SIGN HERE, PLEASE
Signing the wedding guestbook has long been a tradition. In the past, guests signed the book after the ceremony, acting as witnesses.
Today, guests are signing the book before the ceremony, providing a record of their attendance and offering their good wishes to the couple. While guestbooks continue to be popular, many couples are breaking out of the box and having guests sign something different. Almost anything can serve as a wedding guestbook, as long as guests can sign it. Couples can set up a memory jar in lieu of a guestbook and have guests tuck good wishes inside it. They can set up a recipe box and have guests tuck a recipe, along with their good wishes, inside it. They can set out some self-addressed, prepaid postcards and have guests mail the cards to them on their honeymoon. Fabric can easily be signed and makes a wonderful wedding guestbook alternative. All guests need are some fabric pens and a blanket, pillow, quilt or quilt squares to sign. T-shirts are another idea. Couples can set out a few inexpensive T-shirts for guests to sign. Furniture is another great guestbook alternative. Almost anything will work for the project from benches to chairs to tables. Guests could sign an old steamer trunk, for example, and the couple could finish it by decoupaging it with postcards from their honeymoon travels. When selecting a piece of furniture to serve as
the guestbook, couples need to make sure there is plenty of space for guests to sign it. Couples having a themed wedding will want to look for something that fits within the theme. Seashells, for example, work well for beach weddings. Guests can turn the shells over, sign them and slide them into a wicker basket or a shallow bowl. Couples end up with a great accessory for their home and a memento of their wedding. Couples who are sports fans might want to look into having a jersey, pennant or some sort of equipment signed. Who could resist smiling during a game of bowling when using a ball, shoes and bag signed by the guests who attended their wedding? Ceramics are another idea. Couples could drop by a local pottery shop and arrange for a large platter, bowl or a set of coffee mugs for guests to sign. When the wedding is over, couples could return to the pottery shop to have the pieces fired. These are just some ideas for guestbook alternatives. There are many others from wine bottles to rocking chairs. Whether you choose to go the traditional or alternative route, you will have a nice memento of your big day and all of the people who took time out of their busy lives to wish you well.

WRITTEN PROPOSAL IN CHALK The story of how Craig Stadum and Nickole Maves became engaged.
Craig decided to ask me to marry him by writing the words in chaulk line on our lawn in the grass. He was very vervous about the issue with the chalk line fading away with any moisture. Anyway, he had some partners in crime to finish his task. He had asked some good friends of ours to spread the chalk line in the grass so that it would say “Nickole will you marry
me�. We went out on a Saturday, September 21, 2014 evening to an area event. While we were there eating and visiting, some of our friends were spreading the chalk line in the grass. Then while we were at the event it started to sprinkle outside. Well that dashed his scheme!! He was so worried that the chalk line would disappear because of the rain. So, then he
askd me to go home in a hurry!! He drove back home with the pedal to the metal!! When we got home from the evenings event it was dark. Wedding rings come in all styles, and new designs are produced every year, providing brides with endless choices. Here is a brief look at some of the latest trends.
While round brilliant cuts were once the norm for wedding rings, you'll find a wide range of cuts today. Some of the more popular ones include the emerald cut, which has a vintage appeal and makes the stone appear larger than it is, and the pear cut, which also has a vintage appeal and works well with smaller carat stones. Cushion cut is also popular. The large facets can really make a stone shine. Wedding ring settings have also changed. Halos continue to be popular. In this type of setting, a border of smaller stones frames a larger stone in the middle, making it appear larger. Double halos feature even more brilliance with two borders of smaller stones framing the larger stone in the middle. Floral halos are also popular and feature a
border of smaller flower-like stones framing a larger stone in the middle. For active brides, a bezel setting is ideal. In this type of setting, a metal rim showcases the stone in the middle and holds it securely in place. For brides looking for something different, there are a number of options, including bypass settings, twisted settings and the east-west setting, in which an oval, marquise or emerald cut stone is set horizontally. Any of these is sure to catch the eye. More and more color is also making its way into wedding rings. White diamonds remain popular, but for brides wanting more, there are canary yellow diamonds, cognac diamonds, champagne diamonds and more. Some rings even feature gemstones, a white diamond surrounded by sapphires or
rubies, for example. Bands may or may not be gold. White platinum is hot, and pink gold and blackened metals are options. Mixed metals are popular as well. Picture a diamond perched atop a white and yellow gold twisted band or a stack of eternity bands in various metals. Stacked rings are hot right now, as are vintage styles and organic floral styles. Wedding rings are not the only area designers are focusing on. Bridal jewelry in general continues to evolve, with larger, bolder hair accessories and necklaces now available, including shoulder necklaces that stretch across the neck and shoulder blades. Whether you choose to follow the trends or create your own is up to you. It is your wedding after all. You should wear jewelry that appeals to you.

While some brides and grooms forgo a large wedding cake in favor of a dessert bar or a cake on every table at the reception, others clamor for a the tradition.
They can't picture not having a magnificent cake to ooh and ahh over and feed each other later. If you are among them, here are some tips to ensure you get the cake you want. Know what you want. Do some research well in advance of any cake tastings. Browse bridal magazines and websites. Check out bakery windows and books. Attend some bridal shows. Cut, print or take photos of any and everything you like. You might like the shape of one cake and the piping of another. Create a scrapbook of the features you like, and if you know the colors of your wedding, add in some fabric swatches. Study your scrapbook in great detail and rank the features you like best. If you have any artistic skills or know someone who does, you might want to have some sketches done of your ideal cake. The more you have to show bakers in the future, the better chance you will receive the design you want. Set a budget. Generally, the larger the cake and the more intricate the design, the more it will cost to make. Determine both what you would like to spend and what you are willing to spend. Have a top dollar in mind,
an amount you absolutely will not go over, and stick to it. Understand that you may have to make some compromises and be willing to take some cost-cutting measures. Opt for a few faux tiers in favor of several expensive tiers, or restrict the more expensive designs and flavors to the smaller tiers. Order a smaller, more elaborate wedding cake for the cake table and inexpensive sheetcakes for guests. Choose a good baker. Look for reputable bakers that specialize in wedding cakes and set up appointments with them. Show them your scrapbook and sketches and discuss how feasible your ideal wedding cake would be. If you are having your reception outside in the dog days of summer, for example, you may find out that the intricate design in buttercream frosting you have your heart set on wonﾃ付 work. The baker might recommend a design in fondant instead, as it will hold up better in the heat. Ask the baker for an honest assessment of your sketches and listen to what they have to say. Discuss colors and flavors, and arrange for a cake tasting if possible. Discuss timelines and costs. Present your budget and ask for an estimate.
Good bakers will do their best to work within your budget and find ways to cut costs. Order early. Donﾃ付 walk into a bakery a few days before your wedding and expect a masterpiece. Good bakers are busy. Start the process early and donﾃ付 sign a contract until you are satisfied with the terms and have reviewed them in detail. Know exactly what you are getting and when it will be delivered, as well as what any last-minute changes or add-ons will cost you. Check in often. Call the baker a couple of weeks prior to your wedding and make sure the cake will be ready on time. Orders can get lost, especially during the busy wedding season. Check back in with the baker a few days before and make sure everything is going smoothly. If possible, drop by to see whatever may be in process. That way, you will know what you are getting and there will not be any surprises, like the wrong color of icing. Wedding cakes can be expensive, and they are not something that can easily be redone. Do your homework. Have a design and a budget. Choose a reputable baker and check in with them occasionally.

Receptions used to be the place where guests mingled among food and friends and danced the night away before seeing the bride and groom off on their honeymoon.
While great for guests who liked to dance, receptions did not offer guests who would rather not dance much to do other than to sit around and chat. If you were seated next to someone you knew, great. If not, you better prepare for a lot of small talk. But, now things are changing. Today many brides and grooms offer a variety of activities in addition to dancing to bring guests together and keep them entertained. Couples are recognizing that guests may not know each other and are incorporating ice breakers into their receptions. These can run the gamut from mad libs to trivia quizzes to story time. Instead of making small talk about the flower arrangements, for example, guests can
get to know each other as they reflect on an episode in their life in the year the penny next to their plate was made. Once the ice is broken, couples can keep the fun going with games that everyone can play. Bingo, garter relays, musical chairs, scavenger hunts and trivia quizzes are all games that can build camaraderie and keep guests entertained. In addition to helping guests get to know each other through group activities, couples are also recognizing the need for individual activities other than dancing. They are setting up tables for guests to play cards and board games and TVs and game consoles for guests to play video games. They

are bringing out the basketballs, lawn darts and croquet sets for guests who like to be outdoors. With more to do, many guests are staying longer, making all of the time and money spent in planning the wedding more worthwhile. While some couples opt for the traditional reception dinner and dancing, others are going for a more laidback atmosphere, providing a wide range of activities for guests to take part in. The choice is yours. You can throw in some ice breakers amid dinner and dancing, or you can go all out and provide games and activities from beginning to end. Consider the needs of your guests and plan accordingly.

Grandparents are special people, so special many brides and grooms choose to honor them in their wedding.
There are many ways to go about this from having grandparents serve in the wedding party to having ushers escort them into the wedding ceremony to writing a dedication to them in the wedding program. But, what do you do if your grandparents are no longer with you? How do you pay tribute to them? Traditions are an important way to honor grandparents no longer living. Research your grandparents' weddings. Are there any traditions you can carry on? Can you get married on the same date or in the same place? Can you recite a beloved poem or verse? If not, can you incorporate any of your grandparents' wedding attire into yours? Following the 'something old' tradition, perhaps you could wear your grandfather's top hat or your grandmother's veil. Perhaps you could use their cake topper or feature their wedding rings in your bouquet.
Photographs are a lovely way to remember grandparents no longer living. You can gather photos of your grandparents, perhaps of their wedding day, and include some in your wedding program. You can display the rest around the reception or use them as centerpieces for each table. You can even set up some photos of your grandparents on the favors table and donate to a charity in their honor in lieu of favors. Flowers are another way to pay tribute to grandparents no longer living. You can arrange to leave a seat open at the ceremony for each grandparent you want to honor and place a flower in the seat. You can have your florist insert a special flower into your bouquet for each grandparent you want to honor or have them recreate your grandmother's wedding bouquet altogether for you to carry or display. You can have your florist create centerpieces from your grandparents' fa-
vorite flowers for use in the ceremony and the reception. Music and food are also ideas. What were some of your grandparents' favorite tunes? Perhaps you could include a few in the playlist for your reception. The same goes for food. What were some of your grandparents' favorite foods? Perhaps you could include some of them in the dinner menu or pass them out as favors. If your grandmother adored chocolatecovered cherries, perhaps they could serve as your favors. However you choose to remember your grandparents in your wedding, make sure you let guests know about it in the program. You’ll need music throughout your wedding, and if you would like, you can leave everything up to the professional of your choice. You can hire a band or DJ and request they line up music for the entire event, or you can play a more pivotal role. Either way, here are some factors to consider. SETTING Where are you getting married? In a church? At a park? On the beach? Find out if there are any restrictions in place at the venue regarding music. Some venues may not permit live music, for example, due to space constraints or power supply limitations. If there are no restrictions in place, consider the tone of the venue. Religious settings may call for more traditional music styles, whereas outdoor settings may allow for a wider variety of music styles. Keep in mind that sound will carry outside and extra care may have to be taken to ensure no noise ordinances are broken. Finally, check with your officiant. They might also have some restrictions in place regarding music. PREFERENCE What styles of music do you prefer? Live or recorded? Vocals or instrumental? Classical or jazz? If possible, try to have a wide range of music played at your reception to suit all tastes, especially if you have a dance floor. THEME Do you have a wedding theme? If so, you will want music that suits it. While you might like heavy rock, it may not work for your small country wedding. A violinist, on the other hand, might do a great job. BUDGET Cost is always a concern. How much can you afford to spend on music? Live music generally costs more than hiring a DJ, unless you have your sights set on a celebrity DJ. If you would like to have live music but don’t have a big budget, you might want to find a compromise. Perhaps you could have a harpist at your wedding ceremony and a DJ at your reception. If you know a friend or relative who is a talented musician, perhaps you could ask them to play at your wedding for a reduced fee or in lieu of a wedding gift. Whatever direction you take with the music for your wedding, make sure you do your homework. Get referrals for potential hires and take the time to check them out.
