Understanding Rift Sawn Oak Options
Which is best for your project?
QS = Quarter Sawn
RS = Rift Sawn
Rift Sawn Oak is a sub-category of Quarter Sawn lumber. In Quarter Sawn lumber, the annual rings are oriented at a 45 to 90-degree angle to the face of the lumber. For cabinetry and furniture, pieces with an annual ring angle between approximately 70 and 90 degrees are considered Quarter Sawn. Those from the outer portion of the log, with angles of approximately 45 to 70 degrees, are classified as Rift Sawn.
The straight grain of Rift Sawn Oak has surged in popularity in the cabinet and furniture industries. However, the limited yield of Rift Sawn material from each log has led to supply shortages and increased prices, particularly in White Oak.
To meet diverse project needs while managing material availability, WalzCraft offers a range of Rift Sawn Oak options. It is important to note that all WalzCraft products are crafted with the same high-quality construction. The only differences between these options lie in the species, grain consistency, and color consistency of the lumber used.
