chapter and in very active in her church.
Alyssa Hawley needs no help finding something to do at Kellyville High School. She participates in varsity cheer, runs cross country and track, and loved playing basketball until she sustained an injury in the final game last year. Hawley is class Treasurer, is President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes
“Alyssa is an outstanding young lady and campus leader. She always has a smile on her face and has a heart to serve her classmates. Though she is quiet by nature, her classmates respect her and follow her lead. Behind that warming smile she is a fierce competitor. She is diligent in the classroom and is a credit to the Kellyville community and to her tribe,” said Roscoe Migliore, Kellyville FCA Huddle Sponsor.
Being a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation has played a major role in her life and is something she is proud to discuss. “As a member of the Creek tribe it has given me more incite to my culture. I love participating in Green Corn at Polecat Ceremonial Grounds and I love the stories about the elders. It is also very interesting to me the different processions in the traditional burial process,” said Hawley. Hawley said her teammates are very important to her because they are another form of family and she loves her family. In the classroom Hawley is focused on making the most of her education and is excited to one day continue her path of learning in college. “My favorite subject in school is math. This year I will be taking algebra 3 and trigonometry. I would like to study premed. My ultimate goal is to become a pediatric neurologist and osteopathic manipulation and massage physician,” said Hawley. “My parents have been a major influence on my life. They’ve always taught me to set high goals and once they are accomplished to set new ones. They’ve also taught me that everything in life is obtainable if you work hard.” Representing the Muscogee (Creek) Nation is something Hawley is proud to do and wants her values to reflect what the people of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation believe. “Representing the Muscogee (Creek) Nation means you have amazing moral, cultural, and family values. To me, that is what it means to be a Creek citizen.”

AUGUST 2016
QB – Tanner Griffin, Bixby Spartans – A proven winner, Griffin led the Spartans to their second straight 6AII title last season. Griffin, a DI baseball prospect, has all the tools to make it three in a row for Bixby. RB – Grant Ward, Cascia Hall Commandos – There are a ton of running backs worthy of this spot, but give me the production, versatility and heart of Grant Ward. A 1,000-yard running back, Ward is a hard runner and a dependable player.
WR – Marcus Mays, Edison Eagles – Big time players make big time plays and Marcus Mays can make those big time plays look easy. His best stat may be yards after the catch. OL – Jake Martin, Berryhill Chiefs – Martin’s stock continues to rise in the world of recruiting as more college
Grant Ward
Jake Martin
coaches take notice of the talent Martin has on the offensive line. DL – Isaiah Thomas, Memorial Chargers – An athlete freak, Isaiah Thomas has great size and strength coupled with quickness and a determination every great player possesses.
LB – Marquis Ezell, McLain Titans – Not as high profile as the other linebackers on the list, but Marquis Ezell has the talent to play at the next level. Ezell is a downhill player that attacks the ball and gets after opposing quarterbacks. DB – Wayne Jones III, Owasso Rams – The self-proclaimed “best safety in the state of Oklahoma” is certainly a player I want on my team. Jones has a solid work ethic and delivers every Friday night.
Reese Leitao
FAN’S CHOICE ALL-TULSA OKLAHOMA PRESEASON TEAM The Top Vote Getters QB – Grady Davenport, Union Redskins – It’s never easy taking over a program like Union, but Davenport has looked good in passing leagues and has the arm to lead the Redskins to a memorable season.
RB – Joe Smith, Holland Hall Dutch – Maybe not a household name (yet), Smith will be a major player in making Holland Hall’s first season in the OSSAA one they will not soon forget.
WR – Corden Harrington, Coweta Tigers – A big-time player for the Tigers, Harrington had 700 yards of offense last season and should repeat or exceed that as a senior. OL – Hagen Meservy, Jenks Trojans – A versatile player on the line, Meservy has the strength to play inside at guard
Bryce Cabrera
and the feet and hands to play tackle. Meservy is a VYPE Top 100 selectee.
DL – Jordan Waller, Coweta Tigers – A starter at defensive end, Jordan Waller is simply tough to contain coming off the edge. Wall is athletic enough to make plays in pursuit or slam the door shut on the inside.
LB – Bryce Alonso, Bishop Kelley Comets – At 6-foot-3 and 215-pounds Bryce Alonso has tremendous size and will surprise you with his quickness. Only a junior Alonso will start at OLB for the Comets. DB – Caleb Alvez, Bishop Kelley Comets – One part of the two-headed monster in the Kelley secondary, Alvez has tremendous closing speed on the ball and is a solid man-to-man cover guy.

THE SCOOP: It’s no surprise Connor Haff is being offered by several schools. The DT/DE can put both hands on the ground and crash the middle of your line or he can slide outside and finesse you into giving up a sack. Haff has offers from Stephen F. Austin, Pitt State, SWOSU and Northeastern State.
THE SCOOP: Griffin led the Spartans to their second straight title in Class 6A-II last year after throwing for more than 3,200 yards and 21 touchdowns. Known for his strong arm, Griffin has the ability to make difficult throws look easy. Despite having all the tools for football, Griffin has sign with Oklahoma State University for baseball.
THE SCOOP: Just a junior, Devin Clayton has continued to improve in all aspects of the game. From route running to blocking, Clayton has the tools to become one of the top players in the state. He has good hands and gains in the weight room have Clayton weighing more than 200-pounds. Big things are coming from this Tiger.

THE SCOOP: A leader on and off the field, Kendall Sweet is a consistent player on either side of the ball. As a strong safety Sweet can step up and play near the line of scrimmage like a LB. Tremendous size with good speed, Sweet is another Hornet built in that proud tradition of great players to wear the orange and black. Sweet has offers from Stephen F. Austin, Arkansas State, and Missouri State with more on the way.
THE SCOOP: Watch Delvin Jordan on film and you will see a LB that attacks the ball and plays downhill. Jordan has the instincts to sniff out the play and run it down. In his last two seasons Jordan has four forced fumbles and three TD’s on defense. Whether he’s at LB or DE, Jordan must be accounted for before the snap.
THE SCOOP: Rylan McQuarters is a natural at corner and in the return game. Last season he grabbed five interceptions, returning one for a TD. He also averaged 74 yards per return on four returns. Two of those went to the house. This season look for McQuarters to get involved in the run game and continue to make teams pay for throwing his way.

Bishop Kelley Comets – MLB/FB HT: 6’0” WT: 210
Bixby Spartans – NG/DE HT: 6’3” WT: 290
THE SCOOP: Isaiah Thomas is racking up offers from some heavy hitters thanks to his 6-foot-5 frame and his ability to get to the quarterback. Thomas has the frame to add a few more pounds and still be the menace off the edge. Also a varsity basketball player, Thomas helped the Chargers to a state runner-up finish last season. Current offers include OU, OSU, Alabama, Illinois, South Carolina, Houston, Kansas, Missouri and several others.
THE SCOOP: A multi sport star at Bishop Kelley, Matthew Smith is a game changer on the defensive side of the ball. A true throwback at MLB Smith plays with his hair on fire sniffing out plays and making it look easy. Smith is a leader and demands a lot from his teammates. The type of player you love to play with and hate to play against.
THE SCOOP: Coming from a long line of great defensive linemen at Bixby, Brendon Evers may be at the top of that list. This NG/DE combines strength with power and quickness to cause all sorts of problems for opposing offenses. Look for the Spartans to more Evers around forcing opponents to adjust their scheme, as QB’s will certainly want to know where he’s coming from. Evers has committed to play for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, but first he looks to lead the Spartans to a three-peat.

THE SCOOP: Intelligent and tough, Seth Boomer passed for nearly 2,000 yards last year as a junior. Boomer has good pocket presence and doesn’t get rat-tled when things break down. The recruiting battle for his services heated up before Boomer picked the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
THE SCOOP: This Edison Prep Eagle is a two-time VYPE Top 100 player thanks to his tenacity on the field and desire to be the best. Mays can be the most physical defender and the most intelligent player on the field. His skill set includes playing receiver and special teams if needed. Great size and a radar for the ball.
THE SCOOP: Levi Draper may be the most consistent player in the Top 100. A two-time nominee, Draper is a proven ball-hawk with the numbers to prove it. His size, speed and physicality sparked the big schools to compete for his services at the next level. Draper has decided to sign with the University of Oklahoma.

THE SCOOP: Powerful is the first word that comes to mind when describing Garrett Flanary. Known more for his play at defensive tackle, Flanary has recorded a 40 time of 4.79, squats 620-pounds and deadlifts 600-pounds. College interest is high as Flanary has picked up offers from many D1 schools before committing to The University of Tulsa. With the history of local success with offensive linemen, TU will be a great place for him.
THE SCOOP: Reed Martin added his name to the list of 1,000 running backs last year on a team that featured a D1 QB. Martin showed his versatility by catching 16 passes for 244 yards as a junior. Reed is a sure-fire D1 prospect with offers from SMU, University of Texas-San Antonio, Yale, Cornell, Columbia and Ball State.
THE SCOOP: CJ Thompson is a playmaker for the Dutch. He can create problems for opponents with his size and speed. Thompson is the prototypical receiver that turns a four-yard reception into a 30-yard big play. Also a threat on defense to make a game changing INT, Thompson will help the Dutch in all aspects of the game. Last year he got some work in the return game.

Garner averaged nearly 100 all-purpose yards per game last season. Garner’s production will see a boost in 2016, as he takes on a bigger role on both offense and defense.

Coach's Q&A: Brad Calip at Booker T. Washington
By Steve Braun This fall there will be a new head coach at Booker T. Washington as Brad Calip takes the reins of the Hornets program. Coach caught up with VYPE contributor Steve Braun to discuss the tradition of Hornet football and his role in the next step for the legacy of Hornet football.
VYPE: You’ve coached at places like Ada and Jenks that are tradition rich programs. What is it like to be named the head coach at Booker T. Washington a very tradition rich program in its own right? Calip: It is truly a blessing and an honor. They have an alumni room with all of the legendary people that have been through here. Wayman Tisdale, Felix Jones, Tyler Lockett and all the other great athletes that have been here, it’s truly breathtaking. One of the coaches told me that Booker T. Washington is ranked tenth in the nation in sending guys to the NFL. I didn’t even know that and that’s truly impressive. It’s exciting and I can’t wait to get started. I’ve got some work to do but it’s a gold mine and I’m excited about it and we’re going to turn it around and hopefully come out positive and win some gold balls.
VYPE: So many guys go on to play at the collegiate level and in the NFL from Booker T. Washington. You are someone that had a lot of success at the collegiate level and went on to play professionally. Does that add something to going into the locker room to look those guys in the eye and say I did this and I can show you the way?
Calip: Yes I think it does. Kids today with the internet can look you up and some have already looked me up and said, “Coach I didn’t know you were in the College Football Hall of Fame. Wow!” So I think that has some clout and

an advantage with these kids to show they do have a chance. At my size and my frame coming from a NAIA school to have the opportunity to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. As long as you have the opportunity to play at the D1, D2, NAIA you get to go to that next level that’s truly a blessing. I have a lot of players that have single parents and I’ve told them what a neat way to get an education and a degree to make that parent proud of you. There are a lot of things like that to preach. I think with my success and being an AfricanAmerican it really shines a light on the subject a little better. VYPE: How does the academic side of things play into you building the tradition within Booker T. Washington with the background you have as a former collegiate coach?
Calip: Booker T. Washington is such a good academic school and the teachers take their subject matters so seriously. There are guys that struggle a little bit so I’ll set up a study hall on Wednesdays. But a lot of these guys go onto the college level, like Dominique Alexander is working out here now and I asked him about that. He said this school really set him up for success academically and really made it a lot easier for him to take on his subject matters at the University of Oklahoma. They have a foundation at BTW to prepare the kids for college and a lot of high schools don’t have that and I have that benefit here. VYPE: You spoke about the legends that have come from Booker T. Washington. When I think of Booker T. Washington I think of the community and the all of the players that have come from there and went on to do great things. Is building relationships with those within that community and those that came before and built the tradition important to you?
Calip: Yes, Felix Jones and Robert Meachem had their youth camp back in June here and I got the opportunity to meet a lot of those guys. I want to reach out to those guys, not for money but for them to feel welcomed and to come back and say we can always come back home. I got the opportunity to hang out one evening
with Tyler Lockett and Felix Jones. They got the opportunity to ask me what I need and what it will take to get there. But I listened to those guys and learned a lot from those guys because a lot of those guys came from poor backgrounds and to come back and give to the community is awesome. I’m wanting to have a relationship with them to make them feel comfortable and to feel that they are always a Hornet. That is something I want to continue as long as I’m the head coach at Booker T. Washington. VYPE: With the number of players that have come from Booker T. Washington to go on to college or the NFL it must be special for the current players when those former players come back around?
Calip: We had a couple of our players in Felix’s camp and to see that legacy out there and with Dominique Alexander working out, getting ready for the Cleveland Browns. He stopped and talked to the kids and a lot of them know who he is. It was refreshing to have that caliber of athlete at our facility and working out. Those guys can bring a lot to the table and relate in a way that maybe I can’t with the players. He’s been there as he’s sweated and bled on that field and he had a big impact on those kids. It’s neat to have those guys there and to share their success stories. It’s a blessed place to be.
VYPE: There is so much pressure not only in the Booker T. Washington community but also from outside with the number of talented athletes that come out of the school. How do you address that pressure?
Calip: When I took this job, I was hired March 14, that was some of the questions they asked me. It is a pressure job and as I tell people I’d rather be in this type of situation with great athletes and mold those guys not only to be successful with winning a gold ball but my job is to make those young boys become young men. If I can teach those guys to be young men when they leave this place then I have succeeded and the rest will happen. It was 2010 when Tyler Lockett and his class last won a gold ball. We push that every day that we have to bring the legacy back. We have the resources and athletes, but you have to game plan with Loren Montgomery at Bixby and Dustin Kinard at Sand Springs and others getting better. It is a pressure job and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Allie Eicher - Owasso Senior fastpitch softball player Allie Eicher returns to lead the Owasso Lady Rams for her final season of high school softball. Eicher has committed to play softball in college and will attend the University of Central Oklahoma next fall. Eicher would like to become an anesthesiologist. Last year Eicher was stellar at the plate hitting for an average of .457 and helped the team to a 32-7 record overall. She is a two-time All-District player for the Lady Rams and is expected to have a similar performance this season. A unique combination of offense and defense, Eicher can play multiple positions including shortstop and second base, but is projected to be the starting shortstop for Owasso. Eicher told owassosoftball.com that she enjoys playing basketball and tweeting when she’s not of the diamond. For her commitment to the Owasso Lady Rams softball team and to Owasso High School, Allie Eicher is the Mazzios Athlete of the Month.
Cade Yeager - Broken Arrow Starting quarterback Cade Yeager enters his senior season as one of the top players at his position in Oklahoma. Yeager is known as an intelligent player with a competitiveness that drives him to play at a high level and push himself and his teammates to do great things. Yeager is a member of STUCO, Student Leadership and the FFA at Broken Arrow High School and wants to pursue a degree in sports psychology and play football in college. “This season I want to throw for 3,000 yards and have 700-plus rushing yards. What I love most about this game is the chance to play for my town and have fun with my brothers,” said Yeager. Last season Yeager led the Tigers to the state title game and was named All-Tulsa World. This season Yeager was named to the VYPE Top 100 placing him in the running for the title of Mr. Football Oklahoma. His dedication to the team and Broken Arrow High School is infectious. It’s no surprise Yeager has become one of the go-to leaders for the Tigers.

Academic Athletes of the Month Ashton Friend Collinsville High School
Entering her senior year at Collinsville High School, fastpitch softball player Ashton Friend returns to help defend the Class 5A state championship the Lady Cardinals won in 2015.
In that state title game last season the Lady Cardinals were pushed to 12-innings by the Pryor Lady Tigers, but in the top of the 12th Friend hit what would be the game winning homerun to give the Lady Cards the, 2-1 victory. For her efforts Friend was named 5A-3 District Pitcher of the Year, with 114 strikeouts. Friend finished the season with a 15-4 record.
Friend works just as hard on the field as she does off. She is carrying a 3.8 GPA going into her senior year and is looking forward to completing her high school career and take her talents on the field to the next level. In college Friend would like to study in the field of Kinesiology and will continue taking visits to several universities.
Proud of her Native American heritage, Friend spends a lot of her time with her competitive team, the Oklahoma Eagles and when she’s not playing softball she enjoys working with young athletes and being around the game she loves.
Garrett Flanary Lincoln Christian School
Senior football player and VYPE Top 100 selectee Garrett Flanary is looking forward to the challenge of another season as the Bulldogs look to get back to the state title game.
Flanary is a starting defensive tackle and tight end for the Bulldogs, but when he’s not on the field you can find him in the gym or finishing homework. Flanary is a member of the National Honor Society and takes his schoolwork very serious.
Flanary has received several awards thanks to his play on the field. Last season he was named to the All-Metro team and was All-State Honorable Mention. A Division I football prospect, Flanary would like to study physical therapy in college and has several schools offering scholarships for his services next season.
Known for his play on the field and his focus in the classroom, Flanary credits his coaches for pushing him to always work hard and strive for excellence on and off the football field.

Quick Hits: The Tigers will be challenged right out of the gate by Euless-Trinity. The Trojans went 10-1 against an ultra tough schedule before being upset in the first round of the UIL playoffs by South Grand Prairie. This will mark the second season in a row in which the Tigers travel to the Metroplex. Broken Arrow defeated Coppell 24-17 in overtime last September. Broken Arrow is 32-3 against district competition the past five years, including district championships 2011 and 2015. All three of those losses came to Jenks.
In 2015 the Broken Arrow Tigers under head coach David Alexander made it to the state finals, but came up short against conference rival Jenks. It was certainly a step in the right direction, but for the coaching staff and the team, being state runner-up isn’t good enough.
Quarterback Cade Yeager (6-1, 195, Sr.) returns to run the Pro style offense for his final campaign in high school. Coach Alexander said of Yeager, “he is the best quarterback in the state,” after he threw for more than 1,800 yards and 17 touchdowns to only five interceptions. Yeager does have help on offense mainly in tight end Devin Clayton (6-2, 215, Jr.) and running back Corbin Chambers (5-9, 165, Jr.). Both Clayton and Chambers are young, exciting talents that have the potential to be superstars for the Tigers. But the options on offense do not end with Clayton and Chambers. Noah Cortes (5-10, 195, So.) has shown the ability to play either wide receiver or running back giving the offense yet another weapon to throw at opposing defenses. The offensive line features Blake Batson (6-3, 235, Sr.), another strong, quick tackle in a long line of great offensive tackles. Coach Alexander said the team is looking to fill a few holes, but he’s confident they will be ready for the season opener on the road against Euless Trinity.
The Tigers shutout Owasso 21-0 in last year’s season opener. Broken Arrow has won 9 of 10 in that series by an average margin of 28-11. Last 5 Years: 2015 - 11-2 2014 - 7-4 2013 - 10-3 2012 – 8-4 2011 – 12-2
CJ Meyers
Go Tigers!
Cade Yeager “We’re young but talented. We do have two big pieces of the puzzle back in Yeager and Carder Key.”
DEFENSE
Carder Key (6-1, 210, Sr.) is expected to break the tackle record this season from his linebacker position. Key joins Yeager and Clayton has VYPE Top 100 selectees this season. Joining Key in the thumper zone is outside linebacker Skyler Haynes (6-1, 200, Sr.). Haynes notched six sacks last year with 57 tackles and one interception. With Key getting plenty of attention from the offensive line, Haynes could have another big year for the Tigers. Both players work well in the 4-3 scheme but the Tigers will depend on Trenton Lieurance (6-0, 275, Sr.) for a big push up front. Lieurance will press the issue in the middle of the D-line giving the linebackers an opportunity to roam freely to the football. Another area of the defense that gives the appearance of a seasoned unit is the defensive secondary. CJ Meyers (5-9, 165, Sr.) and Tucker Dunlap (5-10, 185, Jr.) are speedy defensive backs that live on an island and make it look comfortable. Both Meyers and Dunlap look to turn the Broken Arrow secondary into a No-Fly-Zone this year. Two coaches were added to the staff this season. Ryan Nolan and Aaron Nowell have joined the staff, while Tim Holt has taken the head coach position at Coweta High School.

Head coach Allan Trimble is coming off a stretch of four state titles in a row, but the Trojans only return four starters on offense and one starter on defense. That means some new faces will dot the lineup for the Trojans as they attempt to pull off their fifth title in as many
One player getting a lot of attention is tight end Reese Leitao (6-4, 235, Sr.). Leitao has developed into a great tight end in the passing game and a sound blocker in the run game. Also a basketball player, Leitao has offers from several DI schools for football including Maryland, Indiana, Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois, Navy, Duke, UCF, Minnesota, Oklahoma State and many others. Leitao isn’t the only weapon running routes for the Trojans. Brett Standlee (6-4, 220, Sr.) returns to the field bringing nearly 400 yards of production as one of the clutch receivers in the spread offense coach Dub Maddox has utilized at Jenks for several years. Isaiah Epps (6-2, 175, Sr.) will see an increased role in the offense this year. Epps runs crisp routes and brings a lot of speed to the field. The running game is solid with possibly the best one-two punch in Class 6A. Jordon Curtis (6-2, 185, Sr.) and Reuben Thompson (5-10, 185, Sr.) are hard runners that rarely get tackled by first contact. Curtis rushed for 781 yards on 87 carries and scored 12 touchdowns last year, while Thompson gained 967 yards on 143 carries with 14 scores. Curtis has committed to the University of Arkansas. Ironman Diego Moya (5-10, 250, Sr.) has made serious gains in the weight room and leads a talented offensive line from his center position. Hagen Meservy (6-4, 305, Sr.) is a formidable force at either guard or tackle. Where coach Doug Greenwood plays Meservy has yet to be determined, but if he gets his paws on you, your best bet is to wait for the next snap and come up with a new plan. Aaron Herbig (5-10, 290, Sr.) is another stout lineman the Trojans have in the starting lineup.

Quarterback is one position the Trojans have open, but the sophomore Bryce Osmond (6-1, 150) appears to have the best shot at being the signal caller when the Trojans open the season on the road at Owasso. Another player expected to have an impact on both sides of the ball is running back/defensive back Noah Hernandez (5-8, 180, So.). DEFENSE
Curtis will start for the defense at his corner position giving the Trojans their lone starter from the 2015 defense that only gave up an average of 16.2 points per game. Curtis picked off two passes last year and had several pass breakups. The defensive line may be the strength for the Trojans this season with Leitao playing on the edge, while Steven Krager (6-0, 265, Jr.) is penciled in at tackle. Krager saw limited action last season, but continues to impress the coaches with his motor and tenacity getting after the quarterback. A new set of linebackers featuring Hayden Johnson (5-9, 175, Sr.) have big shoes to fill, but the staff is confident the players competing for the job have the ability to meet the standards set by the players that came before them. Joining Curtis in the secondary is junior Noah Strong (5-9, 165). Also look for Brett Nelson (5-11, 200, Jr.) and Hunter Spankowski (6-2, 260, Jr.) to make significant contributions this year. Defensive coordinator Keith Riggs will stick with the 3-4 scheme that has been so successful for the Trojans, but look for them to mix up the blitz packages utilizing their DI talent to force opponents to search for an easier path to move the chains. The new faces have a clear understanding of what it takes to be a winner in a tough 6AI-1 district and are eager to accept the challenge.

OFFENSE
The Redskins have so many flashy players it’s almost easy to forget they have one of the best offensive lines in Class 6AI. Elwood Tomlin (6-1, 285, Sr.) and Carlos Barrios (6-3, 250, Sr.) have experience and the ability to impose their will on a defense. Add Nate Peters (6-1, 290, Sr.) and Adrian Wilson (6-1, 285, Sr.) and you have a senior led line that would love nothing more than to spend an entire game running the ball down your throat. The player looking to benefit from this group of mashers is running back Shamari Brooks (5-8, 180, Sr.). Brooks returns to the starting lineup at a different position, but the University of Tulsa commit does have experience at the position. Another Division I prospect is wide receiver CJ Moore (6-4, 175, Jr.). The tall, athletic receiver has shown he has the ability to make the difficult receptions look easy. Head coach Kirk Fridrich has two guys battling it out for the starting job at quarterback. Grady Davenport and Peyton Morrison are two seniors looking to take over the coveted position.
“We have two guys in Davenport and Morrison that had a solid spring and will use a returning group of skill positions to lean on as they gain experience,” said coach Fridrich.
A challenging schedule will test the Redskins early as they go on the road to face Southlake Carroll in Texas then host Broken Arrow and Jenks. District play begins on the 23rd of September at home against Edmond North. DEFENSE
The defensive side of the ball is dotted with
Tre Brown
Shamari Brooks Division I talent. Tre Brown (5-10, 168, Sr.) is one of several defensive backs the Redskins have with the ability to swing momentum their way on one play. Brown is joined by Jordan Starks (5-9, 165, Sr.) in the secondary. Both Brown and Starks have tremendous cover skills and closing speed. This group of linebackers may be the best group the Redskins have had in several years. Kyrei Fisher (6-1, 228, Sr.) is a VYPE Top 100 selectee and leads this unit that includes Darius Thornton (5-9, 220, Sr.) and Braden Spicer (5-11, 190, Jr.). In the 3-4 scheme the Redskins will look to free up the LB’s to make plays at the line of scrimmage, but the line play is crucial for them to be successful. That’s where Lee Barnes (5-10, 286, Sr.) and Devon Bajek (6-3, 242, Sr.) enter the fold. Barnes and Bajek must get that push inside and force opponents to keep extra offensive linemen inside to help contain the middle. Coach Steve Neal has left the team, but taking over as defensive coordinator is Kyle Fridrich. “Defensively we return a core group of the front seven and that experience should help with a tough schedule early in the season,” said coach Fridrich. If the defense can perform to a high level this Redskin team may be one of the best we’ve seen in several years. Certainly good enough to compete for and win their ninth state title.

Quick Hits: The Spartans claimed back-to-back 6A-Divsion II championships avenging regular season losses to Bartlesville and Sand Springs. Nic Roller returned from injury to rush for an incredible 13 touchdowns in Bixby’s three playoff wins. The 2016 schedule presents another huge test for the Spartans. Bixby travels to Bentonville, Arkansas on September 9th. The Tigers finished 10-2 in 2015, losing to eventual champ Fayetteville in the Class 7A semifinals.
Westmoore returns to the schedule after a twoyear absence. The Spartans and the Jaguars will play a non-district game on September 23rd. Westmoore has won both the previous meetings with Bixby. Last 5 Years: 2015 - 9-4 2014 - 12-1 2013 - 6-4 2012 - 4-7 2011 – 3-7

OFFENSE
The Bixby Spartans brought home their second state title in a row last season after defeating Sand Springs, 38-28 in the finals of Class 6AII. Head coach Loren Montgomery has a record of 38-29 after six seasons, but more importantly he’s led the Spartans to two trips to the finals and won both times.
Quarterback Tanner Griffin (6-1, 205, Sr.) may be an Oklahoma State baseball commit, but he sure can sling the football. Last season he threw for 3,248 yards making him one of the more prolific passers in Class 6A. Helping to take some of the pressure off Griffin is running back Tucker Pawley (6-0, 195, Jr.). Pawley rushed for 506 yards and added 269 yards receiving to his total in 2015. Wide receiver Nic Swanson (6-1, 180, Sr.) could become the go-to target for Griffin in the passing game. One area of strength for the Spartans is the offensive line. Pierce Hibblen (5-6, 225, Sr.) and Bryce Bray (6-6, 295, Jr.) will join Josh Owens (6-4, 265, Jr.) up front as they work to give Griffin time in the passing game and open holes for Pawley when it’s time to grind out some yards. Offensive coordinator Tyler Schneider will use multiple formations to keep the defense guessing, but expect a heavy dose of Griffin as they continue to develop wide receivers and a tight end.
DEFENSE
Some familiar names return to the defensive side of the ball including middle linebacker Cody Tillman (6-0, 240, Jr.). As a sophomore Tillman recorded 159 tackles, making offensive coordinators spend a little extra time in the film room trying to figure out how to stop him. Another
Nic Swanson headache for OC’s is Brendon Evers (6-2, 304, Sr.) at nose guard. Evers had 72 tackles last year before committing to Oklahoma State University. Evers will garner a double team for most, if not all of the game, so look for defensive coordinator Rodney Flowers to utilize Evers in ways most offensive line coaches are not used to seeing. Cody Adams (5-10, 235, Sr.) is a quick defensive end with exceptional range. Adams had 64 tackles last season. Defensive backs Drake Allen (5-8, 155, Sr.) and Ryan Matthews (5-10, 188, Sr.) combined for over 50 tackles. The ball hawk in the secondary is Colton Tafoya (5-10, 182, Jr.). Last season as a sophomore Tafoya picked off five passes and notched 23 tackles. Big time production for an underclassman. With Tafoya, Allen and Matthews in the secondary the Spartans are baiting quarterbacks into making mistakes. The Spartans open the season on the road at Jenks, where many people believe this could be the year the Spartans get that win over the Trojans.

OFFENSE
The Rams and head coach Bill Patterson are looking to bounce back after a disappointing 2015 season. But that is in the past and Rams are moving forward with a talented group of players poised to make their mark in 2016.
Schedule: Aug. 26 – vs. Jenks Sept. 2 – vs. Bartlesville Sept. 9 – at Broken Arrow Sept. 16 – Bye Sept. 23 – at Mustang Sept. 30 – vs. Union Oct. 6 – at Putnam City North Oct. 14 – vs. Southmoore Oct. 20 – vs. Norman North Oct. 28 – at Moore Nov. 4 – at Edmond North
“It has been an offseason of total reevaluation, hard work, and adjustment for our football program. We believe we have the players to have a good football team if they are willing to make the commitment necessary in 6AI. Once again we find ourselves in, without question, the toughest district in the state and that opportunity to compete should excite us,” said coach Patterson.
Quick Hits: Owasso is coming off a mark of 4-5 in 2015. The Rams have not suffered back to back losing seasons since 1991-92. Bartlesville is back on the Rams schedule after a two-year absence. Dating back to 2000, Owasso is 12-1 in the series. The Rams host Norman North on October 20th. It’s the fourth meeting between the schools and when they get together you can expect plenty of points. The average score from the three previous meetings is Owasso 46 Norman North 36. Last 5 Years: 2015 - 4-5 2014 - 10-2 2013 - 5-6 2012 - 10-3 2011 – 9-4
Quarterback Troy Hudson (6-1, 190, Sr.) threw for over 1,000 yards and six touchdowns last season and added 268 yards in 48 attempts. Solid numbers, but Hudson is looking for greatness. He’ll have two athletic targets to throw to in wide receivers Jake Enzbrenner (6-0, 185, Sr.) and Jaylen Johnson (6-1, 190, Sr.). Both players are capable of making big plays and stretching a defense. Speaking of big targets, look for Ethan Garner (6-5, 270, Sr.) at tight end. Garner could be used primarily as a blocking tight end, but he does have the ability to leak out into the flat and give opposing coordinators something to think about when game planning for the Rams. The offensive line is anchored by Jason Bell (6-4, 280, Jr.) and Conner McAlester (5-11, 205, Sr.). Both players have experience upfront and will play crucial roles in the teams overall success. Also look for Russell Baker (6-4, 275, Jr.) and Jonathan Gomez (6-1, 245, Jr.) on the line. Antjuan Overton (5-9, 175, Jr.) transferred from Jenks and figures into the running game for the Rams.
DEFENSE
There is a lot of excitement around the Rams defense, especially in the secondary. Senior
Troy Hudson Athanie Leeviraphan (5-11, 180) leads what could be one of the more talented defensive secondary units in Class 6AI. This “no-fly-zone” unit features Jashon Gaddis (5-10, 180, Sr.), Josh Proctor (6-3, 190, Jr.) and Wayne Jones (6-1, 195, Jr.). In 2015 Proctor had 42 tackles with two interceptions, one he returned for a touchdown. Jones had 56 tackles and two interceptions as a sophomore. Pressure up front will come from Conner Haff (6-4, 275, Sr.) and Alex Reedy (6-1, 255, Sr.). Haff joins Jones and Proctor as VYPE Top 100 selectees. Linebacker Billy Fields (5-11, 205, Sr.) is quick to the ball and plays with a lot of passion. Look for newcomers Payton Ensmeyer (5-11, 195, Sr.) at linebacker and Anthony Cochrane (6-0, 210, Sr.) at defensive end. Overton could also see time in the secondary as he tries to find where he fits in best and sophomore linebacker Matt Turpen (60, 190) could be a real diamond in the rough for the Rams and see some playing time this year.

*Oklahoman All-State
Coach: VANCE MILLER Enrollment: 765
Schedule: Sept. 2 – vs. Glenpool Sept. 9 – at Oologah Sept. 16 – vs. East Central Sept. 23 – vs. Tahlequah Sept. 30 – at Nathan Hale Oct. 7 – vs. Memorial Oct. 14 – at Bishop Kelley Oct. 20 – at Claremore Oct. 28 – at Pryor Nov. 4 – vs. Collinsville
All-State History: Richard Dunlap 1962 Jim Butler 1967 J.D. Parkerson 1973 Jack Taylor 1974 Alex Darrow 1981 Kyle McLaughlin 2014
Quick Hits: Skiatook followed up 2014's state championship appearance with a 12-1 semi-final showing. The Bulldogs had not combined for 24 wins in back-to-back seasons since 1973-74. The 1974 season produced the school's only state title.
Skiatook and Collinsville have met every year since World War 2. The teams met twice last year as Skiatook won the regular season meeting but Collinsville came back to eliminate the Bulldogs in the 5A semifinals. The Cardinals hold a 19-12 edge in the past 30 years. The Bulldogs have won 12 games in a row at Hap Dunlap Field. Shawnee was the last team to defeat Skiatook at home. Last 5 Years: 2015 - 12-1 2014 - 12-2 2013 - 4-7 2012 – 0-10 2011 – 4-5
OUTLOOK The Skiatook Bulldogs won 12 games in a row and made it to the Class 5A state semifinal game in 2015. Their only loss came in that semifinal game, when the Bulldogs fell 23-3 to Collinsville. The Bulldogs went 7-0 in district play, and won multiple one possession games. This incredible run moved coach Vance Miller’s record at Skiatook to 42-46 for his career. Coming into 2016, Miller is hoping to add some more wins to that number. Leading the charge for coach Miller and the Bulldogs is VYPE Top 100 player Shae Garner (5-7, 150, Sr.). Garner is a three-year starter at Skiatook, and he plays both ways. On offense, Garner is a wide receiver, but he carries the ball as well. Garner’s speed allows him to play multiple positions on offense. On the ground, Garner carried the ball 80 times for 616 yards. Garner also caught 31 passes for 357 yards. Garner also returns kicks and punts for the Bulldogs. Between these three phases, Garner scored eight total touchdowns. Garner is also the key returning player for the Bulldog defense. Last season, Garner made 94 tackles and grabbed five interceptions from his safety position. Essentially, Garner is a one-man wrecking crew who rarely comes off of the field. Garner’s speed is his biggest weapon. On offense, his speed allows him to get into the open field and make defenders miss. On defense, the speed puts him in great positions to make tackles and cut off opposing receivers’ routes. Much of the Bulldogs’ success in 2016 will be predicated on Garner’s performance. Expect him to rise to the occasion. Jackson State, Missouri Southern and Southwestern are recruiting Garner, with plenty of offers still
Shae Garner to come. TK Wilkerson, Justin Demauro, Dylon Carnegey, AJ Johnson and Matt Sanchez will all make an impact for the Bulldogs in 2016. Wilkerson will play running back on offense, while he is an outside linebacker on defense. Demauro and Carnegey both battle in the trenches. Sanchez plays in the secondary next to Garner.

Quick Hits: The Sandites made their first appearance in a state championship game since defeating El Reno for the 2A title in 1966. Sand Springs has qualified for the playoffs in each of the last four seasons. It’s the longest such streak in school history. Junior running back Payton Scott rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries in a 4421 victory over Ponca City on October 15th. Last 5 Years: 2015 - 7-5 2014 - 8-4 2013 - 6-4 2012 – 8-3 2011 – 3-7
The offense in 2016 will look similar to what head coach Dustin Kinard ran in 2015. But one area the Sandites are looing to improve is the turnovers. The summer workouts have gone extremely well and coach Kinard is excited to see the group take the field. “We graduated some good kids, but we’ve got some good ones coming back. We need to find a way to get over the hump and finish. What we did last year was last year. This year’s team needs to focus on max effort on every rep, whether it’s in the weight room or on the field,” said coach Kinard.
Hunter Greathouse (6-3, 180, Sr.) will lead the Sandites in 2016. Last year Greathouse threw for 1,996 yards and 18 touchdowns and added eight more scores on the ground. Greathouse will look to wide receiver Kasey Bales (5-10, 160, Sr.) as his go-to target. Bales accounted for 32 receptions and 524 yards with four touchdowns in 2015. A pair of running backs, Payton Scott (5-5, 165, Jr.) and Dalton Morgan (6-0, 190, Sr.), brings speed and power to the offensive unit. They will share the burden in the running game as the Sandites look to establish the run behind tackle Lincoln Adams (6-4, 305, Sr) and Danny Ropp (5-10, 270, Sr.).
DEFENSE
VYPE Top 100 selectee Delvin Jordan (6-0, 220,
Hunter Greathouse Sr.) leads this Sandite defense from his linebacker position. Jordan is quick to the ball and tackle with purpose. Jordan has a future playing on Saturday, but first he is focused on leading this defense back to the state finals. Line play is key for the Sandites this season. Pressure from the big men up front will set the tone on defense and allow players like Jordan to make plays at the line of scrimmage. Nathan Simonton (6-2, 250, Sr.), Gage Fain (5-9, 220, Jr.) and Kris Edwards (6-2, 230, Jr.) are charged with taking control of the line of scrimmage and forcing their will on opponents. New defensive coordinator Kevin Avey is excited to turn this bunch loose on opposing quarterbacks. The secondary will feature safety Treyce Tolbert (5-10, 175, Sr.) and corner Josh Taber (5-10, 160, Sr.). Look for some younger talent to be called upon to fill in some holes and give the secondary some needed depth

Sand Springs & Sapulpa Players to Watch The Highway 97 rivalry is alive and well and with the success the Sand Springs Sandites had in 2015, the Sapulpa Chieftains would love to take them down a notch. Add former Sand Springs assistant Robert Borgstadt taking over the Sapulpa program and you have a recipe for a great tasting bowl of rivalry soup. Here are two players to watch as these two teams hook it up on September 23rd at Sand Springs Memorial Stadium. Sand Springs Sandites Josh Tabor, (5-10, 160, Sr.) CB/WR Tabor may not be the most recognized name on the Sandites roster, but if you’re looking for a guy that works hard at his craft and shows up when it’s game time, then look for Josh Tabor this season. As a corner Tabor has the speed to hang with the quick wide outs of Class 6AII giving the Sandite defense someone they can depend on to make plays on the edge. But his contributions
to the success of the Sandites does not stop at corner. Bouncing to the offensive side of the ball, Tabor is an effective receiver that runs good routes and can make difficult receptions look easy. Tabor will become one of the top targets for quarterback Hunter Greathouse this season. Tabor could see some time on special teams and if the coaches ask he’ll step up and do what’s best for the team. Making it to the state finals last season has left the Sand Springs football program hungry for more. Players like Tabor, Greathouse, VYPE Top 100 selectee Delvin Jordan, running back Payton Scott, safety Treyce Tolbert and tackle Lincoln Adams are all ready to hit the field and take another shot at glory. Sapulpa Chieftains Trevin Inks, (6-1, 165, Sr.) WR/DB/KR If production is what you’re looking for then check out Trevin Inks. From averaging over 17 yards per catch to making tackles on defense
and returning kicks, Inks is the all-purpose player that could be the difference for the Chieftains this season. On offense Inks had a huge year as a sophomore with 739 yards receiving and four touchdowns opening the eyes of defensive coordinators in Class 6AII. As a junior Inks still accounted for 249 yards through the air and returned 15 kickoffs and punts for 295 yards. Quarterback Cameron Elder will certainly find Inks in the passing game this season. The production doesn’t stop on offense or special teams. As a defensive back Inks is not afraid to initiate contact with ball carriers or fight off would-be blockers attempting to keep him out of the play. As a senior Inks is poised to have a breakout season. What never gets mentioned in the bio of a player is heart. Inks has heart and plays with emotion. Look for number 6 to make some electric plays this season and help the Chieftain program get back to winning football.

Character is a combination of qualities that distinguishes one person or group from another. VYPE celebrates achievements of local high school athletes by presenting the monthly “Character Counts Award.” Jordan Tuttle is a junior at Sapulpa High School where he’s a member of the varsity cross country team and is set to begin competition for the upcoming season.
Last season as a sophomore Tuttle was named All-Conference and posted his best time of 16:39 in the 5K. As the season progressed a year ago Tuttle continued to improve and shave time off his personal best. This season head coach Debbie Williams is excited to see what he can do as well as his teammates. “We just came home from an out of state cross country camp, and our athletes are very excited for the season. Jordan Tuttle has been our No.2 for two years and now that Nick Williams graduated, he’s working hard to lead the varsity boys,” said coach Williams. Tuttle’s efforts are sure to pay off this season as his time in the 5K is good enough to not only qualify for state, but to place him somewhere near or in the top ten.
As for the rest of the team coach Williams said, “there are several new freshmen that are anxious to get into the mix with the returning varsity starters.” Other names you can expect to see on the results sheet include Elijah Scott, Brayden Hughes, Tyler Scott, Jordan Williams, Tanner Boren and Gunner Fisher. Also look for Jaeden Coon to lead the way for the girls team with 30

Several changes have been made to the coaching staff at Sapulpa including head coach. Robert Borgstadt takes over the program after being the defensive coordinator at Sand Springs. Borgstadt hired Gary Tuell to become the new offensive coordinator and Ken Zachary takes over as strength and conditioning coach.
The Chieftains will run a single-back set featuring quarterback Cameron Elder (5-10, 180, Sr.). Elder will set the tone for the offense with his ability to run the ball and make accurate throws. His two main targets in the passing game are Gerquan Sanders (6-0, 170, Jr.) and Trevin Inks (6-1, 165, Sr.). Last season Sanders had 18 receptions for 275 yards and two touchdowns, while Inks recorded 17 receptions for 287 yards and a score. Their production is crucial to open up the running game. Marcus Henderson (5-10, 190, Sr.) is a big, athletic running back with the potential to have a breakout season. Tight end Cameron Hancock (62, 204, Jr.) is the offensive security blanket Elder may turn to when the Chieftains need to move the chains. Offensive lineman Tyler Wick (6-3, 242, Jr.) anchors a young line. Look for Sapulpa to develop the younger talent on the roster and fill holes left open by graduation. DEFENSE

season the linebackers will play a major role in stopping the run and putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks. One player to watch is Hayden Bullinger (6-2, 202, Sr.). Last season Bullinger had 64 tackles and two sacks from his outside linebacker spot. Also look for Dakota Carnes (5-10, 190, Sr.) who grabbed 40 tackles of his own last season. The combo of Bullinger and Carnes will create problems for any team looking to run the football. Add Malik Swift (5-9, 190, Sr.) to the mix of linebackers and you immediately get faster. Swift had 58 tackles a year ago. B.J. Dansby (5-10, 170, Sr.) will start at corner with Inks playing the opposite corner spot and Henderson at free safety. Coach Borgstadt wants to develop a culture of pride and a winning attitude at Sapulpa. The Highway 97 rivalry with Sand Springs has yet another added element with coach Borgstadt’s connection to the coaching staff for the Sandites. Regardless of where he came from, coach Borgstadt is all-in with the Chieftains and would love nothing more than to hang an L on Sand Springs.

Team of the Month Kellyville Football
The Kellyville football program under the leadership of head coach Scott Robb is a program on the rise in Eastern Oklahoma. With several key players returning to the field in 2016 the Ponies setting their sites on competing for a playoff spot in the competitive Class 3A-6 district. The offensive line will play a major role in the overall success of the team in 2016. Returning starters Caleb Robb, Caleb Guinn, Timmy Roth and Ted Schenk combined have six years of starting experience on the line. Running back Hayden Hutchins rushed for nearly 500 yards last season, but behind an offensive line that averages 220-pounds, Hutchins should see those numbers increase as the team looks to establish a running game and get back to dominating opponents up front. Quarterback Casey Williams can play multiple

positions, but may spend most of his time under center. Head coach Scott Robb told VYPE editor Brad Heath that the team was young, but they have worked hardtop become more competitive in a district that features a lot of playoff-worthy teams. Several players return on the defensive side of the ball including sophomore linebacker William Peterson. Couple Peterson with Brendan Stites and you have the makings of a dynamic duo playing behind the defensive line that will showcase the talents of Riley Masterson. The secondary is solid with Gavin Sharpe, Tristan Gregory and Dylan Yarnell. Key road games against Beggs and Morris could determine
where this team finishes the season, but a favorable home schedule should give the Ponies an opportunity to face stiff competition on their own field. Checotah, Okmulgee and Cushing will travel to Kellyville this year. Everyone loves an underdog, but if you take a close look at what coach Robb is doing at Kellyville, you begin to wonder if they really are the underdog the experts are saying.

OFFENSE The Berryhill faithful take their football very serious. No one knows this better than head coach Pat Harper. The program over the years has enjoyed a lot of success, but that gold ball has eluded the Chiefs since that perfect season in 2004. Since then their record is 90-40 and includes a runner-up trophy in 2009. But all of that success is past history. Coach Harper and the Chiefs are focused on creating a new chapter in the storied book of Berryhill football. “It should be a very exciting season. Have more returning starters this year than last and have young players really stepping up. Think that we will be solid in all phases of the game,” coach Harper said. “We should have big play makers on both sides of the ball and return a very good kicker on special teams. Need to continue to improve throughout the season so that we can have a chance to make a run for it all in the post season.” Quarterback Jacob Bailey (6-0, 175, Sr.) returns to lead an explosive offense that features Josh Sharp (6-2, 185, Jr.) at running back and the quick Trey Walker (5-10, 160, Sr.) at receiver. The offensive line is certainly a strength for the Chiefs as tackle Jake Martin (6-3, 240, Sr.) returns with center Connor Cluck (6-0, 275, Sr.) and tackle Ryan Green (5-11, 285, Sr.). Balance is the goal on offense as coach Harper will run multiple sets and spread the ball around to the skill position players. DEFENSE The plan on defense is to stay in the 3-4 giving linebacker Nate Inhofe (6-0, 175, Sr.) an opportunity to have another impactful season as the leader of the defense. Outside
linebacker Dalton Burgess (6-1, 185, Sr.) brings speed and a nose for the ball to the field. The combination of Inhofe and Burgess spells trouble for would-be ball carriers. Corners Cory Alexander (6-1, 155, Jr.) and Corey Bradford (5-11, 150, Jr.) may be tested, but the coaching staff is confident they can step up to the challenge and make the play. Safety Brady Williams (5-11, 170, Jr.) is a heavyhitter that plays his safety at a high level of intensity. James Gaches (6-1, 270, Jr.) is a big reason the linebackers are going rack up a ton of tackles this season. Gaches will force teams to spend an extra blocker to keep him off their quarterback. “On defense we will be very aggressive and fast. It’s a defense that should cause problems for opposing offenses,” said Harper.

METRO CHRISTIAN PATRIOTS
Schedule: Aug. 26 – at Coweta Sept. 2 – Bye Sept. 9 – vs. OCS Sept. 16 – vs. Holland Hall Sept. 23 – at Poteau Sept. 30 – vs. Stilwell Oct. 7 – at Fort Gibson Oct. 14 – vs. Hilldale Oct. 20 – at Broken Bow Oct. 28 – vs. Rogers Nov. 4 – at Sallisaw Quick Hits: Very few schools in Oklahoma can compare to Metro Christian’s success of the past decade. The Patriots have recorded 16 straight winning seasons, ten of which have ended with nine or more wins.
OFFENSE If there is one thing people know about Metro Christian, it’s the Patriot offense is going to throw the ball around the yard. Head coach Jared McCoy expects more of the same in 2016. “We will distribute the ball to as many athletes as possible on offense. We want to get our athletes the ball in space,” said coach McCoy. That job falls to quarterback Dylan Bierman (6-2, 190, Sr.), another gunslinger in a long line of memorable QB’s. Bierman completed 45 of 63 passes for 558 yards and six touchdowns in limited action last season. Now he looks to take over the position and guide this high-powered Patriot offense. Two receivers looking to make an impact are Dalton Smallwood (5-7, 145, Sr.) and Donavan Nicholson (5-8, 165, Sr.).
Metro Christian hosts Oklahoma Christian School on September 9th. It will be the seventh consecutive meeting between the teams. Metro scored a big win 42-6 last year and has earned wins in four of the last six contests.
Mark down September 23rd on your calendar. That’s when Poteau comes to Tulsa to face Metro. The Pirates won the 2015 game 42-41 in double overtime while the Patriots took the 2014 game 35-33. Nik Thomas
Smallwood had 41 receptions for 571 yards and three touchdowns, while Nicholson caught 35 passes for 497 yards and seven touchdowns. Solid production from two players whose numbers are expected rise in 2016. Running back Robbie Johnson (5-10, 195, Sr.) is a big, durable back that accounted for more than 1,000 yards of offense last season. With 885 yards on the ground and 299 yards receiving, Johnson proved to be an all-purpose player with big play capabilities. An area that continues to improve is the offensive line. Jack Roe (6-3, 230, Sr.) and Cooper Rogers (6-0, 210, Sr.) must take on a leadership role and get this O-line ready to rock for their season opener on the road at Coweta.
DEFENSE Five starters return to the field for coach McCoy on the defensive side of the ball, but his focus is on the front seven and what they can get done this season. “Defensively we’ll continue to give multiple looks with our 3-4. Coach Taylor does a great job of making the complex, simple for the new kids he continues to plug into our defensive system,” said coach McCoy. Linebackers Coleman Davis (6-1, 190, Sr.) and Cade Kimzey (5-10, 195, Jr.) bring a lot to the table for the Patriots. Both guys play fast to the ball and love the physical aspect of the position. Look for Davis and Kimzey to have tremendous seasons. Outside linebacker Hayden Gurley (6-3, 195, Jr.) is the X-factor for this Patriot defense. Defensive end Landon Tedford (6-1, 197, Sr.) is quick off the edge and is football smart. Tedford has a quick first step and should be someone to watch. Also on the line is tackle Nik Thomas (5-11, 220, Jr.). Thomas works wells in close quarters and has the ability to beat most offensive linemen off the ball. The secondary will look to Joey Acker (5-10, 160, Jr.) for quality snaps as the team develops players who want to step up and fill holes vacated in the secondary by graduating seniors. The schedule loaded once again with familiar foes and with what could become a new rival in the Holland Hall Dutch.
VICTORY CHRISTIAN CONQUERORS OFFENSE Losing the second leading career passer in Oklahoma State High School Football history will likely be a tall task for the Conquerors with the graduation of Keats Calhoon. The multiple formation offense will benefit from the return of a pair of senior offensive linemen in Brooks Murray (6-1, 221) and Jonah Morrow (6-3, 282). Benefitting from the experience along the line will be Tyler Hicks (5-10, 160, Jr.) who totaled 1,563 all-purpose yards last season at running back including 16 touchdowns. Austin Butler (5-11, 188, Sr.) will also see time at running back giving coach Ron Smith options out of the backfield. The receiving corps returns a duo that combined for 10 touchdowns with Caleb Calhoon (6-2, 180, Jr.) and David Farmer (5-10, 173, Sr.). Calhoon hauled in over 600 yards receiving as a sophomore while Farmer was just shy of 200 yards last season.
DEFENSE Murray will anchor the defensive line for the Conquerors as he totaled 52 tackles, 13 for loss and three sacks last season. His tenacity from the defensive end position has drawn the eye of college coaches. Morrow will keep opponents honest and prevent teams from focusing on Murray completely at the first line of defense. RJ Wakley (6-2, 186, Jr.) tallied 94 tackles and three interceptions and senior Austin Butler posted 81 tackles a year ago. The duo should see their productivity increase at the linebacker spot. Calhoon will man the strong safety spot where he was a ballhawk last year with six interceptions, while Hicks will man another defensive back spot after tallying 56 tackles and two interceptions
Team of the Month Bishop Kelley Football
Year after year, the Bishop Kelley Comets football program led by head coach JJ Tappana are competitive in a district that features some of the top teams in Class 5A. In the last 10 seasons the Comets are 73-38 making the playoffs 9-out of-10 years during that stretch. That’s no surprising to the Bishop Kelley faithful, but when you consider the amount of wins and the trips to the playoffs you begin to understand how impressive the last decade of Comet football has been.
This season Bishop Kelley is poised for another run at a district title and coach Tappana told VYPE editor Brad Heath he believes they can improve from last season after losing to Collinsville in the last minute of the game in the playoffs a year ago. Offensively the Comets will feature running backs Reese Jones (5-10, 185, Jr.), David Caberra (5-9, 180, Sr.) and wide receiver Joe Nemic (6-1, 170, Sr.). This trio of playmakers gives the offense some serious
scoring potential, but the strength this season may be the offensive line. Kyle Urich (6-1, 260, Sr.) and Joe Tasker (6-1, 250, Sr.) lead a group of hog jousters that loves to get after it in the trench. Add tight end Michael Solomon (6-2, 230, Sr.) and you have a legit offensive line with Solomon as a key player in the passing game. VYPE Top 100 selectee Matt Smith (6-0, 210, Sr.) leads a talented defense that includes DI prospect Ryan Patrick (6-4, 220, Sr.). Both Smith and Patrick bring a high level of competitiveness to the field for the Comets. Bryce Alonso (6-3, 215, Jr.) gets the nod at outside linebacker giving the Comets one of the best groups of linebackers in Class 5A. Caleb Alvez (5-9, 170, Jr.) and Jake Jeffries (6-4, 220, Sr.) are
two more starters returning to the defensive side of the ball.
The schedule features an opening game versus Edison at home then the Comets go on the road to Bishop McGuinness where the shillelagh is up for grabs once again. Kelley currently holds the shillelagh and in coach Tappana’s time at Kelley he’s possessed it four times. The Comets finish their non-district schedule on the road at Sapulpa before starting district play at Collinsville on September 16th.

OFFENSE Optimism is high at Bishop Kelley coming into the 2016 season. Head coach JJ Tappana returns a good number of starters from a team that made the playoffs and were just a minute away from advancing to the next round. “We should be able to compete for a district championship. We lost to Collinsville in the last minute of the game in the playoffs last year. We think we can improve as a team from last year,” said coach Tappana. Offensively the line may be the strength for the Comets. Center Kyle Urich (6-1, 260, Sr.) and right tackle Joe Tasker (6-1, 250, Sr.) lead a salty group of linemen that love to get in the dirt and mud to mix it up. Add tight end Michael Solomon (6-2, 230, Sr.) to that group and you’ve got one of the top units in the class. Solomon will contribute to the offensive production in the passing game as well. Junior tailback Reese Jones (5-10, 185) will benefit from having such a solid front five. Jones has the power to run inside and the quickness to make guys miss in space. David Caberra (5-9, 180, Sr.) is another quick tailback coach Tappana will use to keep the defense guessing. Wide receiver Joe Nemic (6-1, 170, Sr.) has the speed to stretch a defense and the hands to make them pay. Six starters return to the offense for coach Tappana in his 11th season has head coach of the Comets. OFFENSE Head coach Joe Medina returns for his 18th season at Cascia Hall and has posted a 186-29 record since returning to his alma mater in 1999. The Commandos will return an experienced and talented squad as they return six starters on offense and eight on defense. Leading rusher Grant Ward (5-10, 190, Sr.) returns to the lineup for the Commandos. Last season Ward rushed for 1,016 yards and 172 carries and scored 11 touchdowns. The fullback position will be anchored by returning starter Brett Boone (6-1, 205, Sr.) with help from Lewis Guillory (6-0, 210, Jr.), who saw considerable action at the position as a sophomore. Up front the Commandos return two starters at guard in Sam Foster (5-10, 225, Sr.) and Joey Medina (5-9, 230, Sr.). Both are outstanding pulling linemen in the Commando power run scheme. Also look for Harrison McCormick (6-5, 260, Jr.), Chase Taylor (5-10, 180, Jr.), Anton Uhren (5-11, 180, Jr.) and Peter Nguyen (5-10, 205, Jr.) with senior Andrew Carter (58, 250) to compete for the remaining starting spots. Jackson McCormick (6-5, 205, Sr.) is a big target in the passing game and Tanner Swab probably has the team’s best hands. Davis Derr (6-1, 175, Sr.) and Cannon Montgomery (5-11, 170, Sr.) are also quality receivers on the roster. Davis Lambert (6-2, 215, Sr.) has been called one of the best tight ends during coach Medina’s tenure. The real battle for a starting role is at quarterback. Dalton Abney (6-0, 175, Jr.) and Colin Pomeroy (6-0, 170, Sr.) will battle it out to see who will lead the Commandos offense. Both are outstanding throwers and very athletic. DEFENSE The “Blue Swarm” defense will employ as aggressive 3-4 scheme this season. Boone will lead the way from his inside linebacker position. Last season Boone accounted for 121 tackles, 17 of those were for a loss. Cade Pruitt (6-0, 195, Sr.) returns to full
David Cabrera DEFENSE The story this season on the defensive side of the ball may be the tandem of Matt Smith (6-0, 210, Sr.) and Ryan Patrick (6-4, 220, Sr.) at linebacker. Smith was named to the VYPE Top 100 this summer, while Patrick has received a DI offer to play at the next level from the University of Tulsa. Both players are difference makers and seem to find their way to the play on every down. If that wasn’t scary enough add Bryce Alonso (6-3, 215, Jr.) at outside linebacker and you have a nasty trio of backers that play fast and hard for four quarters. The secondary features Caleb Alvez (5-9, 170, Jr.) and Joe Nemic. Their speed and ability to operate on an island allows the defense to free up the safeties for run support. On the line the man in charge is Jake Jeffries (6-4, 220, Sr.). The big senior will probably see a double team for most if not all of the season, but that will not slow Jeffries down. In fact you're probably just going to motivate him to fight harder to get to your quarterback. Look for Jeffries to make a name for himself this season. Leadership from Smith, Patrick and Nemic is crucial for the Comets in 2016.
Brett Boone time action after missing most of the 2015 campaign with an injury. Bennett Boone (6-0, 185, Jr.) provides outstanding depth at the position. Lambert will start at outside linebacker where he recorded 11 sacks last year. Lambert returns to start in his third consecutive season. The defensive line may be the strength for the Commandos defense. Kadar Cohlmia (6-1, 255, Sr.) and Jesse Wood (6-1, 290, Sr.) provide outstanding size and strength up front. Guillory and Johnathan Cowen (6-2, 220, Jr.) provide lightning quickness at the defensive end positions. Tristan Sims (6-1, 220, Sr.) will be counted on to compete for playing time. The secondary is experienced and athletic. McCormick is a fierce tackler and is getting attention from college recruiters. Derr joins McCormick at the safety position, while Pomeroy returns to football after a year hiatus to play basketball. Starting corner Miles Waller (5-9, 165, Sr.) is a solid football player against the pass and the run. Look for Hale Bollinger to compete for playing time.

OFFENSE Coming into the 2016 season the Cardinals do have a few holes to fill vacated by graduating players, but they return the nucleus of what could be the best Cardinal team of all-time. Especially if they can win their first state championship in football. Quarterback Seth Boomer (6-3, 190, Sr.) threw for 1,984 yards and 24 touchdowns last year. Boomer has committed to the University of Tulsa, but before he starts working out for the Golden Hurricane, Boomer is focused on making this the best season of his high school career. Running back Blake Burd (5-10, 195, Sr.) will play a significant role in the running game after proving he is capable of handling the rock in crucial points of a game. Burd rushed for 450 yards and five touchdowns a year ago. Receivers Brett Erickson (5-7, 155, Sr.) and Hayden West (5-9, 160, Jr.) are a dynamic duo in the passing game. Erickson had 937 yards receiving and seven touchdowns in 2015, adding to his career total of 1,277 yards. West also contributed 395 yards and four touchdowns. For the offensive line fans the Cardinals have two road-graders in Nathan Schaffner (6-6, 295, Sr.) and Eli Emmitt (6-4, 295, Sr.). Both guys have next level talent and are truly the security blanket for Boomer. “We lost a lot of great defensive players and Sam West at WR. So a lot of young guys will need to step up quickly. We also lost a lot of depth, so we have to stay healthy at key spots. If that happens we could make another run,” said coach Jones. DEFENSE The 3-4 defense is lead by linebacker Levi Draper (6-3, 225, Sr.). Draper is athletic enough to play some wide out on offense, but he earns his paycheck at linebacker. Last season he recorded 157 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions. In his career he has over 350 tackles and this offseason had what seemed like every school in the country after his services at the next level. Draper committed to the University of Oklahoma, but like Boomer, Draper is focused on 2016 and leaving his mark on the program. Joey Krupinski (6-1, 245, Sr.) will start at defensive
Seth Boomer end and give the Cardinals someone who can pressure off the edge and get after the quarterback. Krupinski had 48 tackles and four sacks last year. Jake Harrison (6-3, 335, Sr.) gives the Cardinals a big presence in the middle of the line. Harrison had two sacks and 26 tackles last season. Wide receivers Erickson and West will start in the secondary using their athleticism to disrupt the opponents passing game. Erickson grabbed three interceptions last season and West had 36 tackles. Spencer Oslin (6-1, 235, Jr.) plays opposite Krupinski at end. Oslin will also play on the offensive line.

OFFENSE New head coach Tim Holt takes over the Tiger football program bringing Tim Holt Sr. over from Catoosa to coach the offensive line. Eric Baker takes over as running backs coach as the Tigers look to run a high-tempo offense and spread the ball around to their skill players. “We want to continue raising the ball on a solid foundation coming off of a district title. We want to be able to sustain making some noise deeper in the playoffs every year,” said coach Holt. Corden Harrington (6-1, 170, Sr.) had 30 receptions for 700 yards and eight touchdowns last season. Harrington is a skill player coach Holt wants to get the ball and make plays with his natural ability. Running back Tazz Phorn (5-10, 180, Sr.) is coming off a productive year that witnessed him rush for 650 yards on 115 carries and eight scores. Phorn is the answer at tailback for the Tigers. His speed combined with his power allows the offense to use him in multiple ways. Quarterback Braden Calico (6-1, 220, Sr.) takes over for Jake Northern. Calico will enjoy having a seasoned line up front that includes VYPE Top 100 selectee David Castles (6-4, 265, Sr.) at left tackle and Grayson Snyder (6-0, 260, Sr.) at center. The grade on the line before the season starts is B+, but has the season gets going expect coach Holt Sr. to have this group at an A. In his first season at Coweta wide out De’Shaun Diaz (6-0, 170, Sr.) could be the X-factor in the passing game this season. DEFENSE Look for the Tiger defense to implement a lot of movement and pres-
David Castles sure as they get comfortable in the 4-2-5 defense. Defensive ends Jordan Waller (6-0, 190, Sr.) and Jason Guymon (6-0, 190, Sr.) are athletic ends looking to pressure the quarterback off the edge. Bear Hughes (6-0, 225, Sr.) will benefit from their work outside as Hughes will use his strength to power his way across the line of scrimmage. Linebacker Micah Thomas (5-10, 185, Jr.) may have a breakout season with the bad boys he has playing up front. Thomas works well off the block and has the ability to find the ball through traffic. A pair of safeties will roam the secondary looking to play spoiler this season. Sadrak Alinda (6-0, 180, Sr.) and Tyler Craven (5-10, 170, Sr.) bring leadership and experience to a secondary that will be tested all season. This unit must perform at a high level and prevent the home run plays. Facing quarterbacks from Wagoner, Noble, Shawnee and McAlester will certainly test their mettle.
GLENPOOL WARRIORS Coach: STEVE EDWARDS Enrollment: 687
Schedule: Aug. 26 – vs. Vinita Sept. 2 – at Skiatook Sept. 9 – at Tahlequah Sept. 16 – vs. Oologah Sept. 23 – vs. Edison Sept. 30 – at Durant Oct. 7 – vs. Noble Oct. 14 – at Shawnee Oct. 20 – vs. East Central Oct. 28 – vs. McAlester Nov. 4 – at Coweta Last 5 Years: 2015 - 4-6 2014 - 6-5 2013 - 5-5 2012 - 3-7 2011 – 7-5
OFFENSE Never a team to back down from a challenge, the Glenpool Warriors are headed to Class 5A where they will reside in district 5A-4 with the likes of Coweta, McAlester, Shawnee, Noble, Durant, East Central and Edison. There is no doubt it will be
a challenge, but head coach Steve Edwards and the team are ready to accept and compete in the new class. “We’re moving up to Class 5A this year. It will be a challenge, but we look forward to the opportunity,” said coach Edwards. Seven starters return to the offense this season including quarterback Colton Kane (5-10, 185, Sr.). Last season Kane threw for more than 800 yards and 12 touchdowns and rushed for more than 300 yards on the ground. One of this top targets will be senior wide receiver Jake Adams (6-1, 185). Joining Adams in the passing game is Paxton Straessle (5-11, 180, Sr.), another speedy receiver with good hands. Running back Caleb Bigpond (5-11, 190, Jr.) will carry the load in the running game, as coach Edwards will look to use multiple formations to keep the defense guessing. Chaz Riddle (5-9, 175, Jr.) is another multipurpose weapon in the Warriors arsenal. Look for Riddle to play a lot of receiver this season. The offensive line features Brent Zickefoose (6-0, 205, Sr.), an athletic and strong lineman the Warriors will use in the running game to reach those next level blocks. A familiar name to the Glenpool fans is Israel Maselera who will be joining the coaching staff and will coach wide receivers. Maselera was the quarterback of the 2008 state championship team. DEFENSE The always-tough Glenpool defense will have several players going both ways including Brent Zickefoose at linebacker and Straessle at safety. Jake Zickefoose (5-10, 185, Sr.) starts at outside linebacker giving the Warriors a pair of ball hawking thumpers named Zickefoose at linebacker. Add Devante Jackson (6-1, 210, Sr.) and you have a trio of backers that can make climbing the ladder in 5A a little easier. Brendon Ballard (5-10, 170, Jr.) joins Strasessle at safety adding more experience to the secondary for the Warriors. Clay Byassee (5-11, 170, Jr.) is a quick corner with closing speed that the Warriors may place on an island in coverage this year. The Warriors will run the 3-4 defense so finding defensive tackles that can penetrate and force the quarterback out of the pocket is crucial.

OFFENSE The Kiefer Trojans were hit hard with graduation losing 15 seniors off a team that went 10-2 last year, but head coach Josh Calvert has talent on the roster, they just lack experience. “We graduated 15 kids on a Class A team. That can really hurt a Class A squad. We will be inexperienced on both sides of the ball. Our young guys need experience to go with their talent,” said coach Calvert. Taylor Rovang (6-2, 210, Sr.) is a powerful running back opposing teams will look to stop, but Rovang has that X-factor and is expected to have a breakout season. The offensive line may be the strength for the Trojans, something Rovang will benefit from. Nick Rhoden (6-5, 240, Sr.) and Hunter Fulks (6-2, 250, Sr.) anchor a solid O-line that loves to grind it out and force their will on the opponent’s defensive line. With the running game hitting on all cylinders the Trojans will look to dominate the line of scrimmage and eat the clock. DEFENSE Defensively the Trojans will play both Rhoden and Fulks at tackle, while Rovang will start at defensive end. That trio of go-getters will cause problems for any offense in the district. Colin Crabtree (5-11, 175, Jr.) gets the start at safety where his speed and quickness to the ball will help the Trojans stop the run. Crabtree will also play quarterback on offense this season. that loves to make big hits and chase quarterbacks. Sneed’s speed will also be used on the offensive side of the ball at running back. Winning a district title might run through Hominy, but as the season gets closer to the playoffs the team will mature and players will understand what it will take for them to take it to the next level.

2, 230, Sr.) at the tailback position. In 2015 Johnson threw for nearly 1,000 yards and four touchdowns. Driver has the power to truck would-be tacklers thanks to his power and big frame. The offensive line can move the line of scrimmage with Morgan Smith (6-4, 250, Sr.) and Derick Banning (5-11, 240, Sr.). Their action up front will give Johnson and Driver opportunities to make plays on the ground or through the air. Matt Dillon (5-11, 175, Sr.) is the primary target in the passing game, but look for Blake Houston (6-0, 200, Sr.) to contribute as well. New tight ends/secondary coach Ed Yock continues to work with Houston on all facets of the game. DEFENSE A few guys will bounce to the defensive side of the ball of coach Meier including Driver and Dillon. Driver gets the nod at linebacker where many people feel he could play in college. Dillon will move to defensive back for coach Yock. Caleb Treat (6-0, 190, Sr.) lurks in the middle of the defense with Driver. The “Hard-Knocks Brothers” may be the best tandem of linebackers in Class 4A. One player you will take notice of when you watch Catoosa is Joe Westerman (5-10, 200, Sr.). Westerman is a force at defensive end setting the edge and getting after the opposing teams quarterback. Joining Dillon in the secondary is Tyler Birch (5-10, 165, Jr.) and Braden Potter (5-10, 170, Sr.). “We are excited about the 2016 season. We have had a great offseason and our kids have worked very hard,” said coach Meier. Another addition to the coaching
staff is Steve Howard who will coach the offensive line and defensive ends.

OFFENSE If there is one thing you need to remember about McLain football this years it’s the offensive line is on a mission. This group of salty, trench warfare loving, road graders are taking charge of the team and getting the job done. Dillon Hanika (6-0, 220, Jr.) and Hollis Tuggle (5-8, 265, Sr.) have a combine 50 pancake blocks. Hanika will start at center with Tuggle playing tackle. At guard look for Devon Pressley (5-8, 210, Jr.), another pancake eating lineman with serious intentions up front. Nathan Ezell (6-2, 260, So.) is a young tackle, but is learning the ropes from the upper classmen. The guys who will benefit the most from this battle tested unit is Troy Draper (5-7, 170, Sr.) at running back and Rayford Anderson (5-8, 250, Sr.) at fullback. With Anderson leading the
LINCOLN CHRISTIAN BULLDOGS
OFFENSE Despite being at the bottom of the enrollment numbers is Class 3A the Lincoln Christian Bulldogs and head coach Darren Melton have competed at a high level including making it to the state finals last season. The offense has undergone a few changes but one position that is in good hands is running back. Reed Martin (6-1, 210, Sr.) in his career at Lincoln Christian has rushed for more than 2,000 yards and scored 29 touchdowns. Last year he was a big part of the high-powered offense and his production landed him a VYPE Top 100 spot and the opportunity to compete for the Mr. Football Oklahoma title. Quarterback Landon Brown (6-2, 195, Sr.) takes the reigns of the offense this season. Last year Brown saw limited action, but coach Melton is confident he is the man for the job. “Offensively we feel like we will be able to run the ball. Brown will be able to get the ball to a bunch of new receivers. Our team has some guys that have been waiting their turn that we are excited about. If should be a fun year,” said coach Melton. One of those receivers is Austin Lindsey (6-2, 190, Sr.). A big target, Lindsey may have a breakout season of his own in 2016. Garrett Flanary (6-2, 275, Sr.) can play multiple positions including fullback, tight end and defensive line. Also a VYPE Top 100 selectee, Flanary has received several offers to play at the next level. Brendyn Harris (5-5, 140,
way, Draper looks to have a big year running behind this group of old school thumpers. New running backs coach Vincent David is ready to continue working the power running game that worked well for head coach Jarvis Payne Sr. last year. DEFENSE Leading the way on defense is linebacker Maquis Ezell (5-11, 240, Sr.). Ezell snatched up 88 tackles, four sacks and four fumble recoveries last year and should see the same type of production this season. Everette “Tre” Jones (5-7, 165, Jr.) picked off opposing quarterbacks four times last year and two of them were returned for touchdowns. He also added 43 tackles to his totals last year. Danaco Todd (5-10, 255, Jr.) is the force in the middle of the defensive line. Todd had four sacks with 59 tackles a year ago. Look for his production to increase as the defense bounces to multiple sets to confuse the offense. Ethan Blackwell (6-0, 215, Sr.) has the talent to lead the team in tackles. Blackwell accounted for 73 tackles and four sacks last year. He also had one fumble recovery. The secondary features corner Keith Smith (5-8, 165, So.) and Keon Neal (5-11, 170, So.). The two young defensive backs have the speed to start, which is huge for McLain in this pass happy district. “Defensively we are going to hustle and come after you,” said coach Payne. Added to the defensive coaching staff this year is Alfred Humphrey who will coach linebackers.
So.) and Micah Gardner (5-9, 190, Jr.) will help shoulder the load in the running game. Harris rushed for 355 yards on 69 carries last year scoring two touchdowns. DEFENSE Flanary is the key up front. At defensive tackle he had eight sacks and 61 tackles a year ago. Martin, also an important cog in the defensive wheel from his linebacker spot, will look to add to his career totals of 130 tackles, two sacks and nine interceptions. Brown will start at strong safety with Lindsey at one of the corner positions. Brown will pass the career 200-tackle mark this season. Gardner joins Martin at linebacker and look for Ian Whitmarsh (6-1, 185, Jr.) at defensive end. In 2015 Whitmarsh recorded 41 tackles and two sacks. A new defensive line coach in Joe Hawthorne will bring some new juice to the four-man front for the Bulldogs. “Defensively our front seven will have a chance to be good. We will need to develop some guys in the secondary,” said coach Melton

The Brad Calip era at Booker T. Washington has begun and the Hornet faithful are excited to see what the future holds. The Hornets won 11 games last season, but feel just short of their ultimate goal of winning a state title. But don’t look for coach Calip to rest on the success of seasons past. “Coming together is the beginning. Staying together is progress. Working together is the key to our success!” Coach Calip said.
Quick Hits: The Hornets completed their first unbeaten regular season since 2004. Booker T. Washington has won at least ten games in 13 of the last 24 years. Booker T. Washington will face quite a challenge in the 6th annual Battle on the Border in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Hornets will take on famed IMG Academy from Bradenton, Florida in the nightcap on September 10th. The Ascenders currently have 7 players in the Rivals Top 100 for 2017.
For the 11th consecutive season the Hornets will open the season against a team from the west side of the state. Booker T. hosts Edmond Santa Fe on August 26th in what will be the first ever meeting between the schools. Last 5 Years: 2015 - 11-1 2014 - 10-2 2013 - 7-4 2012 – 5-6 2011 – 4-6
The Hornets will run a spread offense giving the skill players opportunities to make plays in space. Daxton Hill (6-1, 175, So.) is a young talent, but he’s an electric player with game breaking skills at wide receiver. Dwayne Cooks Jr. (6-3, 160, Jr.) is another receiver on the roster the coaching staff is excited to see turn up the heat on defensive backs this season. Getting them the ball is quarterback Phillip Wheatley (6-0, 165, Jr.). Wheatley has shown a lot of improvement through spring ball and 7-on-7 play. Expectations are high for Wheatley, but with the help of a solid offensive line and an effective running game, coach Calip is confident Wheatley is the man for the job. Thomas Grayson (6-0, 185, So.) is a powerful runner with good vision and fearless when it comes to the inside run. It helps when you have guys like Braden Patton (6-3, 315, Sr.) at center and Jonathon Williams (6-2, 250, Sr.) at tackle. Their senior leadership is huge for this team as they find a new identity and continue to grow together as a team. Patton is a special player on the line. He can and has played all five positions up front, but what’s most impressive about Patton is that he shows up for work. Every day. Whether it is in the classroom or on the field. Patton has not missed a day of school since kindergarten and has maintained a 4.0 or above GPA throughout his high school career. “We will be a balanced spread attack. We have a group of future young stars who will lead the team this season,” said coach Calip. DEFENSE
A pair of VYPE Top 100 selectees will lead this
Kendall Sweet Rylan McQuarters defensive unit in linebacker Kendall Sweet (6-1, 200, Sr.) and corner Rylan McQuarters (5-10, 180, Jr.). Sweet recorded 33 tackles and two sacks last season and never seems to slow down on the field. From the first play to the last Sweet is running full speed looking to make another play. McQuarters is a special kind of athlete. Speed, agility and vision make him a dangerous kick returner and his natural ability at corner forces opponents to look the other way. In 2015 McQuarters had three special teams touchdowns and five interceptions. “Defensively expect a fast and swarming defense. The secondary will be one of the better groups around the state and the linebacker core will deliver big hits on opponents all season long,” said coach Calip. Hill will bounce to the defensive side of the ball and start at free safety where he accounted for 67 tackles and two interceptions last season. Joining Hill at safety is Quedon Baul (6-1, 190, Sr.). Baul is a hard-hitting strong safety with the speed of a cover corner. Senior Malik Thompson (5-9, 170, Sr.) will play opposite McQuarters giving the Hornets two guys not afraid to live on an island. Also look for outside linebacker Trace Linn (6-3, 185, Jr.) to become a household name this season. Linn is the old school type of player the Hornet fans will love. The coaching staff includes Ward White, Johnathon Brown, Donnte Pearson, Mickey Collins, William Coleman, Greg Meadows and Antonio Gillespie who will coach the defensive line.

EAST CENTRAL CARDINALS Coach: KEVIN GORDON Enrollment: 1091
Antonio Escobedo 2010 Kimmie Carson 2012 Stanvon Taylor 2012 Deontre Youngblood 2012 *Oklahoman All-State Selections
OFFENSE The Cardinal faithful are singing Welcome Back, Kotter to head coach Kevin Gordon as he makes his return to East Central. After a season of going 0-8 the Cardinals are ready to find their mojo and get this program back to its winning ways. “I’m very excited about this season. This will be season one for us and we have a great group of kids coming back and I look forward to the challenge of getting us back on top,” said coach Gordon. Gordon will look to sophomore Demecos Smith (6-1, 175) to lead this team from the quarterback position. Smith is a dual-threat quarterback with excellent speed if he’s forced out of the pocket. Bruce White (5-7, 175, Sr.) is the tailback the Cardinals are hoping can carry the load this season. Last year he rushed for 1,170 yards and should see those numbers increase this year. The “Sweathogs” up front have their work cut out for them this year, but look for guard Ezell Montana (6-1, 240, Sr.) and Kaleb Daniels (6-1, 290, Sr.) to lead this unit into battle and help the younger linemen mature in time for district play. Wide receiver Kevin Hill (6-2, 185, Sr.) has the size and speed to be a difference maker on the edge. Hill hasn’t met a route he doesn’t like and has game breaking speed. Another weapon the Cardinals have this season is kicker Abraham Luevano (5-10, 200, Sr.) giving the Cardinals

Bruce White another option and pinning the opposing team in their own end of kickoffs.
DEFENSE An aggressive, attacking style of defense is what you should expect from the Cardinals this season. Marquise Mullins (5-10, 185, Sr.) notched 120 tackles last season from his middle linebacker position. Mullins is a beast inside and has the ability to power his way through the offensive line and get to the quarterback. Weakside linebacker Kainen Jarrett (5-10, 185, Sr.) has the quickness to shine in the 4-3 scheme coach Gordon will implement this year. Also look for strong side linebacker Gunner Kriee (5-11, 190, Sr.) to be a force this season. This trio of backers has the potential to make this defense one of the best in the class. Defensive end Dallas Bradley (6-2, 210, Sr.) can become a superstar in the Cardinal defense thanks to his length and speed off the ball. Free safety Marquise Hilley (6-2, 175, Sr.) had 42 solo tackles last season and is one of the top defensive backs in 5A. The homecoming for coach Gordon will be short, but the players who buy into the system will become leaders on this team and will get the credit for helping this proud program return to the top of the division.

AUGUST 2016
CENTRAL BRAVES OFFENSE Head coach Don Gibson is in his third year at Central High School and is looking to make this his best season to date. The Braves return nine starters on offense and defense including quarterback Saboor Daniels (6-0, 175, Sr.). The senior signal caller has the talent to lead the team and run the offense coach Gibson has installed for the season. A more balanced attack, Daniels will be asked to get the job done through the air and on the ground. Running back Keyontae Walker (5-9, 170, Sr.) will shoulder the load of carries this season. Walker is a powerful runner with good vision and quick feet. A big reason the team is expected to have some success this season is the offensive line. Josh Neal (6-0, 275, Jr.) leads from the center position and will call the blocking schemes for the Braves. Tackle Kedrick Cotton (6-3, 287, Jr.) and guard Chase Johnson (5-11, 255, Jr.) are roadgraders looking to open holes for the running game. These punishers are fun to watch in the trenches. Wide receiver Andre Ramsey (5-9, 160, Jr.) adds another element of speed and athleticism to the offensive attack.
DEFENSE If you love linebacker play then you will love watching Larrion McBride (5-11, 215, Sr.) play his position. McBride is a hard-hitting backer with bad intentions when he meets the running back in the hole. His play will jack up the defense and get everyone’s motor running the red. Defensive tackle Roman Crawford (62, 315, Jr.) is an immovable force in the middle of the line. Crawford is the perfect compliment to defensive end Gaiden Deville (6-0, 265, Sr.). Deville has the power to overmatch most tackles in the class, while Crawford will certainly face double-teams for most of the season. The secondary for the Braves could be the strength of the defense. Safety Apollo Kaku (5-9, 165, So.) is young but has shown flashes of greatness, while a pair of corners look to lock down the field. Maurice Davis (5-9, 155, Sr.) and Rodney Williams (5-9, 165, Sr.) have good experience and a desire to be two of the best corners in the state. That drive will translate to big plays for this unit. “We look forward to the challenge of a new season and entering a new district. We return a lot of starters so our goal is to make the playoffs,” said coach Gibson.

OFFENSE This senior class holds a special place for many of the coaches on staff including head coach Ryan Reed. “This will be our first group that we’ve groomed since their freshman year. We are excited about the upcoming season,” said coach Reed. These guys have been in the system and understand what it takes to run the Flexbone offense under coach Reed. Running back Terry Robinson (5-8, 242, Sr.) was a 1,000yard rusher last season and is expected to match or exceed that output in 2016. Finding a quarterback is one of the top priorities of the offseason and competition is heating up. Whoever gets the job will have several guys to dish the too, including DI prospect and VYPE Top 100 selectee Isaiah Thomas (6-5, 230, Sr.). Thomas has committed to the University of Oklahoma, but before he puts on the crimson and cream, Thomas will don the red, white and blue for the Chargers. Thomas is a massive target and will start on the defensive side of the ball as well. All-State History: Tom Webb 1958 Ken White 1958 George Tasar 1959 Jon Running 1960 Bob Bigelow 1961
Jim Graham 1961 Bill Ross 1962 Scott Hall 1963 Mike Fanning 1963 Mike Goldberg 1966 Bob Nichols 1966
OFFENSE New head coach Tony Daniels takes over the Edison football program that features VYPE Top 100 selectee Marcus Mays (6-1, 175, Sr.) at wide receiver. Mays had 35 receptions for 545 yards last season. But coach Daniels understands just having a great player isn’t enough to win games. It takes a team to win games and that’s the direction coach Daniels is pushing the squad. “We’re having a great offseason so far and we’re excited about the up coming season with this team,” said Daniels. Playing next to Mays is slot receiver Robert Caldwell (5-10, 165, Sr.) who saw limited action last season, but has been impressive in spring practice. Eli Washington (5-10, 175, Sr.) is another big play receiver the coaching staff is hopeful can come in and be the No.2 guy. Running backs Leonard Foster (6-0, 180, Sr.) and Jyrece Haley (5-8, 160, So.) combined for over 300 yards rushing last season. Establishing a quarterback is the top priority right now. The Eagles have a couple of options, but coach Daniels plans to name a starter as practice gets underway in August. Expect the offensive line to get its fair share of competition as well. Younger players hungry for more of a role on the team have stepped up and are working hard to earn their spot.
Isaiah Thomas DEFENSE Rolle Wilson (5-8, 180, Sr.) recorded 115 tackles last season from his outside linebacker position. Wilson is the old school hammer at linebacker, while Dereco Sells (5-8, 150, Sr.) gets the start at corner. A true cover corner, Sells can hang with the quickest receivers in the class. Thomas will bounce to defense and play end for the Chargers. “We will be extremely aggressive on defense and play man coverage,” said coach Reed. That man coverage will allow the linebackers to attack to the play and pressure the quarterback from several different angles. Thomas at end is a destructive force that most teams will not have an answer for this season. The defense has the potential to be legendary. The type of stuff that parents will use as bedtime stories for future generations. These guys are ready to scratch, carve and chisel their names into the legends and lore of Memorial football. Spencer Tillman 1981 David Morrow 2013 *Oklahoman All-State Selections
DEFENSE Mays will plays both sides of the ball just as in years past. His play at free safety garnered him 44 tackles and two interMarcus Mays ceptions last season. Jerome Townsell (6-0, 180, Jr.) and Bryce Capron (6-0, 215, Jr.) are two linebackers the Eagles are ready to turn loose this fall. Townsell had 55 tackles as a sophomore, while Capron recorded 17 total tackles. Leland McKinney (6-0, 250, Sr.) will start on the defensive line. Outside linebacker Jamal Holmes (5-11, 185, So.) had 16 tackles in limited minutes a year ago and is expected to become the dominating linebacker the staff believes he can be for the Eagles. Coach Daniels expects his defense to play fast and aggressive. Expectations are high, but the Eagles are always ready for a challenge. Jim Harper and David Slatton were added to coach Daniels new staff with Isaiah Irvin, Bob Craig, Larry Buckley, Terry Bradford, James Manns, Wes Hamilton and Matt Trosper. AUGUST 2016

OFFENSE The Nathan Hale Rangers are getting back to basics this offseason and want to play fundamentally sound on both sides of the ball. Head coach Scott Chronister has hired a new coaching staff across the board and the players have an understanding of the expectations this season. “The kids are older and have had a chance to grow and get bigger, faster and stronger. They understand where they need to get to so they can be successful,” said coach Chronister. Casey Washington (5-7, 175, Jr.) is an electric running back that averaged 5.9 yards per carry last season. Washington will carry the bulk of the load this season for the Rangers. His offensive line has the size and talent to give him opportunities at big plays. Calvin Tyson (6-2, 240, Sr.) and Correy Gonzalez (6-1, 242, Sr.) bring a mean streak to the offensive line every coach looks for in the trenches. Tyson and Gonzalez must stay healthy and have solid performances this season. Quarterback Emile Douglas (5-11, 165, Jr.) could be the answer to the passing game for the Rangers. Douglas has several targets including tight end/wide out Jack Peterson (6-3, 175, Sr.) and Jahmad Jones (6-0, 165, Sr.). Both receivers have can make plays, but if the Rangers are going to compete this season the passing game must be on par and Peterson

and Jones must play like seasoned veterans. Also look for Isaiah Chatman to make an impact in the passing game this season. DEFENSE Coach Chronister will run the 3-4 defense, which fits his teams personnel very well. Pavel Martinez (6-1, 185, Jr.) and Jordan Barnes (5-11, 195, So.) will lead this defense from their linebacker positions. Martinez is the teams leading tackler from a season ago. Blake Pugh (5-11, 175, Sr.) also joins in on the fun giving the Rangers three quality linebackers that understand the 3-4 and work well within its scheme. Nose guard Anthony Rodriguez (5-10, 265, So.) may be the keystone to the entire unit. The young sophomore has a chance to be the story for the Rangers this season. His play on the line is crucial for the Ranger linebackers as they look to stop the plays at the line of scrimmage. Rodriguez is the key to making that happen. Desmond Jones (5-10, 180, So.) is another underclassmen looking to solidify himself as a dominate varsity football player. Jahmad Jones was the leading tackler in the secondary last year and is expected to have a repeat performance in 2016. Tyson will also play some defense either at end or tackle

AUGUST 2016
WILL ROGERS ROPERS OFFENSE The Ropers have a lot to look forward to this season including a big play offense that strikes quick with quarterback Layfette Wright (6-4, 180, Jr.) calling the shots. Wright has tremendous size and the athleticism to hurt teams through the air or on the ground. “We will have a strong passing game and a big play offense. We have raw talent that is very athletic and exciting to watch,” said coach Gilbreath. Keishun Johnson (6-0, 165, Jr.) and DeAndre Crooms (6-0, 170, Sr.) are two playmakers in the passing game that bring speed and hands to the field. Johnson and Crooms will take some of the pressure off running back Knotea Loften (5-8, 170, Sr.). Loften has another gear in open field and is affective running between the tackles. Speaking of tackles, look for Alvin Fowlkes (6-2, 285, Sr.) to anchor a young, but talented offensive unit. Fowlkes can play multiple positions on the line, but his experience could mean he stays at left tackle or guard. Overall the offense will be exciting to watch and if key players can stay healthy this team will give opponents fits with their speed
and athleticism. DEFENSE Four starters return to the field for the Ropers defense this season and coach Gilbreath will set up in the 3-4 utilizing the strengths the Ropers have up front. “We’re going to play physical with a strong front seven,” said coach Gilbreath. Daniel Kinsey (6-4, 290, Sr.) has a huge presence on the defensive line and is expected to have a breakout season in 2016. Defensive end Germaine Moore (6-0, 220, Jr.) will contain the edge and kick everything inside when he’s not running down quarterbacks from behind. Linebacker Kyron Fisher (5-10, 185, Sr.) is the spark that the Ropers are looking for this season. Fisher can hurt you on the blitz, stopping the run or reading the play and dropping into coverage. Kaleb Bethel (6-2, 190, Sr.) has DI size in the secondary. Bethel is one of the top returning players and if his talents shine this season, Bethel could find himself playing on Saturday. But before he signs that letter of intent he has to prove he’s a disciplined player that has a high football IQ and is willing to work harder than anyone on the field to make the play. The talent is there, the size is there, now Bethel needs to grab the opportunity and run with it.
DANIEL WEBSTER WARRIORS Coach: Kenny Jackson Enrollment: 488
Schedule: Aug. 25 – at Hale Sept. 2 – vs. Seeworth Sept. 9 – vs. NOAH Sept. 16 – Bye Sept. 23 – vs. Sperry Sept. 30 – at Mannford Oct. 7 – vs. Berryhill Oct. 13 – at Dewey Oct. 21 – at Capitol Hill Oct. 28 – vs. Verdigris Nov. 4 – at Sequoyah Claremore Last 5 Years: 2015 - 4-6 2014 - 4-6 2013 - 0-10 2012 – 1-9 2011 – 3-7
OFFENSE A fast paced offense that spreads the field is what head coach Kenneth Jackson is looking for his season. And he’s got the athletes to pull it off. Joshua Black (5-11, 170, Sr.) had 34 receptions for 669 yards and nine touchdowns last season. His production is the catalyst that gets this Warriors offense humming. Fellow wide out Devon Briggs (5-10, 170, Sr.) has the speed to stretch the field and the hands to make those circus catches look easy. Quarterback Omarion Shannon (6-2, 190, Sr.) is charged with getting his receivers the ball, but if things break down, Shannon has the option of running forcing the defense to spy Shannon at all times. Line play is crucial for the Warriors. Depth may be an issue, but two guys looking to assert their dominance are Jeffery Mansaker (5-8, 215, Sr.) and Lionel Cruz (5-7, 195, Sr.). If they can help the young linemen to mature and the right blocking calls can be made up front, this unit can give Shannon the time he needs to survey the field and find the open man. “We’re going to run the spread offense with a fast pace that keeps you on your toes,” said coach Jackson. DEFENSE The heart and soul of the defense is linebacker Derek Buggs (6-1, 195, Sr.). The senior comes into the 2016 season after grabbing 139 tackles, seven sacks and forcing three fumbles last season. The four-year starter is a team leader on and off the field. Joining Buggs at linebacker is junior Malik Dixon (6-3, 230). Dixon had 95 tackles and two sacks last season. The combo will give the Warriors a formidable pair of backers in the 4-3 scheme. Daylan High (6-2, 210, So.) will start at defensive end and Andre Garcia (5-11, 235, Jr.) gets the nod at nose guard. Look for pressure up front from Garcia, while High will set the edge and contain anything trying to go outside. In the secondary the Warriors will depend on Jaylon Horton (5-10, 150, Sr.) to
lock down one side of the field at his corner spot. Overall the defense doesn’t have as many hole as last season. More experienced players will translate to better play on the field. Coach Jackson and the staff at Webster are working hard to get this team to a winning season in a tough 3A-4 district that has Berryhill, Sequoyah Claremore, and Verdigris on the schedule.
REGENT PREP RAMS
COACH: ADAM BISHOP ENR: 86 2014 - 4-3 2015 - 8-1
OFFENSE After an 8-1 season last year the Ram faithful are excited to be playing for a district title and a possible run at a state title. Head coach Adam Bishop enters his fifth year at Regent Prep and said he’s excited to be eligible for the playoffs this season. Quarterback Parker Smith (5-9, 180, Jr.) is back to lead what coach Bishop calls an offense always looking to attack the defense. Running back Benjamin Bayless (5-11, 170, Jr.) will handle most of the running duties, while a pair of receivers, Johnathan Buskirk (6-2, 175, So.) and David Buskirk (6-2, 175, So.), give the Rams two solid options in the passing game. Senior guard Brady Leffingwell (6-0, 225) brings experience to the line and center Evan Shapleigh (5-10, 160, Jr.) will make the blocking calls. If the 2015 season was an indicator as to what we can expect from Regent this year, the Rams are poised for a memorable year. DEFENSE Seven starters return to the defensive side of the ball for coach Bishop. Bayless and J. Buskirk will start at linebacker giving the defense two quick, downhill players looking to attack the football. The secondary features Drew Mareburger (5-10, 150, So.), a fast, heady player that continues to improve with every outing. The defensive line has two stalwarts in Tyler McPheeters (5-10, 200, Jr.) and Joshua Haney (6-2, 150, So.) at end. Haney’s length and quickness will make it tough for teams expecting to find an open lane on the edge. Defensively the Rams have the majority of the team back giving them an advantage heading into the season. District play won’t be easy with games against Covington-Douglas, Pond Creek-Hunter, Medford, Bluejacket, Copan, Deer Creek-Lamont and Welch. *No Schedule Provided. Please send schedule to Oklahoma@VYPE.com and check back at VYPEOK.com
SUMMIT CHRISTIAN EAGLES COACH: TODD FULPS ENROLLMENT: 164 Last 5 Years: 2011 - 3-7 2012 - 6-5 2013 - 9-2 2014 - 3-7
2015 - 1-9
OFFENSE The first thing head coach Todd Fulps is looking for on offense is balance. The Eagles will look to use the spread offense to force opposing defenses into bad decision and capitalize by being a threat to pass and run. Peyton Robbins (5-10, 175, Sr.) did not play last season, but is expected to have a big impact from the running back position in 2016. Gordon McAuliff (5-9, 205, Sr.) is another skill position player who spent much of last season injured. Both players return this season and that has the coaching staff excited about the possibilities. Fellow running back Michael Piper (6-0, 210, Sr.) rushed for 300-plus yards last year and provides the team with another great option in the overall scheme of the offense. Junior quarterback Bradley Fritch (6-0, 150) threw for 1,500 yards as a sophomore and in this scheme he should see those numbers increase. A pair of receivers will find their way into the starting lineup. Connor Dunnam (60, 175, Sr.) and Adam Smith (5-8, 150, Jr.) should emerge as big-time players this season. Last year Dunnam had over 600 yards receiving, while Smith did not play due to injury.
DEFENSE Nine starters return to the defensive side of the ball for the Eagles. Leading tackler Daniel Giddens (6-0, 200, Jr.) is back after having nearly 200 tackles in 2015. Giddens is one of the top linebackers in the class and has people taking notice. Kieren Tabor (6-0, 240, Jr.) is a two-way player and a three-year starter on the offensive and defensive lines. Luke Fieker (6-5, 225, Jr.) also plays both offense and defense and will join Tabor in the trenches on defense. Ryan Gibson (6-0, 200, Jr.) did not play last season, but joins Piper at defensive end. Alex Bradley, former Broken Arrow Tiger standout and brother to Archie Bradley, will take over as defensive coordinator, while Quinton Goodson will coach the defensive line and Nick Yacovazzi will coach receivers. REJOICE CHRISTIAN EAGLES COACH: BRENT MARLEY ENROLLMENT: 155 LAST 5 YEARS: 2011 - 8-1 2012 - 11-2 2013 - 12-1 2014 - 6-6 2015 - 9-4
OFFENSE Rejoice Christian head coach Brent Marley wasted no time in getting
the Eagles to a winning season and earning some respect in a competitive district. But the 2016 season will see some new faces in positions that were occupied by real playmakers. “We will have a lot of new contributors in 2016. Hopefully a handful will rise to the challenge and earn the title of “playmaker.” The purpose, however, of molding young men in Christ does not change,” said coach Marley. Cade Henson (5-10, 175, Sr.) averaged 14.1 yards per catch last year and completed 21 of 36 passes as a quarterback. Bryce Sanchez (6-0, 185, Jr.) had 31recpetions for 402 yards and four touchdowns averaging 12.9 per catch. Don’t look past wide out Kaleb Brim (5-10, 150, Jr.) who added eight receptions for 112 yards. The trio will give any defense fits. Guard Carson Danley (6-0, 250, Sr.) is the pillar of the offensive line that returns everyone but one player. Also look for Matt Nicholson (6-3, 175, Jr.) and Chapman Pennington (6-3, 175, Jr.) to see significant playing time this year. Pennington, Henson and freshman Riley Walker are all battling for the starting QB job.
DEFENSE Several players will pull double duty for coach Marley including Henson at free safety where he had six interceptions and Sanchez at linebacker. Sanchez recorded 55 tackles, two sacks and three interceptions last year. Accepting the invitation to the join the linebacker corps is Hunter Perry (6-0, 200, Sr.). Perry has the talent to perform at a high level. Perry is no stranger to accepting challenging situations as coach Marley points out. “Hunter went on three mission trips last summer and is currently in Tanda, Africa serving at Rejoice Bilingual Academy. Hunter is a leader for Rejoice Church’s junior high youth group. He treats all the junior high boys like he is their big brother looking out for them.” Clayton Hurst (6-1, 220, Jr.) will start at defensive end where his speed and agility will be showcased. And look for Joel Woods (6-3, 295, Sr.) to join Danley on the defensive line. Last season Woods had 24 tackles and a sack. Rejoice Christian hired strength and conditioning coach Marty Barnett who at Moore High School last year and was on coach Marley’s staff when he was the head coach at Victory Christian. HOLLAND HALL DUTCH OFFENSE The Dutch enter their first season of OSSAA play with a roster that quickly became experienced following a number of injuries last year. Sophomore quarterback Drake Roush took the reigns following a season ending injury to his older brother and showed promise for the future throwing for more than 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing at a 3.5 yard per carry pace. He’ll be joined in the backfield by Joe Smith (5-9, 185, So.) and Cole Turgeau (6-0, 160, Sr.). Both backs are a threat in the passing game and are a threat between the tackles and in the open field with a combination of power and speed. Roush will need to find a consistent target following the injury to one of the most dynamic players in the Tulsa metro area in C.J. Thompson (6-1, 165, Sr.). In two seasons the shifty receiver totaled 11 touchdowns on just 28 receptions for over 500 yards. One option for the Dutch sophomore gunslinger will be Vance Mullendore at tight end. DEFENSE At linebacker the Dutch will rely upon Cole Turgeau to be a force from sidelineto-sideline after racking up more than 150 tackles in the last two seasons combined. The sophomore Mullendore along with John Connor (5-9, 155, Jr.) will round out the linebacker corp. In the defensive backfield Thompson will bring his playmaking abilities at one corner spot while

Cole Turgeau juniors Max Kazarian and Corbin Daniels along with sophomore Sam Nunnelee will look to fill out the other spots. The experience gained last year by a young defensive unit that forced 15 turnovers will look to produce more of the same this season. Joey Bufogle returns along the defensive line and could fill the production hole left by Anthony Armour who signed with Missouri State this spring.
