GREENHILLS BEACH SPRING BEACH CLASSIC A big thank you to everyone who helped out at the Greenhills Beach Spring Beach Classic on Sunday 13th October 2013. It was a hot sunny day and there was lots of atmosphere in readiness for the race. The stalls were a great addition this year and the massage ladies were kept busy. And how fantastic were the under 14 girls doing a Zumba dance! Thank you to Chris Fox and his band of helpers for making this event another successful day at Wanda. A big thank you to our sponsors Greenhills Beach/ Australand and Crust Pizza Cronulla for their support. Also, Brooks, Nova 969 and Snap Printing.

Part Time Office Assistant We are looking for a part time office assistant to work in the office of Wanda Surf Club, working approximately 24 hours per week during the week. The person we are looking for must have good computer skills and a knowledge of Surfguard would be an advantage, as well as good customer service skills. The person we seek for the role would have to have their own ABN number and would be responsible to pay their own super as well as their own payroll tax. The position is a contract position reporting to the Director of Administration . The person we are looking for will also sign a confidentially agreement with the club and would also be working with one other in the office. Solly’s Joke of the Newsletter A girl was visiting her blonde friend, who had acquired two new dogs, and asked her what their names were. The blonde responded by saying that one was named Rolex and one was named Timex. Cook Community Classic Cook Community Classic tickets are now avaiulable for collection from the office. Any member who sells raffle tickets can apply for 70% of the amount that they sold. See Carol or Lizzy in the office to collect your tickets. ??????

BATE BAY CLUBS— BLOOD DONATION DRIVE A competition will be run from 21st November until 21st December 2013 for the four bate bay clubs to see which club and its members can give the most blood donations. There will be a cash prize for the winning club. Wanda won this event last time it was held in 2009. Lets all get behind it and do it for the club, but more importantely, it’s a great cause. More information will follow shortly… Watch this space!

Level 1 Officials Accreditation Courses Saturday 30th November 2013, 9:00am to 4:00 pm Surf Life Saving Sydney Branch Office Clubs are advised that the next Level 1 Officials Accreditation courses will be conducted on: Saturday 30th November 2013 at Surf Life Saving Sydney Branch Office Commencing at 9:00am 16 Murra Murra Place Little Bay 2036

The duration of this course will be from 9am to 4pm. Participants must attend the course for the whole day. This course is restricted to 25 participants. Applications Close: Thursday 28th November 2013 Cost of the course is $80.00 per person which will cover the cost of the kit and a light snack during the course. (Note: Clubs will be invoiced for their member’s participation after the course has been run). Surf Life Saving SYDNEY EMERGING ATHLETE PROGRAM Mini/Selection Carnival Surf Life Saving Sydney invites ANY competitors aged U12 to Opens to take part in the Sydney Branch Emerging Athletes (EAP) Mini carnival for Season 2013/2014 In preparation for the 2013/14 Season Surf Life Saving Sydney will again run a mini carnival as part of the Emerging Athlete Program (EAP). Under this season’s EAP - board, ski & flags clinics were run at Wanda on Sunday 15 September as part of the Surf Life Saving Sydney Gala Day. The next phase of the EAP program will be to hold a mini carnival at Wanda on Sunday 3 November 2013 commencing at 2pm. As in previous years the EAP mini carnival is open to all Sydney Branch competitors from Under 12 to Opens. Events will include – swim, board, ski (U17 to Open), ironperson, beach sprint & flags. The EAP mini carnival is designed to introduce competitors to competition for the upcoming season. Sunday 3rd November 2013, 2.00pm @ Wanda SLSC, registration and late entries from 1.00pm1.30pm ONLY. Marshall at 1.45pm. Entries close ONLINE 10.00pm Thursday 31 st October 2013. Mini Carnival: Events include swim, board, ski, ironperson, flags, sprint. Assistance with water safety will be required from all clubs. Any competitor interested in competing in the EAP mini carnival is to complete the online entry form on Sydney Branch website via http://www.surflifesavingsydney.com.au/online-forms Please note all competitors who have previously nominted for selection in the 2013 Surf Life Saving Sydney Interbranch team, by submitting a 2013 a Interbranch Team Nomination Form, must still complete the online entry form to compete in this carnival. To meet Surf Sports Strategic Goals: 5.2 Provide development opportunities for all participants 5.2.1 Provide opportunities and pathways for athletes. 5.2.2 Provide opportunities and pathways for coaches. Complete the online nomination form by 9am Friday 15 th November 2013. Background Surf Life Saving NSW is calling for nominations from athletes to form part of the 2013 High Performance Camp for Beach Athletes. This camp is dedicated to BEACH athletes from U15’s to Open’s. SLSNSW are also seeking nominations from experienced coaches in the beach event environment to be a part of the program. 24 athletes will be selected from across NSW. This will be comprised of the top 6 athletes (3 x male & 3 x female) from each age group. Camp Information Locations: Collarory Beach, Sydney Northern Beaches Sydney Academy of Sport Running Track - Narrabeen Dates: Sunday 8 December 2013 Time: 9am-4pm Nominations open to: U15, U17, U19 and Open Beach Athletes Food: Lunch will be provided Nomination Process The SLSNSW nomination process will now be completed online via the event page on SLSNSW website. Please visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GJDQJY3 to complete your nomination. Nominations close Friday November 15 at 9am. Nominations will be sent to the respective Branch for endorsement. Successful athletes will be notified by the following week. Selection Policy and Athletes Agreement Before completing your nomination, please read the SLSNSW selection policy and athlete’s agreement. LIFESAVING REQUIREMENTS All Under 15 to Open members shall be rostered to a patrol at the start of the season All members are required to attend their rostered patrols or arrange a substitute for that patrol All members not attending their patrol should advise their patrol Captain before the patrol so that we can ensure that we have correct numbers on all patrols All members must be in attendance before the start time of their patrol to assist with the set up in the morning and must be in attendance during the patrol and not leave unless approved by Patrol Captain All members must ensure that they have their full uniform on for the start and finish of the patrol and this also includes the skull cap as well as the red wide brim hat or cap that was supplied to all members before the end of the season NO MEMBER WILL BE ALLOWED TO SIGN ON IF NOT IN UNIFORM Members must ensure that they advise their patrol Captain when leaving the beach for any reason Members who miss a rostered patrol will have to make up that patrol plus a penalty patrol if no sub is found Members who miss 2 patrols will be asked to attend a Lifesaving Meeting to explain why they have missed Members failing to attend will be suspended from the club until such time they appear All members must ensure that they have done their annual proficiency before 31 st December. If you are not proficient after this date. Members must be VIGILANT when on patrols and ensure that we are carrying out our duty of ensure that people are kept in flag area during patrols (patrols are not for catching up on your sleep) All members of the patrol must assist with the set up and pack down of patrols Request for leave for end of year exams must be applied for in writing to the Club Captain before the dates of the exams All members must ensure that they sign on for patrols in the patrol log and off at the end of the patrol so that your correct hours can be recorded in surf guard All members are reminded that every Sunday at 11.00am we conduct a surf race of which all members must complete at least 1 every month
