The SF Tenderloin Library was formed based on an examination of manipulating curves that allow morphed spaces where users find it easy and intuitive to maneuver through. Two sets of curves were initially stuidied through section drawings and further amalgamated into a solid. The solid was then abstracted from the given cuboid. The product of such strategy created a void that inherits the initial spacial qualities. By exploiting architectural elements such as bookshelf, computer labs, lightwells and circulatory pathways allows the architecture to guide users through the space.



In the following page, a series of models was being explored through substracting volumes from an existing solid in order to create voids which intersect with one another. An investigation was further carried out to scrutinized usable, inhabitable spaces.


UC Berkeley Architecture 100B Good Food Project


Precedent Study A precedent study of “The Saving Bank� located in Denmark, Middelfart, was carried out initially in order to understand the morphology behind facade’s architectural forms and functions. These functions consist of thermal control, air circulation and glazing system.

Conceptual Diagram Crosswind and gales in San Francisco were observed during the initial site visits. These elements supplemented the idea behind the initial design and transformed into a conceptual diagram. The diagram determines the formation and functions of the building.


The Good Food project

The Good Food project is a study that explores the intergration of folio-dynamic between building facade system. The building took on the form of the previous conceptual diagram and the facade further plays an essential role which serves functions such as thermal control, air circualtion, and the glazing system.

UC Berkeley Architecture 100B Good Food Project

Through analysis of the urban fabric of East Oakland, and the grain of the city, The True Food Restaurant incorporates and embraces the notion of the alleyway. The Alley, throughout inner cities are traditionally viewed as residual, and informal spaces for people within the community to gather. More recently, Alleys have been transformed by artists into areas of interest and modern galleries. Taking the notion of this modern Alley, the design of the True Food Alley Restaurant weaves the idea of alleys and shipping containers. This was formulated to sequentially educate people in the community on the importance of food. The process of making food, is just as much as an art as any painting or mural. By emphasizing the food making process as an art in the alley, the people in the community are presented with an innovative architecture that solves and influences people to be more conscientious about what they eat.

Academy of Arts IAD611 SUMMARY THE MAIN PURPOSE FOR THIS PROJECT IS TO DESIGN A COMMUNITY CENTER FOR THE REFUGEES. ONE OF THE FEW CHALLENGES WE FACED WAS TO PROVIDE A SENSE OF BELONGING TO THE USERS. AS A RESULT, THE COLOR AND MATERIAL SELECTIONS ARE MAINLY BASED ON NATURE MATERIAL AND COLOR SUCH AS GRAY, WHITE, BEIGE AEGEAN BLUE. THE CORE PROGRAMS THAT THE WHOLE PROJECT IS SURROUNDED BY ARE THE CAFE LOCATED AT THE FIRST FLOOR AND THE ROOF GARDEN. THE CAFE, LOCATED IN THE CENTER OF THE FIRST LEVEL IS CONNECTIED WITH THE RECEPTION HALL, ENCOURAGING USER TO EXPLORE THE SPACE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CAFE. ALSO, THERE ALL A MINI LIBRARY LOCATED WITHIN THE RECEPTION HALL. THE PURPOSE OF THIS SPACE IS TO CREATE A DIRECT CONNECTION WITH THE CAFE, CREATING MORE OPPORTUNITY FOR THE USER IN THE CAFE TO EXPERIENCE THE SPACE. THE SECOND FLOOR CONSIST THREE CLASSROOM AND THREE OFFICE SPACE, WRAPPING THE CENTER PROGRAM WHICH IS THE OPEN SPACE COMPUTER LAB, THIS COMPUTER LAP IS ALSO LOCATED BENEATH THE SKYLIGHT OPEN TO THE ROOF GARDEN ON THE THIRD FLOOR, AS A RESULT, THERE WILL BE ABUNDANT DAY LIGHT WITHIN THE SPACE AND THE LOUVER WRAPPED AROUND THE LIGHTWEIGHT WILL ALSO PROVIDE SOME PRIVACY FOR THE USER BELOW. THIS PROJECT’S GOAL IS TO CREATE A SENSE OF SERENITY FOR THE REFUGEES AS SUCH ELEMENT WILL BE THE MOST ESSENTIAL QUITTER FOR THE PROJECT TO WORK. THE PROGRAMS ARE INTERTWINED BY THE CIRCULATION, PROVIDING MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE USERS TO INTERACT WITH EACH OTHER .
