What a time to be house hunting in Calgary right now. The spring market has sprung and there’s palpable energy to it, as sales of homes climbed 23 per cent in the city and inventories remain low. There’s a rush for silver in the southwest – Silver Spruce, that is! The newest community from Apex Developments makes its longanticipated debut on May 4 and excitement is ramping up for all that it offers.
This boutique community situated in the heart of the well-established neighbourhood of Silverado in the southwest is already a big hit, as the two showhomes from Brookfield Residential and Excel Homes are open and seeing an abundance of visitors. “The response has been outstanding,” says Apex Development coordinator, Michelle Wilken. “We are already 40 per cent sold in Phase 1.”

Calgary’s Contrada family are the winners of the 2023 Calgary Stampede Lotteries Rotary Dream Home. Vincenzo, his wife, Nancy, and their two young daughters were presented the keys to the grand prize $1.26 million, 2,537-square-foot Avi Rotary Dream Home built by Homes by Avi in the southeast community of Rangeview. Anthem Properties is stirring excitement in Currie as they tap pent up demand for new townhomes in the dynamic, southwest inner-city community with the opening of Billy.

CHESTERMERE THE CONTINUING EVOLUTION OF
If the only thing you know about Chestermere is its lake, then you might be in for a surprise the next time you visit this vibrant, growing city just east of Calgary.
Chestermere has been on fast track to growth, with a population of 24,649 in 2022, the 19th highest in the province, according to a Government of Alberta census. And it continues to grow at a 6.38 per cent clip yearover-year, and 15.7 per cent in the last five years, making it the 17th fastest growing municipality in Alberta.

RECREATIONAL HAVEN
Beach fun in the summer, outdoor skating rink in the winter, Chestermere Lake is what has made the city such a prime destination for active, young families. “It’s the only lake in the Calgary area that allows for motorized recreation,” Mangat says.
There is also of course the Lakeside Golf Club in town, a semi-private beautifully manicured 18-hole Championship Golf Course. The Calgary Yacht Club is on the shores of Chestermere Lake, and Anniversary Park is the lakeside park where many of the young city’s social and cultural life happens.
Chestermere Landing is the city’s first commercial centre where the iconic Dockside Bar and Grill is located, and it has opened its marina for recreational activities in the summer and winter.
The massive East Hills shopping centre is right on the border between Calgary and Chestermere, and its cinemas, big box stores and boutique diners have provided a ton of convenience to residents along the 17th Avenue SE - Chestermere Blvd. corridor.

2023 BILD CALGARY REGION AWARDS ANNOUNCED
The stage is set to find out the best of the best in Calgary’s new home industry this year, as BILD Calgary Region (BILDCR) announces the finalists for the 2023 BILDCR Awards.
More than 700 entries were submitted vying for the 62 awards across 11 categories that encompass everything involved in the new home building industry in the city – from sales, marketing, new home designs and more.
Winners of the prestigious BILDCR Grand Awards will also be picked based on the finalist results of a combination of entries that have been set by the BILDCR Awards Committee. The BILDCR Grand Awards will be presented to the BILDCR Builder, Renovator and Partner members for their astounding accomplishments in 2023.
“The BILDCR Awards program stands as a testament to the remarkable creativity and innovation of BILD Members, annually highlighting their ability to craft products that not only emphasize affordability and choice but also reflect the evolving demands of the Calgary housing market and beyond,” says BILDCR CEO, Brian Hahn.
With over 700 entries received this year, it underscores our industry’s agility in adapting to market trends and commitment to delivering homes that cater to diverse preferences within Calgary and the surrounding region.”
BILD Calgary Region is the result of the amalgamation in 2016 of Canadian Home Builders’ Association – Calgary Region and Urban Development Institute – Calgary with the goal to create a unified voice to better serve the building industry in Calgary and the region. The organization’s roots go as far back as 1946.
BILDCR works closely with various levels of government and stakeholder groups to ensure vibrant, established neighbourhoods and new communities in the region – now, and in the future. BILDCR provides members with a variety of opportunities to learn, connect and share knowledge in order to improve the industry and ultimately meet the housing needs in the Calgary region. Awards will be handed out at the gala event on April 20, 2024, at the TELUS Convention Centre.
