This project is a set house in Berlin. We actually have three options of the site and they are all by the side of the river. The one I have chosen is in a rectangular shape, with two original buildings already set there in the middle. So the challenge will be how to make a good design and match with the old ones at the same time instead of taking them away.W This is a building with 6-7 floors and there is a metro line goes by the north of the site, which is about 3-floor-high. Therefore, people live on 3-6 floors could have the best view to the river. That is why I open the yard to the city on the bottom part and to the river on the top.On the other hand, people have the best entry from the city. The townhouse becomes not that lonely anymore with the corridor connected to the platform in the middle. Also it can make people feel not that tall and getting tired of it.Every house now has its own stairs inside. For the townhouse,it has two entries now.The bottom part could be more public and mostly used for office work, while the top part is mainly used as private space like bedrooms.

From the research of medieval monastery I learned that type of community is organized by the cloister, which has two main functions: entering the programs around easily and the courtyard inside to communicate. By folding all the programs inside, my project becomes a huge enclosure, creating a feeling of being protected and a place of their own.
