New look takes Wairarapa Mitsubishi from 1960s to 2020s

It is almost 60 years since Wairarapa Mitsubishi’s premises at 313 Queen Street has seen any major change. The current building was opened in 1963 when the business was called Sharples Motors. Since then there have been some superficial changes, but nothing like the major overhaul which has just been completed. The initial impetus was the need to update Mitsubishi branding throughout the premises. But owners Brent and Tracey Cooper also took the opportunity to give it a contemporary look, and create a more customer and staff friendly environment. Along with a change of colour scheme, the interior of the showroom now has an open plan, modern feel. Air-conditioning has been introduced, a new customer lounge created, and new main front counter added which visitors naturally gravitate to. The Parts Manager, Service Manager and Office Manager all share an open plan space, which helps to make the business more efficient, says Brent. All the staff wear an attractive uniform, which contributes to a more professional image. Tracey and John of D. R. Borman oversaw the design and build of the project. The commencement of the refurbishment was delayed by last year’s Covid lockdown and Brent admits he and Tracey were a bit nervous about going ahead with the project once it was lifted because of the unpredictability of the economic situation. “But we are glad we did it. We have been going from strength to strength since then.”
