Holi Scavenger Hunt and Color Toss

Festival of Colors is based on the traditional Indian festival of Holi where participants gather to throw colored powder as an homage to the bright colors seen during the spring season and unity amongst each other.

Our youngest preschool-age program with a 4:1 camp ratio, this program is designed and led by local elementary teachers, offering opportunities for campers to develop important socialization skills and engage with one another through crafts, stories and playtime. Camp Tenderfoot is specially designed to be a child’s first day camp experience. Children build confidence and develop social skills while making new friends in a safe, supportive environment. Our warm, nurturing staff provide ageappropriate arts and crafts, games, water play, and other exciting adventures designed to promote creativity and socialization. Each session revolves around a special theme that includes a daily craft, playtime, stories, as well as featuring special park and water days. Campers must be potty trained.

Summer at Camp Little Walnut is filled with fun, excitement and enthusiasm. Camp ratio is 5:1. Our age-appropriate games and activities build confidence and inspire independence on a daily basis. CLASSIC DAY CAMP CONTINUED CAMP 301

Camp 301, named after the address of the Heather Farm Community Center, is a new camp specifically designed for energetic campers looking for a more active experience. Kids will have fun while participating in hands-on activities such as lawn games, park and nature explorations, and more! Camp 301 is gameplay reimagined with cones, hula hoops, discs, balls, and bean bags engaging kids’ coordination, speed, and strategic skills. Led by local elementary school teachers, Camp 301 engages kids physically and socially through innovative themed programs with plenty of outdoor space for activities. With swim days on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, special events on Wednesdays, and weekly field trips on Thursdays - your child is sure to have a great time! Camp ratio is 6:1.

Walnut Creek Day Camp is a traditional day camp that includes daily crafts, camp songs, circle time, and weekly themed activities. Led by local elementary teachers, this camp is programmed to stimulate kids ages 6-12 in an outdoor environment while promoting individuality and creativity. There are swim days on Monday, Tuesday and Friday afternoons, special events on Wednesday afternoons, and field trips on Thursdays. Swim is only for afternoon or full day campers. Camp ratio is 6:1.

SPECIALIZED RECREATION DAY CAMP

This summer camp is carefully designed for children, teens and young adults who have special needs. Our professionally trained staff creates a loving and nurturing environment. Emphasis is placed on social interaction, recreational and educational activities and community involvement. Campers experience a fun-filled day camp with crafts, games, nature study, music, sports, drama and swimming. Activities for teens and young adults help to develop independent living skills such as shopping, cooking, social skills and environmental education. The Camp does not provide assistance in eating and toileting and we are unable to provide 1-to-1 care. If camper is bringing an aide, call 925-295-1490 in advance. All aides must be registered and fingerprinted. An emergency form is required and must be on file prior to the start of camp. TEEN WORK EXPERIENCE

JUNIOR REC LEADER

12 - 14yrs

This summer 2023, come join the fun through our Junior Recreation Leader Program! Those ages 12-14 are invited to register and interview for this opportunity to gain work experience and have fun as they learn the fundamentals of being a Recreation Leader. Junior Recreation Leaders will spend 12-35 hours per week assisting staff members and working to meet predetermined objectives in various City of Walnut Creek Day Camps. This is a great way to build your resume while having an exciting summer. The program includes training, t-shirt, Instruction from experienced staff, and a completion certificate. The cost of the program is $400 and this fee is collected when you register for an interview. If a participant is not selected for the program, they will receive a full refund.

JUNIOR LIFEGUARD CAMP

1 Week Session: June 5 - June 9 Mon - Fri | 9am - 4pm | Course 47119 | $300

All students must be comfortable and confident swimming and treading in deep water. This camp covers water safety, basic rescue skills, teamwork, leadership skills, personal responsibility, and an introduction to First Aid and CPR. (Students do not receive CPR/First Aid certification in this course.) During the week Junior Lifeguards will practice skills side-by-side City of Walnut Creek Lifeguards while getting an introduction to Lifeguarding and Swim Instructing. After completing the Jr. Lifeguard Program with proficient skills, Jr. Guards will be invited to volunteer as a shadow lifeguard or swim lesson aide, and will be welcome to train with lifeguard staff at Friday staff training sessions. Fee includes handouts, completion certificate, and t-shirt.

(5 per court) Specially designed tennis nets, rackets and low bouncing balls are used to provide an enjoyable learning experience for younger players. Several short breaks are taken so that students can regain energy (bring a snack) and cool down (bring water). They will learn parts of the racket, court, and improve coordination and motor skills (i.e. balancing, overhand throwing, catching, and shuffling). QUALITY ASSURANCE:

If, after attending the first class, you are not happy with the quality of the program, call us right away. Tell us what was wrong so we can make it right.

WAITING LISTS: Waiting lists are established

once a program has reached maximum enrollment. If space opens, you will be notified via email. You have 48 hours to accept or decline and you must do so online.

CANCELLATION: A program may be canceled if minimum enrollment is not met. A full refund is available. If a session is canceled due to weather and no make-up class is offered, a refund will be provided.

MAKE-UP CLASSES: Make-up dates for missed classes will only be granted for class cancellations resulting from inclement weather or from direction of the Arts + Recreation Department.

ADA ACCOMMODATIONS: In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the City of Walnut Creek encourage those with disabilities to participate in our programs. If you have any special needs that may require specific accommodations, please please contact customer support.
