in a better place because he’s with God. But he will never be forgotten. Bullock: Definitely this season will be dedicated to our great friend Jose Miranda that both Nick and I grew up playing little league football with. He recently passed away and football was everything to him. I’ll be giving everything I have this season in honor of him.
Yates: Comanche it’s a rivalry game.
Bullock: I really cannot wait to play Sulphur. Every year that we face them it’s always a blood bath to get the victory. VYPE: The two of you have been invited and went on several college recruiting visits together over the summer, if you

Nathan Crowson Marlow senior Nathan Crowson is the Marlow Athlete of the Month. Crowson is a 4.0 student who participates in cross country, basketball, and track. He is also involved in National Honor Society, FCA, and is a member of Marlow First Baptist Church and attended Falls Creek over the summer. Some of the highlights of his high school career include winning the team state championship in track, being on the state championship 4X800 relay team, and finishing fourth in the mile and two-mile at the state track meet. His hobbies include watching movies, swimming, snowboarding (when possible), basketball, volleyball, ping-pong, and reading God’s word. His goals for his senior year include a top five state championship finish in cross country, make the state tournament in basketball, and win individual and state championships in track. A verse of the Bible that motivates him is Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, do with all your heart, as if done for the Lord and not man.”
Shayna Throckmorton Marlow senior, and three-sport athlete Shayna Throckmorton, is the Marlow Female Athlete of the Month.
Throckmorton starts at first base in softball where she helped lead the Outlaws to a state semi-final finish as a junior. She also plays varsity basketball and starting at center. During her high school career, Shayna has found success in track as well. She finished as a state finalist as a sophomore and junior in the shot put. Besides sports, Throckmorton attends Marlow First Baptist Church where she is involved with the youth and also attended Falls Creek over the summer. She is also a member of FCCLA. Throckmorton enjoys family time and spending weekends at the Red River riding off-road vehicles. She credits her father for inspiring her. “My dad pushes me a lot, but only because he wants me to be the best I can be.” When asked about her goals heading into her senior year, Throckmorton had this to say, “Over the summer I played summer ball to help prepare me for this upcoming softball season. After qualifying and making it to the semifinals in softball last year, I believe we realized as a team we were only a few errors away from taking state. If we fix the small mistakes we made last year everything else will fall into place. But regardless of the final outcome, everything I’ve done and will do in the future I will continue to give God all the glory.”

OFFENSE Altus head coach Jeremy Reed is ready to bring the Bulldogs back to a winning tradition, using the flexbone triple option as a means to get there. “I’m very excited about taking over this tradition-rich program,” said Reed. “We have won 20 district titles; that’s something to use and be proud of. We have a great mix of experience and upcoming youth.” With 10 returning starters, some of the key players to run the flexbone include running back T.J. McGill (6-0, 205, Sr.). McGill has had an excellent offseason and has impressed the coaching staff in scrimmages. Wide receiver Jose Martinez (5-9, 170, Sr.) caught 24 balls for 272 yards and two touchdowns last season. Running the flexbone for coach Reed is quarterback Tanner Cross (63, 180, Sr.). Cross saw limited action last year, but still put up respectable numbers. They will all benefit from a solid offensive line that features Jonathon Delzer (6-0, 240, Sr.). These players are considered “weapons to keep defenses honest,” said Reed.

The Bulldogs do have some underclassmen that need to mature and become starters on this team if they hope to become a playoff contender. DEFENSE Altus will run the 3-4 defense this fall. Primarily, this defense will rest on the shoulders of starters such as linebacker Aaron Rodgers (5-8, 180, Sr.). Rodgers recorded 39
tackles and forced one fumble last year. His plays will set the tone for the Bulldogs defense. Setting a tone of his own is linebacker Shannon Ybarra (6-0, 190, Jr.) who notched 26 tackles last season and compliments Rodgers at linebacker. The pair will create problems for opposing offenses all season long. Defensive back Jayden Benway (5-10, 165, Jr.) had two interceptions last year to go with his 20 plus tackles. Benway
will shore up one side of the field, while Tyler Phillips (5-9, 175, Sr.) will lock down the other. Also look for linebacker Baylor Feller (5-11, 200, Jr.) to have an impact on the defense. Reed describes this defense as “aggressive, athletic and hungry.” “We have many hybrid-type players that fit our multiple 3-4 scheme. We expect to make huge strides on defense compared to 2013.”
Altus Cheer Looking for Return to State
Coach Candace McMahan finished up a practice in early August and took a few minutes to answer a few questions about the upcoming competition season, the squad and what it takes to compete at a high level.
VYPE: How excited is the squad to get back to practice after a trip to state last year? McMahan: We are very excited about this year’s competition. Last year we competed with 15 and this year we have a full squad of 20. We have nine returning members, and two returning from their freshman year.
VYPE: Who do you have on the squad this year? McMahan: Returning seniors Caroline Quam, Shyanne Tate, Lana Spandley and two came back after they cheered their freshman year: Kristen Kendrix, Ashtin Colson. We also added new senior Cierra Golden. Then we have returning junior
Sarah Robinson. Our returning sophomores are Jewel Whilmany, Abby Tucker, Addy Hughes, and Kinsey Wilmes. New freshman Chloe Cox, Jaycee Herring, Jayden Nolan, Kinsley Moore, KyLeigh Davis, Lily Draper, Aliegha Padgett, London Williams, Summer Locon, Annalisa Harrell, and Lynsey Sellers round out the squad.
hired a tumbling coach Chris Nettles from Lawton. He comes to work with the girls once a week and we have already seen so many gains. We hired Evan Tims, a choreographer for our routine this year; she’s also from Altus. Jenna Bass is a former Altus cheerleader who volunteers her time to help out two times a week. Our town is our biggest sponsor. They buy our shirts we sell and anything else. The Altus community loves their cheerleaders!
VYPE: How difficult is the routine this year? McMahan: Our routine is packed with many difficult skills that the girls have been working hard all summer to accomplish. We are very confident we will be moving to the next level of state and hoping for that regional win!
VYPE: Who else do you have helping out this year? McMahan: Kaylee Thornbrough is the freshman coach and we both attended coaches’ clinic this year where we learned lots of different techniques for making our jumps better. We have also

Tipton Tigers COACH: TRAVIS WHITE ENROLLMENT: 80 Last 5 Years: 2009 - 9-3 2010 - 10-2 2011 - 11-3 2012 - 14-0 2013-12-1
OFFENSE After finishing as state runner-ups in 2011, and then winning the Class C title in 2012, the Tigers finished as state runner-ups last year and are once again setting their sights on competing for a state championship game this year according to head coach Travis White. “Expectations are high in Tipton but that is the norm here,” White said. With five starters returning to the offensive side of the ball Tipton will have a good amount of experience to lean on to accomplish those goals this year. Quarterback Gerald White (5-7, 165, Sr.) is back for one more run at a gold ball after racking up 2,047 all-purpose yards last season. Running back Bryant Flores (6-0, 170, Sr.) will also play a large role again this year after rushing for 1,324 yards last year. Terence Rushing (5-10, 205, Jr.) will also occupy a spot in the offensive backfield this year and offer a more powerful downhill running aspect to the Tigers offense. Listed as an athlete, versatile weapon Jagger Jones (5-7, 150, Sr.) could become the x-factor to a Tipton title run after compiling 413 all-purpose yards in 2013. Last but not least Cayden Crume (5-7, 205, Sr.) will bring strong leadership to the Tipton offensive line. DEFENSE In the Tigers’ 3-5 base defense play on the defensive line will be key and that is where you can find Royce Bernal (5-10, 170, Sr.) playing defensive end and Trenton Smith (5-7, 245, Jr.) starting at nose guard. Last season Bernal was a dominating force making 76 tackles, eight tackles for loss and recording 11 sacks. Smith meanwhile made 23 tackles last year as a sophomore and will be looking to improve those numbers this year. At linebacker Rushing, who made 93 tackles, nine tackles for loss and also had two interceptions, will be another key playmaker on the Tipton defense. In the secondary White and Flores will both make their presence known starting at safety and cornerback. In 2013 White made 85 tackles 42

Frederick Bombers
Coach: BRETT WHITE Enrollment: 235 Last 5 Years: 2013 - 4-7 2012 - 13-1 2011 - 10-2 2010 - 8-3 2009 - 5-5
OFFENSE Bomber football is a proud program that has a renewed interest in its own past. A recent documentary on the 1955 team has the community hungry for more Bomber football. Head coach Brett White enters his first season at Frederick and takes over a team that returns five starters from last year’s squad. White will enjoy having track stars Jesus Ramos (6-3, 180, Sr.) at wide receiver and Deyone Miller (5-8, 150, Jr.) at running back. The pair was on the state champion 4X400 state relay team for Frederick. Jaylen Randle (6-0, 170, Sr.) will have his chare of carries in the multiple set offense coach White will run this season. Leading the offensive attack is quarterback Tarren Flores (5-11, 165, Sr.). The senior will give the Bombers a run/pass threat and will make plays happen with his ability to scramble. The offensive line is a strength for the Bombers this season. Frank Maldonado (6-0, 220, Sr.) and Xavier Harper (6-1, 220, Sr.) have the task of moving the offensive line and making holes for the running game. Two challenges the offensive line embraces. Coach White will need more time to evaluate the talent and determine what players fit in what positions, but overall the Bombers have the talent to make some noise in a very tough 2A-3 district. DEFENSE With multiple fronts and blitz packages expected from the Bomber defense, players like Cory Miller (6-2, 240, Sr.) on the line are licking their chops to get after the quarterback. Joining Miller up front is James Gaitan (6-1, 235, Jr.), another defensive lineman
that attacks with speed and puts pressure up the middle of the offensive line. Angel Castaneda (5-11, 180, Sr.) could start at defensive end with Mario Ibarra (5-11, 180, Jr.) playing the other spot. The pair should contain the edge and kick everything inside for the linebackers. The secondary will feature Cody Rogers (5-10, 170, Sr.) and Faith Cardoso (5-9, 165, Jr.) at safety. Overall the defense could be the strength of the team early on. A few new faces at linebacker could determine where this team ends up finishing in district. COACH: ROBERT BABCOCK ENROLLMENT: 148 Last 5 Years: 2009 - 5-5 2010 - 4-6 2011 - 2-8 2012 - 5-6 2013 - 1-9
OFFENSE With 10 starters coming back on the offensive side of the ball one major strength for the Cyclones this year will be experience. The team’s other big strength according to head coach Robert Babcock will be their overall quickness as a team. In order to take advantage of that quickness the Cyclones will operate out of several spread formations this year. Cole White (6-0, 200, Jr.) and Treyvon Gottens (5-9, 150, Jr.) will both see time at quarterback this year for the Cyclones. While not at quarterback White will use his strength at the fullback position while Gettens will move to tailback when not under center. Another key figure in the offensive backfield will be tailback Dezmond Crowder (5-8, 163, Jr.). Snyder will also have a stable of talented pass catchers including tight end Dylan Flinn (5-9, 200, Sr.) and receivers Jake Ayers (6-3, 180, Sr.) and Gady Higginbotham (6-0, 160, Sr.). DEFENSE All of the players mentioned as key players on the offense will also be key players on the Snyder defense as well. Flinn and Ayers will both spend time on the
defensive line while White will start at linebacker. Flinn will also spend some time at linebacker this year depending on what formation the Cyclones line up in. In the defensive backfield Crowder, Higginbotham and Gettens all bring a wealth of speed to the back end of the defense. Other key players to watch for in the Snyder lineup this year will be Zack Melton (6-0, 195, Sr.), Chaz Lindsay (5-10, 184, Sr.), Gaven Fields (5-10, 135, Jr.), Nathan Long (6-1, 260, Sr.), Jacob Edgar (6-0, 198, Sr.) and Kyle Froelich (5-9, 211, Sr.). “We have a lot of work to do in our program but we have some kids that seem dedicated,” Babcock said. “We have a group of juniors and seniors that have a strong dedication to the program and we could surprise some people if we stay healthy. Contending for a playoff spot in our district will not be easy but it isn’t beyond what our team is capable of.” Sept. 5 – at Central Marlow Sept. 12 – vs. Burns Flat Sept. 19 – at Walters Sept. 26 – at Carnegie Oct. 3 – vs. Mangum Oct. 10 – at Apache Oct. 16 – OPEN Oct. 24 – at Cordell Oct. 31 – vs. Hollis Nov. 7 – vs. Hinton

Coach: BILL DALKE Enrollment: 231 Last 5 Years: 2013 - 7-4 2012 - 5-5 2011 - 3-7 2010 - 7-4 2009 - 4-7
OFFENSE The Bearcats graduated 13 starters from last year team, but head coach Bill Dalke is excited about the young squad he has for 2014. After his first season as the Bearcats head coach, Dalke believes his kids are more comfortable in his system. “Last year was our first year in this system,” Dalke said. “While we did graduate a lot of kids, we are a year into this system and feel the kids should have a better grasp of it.” Dalke expects his young team to perform at a high level. “We expect great effort and even better execution,” Dalke stated. The Bearcats will run a hybrid flex bone with wing T tendencies at times. “We will use our run to set up our pass,” Dalke said. Teams must respect the Bearcats quarterback Kellen Smith (6-1, 175, Jr.) legs and arm. Leading the way upfront for Hobart is three-
year starter Colton Sims (5-11, 195, Sr.).
DEFENSE The scheme will remain the same for the Bearcats on defense, sticking with the 3-4. Dalke believes the 3-4 scheme works best in Class 2A. “In 2A we see a mix of spread and run orientated teams,” Dalke said. We feel like this defense gives us the most flexibility to bring pressure from a lot of places.” Only four starters return on defense, but coach Dalke is optimistic. “We are excited about the great group of young kids we have coming up,” Dalke said. Aaron Hernandez (5-10, 215, Sr.) will have a huge role at middle linebacker getting the young squad in the correct places. Paxton McCormick (5-11, 160, Sr.) returns at safety for the third straight season. “He is the quarterback of the defense,” Dalke said. “He helps us get lined up and adjusts our formations against spread teams.” Sept. 5 - vs. Mangum Sept. 12 - vs. Cache Sept. 19 - at Alva Sept. 26 - at Hollis Oct. 3 - vs. Washington Oct. 10 - at Walters Oct. 16 - vs. Lindsay Oct. 24 - vs. Dibble Oct. 31 - at Frederick Nov. 7 - at Lexington

OFFENSE Offensively the Tigers will run a spread attack relying on their ability to create space to get playmakers in positions to be successful. Quarterback Kade Wendt (5-11, 165, Jr.) has the talent to be the team’s signal caller and can move to wide receiver if the situation calls for it. Colby Hamlett (5-10, 165, Jr.) may be the team’s best all-around athlete. Hamlett can line up anywhere on the field and be a threat to take it to the house. Dawson Henry (6-1, 210, So.) and Rhett Bull (6-0, 175, Sr.) are two tough players coach Mazey will depend on for leadership on the line. Markus Edmonds (5-9, 200, Sr.) is another player to watch for the Tigers up front.
DEFENSE “We will change away from the 3-4 to a 4-3 look this fall. I want us as a team to focus on the fundamentals of defense, play gap sound football, make some tackles and limit the big plays,” said Mazey. Hamlett and Wendt will patrol the defensive secondary, while Christian Ochoa
(5-9, 195, Jr.) gets the nod on the line. Ochoa can use his quickness off the ball to pierce the offensive line and cause problems for opposing quarterbacks. Jacob Lopez (5-8, 170, Sr.) starts at linebacker as coach Mazey and the staff will look to younger players to fill key positions. COACH: Scott Martin ENROLLMENT: 171 Last 5 Years: 2009 - 6-4 2010 - 6-5 2011 - 5-6 2012 - 1-8 2013 - 3-6
OFFENSE Head coach Scott Martin takes the helm this year looking to lead the Eagles to the playoffs after a brief coaching stint in Johnson City Kansas. Before coaching in Kansas Martin was the head coach of the Wyandotte Bears where he had a good amount of success.
Despite the coaching change, fans of the Eagles will see a team with a lot of returning faces on the gridiron this year. Last season’s quarterback Jason Holmes was just a starter last season and may be expected to do even more this year as a junior. Other skill players Eagles fans may see a lot of this year are senior Skyler Tosh and junior Josh Silk. DEFENSE On defense fans of the Eagles are likely to see many of the same key players from the offense making even more plays on defense. Silk, Tosh and Holmes all have the capability to wreak havoc on opposing offenses from the secondary both by defending the pass or coming up to make plays against the run. Overall the Eagles will be looking to improve on their average of 37 points allowed per game this year as they compete in a very competitive district with offensive powers such as Stroud, Fairview and Mooreland. Lady Bulldogs Poised to Build on the Foundation of 2014 Last year the Altus softball team finished with an overall record of 15-21 after losing back-to-back games against Chickasha in the regional tournament. Even though the team finished just under .500 for the year there were several positives that emerged especially late in the season.
Arguably the team’s four most key wins came in the second half of the season as they knocked off Noble, Cheyenne, Thomas and Mangum. Those four wins helped the Lady Bulldogs go 6-8 in their final 14 games after they began the year 9-13. Another big positive the Bulldogs will be trying to lean on this year will be fact that although they allowed an average of 6.02 runs per game last year that number fell to 5.6 over the final 14 games of the season.
When looking at things to improve this year the Lady Bulldogs will look squarely at their record in close games. Altus went 3-7 in games decided by two runs or less last season a stat that should definitely see a major upswing this year. With a season that opens up with Noble, Lawton MacArthur. Duncan, Del City and a competitive Olustee Tournament the Lady Bulldogs will be tested early but will also have several chances to pick up wins early in the season, something they also did last year starting the season by winning four of their first six games. Altus will however compete in a very tough district that includes powerhouses Chickasha, MacArthur and Duncan who all qualified for the Class 5A state tournament a year ago leaving no doubt that

My dad and my uncles played college football and that’s something I would like to do after I graduate high school.” Jayden and the Bulldogs have worked
hard this summer in preparation for the upcoming season. “We’ve gotten a lot better fundamentally in the way we do things,” said Jayden. “If I could tell my teammates one thing it would be that we need to forget about what happened last year and look to the future because we have a lot of talent and a great coaching staff. There is no reason we shouldn’t go deep into the playoffs this year.” For his commitment to Altus High School, his teammates and his desire for success, Jayden Benway is the Altus Athlete of the Month.

while Larren Hill (6-4, 170, Sr.) starts at outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme. “Teams will be after us in 2014. We will have to be ready each week,” said Box. Expect the Tigers to take everyone’s best shot and still come out as a playoff team. Another undefeated season will be tough, but coach Box and the Tigers are up for the challenge.
Macias (5-9, 185, Sr.) and Holden Gollihare (6-1, 180, Sr.) bring good acceleration and quickness to the position. Macias rushed for 1,428 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. Gunner Ewing (5-9, 180, Jr.) is a multi-position player that coach Box can use at running back or quarterback. Ewing had 119 carries for 787 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2013.

OFFENSE Head coach Reade Box understands that every team they play this year will step their game up to defeat the defending state champs. The Tigers return six starters on the offensive side of the ball that want to repeat and leading the way is quarterback Khalil Johnson (6-0, 170, Sr.). Johnson has plenty of weapons to help him move the ball down field. Running backs Keegan
DEFENSE Rickey Bell (6-1, 175, Sr.) notched 100 tackles and two interceptions last year as an outside linebacker. Macias will also start at linebacker for the Tigers. Macias had 186 tackles to lead the team. Nose guard Jace Webb (6-5, 300, Jr.) is a force inside and uses his hustle and momentum to force turnovers for the opposing offense. OFFENSE Scoring points was a tough task for the Tigers during the 2013 season. Duke averaged 12.6 points per contest. However, the Tigers exploded for 62 points in a
season-ending 62-34 victory over Gracemont. Now Duke will hope quarterback Nic Graham (5-10, 215, Sr.) can lead the offense to several more offensive explosions in 2014. Other offensive weapons include tight ends Kolyn Farmer (6-2, 215, Sr.) and Paul Hennessey (5-11, 180, Jr.). Providing the blocking will be Garrett Earls (6-0, 230, Jr.) at guard and Berritt Strawn (6-0, 230, Jr.) at center. DEFENSE Head coach Mike Harris has a promising outlook for his defense this season. “A powerful, disciplined front able to set and control the edges, matched with a physical secondary,” Harris said. Leading the charge will be two-way players in Farmer and Hennessey. They’ll receive help from safety Kory Famer (5-11, 160, Jr.) and tackle Brandon Mayo (5-11, 240, So.). Looking for More Gold This Fall Before 2013 Hollis had never won a state title in football. The school that boasts Darrell Royal as an alum was still seeking that elusive Gold Ball before head coach Reade Box’s team went 14-0 and claimed the Class A title with a 29-12 victory over Ringling.
The Tigers worked their way to the title game with a smothering defense and a smashmouth rushing attack. Hollis posted five total shutouts on the season, four of which came in the team’s first five games. Overall the Tigers allowed an average of just 7.2 points per game while scoring an average of 45.7 points a game. Leading the offense was senior running back Carlos Herrera who ran for 1,155 yards and 19 touchdowns on 153 carries. Junior Keegan Macias and sophomore Gunnar Ewing also both made huge contributions to the run game as well. Macias picked up 976 yards and seven touchdowns on 87 carries while Ewing chipped in 459 yards and nine touchdowns on 85 carries.
Meanwhile in the passing game Ewing threw for 721 yards and 11 touchdowns while junior Khalil Johnson threw for 361 yards and five touchdowns in just eight games. Many of those passes went to senior Tyler Bess who caught 37 passes for 756 yards and seven touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball Herrera and Bess led the team in tackles with 11 and 110 stops apiece. Senior Will Estes also was a major factor on the defensive side of the ball making 91 tackles and eight sacks. Macias was third on the team in tackles recording 104 total stops. In the secondary Ewing made his presence felt with 42 tackles and four interceptions.
This season with another championship in their sights the Tigers will turn to Ewing at quarterback while Macias and Holden Gollihare start in the backfield. Meanwhile on defense Ricky Bell, Macias and Jace Webb, a D-I prospect, will be the team’s biggest leaders.

Quick Hits: The Tigers have made five consecutive appearances in the playoffs. They last posted a double-digit win season in 2005, going 12-1 losing to Bixby in the Class 5A semifinals. Gainesville, Texas returns to the schedule after a one-year hiatus. Gainesville beat Ardmore 27-8 in 2012. The Tigers travel to Texas to face the Leopards in week three. Gainesville’s one and only loss last year came in the Class 3A-Division 2 regional round to Gladewater.
Ardmore and Ada have opened the season against each other going all the way back to 1986. Ardmore won last year’s meeting in Ada 36-21. Last 5 Years: 2013 - 8-3 2012 - 5-6 2011 – 8-5 2010 – 6-5 2009 – 4-7

will add some experience and help ease Wendel’s mind this year. Clay Atwood (5-11, 170, Jr.) will take the snaps from Nicholas at quarterback. As the chief decision maker in the Tigers’ offense Atwood will have several weapons to work with including running back OJ Warren (5-8, 165, Jr.), receiver Buddy Johnson (5-10, 160, Jr.) and fullback Kedrick Knox (5-10, 175, Jr.). DEFENSE On the defensive side of the ball the Tigers have two defensive backs in Kevi McKee (5-10, 170, Sr.) and Keyshawn Brown (6-1, 175, Sr.) who will start at cornerback and frustrate opposing receivers. Other key players on the Ardmore defense this year will be sophomore Nick Welden and junior Sam Ruhl according to Wendel. “Newcomers Welden and Ruhl should have a positive impact. Both our corners should play in college. We will be inexperienced but we have good speed and will improve throughout the season,” coach Wendel said. Overall coach Wendel said he is excited about the upcoming season. “I am looking forward to another challenging schedule. We are blessed with some speed, but the key will be how we gel together and if we can stay healthy.”

Coach: CHRIS BERUS Enrollment: 389 Last 5 Years: 2013 - 13-1 2012 - 9-3 2011- 9-4 2010 – 8-4 2009 – 8- 3
OFFENSE Running a Jordan Rickets Flexbone style offense last season the Indians had a running back/quarterback combo in Austin Carrera and Taber Jordan rush for nearly 2800 yards. Both Carrera and Jordan graduated in May, but that won’t stop Plainview coach Chris Berus from trying to lead his team back to the Class 3A playoffs and hopefully improve on their semifinals appearance from last season. Leading the way for the Plainview offense this year will be running back Jordan Rickets (5-11, 170, Sr.), who ran for 236 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries last season. Fellow running back Chris Hamilton (5-9, 205, Sr.) will help to take some of the load off of Rickets back this season as he gives the Indians a bigger presence in the backfield. At receiver the Indians will feature Steven Roberts (5-11, 165, Sr.) who caught 12 passes for 294 yards and four touchdowns last year. Of course no Flexbone offense can be effective without a strong presence up front on the offensive line. That is where Plainview fans can find unsung heroes like Dylan Marr (5-10, 235, Jr.) and Cody Steele (6-2, 205, Sr.) doing all they can to clear a path for Plainview’s talented ball carriers. DEFENSE On the defensive side of the ball fans can expect many of the same faces that key the offense to also drive the defense. Hamilton will spearhead the Indians attack after making 103 stops last year from his linebacker position. Broc Berus (6-0, 185, So.) will also play a big role as a linebacker after making 30 tackles last season as a freshman. The Indians will also have two playmakers in the secondary in the form of Roberts and Rickets. Roberts, who will start at corner made 38 tackles last season and picked off three passes while Rickets starts at safety where he made 51 tackles and intercepted one pass last year. Coach Berus said that the Plainview defense this year will be a team who not only plays physical but also pursues the ball well. Overall Berus said he expects his team to be playing their best football when it matters most. “We will be a young team starting out the season, but by the time we get to the district portion of our schedule we will be battle-tested and ready to play our best football,”
Berus said. Schedule: Sept. 5 – at Sanger Texas Sept. 12 – vs. Pauls Valley Sept. 19 – at Clinton Sept. 26 – vs. Douglass Oct. 3 – at Lone Grove Oct. 10 – at Dickson Oct. 16 – vs. Comanche Oct. 24 – vs. Marlow Oct. 31 – at Sulphur Nov. 7 – vs. Madill

Tyler Sharp (5-4, 135, Jr.) returns at quarterback to run the Wing T this season. Last season the Badgers relied on Edgar Gonzales to take the majority of the carries at running back. With Gonzales graduated this year they will spread the carries out between a few running backs. Cole Ratchford (5-8 165, Sr.) will receive carries along with Derrick Medford (5-10, 190, Jr.). The two running backs explode through made by the Badgers massive offensive line. DEFENSE The Badgers will have a new look on defense this season switching from the 4-4 to a 5-2 scheme. Jeremy Sawyer (5-10, 220, Sr.) returns at middle linebacker for the third straight season. Sawyer gets everyone in line on defense and calls out the adjustments to opponent’s offenses. The Badgers are happy to have cornerback Curt Richardson (6-2, 180, Sr.) back after he suffered a broken collarbone last season. The injury kept Richardson sidelined for five games. In the five games Richardson played he brought in five interceptions. Having Richardson back will make opposing quarterbacks think twice before they throw his way, The Badgers head coach Sam Sharp expects his squad to have a solid year. “We return eight starters on both sides of the ball,” Sharp said. “I think we should have the opportunity to get back into the playoffs.” Sept. 5 - at Empire Sept. 12 - vs. Marietta Sept. 19 - at Velma-Alma Sept. 26 - at Community Christian Oct. 3 - vs. Lexington Oct. 10 - vs. Wayne Oct. 16 - vs. Wynnewood Oct. 24 - at Stratford Oct. 31 - at Konawa Nov. 7 - vs. Minco

Last 5 Years: 2009 - 8-3 2010 - 7-4 2011 - 6-5 2012 - 5-6 2013 - 5-5 OFFENSE Offensively the Bulldogs appear to have the building blocks of a solid team. Chaz Carr (6-2, 200, Sr.) rushed for 380 yards and six touchdowns despite missing six games due to some broken ribs. Quarterback Caleb Pickelsimer (6-0, 175, Sr.) is a threat running the ball giving the Bulldog offense a dual threat at the position. “We will run multiple sets to keep the defense off guard. We’re counting on our offensive line to open up holes so Carr and Pickelsimer can have success moving the ball,” said Barrett. Guard Andy Jackson (6-0, 190, So.) has the task of opening those holes coach Barrett expects to see this season. In the passing game wide receiver Cameron Webb (6-1, 180, Sr.) and tight end Chris Choate (6-4, 210, Jr.) combine for more than 500 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. DEFENSE “We will run a 5-2 defense and will fly to the football. We’re counting on Carr to lead the defense at the linebacker position and Buddy McGee to cover the deep threat at free safety,” said Barrett. Last season Carr recorded 46 tackles at the linebacker spot. McGee (6-1, 180) is only a sophomore, but has impressed the coaches and should be a big contributor this season. Mark Mincey (5-8, 170, Jr.) joins McGee in the secondary at the strong safety position. Mincey had 63 tackles last year proving he can stop the run or punish receivers that attempt to go across the middle. Trey Shaw (5-8, 180, So.) is a young linebacker that has grown up quick playing next to Carr. The staff expects Shaw to have a breakout season. Jackson will start at defensive tackle where he accounted for 84 tackles a year ago. COACH: TRACY GANDY ENROLLMENT: 147 2009 - 10-1 2010 - 8-3 2011 - 8-4 2012 - 13-1 2013 - 12-2 OFFENSE The Blue Devils graduation losses include multiple players that have been part of 25 wins the past two years including reaching backto-back Class A finals contests. However, before opponents get
to excited take note of the talent returning in 2014 including VYPE Top 100 offensive lineman Riley Daniel (6-6, 320, Sr.). “He’s got all the tools,” said head coach Tracy Gandy, “quick feet, good hands, size and strength. He played tight end until his sophomore year and has spent the time and effort to become one of the best.” The front line for the Blue Devils includes another 3 year starter Zeb Willis (5-10, 215, Sr.) along with Guy Patty (5-11, 190, Jr.) and Jacob Wade (5-11, 185, Jr.). A prolific offense that scored 528 points in 14 games welcomes skilled running backs including fullback Blaine Murray (5-8, 200, Sr.), Trevor Richardson (5-9, 195, Jr.), plus Joe Hill (6-0, 190, Sr.) who missed most of 2013 due to an ACL injury. Coltin Eubanks (5-11, 220, Jr.) and Trevor McKibbin (5-9, 165, Sr.) proved added depth. The battle at quarterback will no doubt produce a top performer as Lucas Lester (6-1, 180, Sr.) and Ricky Lewis (5-9, 160, So.) compete for the starting position. “Lucas throws the ball very well and Ricky is an extremely fast athlete,” said Gandy. “I’ve got confidence in both players running the offense.” Proven experience will return at wide receiver including Austin Rogers (5-9, 175, Sr.), who Gandy calls the guy who will go get the ball in a crowd, along with Halston Cox (5-11, 150, Jr.). Ringling’s use of the double tight formation should be solid again with Bailey Williamson (5-11, 200, Sr.) and Brodye Harragan (5-11, 190, Sr.) in the lineup. DEFENSE Ringling’s defensive talents will remain sound and strong as proven performers return running to the football with passion and aggression. The defensive interior boasts the abilities of Eubanks, Daniel, Willis, Wade and Bryce Smith (6-0, 235, Jr.) to disrupt play in the trenches while a swarm of linebackers including Murray, Richardson, Williamson, Patty and Baler Stewart (6-0, 180, So.) bring pressure up the gap and from the edge. Three year starter C.J. Burks (5-9, 165, Sr.) will join forces with Rogers at cornerback while Cox, Lewis, McKibbin and Jaron Grider (5-10, 160, Sr.) patrol the secondary at safety. “The tradition of Ringling football has prepared the new guys ready for their time in the spotlight,” said Gandy. “They’ve worked hard waiting their turn. There are a lot of new names now that hopefully will be well known by season’s end.” Sept. 5 – vs. OCS Sept. 12 – OPEN Sept. 19 – vs. Marietta Sept. 26 – at Wilson Oct. 3 – OKC Patriots Oct. 10 – vs. Velma-Alma Oct. 16 – vs. Empire Oct. 24 – at Rush Springs Oct. 31 – at Central-Marlow Nov. 7 – vs. Healdton
