We have a long and storied history of excelling at athletics and we are exceedingly proud of all our teams with nine national championships, numerous conference championships, and national team and individual honors among them. Tony Franklin enters his third season as Wallace State’s men’s and women’s tennis coach. After the programs were reestablished in August 2016, Franklin led Wallace State’s men’s program to the 2017 Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) championship during their inaugural campaign. Both the men’s and women’s programs have made National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament appearances under Franklin. Women’s tennis registered a 3.41 GPA under Franklin during the 2017-2018 academic year. Franklin previously spent 26 seasons as the tennis coach at Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City, where he coached both the boys’ and girls’ programs throughout his career. Franklin played tennis in high school at Sulligent before carving out a collegiate tennis career at the former Brewer State (now Bevill State) in Fayette and Huntingdon College in Montgomery. He holds a master’s degree from Auburn University-Montgomery. TIM GARNER, Assistant Coach (tim.garner@wallacestate.edu) Tim Garner enters his third season as Wallace State’s assistant coach for both men’s and women’s tennis. Garner, 36, was instrumental in leading Wallace State’s program to a recent Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) championship and successfully reestablishing the program. Garner previously coached tennis at West Point – his alma mater. Garner played tennis for two seasons at Central Alabama Community College in Alexander City. He is an Auburn University graduate. His wife, Shanda, was a member of Wallace State’s women’s tennis national championship team in 1999.
