Edmonton is beginning to shake off last month’s bitter cold, as February is starting off comparatively milder. Home sales, however, are just as hot as ever. Edmontonians are being treated to fresh new home designs that accentuate the stay-at-home lifestyle, and we get to see a number of examples of these in this month’s features.

First off is Coventry Homes’ newest showhome, Cyrus, in the young community of Brenton at Glenridding Ravine in the southwest. The Cyrus has been one of the builder’s most popular models and its flexibility and verve has allowed it to be featured in a number of different ways. In this latest iteration, the Cyrus takes on a completely contemporary design that underlines style and functionality equally. Check out the cover feature and see what we mean.

We also talk about the challenges of owning the first home. A tough economy compounded by climbing inflation has made it more difficult. We talk to a few homebuilders who outline how they are easing the burden on this important segment of the market by offering designs that cater to the starter lifestyle, as well as financing options that make it easier to come up with the down payment.

“May the Fort be with you” could easily be the slogan for Fort Saskatchewan, as the dynamic prairie town just east of Edmonton offers some tantalizing options for new home buyers. It has a close-to-nature lifestyle that offers plenty of recreational opportunities that we get to examine in the feature inside.

Our very own Salina Halabi gives us a brief tour of the new homes and assorted fun events happening in Edmonton this month in her always insightful Inside Edmonton column. See what she has lined up for February.

Cold or not, February has a lot in store, get to explore the new communities and showhomes, and let us be your Guide.
