Special Events 32nd Annual Paper Boat Race Each year, staff representatives from each Recreation Summer Camp (Tenderfoot, Little Walnut, Walnut Creek Day Camp, Walnut Creek Sports Camp, Camp Community Arts, Specialized Recreation Camp and the pool lifeguards) compete in a cardboard boat race across the lap pool. Themed boats are made of masking tape, cardboard, and white glue. Each boat is large enough to carry a camp leader across the pool and back. Awards are given both to the race winner and to the camp with the most creative theme. Campers from afternoon camps attend the race during camp hours. Morning-only campers are encouraged to attend the event with their parents or guardians to participate in the boat parade and support their counselors in the cheering section. Pop-Up Playdate Our pop-up playdate provides a safe, clean play space with developmentally appropriate activities and opportunities for fun and socialization. We welcome children ages 0-5 and their caregivers and hope to provide a place to connect and build community. Camp Tenderfoot

Camp Little Walnut

Camp Tenderfoot is specially designed to be a child’s first day camp experience. Children build confidence and develop social skills while making new friends in a safe, supportive environment. Our warm, nurturing staff provides age-appropriate arts and crafts, games, water play and other exciting adventures designed to promote creativity and socialization. Campers must be potty-trained. Each session revolves around a special theme that includes a daily craft, playtime, stories, as well as featuring special park and water days. A camp t-shirt is included with each registration. Must be 3 years old at the start of the session.

Summer at Camp Little Walnut is filled with fun, excitement and enthusiasm. Our age-appropriate games and activities build confidence and inspire independence on a daily basis. Little Walnuts will enjoy exploring their creativity while making new friends. Each week includes special themed activities and adventures designed to delight kids and keep them excited and eager to come back every morning. Each day, our trained staff help campers build self-esteem and improve their social skills while having a wonderful time. A camp T-shirt is included with each registration. Must be 4 years old at the start of the session.

Afternoon Camp Clever Creek Camp Clever Creek uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math in new and exciting ways so that your child can continue to learn and grow, while still engaged in a social camp atmosphere! Walnut Creek Day Camp Summer is the most memorable time of year for children. Kids will enjoy swimming, fresh air and sunshine in a safe and supportive environment. Crafts, games, swimming and other themed adventures promote individuality and creativity on a daily basis. Watch your child build relationships with other local children and find great role models in our trained staff. Campers spend mornings at their selected program, and at Heather Farm Park. Children enjoy all-day excursions on Thursdays-dates and location subject to change. Regular and Extended Care children enjoy Swimming at Heather Farm pool on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays. Each week features a themed special event on Tuesdays. Half Day Care children will get to enjoy the Field Trips on Thursdays. Pickup will be at the Regular Care time. A camp T-shirt is included with each registration. Must be 6 years old at the start of the session.

Walnut Creek Sports Day Camp AG ES 8 - 1 3

Walnut Creek Sports Day Camp We are offering a fully staffed and supervised recreational athletic camp. The program consists of 8 weeks of sessions with your choice of two different sports for each of the sessions with a 9th week session offering bowling. Our camp is specifically designed to teach and develop training skills, basic individual skills, sportsmanship, team strategies and concepts as well as building confidence and selfdiscipline. Focus is also on having fun and enjoyment of the sport.

Regular and Extended Care children enjoy swimming at Heather Farm pool on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays. Each week features a themed special event on Tuesdays. GOLF - Skill, focus, balance and etiquette are integral to the game of

golf. From the beginner to the kid who drives the ball in the center of the fairway, our Boundary Oak Golf Course professional instructors will develop a passion for the game of golf through fun skill building and games. Play is limited to the driving/practice range and greens. FLAG FOOTBALL - Take it to the house! In this fun and recreational, non-contact version of football the skill development and games will allow kids the opportunity to explore football. SOCCER - The beautiful game has never looked better than through the fun and challenging skill development and games that will assist the experienced player to improve, as well as teach the basics and fundamentals to the kid who is not familiar with the game of soccer. MULTISPORT - This collection of traditional and non-traditional sports allows kids to experience a variety of activities within one week. Teens ages 13-15 are invited to sign up for the Junior Recreation Leader Program and learn the fundamentals of being a Recreation Leader! Teens will spend 12-35 hours per week assisting staff members in various City Day Camps. Program includes training, t-shirt, instruction from experienced staff and a completion certificate. The first day of each session consists of training from 9:00am-2:00pm at the Heather Farm Community Center. All registrants will receive an informational letter in the mail.

This summer camp is carefully designed for children, teens and young adults who have special needs. Our professionally trained staff creates a loving and nurturing environment. Emphasis is placed on social interaction, recreational and educational activities and community involvement. Campers experience a fun-filled day camp with crafts, games, nature study, music, sports, drama and swimming. Activities for teens and young adults help to develop independent living skills such as shopping, cooking, social skills and environmental education. SERVICES OF A PERSONAL NATURE : The Camp does not provide

assistance in eating and toileting. Due to the format of the camp we are unable to provide 1-to-1 care. If camper is bringing an aide, please call 925-943-5852. Campers will take classes in a range of mediums including music, visual, performance, and digital arts. Your child will choose a track to focus on, while also trying other art forms. You may start your day in a music class, spend the afternoon painting, and end your day dancing to drums! All of our Camp Community Arts teachers will be working artists who will give you lots of new arts techniques and time to further your arts journey. Full day campers will also participate in recreation activities including swimming at Clarke Swim Center, an arts or outdoors field trip, and joining an afternoon with Walnut Creek Day Camps. Cooking Round the World: An International Adventure!

What’s Cooking, Kids?

Cooking Round the World is the intersection where culinary arts meet cultural education. Campers cook, taste, smell and savor foods from a different country every day, and we cook and eat up to 6 dishes from that country! Camp activities include language development, playing an international children’s game, a daily cooking demonstration, beautiful slide shows, international folktales, trivia games, an afternoon run around, and a rousing competition based on the TV show “Chopped”; kids are the chefs and the staff guide the process! Put on your apron and roll up your sleeves to find out What’s Cooking! Students learn how to create delicious finger foods and easy-as-pie dishes that they will enjoy making and EATING! Tennis Camps LITTLE TENNIS SUMMER CAMPS (6:1 ratio)

(Ages 4-6) Specially designed tennis nets, rackets and low bouncing balls are used to provide an enjoyable learning experience for younger players. Several short breaks are taken so that students can regain energy (bring a snack) and cool down (bring water). Little Tennis students will learn to recognize, demonstrate and successfully hit the forehand, backhand and serve. They will learn parts of the racket, court, and improve coordination and motor skills (i.e. balancing, overhand throwing, catching, and shuffling). Little Rallyers will work to improve their full court abilities through a series of drills and games. Players should bring a snack, water, and spray sunscreen. IMPROVEMENT & JUNIOR TEAM CAMPS (8:1 ratio)

(Ages 7-15) Students are grouped by ability levels on 1st day of class. Introductory students will learn forehand, backhand, volley, overhead and serve through our unique “court rotation and activity system.” Intermediate and Junior Team students will develop specialty shots and play in Singles & Doubles Round Robin Matches. The instructor(s) will help players with scoring, rules and match strategy. Players should bring a snack, water, and spray sunscreen. TENNIS & SWIM COMBO CAMPS (8:1 tennis / 6:1 swim)

(Ages 8-15) Students will enjoy a morning of tennis camp then head to the aquatic center where they will enjoy an afternoon of recreational non-instructional swimming. Students should bring a swim suit, towel, spray sunscreen, and lunch on Monday-Thursday. Pizza will be provided on Fridays.

This ultimate multi-sport camp combines baseball, basketball, soccer, and track & field; allowing young athletes to develop a passion for a variety of sports in one fun-filled setting. Participants explore balance, body movement, coordination, self-esteem, teamwork, sportsmanship, and sport specific skill development in a structured environment with lots of encouragement! Flag football is a fun and safe introduction to “America’s game”.
