All Welcome
Last Saturday in Month Coffee & Chat Come along meet some old friends, make some new friends, have a drink and a biscuit, short topical talk at 11ish 10.00 am – 12.00 noon in the Parish Room, St John the Baptist, Wadworth
Mid-week Groups Every week in St. John the Baptist, Wadworth a group meets to have a chat, a drink, some homemade cake, read and discuss the Bible. Come and join us as we explore God’s word. Contact the Vicar for further details. Every Tuesday from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon at St. John the Evangelist, Balby (on Greenfield Lane) “Cups and Cake Coffee Shop” - SERVING FREE CAKES, SCONES, COFFEE, TEA - call in for a chat , a rest. Beautiful place for a drink! Every Tuesday at 7.30 pm in The Vicarage, Vicarage Drive, Wadworth a group is reading its way through “The Story” -a combination of the two books of the Bible - Luke and Acts - and by reading them together we get drawn into the epic story of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection and then into the world of His early followers as Christianity spreads across the globe. We will offer this opportunity again in the New Year. See page 20. First Sunday in the month at 6.30 pm Something Different For those who are seeking something different from a church service. We start with homemade cakes and drinks and then move into a period of praising God. The theme is linked into a secular song. We finish with some more praise and some prayers. Individual prayers for healing are available at the end of the service.

The Vicar Writes . . . . . Having spent some months talking about our Mission Action Plan (MAP) we have reviewed what we have done and what we planned to do. We have also prayed and discussed about things that may need to be added to the MAP. I am grateful to all who have contributed. We can now publish a revised MAP this summer with some things that we hope to achieve this year.
Please speak to me if you are interested. Perhaps come along and see how Saint Francis in Bessacarr organise their youth work. Also beginning in September is a resource to pregnant mothers and mothers with young children. We have combined with Balby Children Centre to put together a programme of eight rolling talks - so once we have completed the eight talks we will start again. Topics will include:- being pregnant, giving birth, breast feeding, parenting in the early years, bonding with children, how your child should grow. This will happen at 1:30 pm on a Tuesday and is open to all pregnant mothers at any time during their pregnancy.
Starting in September on the third Sunday of each month will be an all age service at 4 pm. We will have some crafts, a bible story and some worship followed by refreshments. It is for all ages. We need volunteers to help set up and be at the service to help with crafts and refreshments. if you are interested in this then we will be having a meeting in August.
Play specialists from the children centre will be on hand, so if you have an older child who is not at school or nursery there will be somewhere for them to play during the sessions, for mums to be able to listen. Refreshments will be available in a different part of the church, so there is a place to have a chat before or after the sessions.
Through the Crossways Mission Partnership, we now have a youth worker, Annabel Stott, who started work in June. We need to encourage our young people to a service
We will have a toy table and also a baby clothes table. If you have any toys or any baby clothes to donate then please bring them to the vicarage in Wadworth
specifically for them at 4pm on the second Sunday of each month at St Francis Bessacarr. Are you interested in working with our youth?

or to Balby church on a Tuesday morning. We are also looking for volunteers to take charge of the baby clothes table and toy table - could this be you? Now many would argue that this is provided by the National Health Service but if you have tried to access antenatal classes recently in Doncaster you will find that it's not easy and you are often referred to a paid for service offered by the NCT. We are trying to offer a free access vital service that is accessible and local.
I am reminded of part of the Prayers of St Teresa of Avila (1515-1582)
Christ has no body now, but yours. No hands, no feet on earth, but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks With compassion on this world. In Christ alone my hope is found.

RECEIVED WITH THANKS!!!!! The bible tells us that those who give will also receive….well if that is the case then many people are going to receive! I just have to say a big thank you on behalf of so many organisations for the generosity of the people of the parish, their friends and relatives….
particular contact with the ones on a Sunday eve…here not only is a hot meal provided, but a takeaway bag of sandwiches, fruit etc (depending on what has been donated) are given to provide another meal. The people are also given clothing (t shirts, jumpers, socks ).
The collection of knickers and bras (which caused much hilarity and mildly rude comments) weighed 24kg! (in old money thats 53 lb) that is a lot of knickers and bras! They have now been sent to Scotland where they are sorted and sent on their way.
Moving further afield Tearfund have just been helped by the generosity of those who have supported the lent project this year, over £2000, amazing… the money will be used to bring water to villages who until now have had to rely on young girls carrying huge amounts of filthy water on a daily basis…It is hard to imagine….we only have to be told that our supply will be interrupted for a day and panic filling of pans bottles and baths ensues!
The food bank….as you may know Michael and Brenda coordinate the collection each week….this is a vital part of survival for some families. The food bank not only gives food for immediate help, but has staff that can inform and point people in the direction to help them with various areas of finance and employment.
Lets not forget the shoe boxes that you have sent to sailors at Christmas….the list goes on and I know I will have forgotten something!!
Homeless.....there are many people homeless in Doncaster, either living rough on the streets, camping in make shift tents by the river or moving around from friend to friends houses. The problem is huge and a complicated one to tackle but at least with your help clothing and sleeping bags and bedding have been provided. Where the homeless have managed to find accommodation again you have helped by providing “household stuff”. Volunteers provide hot food on various nights in the market…....we have
Giving should always be done from a generous heart, not a grudging heart and I pray that your generous hearts will continue to work over time…I make no apology that I am always asking for things…I think the bible also says something along the lines of ask and you will receive…. Received with thanks!

Doncaster foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust’s UK-wide foodbank network. This helps local churches and communities to open foodbanks, providing emergency food to thousands of people nationwide every year. By donating to the foodbank you can help support local people in crisis.
CAN YOU HELP? Foodbank Shopping List
1 IN 5 PEOPLE ARE LIVING BELOW THE POVERTY LINE IN DONCASTER Today in Doncaster there are families struggling to put food on the table. For people on low incomes, a sudden crisis redundancy, benefit delay or even an unexpected bill - can mean going hungry. Every day parents skip meals to feed their children and people are forced to choose between paying the rent and eating. Doncaster foodbank provides emergency food and support to local people in crisis.
A GIFT OF FOOD DOES MORE THAN JUST FILL EMPTY STOMACHS Foodbanks help to prevent family breakdown, housing loss, crime and mental health problems. We also take time to listen and signpost people to further support.

From the Diocese Bishop Peter writes . . . . . . . Young Enterprise As you know, since moving to Doncaster a few years ago, I’ve been a great supporter of the Borough, the people and the potential it has in the region.
people to develop the knowledge and attitudes they need to succeed through enterprise.
A number of Doncaster schools have competed in this year ’s Young Enterprise Project with teams from the schools forming their own companies, One thing which particularly stands out marketing and selling their own at the moment, are the strides being products. In fact, one of our own made in education, and the potential for Doncaster teams is currently doing this to be improved even more than it extremely well, having won the South already has, not least through the Yorkshire county finals and an array of Education Commission set up by awards along the way. They are now DMBC. The choices available for those going on to represent South Yorkshire in continuing into further education the Yorkshire and Humber regional finals continue to expand and this is vital if next month. I’m sure we all join in young people are to reach their full wishing them well – and hope they get potential. all the way to the finals. Their company, Green Bean Co, sells kits for growing I’m aware that the Doncaster Chamber your own organic herbs using recycled of Commerce does much to improve coffee grounds, a very innovative educational and employment chances product which at the same time helps for young people. I’m heartened to hear combat the UK’s waste problem. They local businesses talk positively about have already secured a deal with a how well some young people do when leading coffee shop chain to supply they commit themselves to a particular them with waste coffee grounds. I’ve also enjoyed reading students, whilst at the same time as about the Young Enterprise Project, a studying for A Levels, have had to deal leading charity that helps to make with the challenges of running a business relevant to the daily lives of business, promoting their product and young people. finals in June, and are already looking at ways of expanding their business and looking for new and innovative ways to continue reducing waste in the future. This is just one of the fantastic examples of our young people’s talents here in Doncaster. I enjoy visiting schools throughout the diocese, and I recently visited the XP School in Doncaster and was impressed on meeting the students and hearing about their studies. One recent project has been ‘Can Kindness Change the World’, where the students looked at how simple acts of kindness can have a huge impact on others. These acts of kindness could be something as easy as picking up a piece of litter, but also pointed out that kindness doesn’t just have to be action – it can be simple words too. I believe that getting our young people to think about issues such as these is so important, and will contribute into making them the strong leaders of tomorrow. I remain so impressed with all the schools I visit and the fantastic work they do with young people and the commitment of staff to help them achieve all they are able to, and I’m looking forward to hearing more examples of their work and successes as above. In addition, we also have Doncaster College, which has gone from strength to strength over recent years. They offer a huge and diverse range of studying opportunities from higher education to apprenticeships with over 20,000 people enrolled on more than 500 full and part-time courses, making further studying even more attainable.

The future continues to look brighter for students with the planned New College Doncaster opening in 2017 offering even more options for our young people. And, we’ve all heard the exciting news that Doncaster is to become the home for the new National College for High Speed Rail, which will train the thousands of new engineers needed to deliver the rail contracts over the coming decades, including the new HS2 high speed rail line – hopefully with many of the new engineers coming from Doncaster itself. We have a fantastic and talented pool of young people here in Doncaster, and I feel sure that with the many opportunities open to them, they will continue to succeed, and will contribute immensely to Doncaster ’s own successes in the future.
