ON THE COVER NICK JONES There are many great things to be said about wakeboarding. One of them is the fact that it’s generally a summer sport. With summer you have warm weather and suntans. And, as we all know, girls in bikinis love suntans in the summer. Strategy or not, you can’t blame Nick Jones for inviting his friend to this photo shoot on Lake Pickett. The conditions were perfect. We had all we needed, right at our fingertips. Glassy water, plenty of sunshine, a killer boat with a massive wake, a camera… It only seemed fitting to ask her to be in a few photos. It was the only thing missing. After all, it certainly wasn’t going to hinder the photo, right? Everybody loves a wakeboard shot with a hot

St. Johns River FLORIDA, USA

If you ride early enough in the morning, you can have Lake Georgia all to yourself with nothing but miles and miles of water in sight… And yes, plenty of gigantic alligators. An old wives’ tale among the St. Johns river is that the lake was used to “dump” excess or nuisance alligators. It’s not something you’d want to doubt. This photo was taken as we idled through the boat channel, entering the mysterious lake. While you can’t see the alligators here, I’ll always remember this photo for how deceptive and empty the entrance looked. Once we drove out further into the water, it didn’t take long to become a believer.

Lake Shawnigan is no stranger to the pages of Wake Journal. It will be a lake more frequently seen in the years to come. The lake has seen its share of happy anglers, blissful sunbathers, the awesome Henshaw family, and now Mikey Ennen. Open a Labatt and cheers to that, ey?

Adam Errington CLEAR LAKE, FL

This is a time for one of those “DO NOT TRY AT HOME” disclaimers. Adam and I were riding doubles with my rope just a bit longer than his. I’d have the camera water housing in one hand, then the rope in the other. It’s a careful, strenuous balancing act of instinct where I have to swing around the camera and absorb the wakeboard chop beneath me. There is only a half second to react if I need to duck, drop the rope and bail, or stand tall and take the shot. After Adam did a few warmup wake jumps, I had him try this trick over and over again. As he’d poke the board toward the camera, the fisheye lens would cause anything near to distort. The oddly shaped board gives you an idea how close he was to the camera.

Riding doubles with your friend should be at the top of your wakeboarding bucket list. If it’s not at the top of your list, apparently you still have some time to move it there. Plus, riding doubles saves with gas money. Sticking it to the economy, Rusty Malinoski and Danny Harf enjoy a friendly game of follow-the-leader.

Collin Harrington CLEAR LAKE, FL

As mentioned in Wake Journal Issue 11, taking a quick surf sesh behind the boat is a necessity. If you’re lucky enough to have a Tige 24VE, then your time in the “green room” is dramatically increased. Loving the peeling conditions and making use of an overcast day, Collin Harrington dropped down to his belly and went in for a closer look.
