STAGE II RENOVATIONS—OPENING AND CLOSING As most of you would be aware, the Stage II renovations have commenced at the surf club. (see artists impression photo on front page of the newsletter). The club is now being pulled apart and is now off limits apart from the gym, boat shed etc. PLEASE NOTE: the mens’ change rooms/toilets are now UNISEX. Please be mindful of both male and female members using these facilities. NO ACCESS is available to other parts of the clubhouse. Members of the building committee have worked tirelessly to get to this stage and we thank them for their efforts so far. Due to lack of interest, we advise that we will have to SEVERELY restrict the opening and closing times of the gym and change room areas. If you can assist us in helping to open and close, please contact the office on lifesaving@wandaslsc.com.au. We thank the ‘few’ members who have offered their services.

SEE TUESDAY’S LEADER: Members of Bate Bay surf clubs to travel with Scott Morrison to Gallipoli in 2015 for Anzac centenary By Jim Gainsford Sept. 17, 2014, 3:40 p.m.
Off to Gallipoli: Scott Morrison with the members of local surf clubs who will be travelling to Turkey with him on the 2015 Mateship Trek. Picture: John Veage
FOUR young members of Bate Bay surf clubs will be among the first Australians to visit the Gallipoli peninsula in the 2015 centenary year of the Anzac landings. Georga Sargeant, 20, from the Wanda Life Saving Club, Jackson Towns, 18 of Elouera Life Saving Club, Joel Eaton, 26, of North Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club, and Hayden Sawyer, 24, of Cronulla Life Saving Club will take part on the 2015 Mateship Trek to Gallipoli with Cook MP Scott Morrison. Wanda SLSC president Anita Pryke will be a mentor. Mr Morrison started the Mateship Treks in 2008 with Blaxland MP Jason Clare. The treks take young Australians from the Cook and Blaxland electorates from different backgrounds to retrace the steps of Australia's Diggers. "In 2009, we walked Kokoda; in 2011, the Sandakan Death March and in 2013, we returned to Papua New Guinea walking the Black Cat Trail from Wau to Salamaua," Mr Morrison said. "We will travel to Turkey to commemorate those who served at Gallipoli and retrace the steps of both Australian and Turkish soldiers. "The trek will conclude on Australia Day with a dawn service at Anzac Cove, where more than 1000 Australians are laid to rest at several burial sites." With them will be two Australian servicemen from Soldier On veterans group. "Our purpose is to focus on what we all have in common by connecting with the unique legacy we share as Australians provided by those service men and women who sacrificed so much," Mr Morrison said. "With these young leaders we give renewed honour; to understand their story, their sacrifice, their lives; to walk in their footsteps and allow that experience to change us. "The unity Jason and I seek is not a lowest common denominator consensus but to build lasting relationships between young leaders from vastly different backgrounds to see past their differences and celebrate what they have in common as Australians.
