SLUS SEN

Slussen Š Frida Petersson Stockholm, 2012.

S

lussen is a connection point in the city of Stockholm where everything meet. Trains pass here to go south or north in the country, buses arrive and take off to go to various places in the city, the metro crosses the bridge, cars circle in order to get in and around and people walk here on their way home or away, maybe meeting up with friends for a night out. In summertime, you’ll find people sitting here in boats, coming from lake Mälaren, waiting to be let out to sea.

It is here that the archipelago and the city meet and mix in a sweet and salty coctail. This place is in constant movement. You could say that it’s the heart of Stockholm, where it’s blood flows and it’s veins connect and split. Some people go here for the spectacular view of the higher hills of Södermalm decending towards the lower parts of the city and Gamla Stan. To me, this is one of the most beautiful places in Stockholm with all the harshness in the concrete structure mixed with the simplicity in the functionalist architecture. This book is my tribute to Slussen, what ever will be the outcome of the redevelopment that is about to take place.
