Stilettos to Stetsons: Women on the Trail

Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Mayborn Museum Complex

Janice Grelle, female cattle rancher, details the true story of how a British schoolteacher became a Texas cattle rancher and how women navigated the cattle drives on the Chisholm Trail. Grelle’s book, Stilettos to Stetsons, will be available for purchase and signed. Admittance to the lecture is free for members and included in general admission for the public ($8 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $6 for children). Coffee and pastries will be provided prior to the lecture.

The Central Texas Literacy Coalition will host its quarterly meeting on September 13, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the Texas State Technical College Aero Space Center, Airline Drive and 6th Street, Waco, TX 76705. The meeting will include a presentation of monetary awards to chosen literacy programs in observation of International Literacy Day and information and tour of the TSTC Aero Space Center. Find a Way, Not an Excuse: Women in STEM Now – March 25, 2018

Find a Way, Not an Excuse: Women in STEM presents the lives of 19 women and their contributions to the science, technology, engineering, and math fields, including five from Baylor University. From the clothes we wear to the phones we use, and from the food we eat to the health of our bodies, our quality of life has been improved by female pioneers in STEM. Women have contributed in STEM fields for generations, often without credit. The exhibit focuses on pioneering innovations in STEM with the hope of inspiring a fierce desire to learn continuously and encourage curiosity to lead to discovery.

Galloping for Grannies

Postponed to a date TBA in the Spring 2018. Due to effects of Hurricane Harvey, Galloping for Grannies benefiting Friends for Life regrets that it is necessary to postpone our Galloping for Grannies 5K event. We will be focusing our attention at this time on our clients in Galveston and Corpus Christie. We will let you know the new date (probably in the spring) as soon as possible. The Waco Coin Club is sponsoring the annual Waco Fall Coin Show on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Bellmead Civic Center, 3900 Parish St. 76705. Collectors and dealers from Central Texas and around the State will be buying and selling U.S. and foreign coins and currency, gold and silver.
