Special Events 33rd Annual Paper Boat Race Each year, staff representatives from each Recreation Summer Camp (Tenderfoot, Little Walnut, Walnut Creek Day Camp, Walnut Creek Sports Camp, Camp Community Arts, Specialized Recreation Camp and the pool lifeguards) compete in a cardboard boat race across the lap pool. Themed boats are made of masking tape, cardboard, and white glue. Each boat is large enough to carry a camp leader across the pool and back. Awards are given both to the race winner and to the camp with the most creative theme. Campers from afternoon camps attend the race during camp hours. Morning-only campers are encouraged to attend the event with their parents or guardians to participate in the boat parade and support their counselors in the cheering section.
