Its Legacy

sporting events that I would watch with my dad growing up Golf and racing are the couple that specifically comes to mind

In those days, there was only one TV in the house and no fast forwarding through commercials so as an only child if you wanted to watch TV, you watched what Dad was watching.

ways been a classic After some watch went into a drawer and

ad retired, he swore he would ear a watch again He did not have to be anywhere. He worked d now it was time to rest and

oving here to Colorado, he pulled d decided that his watch was for and was going to sell it. Then, as it was laying on the kitchen I remembered watching him hroughout my childhood, and to try it on, expecting it to look big. Oh my! It looked good and I e weight of it.

proudly showed him, but he said it looked too big. But, that was what I liked about it, its presence…

A couple of months later, he was very sweet and gifted it to me for Christmas that year. It was amazing how once the bracelet was fit to my wrist, the weight of it disappeared. It was balanced.

I’ve had the watch 3 years before coming to work at Walters & Hogsett and have worn it every day since My dad has also really enjoyed watching me wear it and relish it It has gone with every outfit for every occasion

My dad purchased his 36mm Datejust (steel and yellow gold, fluted, white dial; although he later had Rolex change the dial to black) in the late '80s to reward himself for a work accomplishment. He dressed in traditional work attire, and I remember it poking out of his dress shirt, or on the weekends resting on the car window.

He wore it on and off over the years, and I remember my uncle and grandfather having them as well

Now that I work here, I realize even more of what a special watch it is and how well they are made It’s fun to hear other people's stories about their watches. It still amazes me how generational Rolexes can be. They are built to last and to be handed down through generations.

My own children are young adults and will ask to try it on when we are out for a meal together. At this point, I’m not sure which of the two will get it, when, or why, but I do know I will do it just like my dad: while I am alive to see them enjoy it.

And Dad has now added two watches to his own collection, proving that timepieces never go out of style

Michelle reminisces about the story behind her timepiece and its legacy.

Rocktober Preview

Take an exclusive look at our favorite colored gems we're talking about this season.

EMERALD

Emerald is a gemstone that symbolizes romance, hope, and rebirth. Emeralds strengthen one's memory and sharpens their wits. This gem is so well-known for its signature green, that it is often used to describe certain hues.

RUBY

Ruby, one of the four precious gemstones, symbolizes passion, protection, and wealth. Aside from its rich color, ruby sits directly under diamonds on the Mohs Hardness Scale, making them wearable everyday. Ruby and sapphire have the same score because they both come from corundum!

LABRADORITE

Labradorite not only looks magical with its changing colors and light reflections, but it is said to hold healing properties, as well. Wearing or even mediating with labradorite can bring the owner a calming sensation and help them to speak and explain themselves more clearly.

FIRE OPAL

Fire opal brings the heat. This gemstone is vibrant in red and orange tones. Fire opal symbolizes one's joy in the heart and different elements in life such as, careers, hobbies, and loved ones. This gemstone is as bright as the burning flames its named after.

CITRINE

Citrine, with its sweet like honey color, gives off positive and optimistic vibes to those who wear it. This gemstone is used for manifesting abundance and opportunities. Citrine has the power to inspire confidence in the wearer.

History of the Cartier Watch

I was always told to never start a story with a quote… but I also remember being told to “get into good trouble, necessary trouble.” John Lewis. Good trouble challenges stagnant thinking and leads to innovation, change and the creation of new ideas.

Alberto Santos Dumont was a challenger of his time and his relationship with Louis Cartier sparked the revolution across the style of men’s watches that we still see in the modern Cartier case line. Alberto Santos Dumont was an inventor, pilot and well known name wherever he traveled. He is credited for making the first significant flight on a powered airplane in Europe and is deemed the

Father of Aviation contrary to the Wright brothers; whom many have credited to be the inventors of the first successful airplane.

As a well known name in town, Louis Cartier and Alberto Santos Dumont became friends, and together they began designing the Cartier Santos watch The idea began after Alberto complained to Cartier about the impracticality of using a pocket watch while flying. Cartier responded by designing a highly legible dial with screws securing the glass; elements of the design we still see in the Cartier Santos timepiece (see above).

The timepiece has been through a few variations to adapt to the modern Cartier automatic movement and integrate new bracelet technology; but the design still nods to the solution Cartier developed for Alberto’s trouble.

I have been wearing a Medium Stainless Cartier Santos and I have to admit it is a watch that caught me by surprise I have loved wearing it on both the metal bracelet and the additional leather straps

It is a watch that allows you to be flexible while pairing with other pieces that still acknowledges the rich history that has built the Cartier brand
