Stilettos to Stetsons: Women on the Trail

Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Mayborn Museum Complex

Janice Grelle, female cattle rancher, details the true story of how a British schoolteacher became a Texas cattle rancher and how women navigated the cattle drives on the Chisholm Trail. Grelle’s book, Stilettos to Stetsons, will be available for purchase and signed. Admittance to the lecture is free for members and included in general admission for the public ($8 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $6 for children). Coffee and pastries will be provided prior to the lecture.

Professor Bob Darden to Discuss Black Gospel Music

During Historic Waco Fall Lecture August 24th, Baylor Professor Bob Darden will share his expertise on the fascinating topic of “Music That Matters: The Enduring Power of Freedom Songs,” at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Lee Lockwood Library. Find a Way, Not an Excuse: Women in STEM presents the lives of 19 women and their contributions to the science, technology, engineering, and math fields, including five from Baylor University. From the clothes we wear to the phones we use, and from the food we eat to the health of our bodies, our quality of life has been improved by female pioneers in STEM. Women have contributed in STEM fields for generations, often without credit. The exhibit focuses on pioneering innovations in STEM with the hope of inspiring a fierce desire to learn continuously and encourage curiosity to lead to discovery.

SPEED: Science in Motion Through September 3, 2017

Visitors can challenge themselves through hands-on exhibits and displays, to see if they have the skills, fitness and reactions to race at over 125 miles per hour.
