PERSONAL, SOCIAL, HEALTH AND CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION (PSHCE) IN YEAR 7 The aim of the PSHCE programme is to provide students with a broad knowledge of personal and social factors which affect their lives, an understanding of the effects of these and the ability to evaluate the positive and negative effects of different courses of action. Citizenship explores issues relating to law, democracy and government; rights and responsibilities. Work covered during the year Introduction to Wallasey School Friendship Skills, Bullying (how to recognise it and what to do about it), SelfEsteem, Communication and Group Work Skills. Rights Respecting Schools - School Charter, United Conventions on the Rights of the Child, Social Responsibility. Health and Safety - Risk Taking, Accident Awareness and Prevention, Home Safety, First Aid, Road and Rail Safety. Healthy Living - Smoking, Internet Safety, Keeping Safe in the Community, Healthy Eating, Avoiding Peer Pressure. Relationships and Sexual Health Education - Friendships, Boyfriends and Girlfriends, Growing up and Changes, Dealing with Challenging Emotions, Puberty, Conception, Personal Hygiene.

The Law - A basic understanding of Criminal and Civil Justice Systems. Relationships and Sexual Health Education -Changing Relationships, SelfEsteem and Effect on Relationships, Sexuality and Stereotypes. Making informed Decisions - Personal Safety, Building Self-Esteem, and Personal Awareness.

Careers Guidance - Equal Opportunities, Stereotyping, Options and Decision Making, Job Research and Action Planning. Health and Wellbeing - Healthy Lifestyle, Emotional Health, Awareness of Mental Health Issues. Drugs Education - The Law, Attitude of Society towards Drugs, Social Responsibility, Drug-Related Emergencies, Taking Risks. Relationship and Sexual Health Education - Family Life and Responsibilities, Boy / Girl Friendships, Basic Sexual Health Information, Contraception, Sexually Shared Infections, Sexuality, Support within the Community, e.g. Brook.
