Solly’s Joke of the Newsletter There once was a happy little fly buzzing around a barn, when she came upon a large pile of fresh cow manure. Since it had been hours since her last meal and she was feeling hunger pangs, she flew down to the irresistible delicacy and began to munch out. She ate… and ate… and then… she ate some more!

Finally, she decided she’d had plenty. She washed her face with her tiny front legs, belched a few times, then attempted to fly away.

But alas...she had pigged out far too much and could not get off the ground.

She looked around wondering what to do about this unpleasant situation when she spotted a pitchfork leaning upright against the barn wall.

She’d found a solution!!! She realized that if she could just become airborne she’d be able to fly again. So, she painstakingly climbed to the top of the handle.

Once there, she took a deep breath, spread her tiny fly wings, and leaped confidently into the air. She dropped like a rock and splattered all over the floor… Dead fly…

The moral of this sad story?

Never fly off the handle when you know you’re full of sh..

Special General Meeting Sunday 1st June 2014 A big THANK YOU to all the members who turned up for the SGM which was held on the 1st June. This meeting was to vote on whether the club should borrow funds to complete the Stage II building works. The vote was unanimous and a credit to the building committee and members of the club who have worked tirelessly to get the plans up and running, finances sorted etc. The building works are due to start after the Sutherland to Surf at the end of July 2014.

It was great to see so many club members at the meeting, young and old, and some great discussion was had. Well done to everyone involved.

PACKING UP...

The club will be looking for members who can help out with packing up the club. If you have any free time and are able to help with packing etc. please contact the office on 9523 4343 or clubhouse@wandaslsc.com.au to advise.

Congratulations Wanda member, Eloise Wellings, has been selected to compete at the Commonwealth Games in the 5000 metre track race. Good luck Eloise!!!

EVENTS Training hasn't stopped for some of our members with international events fast approaching.

Rescue 2014 Jock Campbell is coaching the team competing at the September World titles in France with Melissa Campbell, John Woods and Ali Najem in tow. The World Titles, which Wanda is the current Under 20 World Champions, include traditional surf events and pool lifesaving events. Log onto www.rescue2014.fr/ for info about Rescue 2014.

Molokai to Oahu Paddle If France does not suit you, what about board paddling between the Hawaiian islands. Thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s what Wanda members Joel Bolewski, Mitchell Allum and Nick Fox have decided to do. The boys have been paddling their specialised long boards for hours at a time already with Joel and Mini paddling from Wanda-Boat Harbour-Jibbon-Wanda recently.

Nick Fox has taken off to Hawaii early and is tackling a series of races preparing him for the big paddle. And he has won!!!! Nick raced in Hawaii last Saturday in the Wet Feet/ Blue Planet 4th Annual World Paddle-board Association Hawaiian Region National Race. This is an eight mile prone paddle board race from Sunset Beach to Haleiwa Beach. Congratulations Nick!!!!

OMMISSION FROM LAST NEWSLETTER SURF LIFESAVING SYDNEY BRANCH AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE At the Sydney Branch Awards of Excellence held on Saturday night, 24th May 2014, Wanda was awarded 6th Place for Champion Club. Congratulations to Cronulla SLSC on winning Surf Lifesaving Sydney’s Champion Club.

Coolangatta Gold Early bird entries are open for the Coolangatta Gold Celebrating 30 years in 2014, the 42km course is not for the faint hearted. Take on one of the most physically challenging endurance races of its kind in the world individually or as a team on the Gold Coast from 1-2 November 2014.

Pool Lifesaving This season Wanda SLSC is again sending a team to the NSW & Australian pool lifesaving championships.

Former Australian representative, Blake McCrindle, will be training the team from the 11th June Wednesdays 6pm @ Engadine pool and Saturdays 4pm @ Caringbah pool. The dates of the championships are: NSW pool lifesaving championships Woy Woy Saturday & Sunday 26-27th July; Australian pool lifesaving championships Homebush 8-10th August 2014.

NIPPERS 50TH Wanda JAG 50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner To all past and present members of Wanda SLSC On 15 November 1964 members of Wanda SLSC formed the Junior Activities Group named Wanda Blue Bottles for children aged 7 years to 13 years. This year marks the 50th anniversary.

We would like to announce the Wanda JAG will be celebrating with a Gala Dinner to be held on Saturday 15 November 2014 at Gymea Trade Union Club. We are also planning a presentation of past history and a display of memorabilia. An Event Organising Committee has been formed and will be headed by Charlie Brown, a Wanda JAG Life Member.

We need your input and help A Sub Committee is required to create the display of memorabilia, memories and stories of the nipper movement over the past 50 years.

If you can contribute in any way, please contact Wanda Surf Club 02 9523 4343 for more information or attend a meeting to be held at 11am on Sunday 18th May 2014 upstairs at Wanda SLSC. The Event Organising Committee would like to invite all those that can contribute to attend this forum to get the ball rolling on this wonderful celebration.

We are looking to gather as much information as possible to cover the eraâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s; 1964-1970, 1970-1980, 1980-1990, 1990-2000, 2001-2014 Memorabilia All memorabilia will be logged and tagged to ensure the safe return to the owner after the dinner Event tickets More news and information on tickets for the Gala Dinner will be out early August.
