all have calming and restorative qualities. Biophilic design can also mimic nature through paintings and biomorphic patterns to improve perceptions of space. Most importantly, biophilia is introduced through the presence of real plants, gardens, green roofs or terraces and should be encouraged wherever possible.

Finally, the combination of all elements in biophilia and biophilic design brings biophilic architecture. In essence, all the beneficial human, social, mental and physical qualities are combined together whilst filtering out vulnerable ‘biophobic’ factors that give us negative experiences, for example thunder and lightning, poisonous plants, animals and predators etc. As such, we are able to exclude these attributes when designing architecture to create a liveable building which is good for humans and nature.
