Welcome to Casa Lund Welo

Welcome to our holiday home in Spain. We have been fixing up our apartment since 2017 and in 2023 we decided to share it with others (when we can’t be here ourselves). We have done the best we could to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

I am in Norway when you arrive. I will keep in close contact until you are settled in the apartment, and will arrange for one of my neighbors to meet you and show you in. WhatsAPP is used alot in Spain and an easy means of keeping in close contact. So get yourself the

Please contact me in Norway by email, text message or WhatsApp should you have any question at all. I enjoy having contact with our visitors.

Warm regards from Bibbi Lund and Walter Welo

cabinet in living room.

Keys to terrasse—in key box by entrance door. Unlock the two main gates. Please lock the gate to the pool when we leaving the apartment. The key to pool gate from the terrace has code 1-2-3

Carry out the chairs, and gas tank. NB! The gas tank must be placed outside the barbecue. To connect the tank, the green switch must face upwards. Then you can turn the gas on (red switch upwards) NB! Turn off gas tank when not in use. Extra gas tank? Either in storage room on terrace or in bar.

4 solar lanterns can be placed in the plant pots. These turn on automatically so no need to push any buttons.

OBS! Electrical circuits behind Torsheim bildet til venstre for inngangen

Kitchen

Before going out to buy groceries? Please check the kitchen cupboards and fridge. It should be unnecessary to buy spices, flour, sugar etc. Feel free to use what you might find here.

We have some electric applainces, microwave, airfryer, coffee grinder, grill sandwich machine, toaster etc. Most are self explanatory.

Likewise the oven and the ceramic topp. One potential issue? If the ceramic top should «die»? Bring it back to life by pressing the «on» and the «key» buttons down at the same time. It should bring it back to life.

User manuals are in a basket in the corner cabinet

NB! Please turn off AC, when using the stove/ceramic top. The main electrical circuit has a tendency to shut off. Sorry about this.

Garbage – They sort their garbage in Spain. The bins for Tio Charles are located up the street outside.

1. Metal and plastic 2. Paper

3. Glass – under sink in the bar

4. Other garbage—also food leftovers (they do not sort organic waste)

Oppvaskmaskin

You should find detergent tablets under the sink.

Grocery stores

Used most often

Aldi is a nice grocery a 10 minute walk fromTio Charles. There is a huge Chinese department store next door also.

Carrefourt Market is further down the road. There is also a drug store, some restaurants etc.

In Benalmadena pueblo senter, there are a couple smaller food stores, as well as a farmacia, butcher, fruit and vegetable store, bakery etc. Well worth a visit.

Mercadona and Lidl are other grocery chains.

There is a Sunday open Carrefourt grocery near the Xanit hospital.

Entrance/Parkering

Main gate Tio Charles

Apartment entrance

Here you see the entrance to Tio Charles urbanization and our apartment. Free parking along the street outside the main gate. If you are arriving late a key box will be fastened to the gate. Otherwise we will be there to meet you. Our apartment is on the first floor.

Smart TV and Sonos lamp

The TV? We have the Norwegian «RiksTV» which I think should be possible to view? Also access to CNN etc. You may also be able to use your own streaming and TV connections?

Turn on the TV with the TV’s remote. Press «Menu» on the Apple TV remote. Our menu will appear. NRK TV app will work. The RiksTV may require you to log in. Call me if needed and we will try to work something out.

If there is no signal, please click the «source button» on the TV remote and choose HDMI. That always helps!

How to use Apple TV remote?

Click on the open black space at top to «enter»

Swipe back and forth, up and down to navigate. Menu = go back. «Open black space» = Enter

Pause: button at bottom left. Sound: bottom right.

Sonos? Listen to your favorite music from Spotify by downloading the Sonos app. The lamp next to the TV is a Sonos speaker with real nice sound.

Water

Water is safe to drink in Andalucia

However? Most people either buy bottled water or filter it themselves.

Why? The water contains lime minerals which can damage coffee machines and water boilers, so?

Please don’t make coffee with tap water, Only filtered or bottled water.

We have two jugs that filter water, one for the kitchen and one for the bar. So these can be filled as neededfrom the tap.

Bathrooms

1. We have a hairdryer in both bathrooms

2. Extra towels in bathrooms, extra toilet paper in the hall closet.

3. Flushing the toilet? Hold the button down to get best flushing. A short push saves water, but doesn’t always get the job done.

4. Master bathroom? Please note: There is a small piece of black plastic placed over the drain in the shower. Why? Because there is something with the sewage system outside our apartment that tends (on a rare occasion) to suck the water out of the drain, resulting in unpleasant smell. The plastic piece can prevent this from happening. But don’t forget to remove it when showering! Again this is something that doesn’t happen often, and our plumber has been unable to provide a solution.

5. Should water run out of the shower room? Thanks most certainly because hair is plugging up the little drain. Take off the metal piece. It’s easy to unplug!!

Hospital/Emergency

Emergency, dial 112

Hospital Benalmadena is the public hospital, also emergency unit.

The public clinic is located in Arroyo de la Miel. We went there to check it out and no one seemed to speak English.

Xanit Hospital is private. We used their services once, and had to pay. Reimbursed however from travel insurance or the Europeisk Helsetrygdekort for Norwegians. Helfo can be contacted by telephone +47 23327000, or veiledning@helsenorge.no

Xanit is very professional and most employees speak English.

Emergency – (Police, Fire, Illness) dial 112 (free of charge anywhere in EU/EØS) We have placed all emergency equipment on the bottom open shelf in the kitchen. A small fire extinguisher, a fire blanket, and a first aid kit. There is a large 6 kg powder fire extinguisher just outside the entrance door of the apartment.

Walking/driving to Benalmadena pueblo

or taking a bus to Malaga or Mijas

Restaurants—Parking

It takes 15 minutes to walk to the Pueblo. Take the blue route to and the gray home. I’ve circled the pueblo senter with the best tapas restaurant Plaza. There are several nice restaurants here, El Muro, Escorpio, La Fuente.

It can be challenging to find a parking space in the Pueblo but there is a large parking lot quite close to the center. Marked with a blue P in the mddle of the map.

I’ve also marked the location of bus stops. Nr 121 runs about once an hour and will bring you to Mijas pueblo or Malaga (have to change buses in Torremolinos. Bus 103 is a local bus for Benalmadena and has more stops on its route. Download the Consorcio Malaga app and you get all the buses you can dream of. Trains too. The local train runs from Malaga to Fuengirola, the closest stations to Tio being Arroyo de la Miel and Torremuele.

Shopping—Take a drive to Miramar or El Corte Ingles Day trips—May we suggest breathtaking Ronda, or the caves at Nerja, or the worlds largest mosque with a Christian cathedral in the middle in Cordoba, or the Picasso museum in Malaga, or Mijas pueblo, just a 5 minute drive away.

Attractions in our neighborhood—Butterfly

museum, Christopher columbus castle, the Buddhist temple Stupa

The Beaches

Take the bus or drive down to the sea. Less people on weekdays.

Miles of possibilities!

Hiking in the Mijas Mountains

Do you liketo hike in the mountains. This is one of many tours you can take. It only takes a couple hours. You probaby need an app like Terra Maps which makes things much easier.

The green circular route takes about 1,5 to 2 hours. Fairly easy hike for the whole family, young and old, Spectacuar views over Mijas, Fuengirola and the Mediterranean Sea.

Download Terra Maps for hiking trails all over the world. All the red lines are hiking trails.

Important things to REMEMBER

1. Turn off the AC when you are not using the room(s) in these days with very high electrical costs. The rooms cool down very quickly!

2. NB!!! Pull in the awning (markise) in evening/when going out and if there is any chance of rain or wind.

3. NB!!! Please water our plants. Our neighbor Barbara is in charge of watering but doesn’t want to intrude. In dry and hot weather, they should get a solid drink every other day. Use the hose. Thank you.

4. Use only filtered or bottled water in coffee machine and water boiler.
