Summer at Walnut Creek’s Arts + Rec Department is packed with fun for everyone, including camps, classes, and swimming at Clarke and Larkey pools. Plus, big plans are underway for new aquatic and community centers at Heather Farm Park, thanks to support from the Walnut Creek community and City Council. Construction starts Winter 2024, wrapping up in 2027. Don’t worry, Clarke Swim Center stays open during construction, and all of our camps will still be here for you throughout the city in 2025. We’re not slowing down this year though – check out our new Mini Bus transportation program (p.26) and season announcements from Lesher Center Presents, Center Repertory Company, and Bedford Gallery. Summer Sounds, the hottest outdoor concert series in the East Bay!

All concerts are FREE and perfect for the whole family! No tickets are required, but seating is first-come, firstserved, so be sure to arrive early. Located outside the Lesher Center on the Rudney Plaza (corner of Locust St & Civic Dr), concerts run from 5:30 – 7pm.

Inflatable Pool Obstacle Courses!

These inflatable obstacle courses are sure to make this summer a fun and exciting recreational swimming experience. The adventure goes above and beyond the swimming experience with climbing, hurdling, racing, sliding, and swinging for a splashing good time. Add these inflatable obstacle courses, park, picnic, and playground access to your day of swimming for one low fee of $2 splash pass with admission.

is open. The pool is not available for recreational swimming. The spray park has a maximum capacity of 60 kids, as mandated by the county. Capacities are enforced, and participants arriving after reaching capacity will be put on a waiting list and must remain in Larkey Park. No Fri, Sat, Sun.

Poolside Picnic Rentals:

Full Moon Hike

Join Ranger Jack on a night hike under a full moon! This guided hike will take place on the night of a full moon, out in our Walnut Creek Open Space, giving an incredible opportunity to observe this phenomenon away from major noise or light pollution. Have you caught the pickleball bug? Our adult drop-in pickleball program is back at Tice Valley Gym! Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, pickleball is a fun and low-impact sport that’s perfect for adults of all ages and skill levels.

Walnut Creek Mini Bus is a 5-passenger or 7-passenger city vehicle. This is an option for people who need extra help getting in and out of a vehicle. The Mini Bus is also helpful for people who do not use rideshare services. Mini Bus drivers provide rides to locations only in Walnut Creek on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Mini Bus Program Eligibility: To use the Walnut Creek Mini Bus, you must be:

A Walnut Creek resident 60+ years of age

Adult 18+ (with a disability/health condition that prevents using regular transportation)

ABOUT THE SUMMER BIKE CHALLENGE

Free, fun, and healthy, the Summer Bike Challenge is a family-friendly outdoor activity suitable for people of all ages. Offered in all 19 Contra Costa cities, the program motivates residents to explore their towns by bike, get exercise, and collect prizes in the process. The program features a bingo-style gameboard with bikeable destinations. The program is designed to give the public a focused opportunity to experience the fun and ease of bicycling to local destinations and demonstrates to participants that biking can easily replace using a vehicle for local trips.

511 Contra Costa is a countywide program that strives to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality by providing the public with information, resources, and tools that promote mobility options beyond driving alone. No refunds or credits after this time. Refunds are processed within three (3) weeks. No refunds for non-attendance or lack of student participation.

If you wish to withdraw or transfer, request this at least fourteen (14) calendar day before the start date for a credit or refund. A 5% fee per person, per program will be charged. No refunds or credits after this time. Refunds are processed within three (3) weeks. No refunds for nonattendance or lack of student participation. Withdrawals may be done online. Transfers must be done in person or over the phone.

QUALITY ASSURANCE:

If, after attending the first class, you are not happy with the quality of the program, call us right away. Tell us what was wrong so we can make it right.

WAITING LISTS:

Waiting lists are established once a program has reached maximum enrollment. If space opens, you will be notified via email. You have 48 hours to accept or decline and you must do so online.

CANCELLATION:

A program may be canceled if minimum enrollment is not met. A full refund is available. If a session is canceled due to weather and no make-up class is offered, a refund will be provided.

MAKE-UP CLASSES:

Make-up dates for missed classes will only be granted for class cancellations resulting from inclement weather or from direction of the Arts + Recreation Department.
