THE TIM BEVERIDGE CONTRACTING FLEET.
An earthworks business moving up
From small beginnings just four years ago, Tim Beveridge Contracting has become a thriving earth moving business in Wairarapa. Based out of Ngaumutawa Road in Masterton, it was started by Tim Beveridge, who grew up on a farm near Martinborough and rst got into earthmoving in farming and forestry when he was 20. Three years later he started Tim Beveridge Contracting with just a truck and digger. The business has grown rapidly since then and now has ve diggers, three trucks and a team of eight sta . Tim’s clients include local council, railway maintenance, housing construction groups, shed companies, such as A ordable Sheds who have been using Tim since Tim Beveridge Contracting was established. “They have been a big part of the growth of the business, and I’m very grateful for their support.” Reliability, good communication skills, and the ability to take care of all parts of a job have been important ingredients in its success, Tim believes. “I like to provide a full service. Clients can ring me with a project or task and know that I can come and carry out whatever is needed. Tim has a wealth of knowledge in earth works and is able to o er clients advice that will bene t them nancially and aesthetically. The business has a positive work culture which has also contributed to its success, Tim believes. “All the boys are polite and respectful. They are a good group of guys who work well together and get along. As well as my father who has been a huge support to the business.” ROD AND JAMIE MCMASTER.

Ideal agricultural lime at Pakohe Lime Company
Located in hill country to the southeast of Martinborough, Pakohe Lime Company has enjoyed high praise from a visiting geologist. The geologist estimated the lime at the quarry to be from eight to 10 million years old. He described it as “very high in quality” and “a soft lime which is very porous and readily available to plant life”. It is now a certi ed organic product with BioGro New Zealand. Pakohe Lime Company has been supplying Wairarapa farms with its lime for over 70 years. The quarry was established in 1938 by J.P McMaster on the family farm. Today it is still a family-operated business, run by the founder’s grandson Rob McMaster, with Rob’s son Jamie, who has worked at the quarry for almost eight years taking on increasing responsibilities. The most common way to increase soil pH is by applying nely ground agricultural lime(CaCO3 or MgCO3). It can be used to: ■ neutralise soil acidity ■ encourage micro-organism and earthworm activity, resulting in better soil structure ■ improve the uptake of major plant nutrients (NPK) Nitrogen, Phosphorus and
Potassium ■ improve water penetration in your soil ■ maximise crop yield ■ improve the quality of your silage and hay ■ improve animal health ■ increase milk production ■ counteract leaching from excessive rainfall ■ improve both your pasture and your pro t Pakohe Lime Company is open Monday to Friday to supply agricultural lime, raceway lime, driveway lime, silage pit base lime, and ornamental lime rocks. The quarry is seven kilometres along Dry River Road from the Lake Ferry Road turn-o . It is the only lime quarry south of Carterton.
