Year 2014, Ruby Taiwan is welcoming its’ forth conference featured by Chinese painting style. This app aims at providing up-to-date information of the agenda, news, and coach profiles. Visual Design The visual design of the app has to take into account of the screen size of a mobile phone and the vertical reading direction. It replaces the horizontal wording by three symbolic colors to represent the three elements in Chinese painting. Color white as the rice paper background; ruby red as ink pad; and golden yellow as wisdom and brightness.

The intuitive design of this icon makes it easier for identification and selection. It applies the symbolic form of a ruby to stand out from other App icons. On the top of the ruby seals the name of the conference written in a delicate but strong manner. The red color is in line with the launch image which further strengthen the coherence of the app as a whole.

This is the originaal distinction mark of Ruby on Rails 6

Teacher's Day greeting cards 2012 Illustration Design

From my point view, teacher gives me a warm impression like a bear. As a result, I paint the Teachers' Day greeting card to admire their contribution on education.

Mid-Autumn Festival Card 2012 Illustration Design Mid-Autumn Festival is an important festival to celebrate in Chinese culture. Hence, I draw this Mid-Autumn Festival greeting card. According to the legend, on the Moon lived a rabbit constantly pound sticky rice ball; but I think there lived a giant rabbit monster who decorates the sky with shining stars by its droppings. My card has caught him right at the scene! 11

This is a poster of masquerade activity, and this masquerade theme is professional party. Therefore, I paint Lego dolls with different occupations to publicize the party theme. 14

Gan! 2010 90 × 210 cm Ink stick, Rice paper, Mineral pigment “Gan” is a common four-letter word with strong stress. I use this word to express the emotional reaction occur to people when they see cockroaches. Cockroach has always been the most terrifying living creature to me so as many others. Therefore, I choose it as the subject to create an interaction between the audiences and the painting itself to solve the issue of a painting that it fails to make an impact on the audience’s emotion let alone leaving them impression. I observed the reaction from the audiences and recorded the number of conversations whom I had further contact with. In addition, this art work joined the exhibition with other artists, and the exhibition offered stickers to audiences for comments to artists. After the exhibition, I got major number of stickers which demonstrates the kind of impact I want to give to the audiences. No matter the mood was fear or praise, I have reached the purpose. Paintings interact with audiences’ emotion. 15

Future 2010 90 x 138 cm Ink stick, Silk, Mixed Media

The motivation of this art work is to look into the future. I wonder what creatures could survive until the end of the day if we do not put enough emphasis on the non-recyclable wastes that induce severe harm on earth. I use plastic bottles, Styrofoam plates, nylon line, plastic bags after processing as a background to represent a great amount of indecomposable substances; and a part of a huge cockroach to indicate the gradual appearance of it into our life. How dreadful would it become if the remaining we have in the near future would be nothing but plastics and cockroaches? 16

Track 2007 90 Ă— 180 cm Ink stick, Rice paper, Paper print, mineral pigment, Magazines' pictures

In Chinese, we praise young females as different flowers; however, the metaphor objectify the female in the mean time.I regard that females’ body to be one of the most beautiful creation by god. Even as the years slipped by, females still retain their graceful figure at each stage of life. In my art work, the clipping papers of eyes or mouths with heavy makeup are the symbols of how a girl will doll herself up for him who loves her, putting on all fashion decorations; the naked bodies represent the reification of the female, where simple color is applied to emphasize the pure, natural beauty of them. I hope all females can value themselves more from the inside than the outside. Namely, they should listen to their hearts, their thoughts, and try not to be influenced by the oppressing judgments from others. 17

What? 2010 126 x 124 cm Ink stick, Rice paper,watermark printmaking

What are these hundred sparrows talking about? Their voices are as beautiful as a painting in my point of view. Getting up every early morning, the chatting sparrows on the wire outside the window have made me complete the creation. The cartoon style sparrows has their own facial expressions and personalities; some of them talk to friends next by, some are in a daze, and some are even planning tricks. The chirps of the birds are converted into images and colors to express the volume or pitch a joyful birdsong sounds like. 18

Poems Collection of engravings on drum 2010 92 x 230 cm x 3 Ink stick, Rice paper

19

Engravings on drum started from the pre-Qin literals. It has a text system resembles the Seal Script but differs at its upright and foursquare appearance. I like its foursquare shape which brings the sense of stability from the text. The content is taken from the 7 statements which were made by Mr. Sih-de Huang who sorted out the sentences, a total of 38 pairs.

Nian Nu Jiao--Memories of the Past at Red Cliff 2012 120 x 240 cm Ink stick, Rice paper “Nian Nu Jiao--Memories of the Past at Red Cliffis an effusive Chinese poetry in Song dynasty. Cursive writing can express the emotion of author by writing and ink fluidity, and the wetness of ink variation.

East flows the mighty river, Sweeping away the heroes of times past; This ancient rampart on its western shore Is Zhou Yu's Red Cliff of Three Kingdoms's fame; Here jagged boulders pound the clouds, Huge waves tear banks apart, And foam piles up a thousand drifts of snow; A scene fair as a painting, Countless the brave men here in time gone by! I dream of Marshal Zhou Yu in his day With his new bride, the Lord Qiao's younger daughter, Dashing and debonair, Silk-capped, with feather fan, He langhed and jested While the dread enemy fleet was burned to ashes! In fancy through those scenes of old I range, My heart overflowing, surely a figure of fun. A man grey before his time. Ah, this life is a dream, Let me drink to the moon on the river!

21

Back-flow 2009 70 x 90 cm Ink stick, Rice paper

Back-flow means leaving the place or a person and then the return from which it originated flow is the flowing water back, in Hieroglyphic, means the shape of swilring water. In this art work, vortices represent flowing water; tiny drop of salt indicates the texture of the flow. The blank area delicately show the direction of the flowing fish.

22

Genesis 2010 55 Ă— 100 cm Ink stick, Rice paper, mineral pigment

My writing content is the Genesis chapter of the Old Testament. The temptation of fresh red fruits in front of us, attracting audiences as it allures Eve. Casual writing style, the shades of ink creates an atmosphere like lovers murmuring in the ear. The tone swings like wave, sometimes strong, sometimes weak, luring people to have a bite on the fresh fruits. 23

Chastity in the jade 2010 70 x 90 cm Ink stick, Rice paper

The smooth pure jade implies faithful chastity to describe faithful virtue, showing the beauty of starkness. Therefore I wrote this sentence like a ring shape to mimic ancients who decorated the belts with ring jades. The inscription written horizontally at the bottom means the ground; it corresponds to the circular words written on the top which resembles the moon, shinning people with faithful heart. The top of the seal word-"Ning" means solemnity and is used to emphasize the chastity of the person's state of mind. 24

Seal Engraving 2007 - 2010

Seal Engraving can be traced back to Late Zhou or Qin Dynasties. This art focus on font change and the spatial distribution of font arrangement in limited space. I believe it being the earliest font design. After reading a poem or expressions, I chose an appreciated short sentence as a reflection of my feelings to be the seal words; and the words modeling show the emotions of the characters. Bian Kuan (Chinese: 邊 款 / 边 款 ; literally means "side words") is a whole poem or essay engraved on the side surfaces of a seal. Additionally, I used classical font--Dazhuan, as well as traditional Chinese to show the style of the seal engraving of a different era.

Women 2012-2013

I love painting women figures because they are the most beautiful creation in my opinion. I also love observing women's action, smile; even the end of eye extrusion of crow's feet appeals me. I sketch with simplicity and I make the shadowing be the line extending to their faces. I once sketch a person with one stroke, non-stop. It’s interesting to paint on the street because it would be difficult to correct or modify the works due to the time limit. After a great amount of practicing, I plan to establish a website for painting women passersby. And that’s my final goal of this project.
