The weather was perfect for the Nelson Vintage Car Club’s annual Swap Meet which was held at the Speedway in Richmond on Landsdowe road. The event was very well attended with fans coming Auckland, Greymouth and Christchurch the event is getting bigger each year. “We are very pleased with the day, the atmosphere was excellent, and we had almost 1400 visitors to the event,” says Jim and Kyra Wareing, committee members of the Nelson Vintage Car Club. There were 125 sales sites and nine cars for sale. The display vehicles were a huge attraction with over 60 beautifully presented vehicles on show, some over 100 years old. The club raises money for community appeals throughout the year, but the annual swap meet is an opportunity for them to meet the running costs of the club. Geoff ’s 1972 Mercedes SLV8 coupe was previously owned by Sir Brian Barrett-Boyes, the first surgeon to perform a heart transplant in New Zealand.
