T
he IV Cigar Festival was held between February 6-11 (Festival PROCIG), one of the Dominican Republic’s most important export products. Festival activities took place around the country, specifically in Santiago, the country’s second-largest city and known as the Cigar Capital of the Caribbean, and in La Romana, on the country’s eastern region, a land known for its world-renowned golf courses. Representatives from major international companies participate in this popular festival (www.procigar.org). The festival’s agenda included visits to the factories that produce many of the world’s most famous cigar brands. In Santiago participants had the opportunity to enjoy local music, culture and the hospitality Dominicans are known for. In La Romana, some participants decided to play at the “Teeth of the Dog” golf course, recognized as one of the top 50 golf courses in the world. Some of the cigar brands produced in Santiago are Davidoff, Partagas, H. Upmann, Macanudo, Zino, Leon Jimenes, Romeo y Julieta, Fonseca, Avo, Juan Clemente, La Aurora, Griffin’s, Montecristo and Don Diego.
