Administrator of the Year

An award acknowledging people who have contributed to the administration of sport. Recognises the administrator’s entire career span.

Don Griffin

BOWLS

Don has been secretary of the Masterton Bowling Club, Wairarapa’s largest bowling club, for many years. Don ensures that the club’s monthly committee meetings are run in a very organised, well informed, and efficient manner. He compiles a monthly newsletter, which is way above and beyond a normal newsletter, with detailed, informative, and humorous accounts of the club activities. He was instrumental in the development of the club’s recently installed artificial green. Don is a previous winner of the Bowls Wairarapa Administrator of the Year.

Gail Miller

HOCKEY

Gail has been the secretary of the Dalefield Hockey Club for the past 18 years, as well as treasurer for many of those years. Gail ensures that the club is run efficiently and diligently, providing committee members with detailed information, so the club operates smoothly.

Jorge Sandoval

CYCLING

Jorge organised and ran the Trust House NZ Cycle Classic, the only UCI accredited stage race in New Zealand, raced over five days in January. He also organised the successful Trust House North Island team series held in Wairarapa over five weekends in late 2021. The task of holding both events was made more difficult with strict requirements in place under the covid-19 alert level restrictions. This limited his ability to bring in top overseas teams for the cycle classic. Despite that Jorge still managed to assemble quality fields for both events.

Raewyn Ward

CROQUET

Raewyn is the Masterton Croquet Club secretary and treasurer. She organises club days, is the club handicapper, and takes entries and completes the draws. Raewyn keeps note of the result cards, is an expert on the rules, and is the arbiter for any rules disputes. Under Raewyn’s leadership the club has thrived, with the club experiencing the biggest growth of any club in New Zealand.
