1.0 THREE RELATIONSHIPS
There are three short projects that are Point Line Plane, Mass and Frame and Infill respectively and they relate to each other spatially. For the PLP project, it concerns the space on the ground. The concept of becoming naturally from point to line and to plane is explored. For the mass project, it focuses on the space under the ground. The main concept is about contrast between solid and void, darkness and light and touch and see. It encourages exploration of excavated ground, the heavy mass structure. Lastly, for the frame and infill, it addresses the space that above the ground. Specifically, it encourages develop views out of the architecture horizontally and vertically. In general, each three short project emphasized on three different levels of space, which will guide the final project, A place of keeping secrets, as the final project is a combination and further development of these three small ones.

1.1 POINT / LINE / PLANE From the precedent, I derive the idea of growing from point to line and to plane, essentially from less to more. Then I project it into my design, as both timber beams and concrete slabs show the idea of becoming with the tectonic of repeating and rotating. In terms of the atmosphere, asymmetric design and opposite direction of rotating provide an informal and relaxing place for people to relax.

1.2 FRAME & INFILL The idea of twisting two identical cubic frames and the composition of infill create four major framed views horizontally. Also, there are framed view out of the sky and the ground. In addition, the selection of four different materials produce different atmosphere. It is the experience of enjoying contrasts between negative and positive space, and an exploration between opacity and visibility. The use of bright pink color somehow activates the space and makes the architecture vivid.

1.3 MASS
From the precedents below, I am inspired by the concept of interrelationship between positive space and negative space as well as brightness and darkness. Therefore, I apply this idea into my design. There is gradation of light in this architecture: faint light atmosphere, completely dark space and absolutely bright space. Also, the sense of vision and touch are encouraged to be activated in this ten-meter underground architecture.

2.1 SITE ANALYSIS AND CONCEPTACLE
My focus is on how to design a composition that suits for the site of Herring Island particularly and how visitors can approach the composition. So I did the contour line analysis and approaching analysis then I choose this place as my site because this site is on the edge of the island which I can design composition that zones can be sequenced vertically. Also, I could use the original approach as the approach to my site as you can see in the site plan. The benefit of this site is that I can explore the concept of secrets of places with spatiality vertically and somehow connecting the land and the river, the ides of connecting all together.

2.2 CONCEPT AND DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
This conceptacle model is what I made in the very beginning of this project. My idea is to create three parallel layers spatially. Also, it can be seen that all stages of development concern about the spatiality carefully.

2.3 FINAL DESIGN DRAWINGS There are five zones in this composition. In the section, from left to right, there are toilet, courtyard, colonnade, and three zones, above ground, below ground, and ground surface. I project each idea of last three projects into each zone in these three different levels. I express the frame and infill in the zone that is above ground, mass in the zone below the ground and point, line plane in the ground surface, specifically the river surface. With each different expression at three zones, I expect to explore different atmospheres for visitors.

2.4 DETAILS
On the top level, the frame and infill design concentrates on the view out of it. It encourages visitors to explore framed views of the wood and the sky. The material is corten steel as it offers an old and decay feeling that interacts with timber cladding around. In the medium level, the mass structure blocks out of most light from outside and make visitors focus on the sound and echo from the outside. It also can be used as a recording room because of the faint light in the room. The heavy mass material, concrete slabs contrast with light materials on the top level and make the atmosphere of faint light stronger. Then, the river-side level provides a platform that visitors, especially children can play with water. It is a secret place that children would identify them. As the section shows, you will be like standing above the water as the materials for these slabs are transparent. In this level, the idea of bring water into the structure makes the water part of the design. It is a design that expresses the positive space of the slabs and negative space of water as a whole.

2.5 FINAL DESIGN MODEL
rk by Constance, 2016
The first factor about the concept of secret is manipulating squares and rectangles vertically and horizontally and with different materials and shapes. The other secret is the idea of connecting all and the concept of expanding. As the timber cladding flows all over the architecture, it blurs the boundary of roofs, floors and walls. The secret here is also about the idea of expanding. Until the visitor comes to the bottom level, he can finally realize what the architecture is as a whole. Also, there would be a paradox of which side the architecture is expanding and growing to. Whether the architecture is expanding from the water into the wood or from the wood into the water. It is a mystery for visitors to think and explore and it is also a secret that visitors may or may not discover.

3.0 REFLECTION During this semester, I have learned how to analyze a designing brief and come up with an initial design idea, which is conceptacle. Conceptacle model is a very useful designing tool, which can express very broad aspects such the materiality, the key effects of the formal design, the direction of how the design can develop and improve. In another word, a conceptacle model can be any element that will inspire further development and it is something like architecture in its purest sense. What I take from my conceptacle model is the presence of spatiality and I explore the idea with materiality and atmosphere to produce the final model. The second thing I learned is making a model both physically and digitally. I only used Rhino to develop the secret pavilion project and I find that the 3D model can help me to develop the details better than physical model because of higher efficiency. Also, I think conceptacle model and developed architectural drawings are beneficial for the initial design process. There is something weak in my design though, which may be the lack of a consistency or harmony in the design. It is something that is hard to describe and I think it is a quality that a good architect must own. In the future, I will develop my skill and intuition through analyzing a great number of precedents and through continuous practices.
