SPECIAL PROMOTION

2018 MARKS THE 55TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ICONIC TAG HEUER CARRERA COLLECTION. Since its debut in 1963, this model has become synonymous with motorsports timekeeping. The collection takes its name from the legendary week-long Carrera Panamericana road race held in Mexico during the 1950s, a thrilling competition revived in 1988 as an annual rally for pre-1955 collectors’ vehicles, for which TAG Heuer serves as both partner and Official Timekeeper. TAG Heuer has recently unveiled two new stylish, vintage-inspired timepieces featuring the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 chronograph with a 41mm diameter. The black version is adorned with a magnificent perforated black leather strap with red stitching, and the blue version features a steel

bracelet for maximum comfort. With touches of red, the colors, contrasts and position of the counters are all clear references to motorsports. The two sporty models feature a vintage signature produced by the three white counters, which stand out starkly against a dial featuring a white flange with a 60-second scale. The seconds counter is at 9 o’clock, the minute counter at 12 o’clock and the hour counter at 6 o’clock. The bezel is made from ceramic and features a tachymeter scale—a crucial component on an automotive chronograph. Both models are beautiful additions to the TAG Heuer Carrera collection.

DAVID YURMAN OFFERS MODERN UPDATES TO HIS BELOVED COLLECTIONS.

22

BACHENDORF’S

From his early years creating jewelry, David Yurman has worked with a palette of gemstones in unconventional hues. This season, Yurman revisits his signature designs adding statements of individuality with unique symbols, meaningful motifs or boldly hued enamel. Of particular note are updated versions of the iconic Renaissance Cable bracelet, which brings together a striking blend of classical and contemporary sensibilities. The trademarked design—one that has appeared on the wrists of celebrities and tastemakers for more than 30 years—conveys casual elegance and merges fashion and sculpture into fine jewelry. The classic returns in new silhouettes that layer and stack with authentic glamour. A new 5mm width is offered in gold with custom-cut gemstones of rich colors that provide fresh ways to express your personal style. Here, we present three more collection highlights: David Yurman’s newest jewelry that seamlessly layers with the other pieces already in your collection yet makes a statement all its own.

ACC.BACH.Yurman.REV1.indd 22

10/23/18 3:04 PM

TIDES The designs in this collection are contemporary, sculptural forms that express the rhythms of ocean tides and the continuous motion of waves. The blue topaz atop rows of sterling silver and pavé white diamonds evokes the serenity of crystal seas.

ACC.BACH.Yurman.REV1.indd 23

PURE FORM This signature collection celebrates metal’s sculptural properties and explores its range of textures. Pure Form pieces begin with an innovative carving that gives the illusion of the iconic David Yurman Cable bracelet unwinding, widening and dissolving. By juxtaposing sculpted Cable with smooth metal, the designs create dynamic artistic statements. Layer on Pure Form pieces with your favorite classic Cable bracelets.

CHÂTELAINE Châtelaine continues as a celebration of glamour with sparkling diamonds and sterling silver. It’s one of the brand’s signature collections and a perfect fusion of David and Sybil Yurman’s combined art: the marriage of a sculptor and a painter, which has been on display in some form since the couple began working together in 1969.

MEN’S WEDDING BANDS

24

BACHENDORF’S

David Yurman’s men’s bands range from classic to extremely expressive, executed in both precious and innovative metals, including black titanium, forged carbon and colored diamonds. The collection was created to address the lack of options on the market outside of the classic white- and yellow-gold simple bands. According to the David Yurman design team, it has become increasingly important to grooms to have different styles to choose from so they can find what fits their personalities. Men are now buying multiple bands rather than just one, which better allows them to express themselves and adapt to changing occasions and circumstances.

the luxury of freedom Like the women for whom Chopard designed this collection, diamonds are happier when they are free. At least that is what Karin Scheufele, grand dame of the family who has owned the Swiss watchmaker since 1963, believed. In this spirit, the Happy Diamond watch was born. Over time, the design evolved but the diamonds remained entirely free between two sapphires. As the precious gems moved without restraint, their inherent sparkle was on full display. Caroline Scheufele, Karin’s daughter and co-president and artistic director of Chopard, reimagined the traditional Happy Diamond timepieces as Happy Sport, a modern watch for modern women. The first Happy Sport appeared on discerning wrists in 1993 and, while the iconic shape remains similar, there have been many timely updates. For instance, a new in-house automatic movement technology brings the brand into 2018 and beyond. With the new self-winding 09.01 C calibre, developed exclusively for the 30mm Happy Sport at Chopard’s Fleurier Ébauches manufacture, the movement of hours, minutes and seconds is visible through the crystal on the caseback, a rare feature on women’s watches. But the functionality and style that’s made the women’s watch a bestseller for decades remain uncompromised, flawlessly pulling off a feminine yet sporty, current yet classic aesthetic that also conveys independence with a bit of a mischievous tone. The new Happy Sport’s mother-of-pearl dials in shades of pink, blue or white are a luxurious accent. Matte leather straps match the dial in your color of choice. Chopard introduced interchangeable straps to the women’s Happy Sport in 2016. Yet its iconic shape and its floating gems remain largely unchanged. It’s clear, then, why Happy Sport has become the first-ever women’s collectible watch, reinvented each season to encompass style trends and new developments in horology. But we’re confident we’ll be seeing this beauty on your wrist, rather than at home in your box of keepsakes.

THE NEWEST CODE COCO WATCH HARKENS BACK TO CHANEL’S MOST ELEGANT ERA.

28

BACHENDORF’S

Chanel’s Code Coco watch sparkles with diamonds set in a chic steel-and-ceramic bracelet that doubles as a high-precision watch. But beyond the glamour it adds to your wrist with its sleek design and discreet dial, the watch has mystique. Like many of its creations through the ages, this diamond-studded timepiece has symbols true Chanel fans can decipher to fully appreciate the intricacy of the design. For fans of Mademoiselle Chanel’s signature quilted 2.55 handbag, created in February 1955, the first code to crack can be found in the center of the black lacquer rectangle that runs down the middle of a timepiece devoid of numerals. The rotating, oblong lock is an exact replica of the iconic bag’s clasp. And by allowing the wearer to reveal or hide the time at will, Chanel treats it like a secret—we said there was a bit of mystery here! It’s no mystery, however, that with both accessories on your arm, you’ll be super chic, which is just what Chanel expects from a creation it considers a tribute to story, style and look. Yet another code to crack is Chanel’s trademark quilting, which makes up the body of the slender bracelet with small patchwork-like squares, reminiscent of the 2.55 bag. You may be drawn to Code Coco for its star quality reflected in the princess-cut diamond shining between the two watch hands and rows of diamonds, if you choose this style, encircling the steel bezel. But don’t overlook that this baby has a job to do. There’s high-precision quartz movement under that stainless-steel case, which means easy care; and the watch is water resistant.

Code Coco’s latest stunning timepiece has a steel bezel set with 52 brilliant-cut diamonds, a steel and black ceramic bracelet, high-precision quartz movement and water resistance up to 30 meters.

TIMEPIECES The Oyster case has long been one of the determining factors in Rolex’s reputation for excellence, and it constitutes an important milestone in the history of contemporary watchmaking: Invented by Rolex in 1926, it was the world’s first waterproof case for a wristwatch thanks to its patented system of screwing down the bezel, case back and winding crown against the middle case. In 1927, Rolex put its effectiveness to the test by equipping a young Englishwoman, Mercedes Gleitze, with a watch for her swim across the English Channel. After more than 10 hours in the water, it continued to work perfectly, providing irrefutable proof that the Oyster case was waterproof. Today, thanks to the case’s hermetic construction (solid middle case, screw-down case back and crown, friction-fitted crystal and bezel), all Rolex Oyster watches are guaranteed waterproof to a depth of at least 100 meters (328 feet), increasing to 300 meters (984 feet) for the Submariner divers’ models and up to 3,900 meters (12,795 feet) for the Rolex Deepsea. The Oyster’s middle case (the central section of the case) is stamped and machined out of a solid block of 904L steel, 18-karat gold or 950 platinum. It is extremely robust and forms the backbone to which all the other parts of the case are securely fitted. Some professional models

feature a crown guard on the side; these shoulders are stamped as an integral part of the middle case. The sapphire crystal is mounted on a gasket, and the whole is fitted against the flange of the case and hermetically clamped tight by the bezel or a sealing ring. Oyster case backs are hermetically screwed down against the middle case. All models in the Oyster collection are equipped with the Oyster case and a Twinlock or Triplock winding crown. The Twinlock screwdown winding crown, developed and patented by Rolex, comprises a double system of seals, guaranteeing waterproofness to a depth of 100 meters. The Triplock comprises 10 components made of materials selected for their inherent qualities, including 18-karat gold or 904L steel for the crown and polymers for the gaskets. Once assembled, the system is screwed down against the Oyster case, offering watertight security akin to a submarine’s hatch. All Oyster cases are manufactured in-house by Rolex. After the final control operations, every Oyster watch is immersed in water and subjected to a pressure 10 percent greater than that found at the depth to which it is guaranteed—25 percent more in the case of divers’ watches. Robust and waterproof, this perfectly proportioned and elegant watch case blends form and function.

It incorporates the Chronergy escapement patented by Rolex, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. Made of nickel-phosphorus, this escapement is insensitive to magnetic interference. An optimized blue Parachrom hairspring is fitted to the oscillator, the true heart of the watch. Manufactured by Rolex in an exclusive paramagnetic alloy, it is up to 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks. Calibre 3235 is equipped with a self-winding module via a Perpetual rotor. Thanks to its new barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency, the power reserve of calibre 3235 extends to approximately 70 hours. A waterproof Oyster case provides optimum protection for the Datejust 36’s highprecision movement. Like all Rolex watches, the new-generation Datejust 31 and 36 models carry the Superlative Chronometer certification. This exclusive designation testifies that each watch has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories according to its own criteria, which exceed watchmaking norms and standards. The certification applies to the fully assembled watch (after casing the movement), guaranteeing superlative performance in terms of precision, power reserve, waterproofness and self-winding. The precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer after casing is of the order of −2 /+2 seconds per day, or more than twice that required of an official chronometer. The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee. Thanks to its timeless functions and aesthetics, the Rolex Datejust will never go out of fashion. Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust 31 with white mother-of-pearl dial, 45 brilliant-cut diamonds, President bracelet in 18K yellow gold, scratchresistant sapphire crystal with Cyclops lens over date and 55-hour power reserve. Waterproof to 100 meters; Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust 36 with champagne-color sunray finish dial, 10 diamonds in 18K yellow gold settings, Oyster bracelet in yellow Rolesor, scratchresistant sapphire crystal with Cyclops lens over date and 70-hour power reserve. Waterproof to 100 meters.

BACHENDORF’S

Launched in 1945, the Rolex Datejust was the first self-winding waterproof chronometer wristwatch to display the date in a window at 3 o’clock on the dial, consolidating all the major innovations that Rolex had contributed to modern watchmaking until that point. Its style has spanned eras while still retaining the enduring codes that make it one of the most recognizable watches of today. In 2018 Rolex introduced a new generation of the Oyster Perpetual Datejust 31, with redesigned case sides and lugs. Available in 18K white, yellow or Everose gold, the models are equipped for the first time with calibre 2236, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Insensitive to magnetic fields, its silicon Syloxi hairspring provides great stability in the face of temperature variations and remains up to 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks. Calibre 2236 is equipped with a self-winding module via a Perpetual rotor and offers a power reserve of approximately 55 hours. The new Datejust 31 watches are fitted on President bracelets, benefiting from a concealed attachment system and ensuring seamless visual continuity between the bracelet and the case. Each also has a concealed folding Crownclasp and includes ceramic inserts inside the links to enhance flexibility and longevity. Rolex’s Oyster Perpetual Datejust 36 also has been relaunched this year in both Everose Rolesor (combining Oystersteel and 18-karat Everose gold) and yellow Rolesor (combining Oystersteel and 18-karat yellow gold) versions, each available with a large selection of dials. Rolesor, the combination of gold and steel on a Rolex watch, has been a signature feature of the brand since 1933, when the name was registered. It is an auspicious meeting of two metals: one noble and precious, attractive for its lustre and stability, the other highly resistant, known for its strength and reliability. All of these qualities perfectly mirror the elegance and performance that come together in a Rolex watch. On the Rolesor versions of the new Datejust 36, the bezel, winding crown and center bracelet links are in 18-karat gold (Everose or yellow), while the case and the outer links of the bracelet are in Oystersteel. Available on Oyster or Jubilee bracelets, they also are equipped with an Oysterclasp and include the Easylink rapid extension system (patented by Rolex in 1996),

breitling’s navitimer 8 A TRIBUTE TO ONE OF WATCHMAKING’S GREATEST LEGACIES. Breitling, famous for its chronographs and its strong link to aviation, has just launched a new pilot’s watch collection: the Navitimer 8. The 8 in its name is a nod to the Huit Aviation Department, which was set up in 1938 to produce cockpit instruments as well as classic pilot’s watches for civilian and military use. At the time, Willy Breitling chose the name “Huit,” the French word for eight, as a reference to the eight-day power reserve offered by its storied cockpit instruments. Georges Kern, Breitling’s CEO since the summer of 2017, is particularly excited about the new product line. “With the Navitimer 8,” he says, “we are honoring not only our rich heritage but also our pioneering role in building chronographic instruments. But while the Navitimer 8 pays tribute to our past, it also does something considerably more important. It opens the door to a very exciting future.” The Navitimer 8 family introduces five distinct models that are worthy heirs to watchmaking’s richest aviation tradition, drawing heavily on Breitling’s design DNA and the technical features of the first board clocks and pilot’s wristwatches as well as on the Huit Aviation Department’s commitment to quality.

Breitling Advert LEFFT.indd 2

Each of the five new models in the collection expresses a design code —conceived down to the minutest detail—with a high recognition value. Guy Bove, creative director at Breitling, who fully immersed himself in the design of the board clocks and wristwatches created by the Huit Aviation Department, described the inspiration behind the Navitimer 8’s exterior design cues as follows: “With the Navitimer 8, we wanted to create a watch that was in line with our vision for the brand’s future, but which would also pay tribute to the great Breitling watches of the early to mid-20th century. From a design perspective, it occupies a unique position between Huit’s onboard clocks and the Navitimer.” The new watches resurrect some of the design values of the Huit Aviation Department’s onboard clocks—especially in terms of the dials and bezels—as well as Breitling’s iconic pilot’s watch, Reference 768, with the rotating bezel and distinctive triangular pointer that made it a favorite among pilots. Just as important were the luminous hands against black dials, a combination that offered easy readability in any lighting conditions, and which also contributed to Breitling’s aviation heritage. The Navitimer 8 watches recall the uncompromising flair of that earlier era.

FACE TIME Orlando Bloom’s watch collection would be admired by even the most serious collectors. These three timepieces are among the highlights.

Bloom’s vintage 1950s Rolex Milgauss 6543 was designed in the atomic age and was Rolex’s first watch made for people working within magnetic fields.

BRITISH ACTOR ORLANDO BLOOM IS MAKING THIS ERA HIS OWN. YOU CAN DEPEND ON HIM FOR A SHOW WORTH WATCHING—OR A WATCH WORTH SHOWING. By Daria Meoli jacket and black tuxedo pants with his Bremont AC1 when he escorted on-again-off-again girlfriend Katy Perry to the 2016 Met Gala. Bloom is a practicing Buddhist and a humanitarian. In 2009 he auctioned off several of his valuable watches to raise funds for UNICEF, a global children’s charity for which he is a goodwill ambassador. Pieces on the block included a 1960s Breitling Navitimer 806 and a 1973 Rolex Explorer II 1655 (nicknamed the “Steve McQueen Rolex,” despite a lack of evidence to prove that the screen legend ever owned this model). Months after the auction, a less altruistic organization took possession of Bloom’s prized collection. During the infamous “Bling Ring” crime spree, a group of teenagers from the Hollywood Hills broke into Bloom’s Los Angeles home and stole his watches. Eventually, police apprehended the teens, and Bloom’s watches were returned. The incident hasn’t diminished the actor’s passion for collecting. Whether he is wearing a Patek Philippe Nautilus while out to lunch with Flynn or an IWC Big Pilot 5002 while taking red carpet selfies on Instagram, Bloom continues to mark time in style. And his day is far from done.

One of the most famous Rolex designs, the Submariner is known as the James Bond watch and is built for adventure. This diver’s watch has the ability to resist water pressure down to 1,000 feet.

BACHENDORF’S

Put it down, perhaps, to a sense of timing. At 22, days after graduating from London’s Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Orlando Bloom was cast in Peter Jackson’s epic—and epically successful—Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Canterbury, England, native immediately followed up his role as Legolas by playing Will Turner in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Bloom has described his early career as feeling like a “rocket to the moon.” Now at 41, Bloom spends less time swashbuckling and more time on smaller passion projects and raising his 7-year-old son, Flynn Christopher Bloom. On-screen, Bloom has some of his biggest star turns accessorized with swords and elf ears; off-screen, as befits a master of timing, he’s an enthusiastic luxury watch collector. Bloom has a penchant for vintage Rolexes, and his collection includes an ultra-rare 1950s Rolex Milgauss 6543 with black rotating bezel and a vintage Rolex Submariner 6538 Big Crown, the model worn by Sean Connery as James Bond in Dr. No, From Russia with Love and Goldfinger. Proving that a man is never fully dressed without a watch, Bloom paired a burgundy Prada smoking

Bloom’s IWC Big Pilot 5002 is impressively large at 46mm and has a simple military design that makes it a standout.

Freshwater or saltwater, natural or cultured, Tahitian or Akoya, pearls inspire a love that spans generations.

ALWAYS IN STYLE, THESE CLASSIC JEWELS ADD A TOUCH OF SIMPLE, LUSTROUS ELEGANCE. By Rita Guarna Whatever oyster first dreamed of pearls had no idea the gems would shine for millennia. Pearls pop up in the Bible and the Koran; were prized by the ancient cultures of Egypt, India and China; and were a big reason—so the historian Suetonius tells us—that Julius Caesar invaded Britain. The costly gem symbolized purity, but also wealth, as usually only royalty or nobility could afford pearls. With the advent of cultured pearls in the early 1900s, that changed. Since famous French fashion designer Coco Chanel incorporated them into mainstream fashion almost a century ago, pearls have become the accessory that makes a look—and never gets old. Today, a new generation of celebrities and tastemakers is appropriating this timeless gem, giving pearls modern meaning and edge. Far from Park Avenue, fashionable women of all ages

are throwing on strands of pearls with everything from black lace cocktail dresses to blue jeans and white T-shirts. From the concert stage to the red carpet, British singer Rita Ora has used a smattering of differentsized pearls to create youthful yet ethereal hair accessories. Singer-songwriter Rihanna rocks pearls with sexy multi-strand collars and layers upon layers of matinee-length strands. Actresses Emma Stone and Lupita Nyong’o have added luster beyond their accessories, wearing pearlcovered gowns for black-tie events. Actress Jessica Alba has been photographed many times wearing pearl earrings. From decidedly modern black pearl-drop earrings to a pair of hanging gold chains punctuated with small luminescent pearls to front-and-back bauble pearl studs, Alba proves that pearl earrings

transition seamlessly from day to night. Whether you prefer the iconic five-strand pearl necklace Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffany’s or Kate Middleton’s funky white pearl lariat, there are many trendy ways to wear pearls now. For a preppy look, headbands, hair clips and other hair accessories are getting the spotlight. For a more avant-garde approach, pearls are being used as accents in art-inspired sculptural earrings. The unique shapes and textures of baroque pearls make the perfect accessories for a free-spirited boho style. For traditionalists looking for a twist on a classic, the Gucci loafer received an update with pearl-studded heels. But perhaps the final word on pearls came, with fitting simplicity, a half-century ago from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. “Pearls,” she said, “are always appropriate.”

THE GEM OF QUEENS Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but pearls are a woman’s timeless companion. Long known as “the queen of gems” because of their popularity with royalty (among the few who could afford them), pearls have gone mainstream without losing their elegance. Today’s celebrities are making sophisticated and sexy fashion statements with them. From Scarlett Johansson’s luxurious multi-strand, layered look to Jennifer Lawrence’s chic front-and-back black pearl-stud earrings, young fashionistas are donning this classic gem with bold, modern style.

DESIGNER

the top looks of the season Unique earrings continue to be a growing trend and category in jewelry. Hoops and stud styles remain the everyday staple for women, while at work or out for an evening. I designed the Sparkle and Rocks Collection earrings with detachable charm elements that can be worn interchangeably to provide chic and uncommon options to a traditional earring concept. As an alternative to diamond studs, and to embrace the opportunity to match up clothing choices with jewelry, add a new drop earring to embody a top look this season. I designed the asymmetric earring collection with the idea of making mismatched pairs a fashion statement. By nature, most rare, colored gemstones are not perfectly matched, yet they look beautiful mixed and worn together. A pair of long asymmetric earrings accented with diamonds can make a black tie dress look even more exquisite. Since every pair is unique, and one of a kind, there is no possibility of anyone else wearing the same jewels at an event. Although black and white continue to be staple colors for a wardrobe, neutral colors are a major trend this season. I created the nude colored stone pieces in the Sparkle and Rocks Collection to complement neutral toned suits, sweaters and buttonup shirts. The 18K rose gold makes soft beige tones in clothing look more dressed up and formal, whereas the 18K white gold with diamonds and black onyx create a contrasting look with monochromatic styles in white or black. Whether short or long, and depending on the neckline, diamond chains, gold chains and chains

with colored stone accents can be mixed together to create a personal sense of style. Layering necklaces is still a top look for the season! A dramatic cocktail ring can transform your mood. Imagine sitting by a warm fire on a cold, snowy day sporting brown suede pants and a black turtleneck, sipping hot chocolate while wearing mixed colors of stackable rings in orange, brown and purple tones. The colors can evoke feelings of warmth and security. Color is a great styling tool that can affect moods and evoke emotions. For example, blue is typically a calming color while green is believed to evoke feelings of ambition and growth. A ring is something that a person sees and looks at continuously on the hand while it is being worn. I created the Rocks Collection cocktail rings with this idea in mind, providing women with a styling option that can express their favorite color while evoking emotions in themselves as well as others.

ACC.BACH.Weddings.indd 50

If ever you wanted to plan an affair to remember, it’s your wedding. Bronson van Wyck’s tips will help you plan the celebration of a lifetime – and one your guests will never forget. Do sweat the small stuff. Well, just a few small things. While you shouldn’t stress about making your entire wedding perfect, spend time on a few special touches that make your big day really feel like your day. “Sometimes the subtle details are the ones that set the tone and say that a host has thought about things,” van Wyck told One Kings Lane. What those details are depends on your personal taste, but some of van Wyck’s favorites include “an escort card table [that] was an old potting table lined with wildflowers and simple cards that were each hand tied with lavender. The guests’ very first impression of the ceremony on a warm summer day was the subtle, clean scent of lavender in the air,” he told Armarium. And his favorite dinner setup? “On the back lawn of a historic villa in Tuscany. It was so simple, with two long tables, a slew of candles, potted herbs and flowers, and bistro lights overhead. I loved the drama and the intimacy of the seating 400 guests at only two tables.” The touches that truly matter to you will be part of what you remember most years later. Whimsical, personal details. At a party he threw for Coach, van Wyck and team incorporated dinosaurs, the brand’s new favorite animal, throughout the event: Dinosaur topiaries with floral leis greeted guests waiting for drinks at the bar, while colorful dino pins were included in the treats for partygoers to take home. Have fun with your own quirky details that make you and your partner special. continued...

10/18/18 9:01 AM

For example, van Wyck planned a wedding for an ultra-bold couple who wanted red everything: “From the flowers to the draped ceiling to luxurious tablecloths and even the guests’ attire, the bride’s favorite color cocooned their guests in every way…. It’s fun to work with a color palette that is so simple yet so dramatic,” van Wyck said. Don’t forget this is your day – and one that’s meant to be a joyous celebration! “When you’re planning a wedding, there’s the sacred part of it, which is the relationship between the two people who are coming together,” van Wyck explained to Business Insider. “But there’s also the aspect of throwing just a knock-down party, and that can be fun.” Create opportunities for guests to enjoy special moments. No doubt you’ve already planned to keep your guests well fed (and well drunk!). But van Wyck recommended taking it a step further. “You also have a responsibility to their emotional well-being—what do they need in addition to a drink in their hand? Think about how you put people together. Create moments where guests flirt and get to know each other,” van Wyck told Barneys. One of his top tips for creating intimacy is “a sparklers moment. It doesn’t seem to get old for me. It’s a fun surprise for guests young to old, and it brings the group together,” he told Armarium. “Two guests might share and hold one together or help each other light them just in the nick of time.” Plus, he added, the glow of a sparkler creates a perfect nighttime photo op. “When your friends and family can walk away from the night with a memory or a new friend,” van Wyck said, “they will treasure that long after the social media post has moved down the feed.”

ENGAGEMENT

kevin& natalie tie the knot

DALLAS POLICE OFFICERS DESIGN A RING THAT’S AS UNIQUE AS THEIR LOVE STORY.

How did you two meet? Kevin and I are both Dallas police officers, and we met approximately 12 years ago when we worked at the same police substation. We had minimal contact with one another until August 2013 when we both were promoted to sergeants and attended a supervisory leadership school taught by the Dallas Police Department. While attending our course, Kevin inquired about having lunch with me. I thought he should have been focused on our curriculum, but after various excuses and telling him flat out, “NO,” he finally wore me down and I accepted his offer! Kevin, when did you decide to propose? The first day I saw Natalie smile. She has a way of lighting up your day with her radiance. I knew I needed her in my life forever.

52

BACHENDORF’S

Tell us about the proposal from your point of view, Kevin. I wanted the proposal to be special and, more importantly, successful. I chose to ask Natalie to marry me on the Millennium Bridge in London. It’s a beautiful “Love Lock” location. Natalie is very unique, therefore, the lock that represented our love had to be as well. I purchased a cast iron, heart-shaped, lock and had it engraved with our names and date of our proposal. The day of the proposal was typical London weather—it was raining. I suggested we walk, gravely miscalculating the distance to the bridge from our hotel; it took almost an hour to get there. I had second thoughts about my failing plan, but Natalie was a trooper

ACC.BAC.engagement.indd 52

10/26/18 4:39 PM

to declare that their love cannot be broken. I thought this sentiment was magnificent and I wanted to be a part of it. Then, he pulled a lock out of his bag and said, “Did you think we were coming all the way to London without a lock?” I screamed with excitement and noticed he had our lock specially engraved. He professed his love to me, and before I knew it, there was an engagement ring on my finger! I was crying and shaking profusely. The tourists on the bridge didn’t know what the heck was wrong with me. I still cry when I tell this story, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! When was your wedding? Our wedding was May 18, 2018—exactly two years from the date of our beautiful London, England, proposal.

Natalie, what was your point of view? I didn’t think I could handle a wedding, so therefore I was never prepared for a proposal. Kevin and I planned a European vacation in May 2016. One particularly rainy day in London, England, Kevin wanted to visit the Millennium Bridge. The bridge is also known as the “Love Lock Bridge.” Attaching a padlock to the bridge is a romantic gesture for couples

How was it working with Justin? Working with Justin was astonishing! The energy he exhibits and his attention to detail is indescribable. He knows his craft and the fact that he listened intently to our concepts and ideas was refreshing. He then magnifies those same ideas, which is absolutely amazing! We’d say he is the epitome of professionalism and customer service…spot on!

BACHENDORF’S

and suggested we keep going saying, “We’re already wet! Let’s just go a little further!” When we arrived at our destination, I started with all the facts I memorized about the bridge and the love locks. Natalie quickly asked, “If you knew all this, why didn’t you get a lock for us?” I showed her our lock and Natalie smiled so bright, I swear it stopped raining. We attached the lock and threw the key into the River Thames. With Natalie still being high on love, I gave her the ring box. Jokingly, I told her that it was a pair of diamond earrings she wanted. When she opened the box, her look of awe was priceless. I quickly grabbed the ring, got down on one knee, placed the ring on her finger and asked the love of my life to marry me. I kneeled on the wet ground awaiting her answer. I waited… and waited. Natalie was in tears and literally speechless! She nodded her head up and down in acknowledgement. I thanked her for making me the happiest man alive!

Tell us more about the wedding band. Why did you choose Bachendorf ’s? Initially, I went to Bachendorf ’s to purchase a watch as a surprise gift for Kevin on our wedding day. While conducting my watch research, I met with Justin. I told him our wedding would be in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, and Justin advised me to bring Kevin back to Bachendorf ’s after the wedding so he could fit Kevin’s watch to perfection. The following month we arrived at Bachendorf ’s, and Justin wanted to hear all about our phenomenal wedding! He noticed my beautiful oval solitaire did not have an accompanying wedding band. By the time I looked up, the artistry had already begun! Justin asked if we considered designing a wedding band which would sit perfectly with the diamond. We both had a state of shock on our faces, when Justin began sketching a design for us! He helped us strategically select two wedding bands to accentuate my ring. One band has a row of diamonds that encompassed half of the ring. The second band, known as the “middle band,” has a “notch” carved in the middle so the oval solitaire would sit perfectly inside of the notch. Justin recommended we continue crafting this beautiful piece by adding a signature engraving for sentimental purposes. We elected to have our initials engraved on each side of the band and add our wedding date to the inner part of the band. The completed three ring set flows beautifully. When it was finally complete…the rings were awe-inspiring!

TRENDING

in plain sight IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE IN MAGIC, MAYBE YOU JUST HAVEN’T DONNED THE SAMSUNG ODYSSEY WINDOWS “MIXED REALITY” HEADSET YET.

Want to roam the Incan ruins of Machu Picchu? Dive from a cliff in Moab, Utah? Battle gladiators in Rome’s Colosseum? Oh, and you say you’d rather not leave your rec room? VR may be for you. VR, of course, is virtual reality, the technology that can take you almost anywhere—in sensory terms—and into almost any situation. It’s big for games, sure, but it’s also beginning to poke a disconcerting elbow into the world of work, where, as one website says, people can do “daily computing tasks while fully immersed in a 3D space.” You put on a headset, and suddenly you’re in a different environment—yet one that responds to your real-world commands. One of the VR devices drawing buzz in 2018 is the Samsung HMD (that stands for “head-mounted displays”) Odyssey Windows “Mixed Reality” headset with motion controllers. The Odyssey operates on the Microsoft Windows Mixed Reality platform, which was introduced in October 2017. (Mixed reality is a type of VR in which computergenerated content and real-world content can react to each other in real time.) With the Odyssey headset you can explore exotic locales and settings. And a next-level social media network, vTime, connects users from around the world—or around the block—in engaging virtual environments, such as cozy campfires, mountain cliffs and glacier tops. While those snowy mountains may be virtual, you can get fit for real. There are several available routines for people looking to buff up using a VR platform, including BOXVR virtual gym, the Bitslap HIIT (highintensity interval training) app and the MoveStudio dance and cardio app. (If you decide to sweat with VR, use caution. The Odyssey does not prevent you from walking into walls.) The Odyssey brings users into the next phase of entertainment. Mixed reality allows users to drop into the middle of a documentary about Syria, sail the America’s Cup with a real race team or watch the latest episode of This is Us in a virtual theater. The built-in headset has 360-degree sound, giving virtual voices and ambient noises depth and distance. The Odyssey and the Windows Mixed Reality platform can be installed in compatible devices in minutes. And, with a price below $500, this device is a way for VR newbies to check out the world of augmented reality. Can you see it now?

HONORING ITS FEROCIOUS FOREBEARS, THE MERCEDES-BENZ AMG SL65 ROADSTER WILL MOVE YOU, THRILL YOU—AND MASSAGE YOU, TOO.

Drivers who experience the joy of racing in a sporty Mercedes-Benz AMG SL65 convertible owe a nod of gratitude to a couple of speed-obsessed Germans. In the 1960s, Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher were young engineers working on the 300 SE racing engine at Daimler-Benz when the company discontinued all motorsports activities. But the pair had an unrelenting passion for speed and a vision for modeling road vehicles after racing cars. In 1967, they left Daimler-Benz to found Aufrecht Melcher Großaspach, or AMG. The two tirelessly tinkered with valves and pistons as an independent engineering firm specializing in performance improvements for Mercedes-Benz vehicles. After a successful arrangement by which AMG upgrades were available and serviceable through selected Mercedes-Benz dealers worldwide, in 1993, the two firms unveiled the C36 AMG, their first jointly developed vehicle. Today the engineering firm is owned by the German automaker and more than 50 Mercedes–AMG performance models have hit the streets. In 2018, the AMG SL65 extends the blissful union between AMG’s muscular engineering and Mercedes-Benz’s lavish design. One of the most powerful in its class, this roadster packs a punch with a 6.0-liter AMG V-12 biturbo engine that pumps out 621 horsepower. Able to go 0–60 in just 3.9 seconds, this model reaches its top speed of 186 mph in what seems like the blink of an eye. Mercedes-Benz elevates the roadster experience with Active Body Control technology. The suspension’s sensors and electronically controlled hydraulics

respond to the car’s grip in milliseconds. An automatic four-wheel level control lowers the vehicle as its speed increases to enhance aerodynamics and stability. The height also can be raised for bumpy roads or steep climbs. Like its SL forerunners, the 2018 AMG SL65 provides as much swank as it does soup. The panoramic sunroof creates an open-air feeling even when the coupe is closed. The high-tech glass controls exposure to harmful UV and infrared rays from the sun while keeping the cabin of the vehicle cool. The roof ’s electrochromatic technology automatically changes the glass from transparent to opaque based on the amount of thermal energy entering the cabin. When drivers are ready to feel the wind in their hair, the SL can be transformed to an open roadster in less than 20 seconds, even while traveling up to 25 mph. The car has 12-way power seats with memory, which are upholstered in Nappa leather. The seats also are outfitted with a neck-level heating system, a massage feature to help prevent fatigue on long trips, and adjustable lumbar, side bolsters and shoulder supports for tailored comfort. Passionate music fans will rejoice after switching on a BeoSound system designed by Bang & Olufsen engineers. Even when the wind is whipping about the cabin, 12 active speakers and 900 watts of musical power create ideal sound. With its twin-turbo V-12 muscle and superb amenities, this innovative and powerful roadster brings Aufrecht and Melcher’s passion for motorsports and design into a wide-awake 2019.

SPIRITS

18: A very good year YES, IT’S 2018, AND IN THE WORLD OF SPIRITS, YOU’LL FIND IT HARD TO PASS UP THE TASTE OF WELL-AGED LIQUOR. SO HERE ARE FIVE—EACH 18 YEARS OLD— THAT WILL HIT THE SPOT. What’s in a number? In Judaism, there’s a belief that 18 is lucky, while the same number is associated with abundance and wealth in Chinese folklore. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a hold of and sip one (or all) of these under-the-radar spirits. They might not result in riches, but we know you’ll treasure their tastes.

The story behind this rum’s name is almost as rich as the liquor itself. “Kirk and Sweeney” was the name of a wooden schooner used to smuggle rum from the Caribbean to the United States during Prohibition. Luckily, connoisseurs today don’t have to wait as long for a taste of the copper-colored rum. The liquor is crafted from raw sugarcane and exudes the aroma of dried fruits, hints of honey and warm vanilla.

After traditional aging in oak casks and additional aging in port barrels, just 800 bottles are available of this single cask Gelas Bas-Armagnac. In the mouth, this brandy expresses notes of crystallized clementine, candied apple and lemon, and a hint of smooth blackberry cream. The distinct aromas of caramel, toasted oak and vanilla create a pleasant experience on the nose.

They grow up so fast! And this Scotch whisky is especially mature for its age, thanks to the watchful eyes and patience of Glenfiddich’s master distillers. They individually number each bottle and supervise the aging to ensure proper maturation. From its inception to formative years, Glenfiddich whisky undergoes an intense marrying period so its fruity and rich oak flavors can intertwine and fully develop.

This straight rye whiskey is the oldest release of Lock Stock & Barrel to date—making it quite the coveted craft liquor. It is a robust cut whiskey, having been unfiltered after its distillation. The aging process tames its spicy overtones and brings out hints of candied ginger, vanilla and cherry. And despite its high proof, this rye is smooth enough to be enjoyed without ice.

Fuenteseca Reserva tequila was aged for six years in Atotonilco El Alto before spending 12 years aging in El Chapingo. It is free of the artificial coloring and flavors now found in some añejo tequilas on the market. The natural process allows the liquor to develop its authentic gold coloring, creamy vanilla taste and palate-pleasing cedar and sandalwood undertones.

TIRED OF THE SAME-OLD, SAME-OLD? WAKE UP YOUR TASTE BUDS WITH NUTRITIOUS, FLAVORFUL DISHES FROM THE WESTERN PART OF THIS SURPRISING CONTINENT. By Donna Rolando Savvy chefs like to keep up with food trends, and one thing that’s “on trend” this year is the cuisine of West Africa. If you haven’t yet taken a gustatory jaunt to that corner of the planet, sampling the stews, rice dishes and desserts for which it’s known, there’s no time like now. West African food is flavorful, but not too spicy, and—in the style of good home cooking—a healthy choice. In fact, when it comes to quality, the West African diet fared better than its U.S. counterpart in a study published in The Lancet Global Health. It’s the reliance on veggies, legumes, staple starches and lean meats—not processed foods—that makes West African dishes a bounty of good nutrition. This cuisine is on the menu in many big U.S. cities these days—in eateries run by African transplants and in other restaurants whose chefs are bold enough to embrace what’s novel—so no ocean-crossing will be required to treat your taste buds to something excitingly new. Check out these menu highlights:

SENEGALESE CHICKEN YASSA From the Casamance region in the south of Senegal comes chicken yassa (or yassa poulet), a spicy stew served up in households throughout Africa. It’s also available at Senegalese restaurants around the globe, so if this is your first time with West African cooking, consider chicken yassa a good introduction. Well, that’s if you like onions. This is a dish that gets much of its flavor from caramelized onions! The chicken, beef, lamb or fish (all are right for making yassa) is marinated with oil, lemon and a dash of mustard, usually overnight. (In Africa this marinating is often necessary to soften tough meat; here in the U.S. it can make it melt in your mouth.) JOLLOF RICE This one-pot classic rice dish draws its flavor from fried and stewed tomatoes and is so engrained in African life that it’s often considered the thread that unites families. No pot of jollof is ever quite the same as another, so diverse are the ingredients that can go into the broth along with spices, onions and tomatoes. Out of chicken? Don’t worry: Pork, fish and veggies all work great in an authentic jollof. And for a real Nigerian feel, cook it over a live fire for a smoky

version known as Party Rice. The crust that forms on the bottom of the rice means you did it right! Since jollof is such a West African staple, it’s not surprising to learn that this dish knows no boundaries: Serve it at an everyday meal or dress it up with seafood for a celebration. And if you are celebrating at an African restaurant near you, consider sampling jollof. It’s often served with fried plantains and coleslaw. CAAKRI We saved the best for last—dessert! Leave the chocolate-covered cheesecake for another time; to get the full African experience, try Caakri, a dish made from fermented milk and grain and sweetened to taste. You might liken it to rice pudding, but the texture is different and the taste slightly tangy. (It contains sour cream.) The name Caakri (aka Tiakri, Chakery and several others) refers to the grain used to make this popular dessert or snack. While tradition called for common African grains like maize, black-eyed peas or millet, today’s pudding typically uses couscous prepared from wheat semolina. This pudding wasn’t always on the dessert menu. In fact, Caakri is related to a dish once served as the main meal, but that all changed with the availability of sweeteners. Today, you can sweeten your Caakri or not, depending on preference. Serve without sugar for a yogurt taste, reflecting one of its key ingredients; or with sweetener, raisins or pineapple, for a true dessert. Serve chilled for best results. So, if you are ready to take your palate-pleasing to new levels, try a taste of West Africa!

For your food tour of West Africa, sample (clockwise, from top left) Senegalese chicken yassa, peanut soup, jollof rice and caakri. No need to travel—this cuisine is a hot new American trend.

BACHENDORF’S

PEANUT SOUP This staple of the West African diet brings together a very unlikely combo from an American standpoint— tomatoes and peanuts (or ground nuts)—for a sweet and spicy sensation you’ll wish you had discovered sooner. Although there are many variations of this soup or stew, at its core are simple, familiar ingredients: nuts and sometimes meat and veggies. Ginger, herbs, garlic, Tabasco hot sauce and sweet potatoes are all used to enhance this African favorite— a sure way to provide comfort, as well as nourishment, on a rainy day. The perfect accompaniment for peanut soup is rice, plantains, potatoes and vegetables,

but in Ghana, you might bring on the fufu. Yes, that’s fufu—the name for any hot starch cooked over heat and formed into a rich paste. There’s nothing like this pounded starch, often made from fermented cassava, to make sure we get every last drop of our peanut soup. Most Africans eat fufu every day, from infancy through their senior years, and it comes in many varieties.

Known as the “Money Isles” since the 2nd century, the Maldives (officially the Republic of Maldives) is a jet-set destination synonymous with exotic luxury. John Legend proposed to Chrissy Teigen here because it’s so romantic. The Beckhams spend family vacations here because it’s so posh. Prince William and Kate Middleton had a sexy getaway here because the string of luminescent islands is so secluded. Celebrities such as Madonna, Naomie Harris and Michael Phelps flock to this island nation because of the azure waters and sugar-white sand beaches. Located in the Indian Ocean southwest of India, the Maldives strikes a balance between relaxation and adventure while providing visitors with a sense that they are uncovering one of nature’s hidden gems without sacrificing modern comfort. The 26 atolls comprise 1,192 small islands, of which 202 are inhabited, and 90 resort islands offer unspoiled nature and unrivaled privacy. The Maldives’ name is derived from the Sanskrit term for “garland of islands.” Consisting of 99

percent water, this archipelago is home to a spectacular array of marine life. There are extensive coral reefs, and scuba diving is a huge draw for experts and beginners, offering the opportunity to get up close to sea turtles, eagle rays, whale sharks, manta rays, dolphins, eels, puffers, lobsters, clams and a wide variety of colorful fish. Divers can even go on a guided fluorescent night dive or snorkel and see coral and other organisms glow in neon colors as if they were under a black light. Tourists can experience the surreal when they swim with whale sharks, one of the world’s largest mammals, at Manta Point. For visitors who prefer to keep their heads above water, chartering a fishing vessel and taking a traditional dhoni boat to watch dolphins frolic at sunset are hard-to-resist options too. The islands can be a spiritual place for those looking to de-stress. The Maldives’ culture reflects a fusion of Buddhism and Islam that dates back to 300 B.C. Many resorts offer sunrise and sunset yoga, wellness retreats and Ayurveda-influenced spa treatments. After the sun goes down, Maldives has stunning views of the night sky. Because it’s located just above the Equator, both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres’ stars are visible. While a blanket on the beach can make for cozy stargazing, visitors can see the stars up close with a powerful telescope located at Anantara Kihavah’s open-air observatory and cocktail bar. Not all visitors to Maldives are on a pilgrimage to commune with nature. Some are there for the party. At Finolhu, a resort in Baa Atoll,

pleasure seekers rejoice in a beach-party vibe that features internationally acclaimed DJs and three-day long festivals hosted throughout the year. So, are there accommodations that justify the 20-plus hour flight from the U.S.? That’d be a yes. Ranked on the Condé Nast Traveler Gold List for 2018, the Cheval Blanc Randheli resort in the northwestern Maldives is a pearl of opulence. Developed by LVMH Hotel Management and designed by Jean-Michel Gathy, it has 45 villas, some over water with reef access right outside the door. Each has its own pool stretching the full width of the villa; hammocks, sun lounges and day beds adorn the decks, with sunken seating areas for room-service dining. Guests who fancy a game of tennis can hop aboard a five-minute boat ride to Maakhurandhoo Island. Built in accordance with Australian Open standards, these courts have hosted Roger Federer. Amilla Fushi, located on Baa Atoll, is all glitz and glam, with stark white architecture, sculptural furniture, oversized sofas and a fabulous pool. And before it’s time to enjoy dinner at Alba, the property’s Mediterranean restaurant, guests can clean up with a manicure and blow-dry at the on-site salon. When they’ve had enough relaxation, a concierge can organize a number of excursions, such as a dolphin cruise, private island picnics and big-game fishing. For guests who don’t want to sacrifice environmentally sustainable practices or luxury, Soneva Jani, located on Noonu Atoll, is worth a stay. The resort is built across three small islands encircling a lagoon. The biggest island is 150 acres and has 32 villas, two restaurants serving organic food prepared by Michelin-starred guest chefs, a scuba and watersports center and an Ayurvedic spa. Every villa is personalized with choice of pillow type as well as fragrance: bergamot, lemongrass, orange or peppermint. Villas also are stocked with a guest’s favorite beverages and cocktails. While the Maldives offers visitors a wealth of experiences, the islands may be best enjoyed by listening to the ocean lap against the shore, letting your toes sink into the sand and sipping a cool drink while you do absolutely nothing at all.

Elvis Presley’s diamond timepiece (below right) sold in May 2018 for $1.8 million, far surpassing estimates of $52,900 to $106,000. Paul Newman’s Rolex Daytona (above) set the record for a timepiece sold at auction when it garnered $17.8 million in October 2017.

ACC.BACH.Auctions.indd 70

You’ve undoubtedly seen the headlines of late: “Paul Newman’s Paul Newman fetches $17.8 million at auction” or “Elvis Presley’s Omega sells for a record $1.8 million.” While these results are not exactly commonplace, they do open the debate on what makes a watch valuable. Some say that provenance (who owned it and the stories behind it) and condition/ originality are key. As we see it, there are three major watch auction houses at the moment: Phillips, Christie’s and Sotheby’s. Keep in mind that the auction scene is a microcosm of a much larger industry. Over the last three years, we’ve noticed two distinct pillars emerge within the watch industry: highly desirable modern references (the Rolex Daytona, Patek Philippe Nautilus and more) followed by vintage pieces. The vintage market has positively exploded, forcing even the most novice of collectors to look again at that watch his grandfather gave him. In some (rare) cases, he’ll find a diamond in the rough, and it can be worth a considerable deal of money.

What does this all mean for collectors? Well, sadly, the price you’ll pay for your next vintage watch will assuredly be higher. Bolstered by auction houses and vintage dealers, we’ve seen prices rise over 300 percent in some cases. But fear not: Deals are still out there; you just need to know where to look. Form a relationship with your retailer and get to know the person who curates the store’s vintage watch selection. He or she can help you find something you love within your budget. If raising your paddle in a room full of strangers isn’t your scene, there’s no shame in sticking to modern timepieces. There have been some incredible watches produced over the last few years. Have a look at the Tudor Black Bay GMT, Patek Philippe Calatrava and the Rolex Explorer, all of which should be available at your local authorized retailer and are likely to retain or gain value as time goes on. WHAT DO THE PHOTOGRAPHIC SUBJECTS OF THIS FORMER TV ANCHORMAN HAVE IN COMMON? THEY’RE COLORFUL, ETHEREAL—AND WET.

“There is no common thread that runs through [this collection],” underwater photographer Harry Martin has said. “Every picture is different—some graphically oriented, some dreamy, and others evocative of motion.”

72

BACHENDORF’S

Harry Martin’s love for photography was born at age 9. He worked in news, shooting 16-millimeter film and videotape and covering political conventions. Though his TV news career brought him out from behind the camera to the anchor desk, he never lost his passion for images. Now 66, he’s back to that passion in a special way—taking fashion photographs of subjects who are underwater. Martin most recently sat at the anchor desk for the stations My9NJ (WWOR) and Fox 5 New York (WNYW). As his broadcast career was heating up, he continued to pursue photography as a hobby. He also became immersed in another interest: scuba diving. While on a scuba excursion with his family, Martin began taking underwater pictures of his children. The light through the water created both a real and abstract vibe in his photos. Inspiration struck and once he found a willing model, Martin cranked up the heat in his backyard pool in Cresskill, N.J., to 80 degrees, tossed a metal backdrop into the deep end and created an underwater studio. As a reporter and anchor, Martin was an expert storyteller. That instinct for communicating great stories shines through in his photographs, which remind one of the late Philippe Halsman’s photos of artist Salvador Dali leaping in the air. (If only Dali were still around for a diving immersion!) Part of the allure of Martin’s dreamy underwater series is the way his work reflects the personalities and backstories of his subjects. While he often uses professional models, he also has shot an emergency room nurse, a nuclear chemist, a former Penthouse model and a founder of a Costa Rican community center who works with the United Nations on clean water initiatives in developing countries. The photographer began the “Harry Martin Underwater” series in 2013 and continues to build the collection, shooting from April through November each year. His work has been shown in several galleries in the Northeast, and he participated in the Neiman Marcus “Art of Fashion” program. He also counts a boutique jeweler and dress designers as commercial clients. So, after five years of underwater photo shoots, who is at the top of Martin’s dream subject list? Lady Gaga. He has said he is drawn to her adventurous spirit.
