FOR THE LOVE OF FEBRUARY

WHAT’S HAPPENING There’s a lot to love about February. If you’re a winter enthusiast, you’ve got another full month of the season to enjoy. Over the cold weather? Well, the days are getting longer, and that means spring will be here before you know it. Plus, this month has two super sweet and fun holidays to celebrate! First, Valentine’s Day – aka the perfect excuse to indulge in some of YEG’s decadently delicious and locally made treats (my faves listed below). Next up is Family Day on February 21, which means we’ve got a long weekend to plan for – or just schedule a visit to the anticipated Silver Skate Festival in Hawrelak Park. Now in its 33rd year, Edmonton’s longest running winter festival is filled with winter experiences for the entire family. Silver Skate is on from February 11-21, details at silverskate.ca. As always, stay safe and updated on any public health measures at alberta.ca/covid-19

Sweet Dreams are Made of These…

1 2 3

Your Valentine, Galentine, BFF (or yourself!) will not be disappointed with these super scrumptious and wonderfully local treats. 4

Flirt Cupcakes

Serving up sweetness since Valentine’s Day 2009, this cupcake shop offers an exceptional variety of flavours – like cookie dough, Neapolitan, salted caramel, cherry bomb and more. They’ve also got a variety of other delicious indulgencies to enjoy. Don’t miss their incredibly cute Valentine’s menu!

JĀCEK Chocolate

Valentine’s Day without a box of chocolates? Never! Elevate the classic box of chocolates with these runway worthy designs and decadent flavours. They also have a Valentine’s Box of Joy option (in two sizes) that’s filled with magical delights, including the oh-so-lux Strawberry and Champagne Hearts.

Doughnut Party

No list of treats is complete without these coveted bites of doughy goodness. A box of Doughnut Party will always impress – especially with their creative flavours that change monthly (Oh, yes. February is a good one!). Thankfully, they usually bring back fan favourites and always have their classic dip available.

Bloom Cookie Co.

Cookies are always a good idea, but cookies from Bloom are an even better one. These chewy bits are made without dairy and eggs, plus they are nut-free, so even more people can enjoy them. They’ve got a limited number of Cookiegrams available for Valentine’s Day but are always offering their delicious classics.

DID YOU KNOW?

The Sweet Treats and Latte Festival is on in Old Strathcona from February 5-27. Enjoy some feature treats and lattes at local coffee shops, bakeries, and restaurants throughout the neighbourhood. Details at oldstrathcona.ca

Jayman BUILT goes Net Zero

Jayman BUILT is taking its Net Zero homes to the next level as they add two more energy efficient housing options to the already robust energysaving capabilities of their homes. With two previously announced energy efficient housing options, Jayman now offers four steps on the Path to Net Zero Certification; Jayman’s Core Performance (standard on homes without exception), Solar Energized Hybrid Performance, Net Zero Ready Peak Performance, and the Net Zero Certified home, known as The Quantum Performance Ultra E-Home, which was introduced in 2021. These options offer Alberta home buyers the ultimate in choice, and alternatives in affordability for their investment in net zero living.

“We are proud to continue leading the way in energy-efficient home building in Alberta,” says Jay Westman, Chairman and CEO. “By offering four options on the path to Net Zero certified homes, we are taking positive steps towards a sustainable future. The renewable energy transition is growing at a steady pace in Alberta, and at Jayman, we have already exceeded the 2050 net zero building code targets that the federal government has outlined for Canada.” For more information about these new energy-efficient options, go to jayman.com.
