PROJECT CONCEPT
Temple Brewing Company was launched in 2011. It is both a working brewery and a place to eat and drink. It is where you can recharge and be inspired by the food, the beer and people. All the magical things in the brewery are illustrated on the bottle, introducing the place and the spirit that it holds. DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
Starting from the ingredients to finally serving the beer to the customers, Temple is proud of its product. It is like a machine that contains fun and energy. With the idea of the Rube Goldberg Machine, a visually appealing 3-dimensional illustration is created for the bottle. The details and continuity attract the viewer’s curiosity, and tell the company story.

PROJECT CONCEPT
ISA celebrated its 50th anniversary in the year 2015, which makes it a good time for ISA to be reintroduced with a fresh, modern and powerful look. The new logo shows a congregation of brave young minds, healthy physiques and the aloha spirit. DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
A customized typeface is designed for “ISA”. The bold weight and slightly slanted angle add energy to the type. Holding “ISA” in a shape gives the letters protection and emphasis. A wave nicely blends into the letter forms. It acts as a recognizable symbol for surfing and creates a visual dynamic for the logo.

PROJECT CONCEPT
Often times when people see parrots, they think about their beautiful feathers and their ability to talk like humans. We mostly only see their surface without knowing more about them. The book will study parrots from deeper angles, such as their living areas, body structure, brain anatomy and intelligence, and their relationship with humans. DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
Parrots have the most colorful feathers among all birds. They are very active when playing and talking with humans. The lively colors and mood of the book are inspired by their personality.

Congenital deformities from genetic or incubation abnormalities can show up soon after hatching. These may include variation in curvature and size of the beak. Developmental deformities may also occur during growth and are more common in hand-fed macaws and cockatoos. In macaws, a lateral deviation of the upper beak occurs, also known as scissors beak.

These amplified frequencies allow us to distinguish vowels. Surprisingly, it turned out that songbirds also make use of formants when singing. And just like people, parrots for instance, use primarily the tongue. ‘This might explain why parrots are able to imitate human speech,’ says Ohms.
The function of the parrot beak is for climbing, as well as manipulating and crushing objects.

02 VOCAL LEARNING Parrot feather pigments appear to have properties that promote resistance to bacterial degradation, reports a group led by Edward H. Burtt Jr. of Ohio Wesleyan University (Biol. Lett., DOI: 10.1098/rsbl.2010.0716). Most birds get their feather coloring from carotenoids in ingested food, but parrots synthesize their own pigment molecules in the form of polyenal lipochromes called psittacofulvins. Scientists believe that the brilliant parrot colors arise from either supramolecular or covalent interactions of the psittacofulvins with structural proteins in feathers, with shorter chain psittacofulvins producing yellow colors and longer chains producing red.

Parrots, hummingbirds, and songbirds, along with humans, are among a small number of animal groups to display vocal learning. We are studying the brain structures used when learning and producing vocalizations. Similarities in the brains of these two groups may reveal constraints on the evolution of brain structures necessary for vocal learning.

Although there are a few exceptions, parrots are monogamous breeders which nest in cavities and hold no territories other than their nesting sites. [34][40] The pair bonds of the parrots and cockatoos are strong and a pair remains close even during the non-breeding season, even if they join larger flocks. As with many birds, pair bond formation is preceded by courtship displays; these are relatively simple in the case of cockatoos. In Psittacidae parrots common breeding displays, usually undertaken by the male, include slow deliberate steps known as a "parade" or "stately walk" and the "eye-blaze", where the pupil of the eye constricts to reveal the edge of the iris. [34] Allopreening is used by the pair to help maintain the bond. Cooperative breeding, where birds other than the breeding pair help the pair raise the young and is common in some bird families, is extremely rare in parrots, and has only unambiguously been demonstrated in the Golden Parakeet (which may also exhibit polyamorous, or group breeding, behaviour with multiple females contributing to the clutch).

PREFRONTAL PROCESS
The other thing that helps in identifying parrots is their unique body shape. A strongly curved bill, large head, and short neck give parrots a distinctive silhouette. The parrot bill is one the great multipurpose tools of the animal kingdom. The tip of the downward-curving upper mandible fits over the upward-curving lower mandible. The base of the upper mandible has a fleshy covering called a cere and articulated with the skull. In concert with a muscular tongue and well-developed jaw muscles, the parrot bill provides strength and dexterity.

Intrigued by this anomaly, Rob Heinsohn and colleages set out to find an explanation. Setting up camp in the Cape York rainforest, they spent several years unraveling the lifestyles of males and females. Males spent more time foraging than female and did not have access to the nest

SINGING
Here we investigated neuronal activation, measured as expression of the protein product of the immediate early gene ZENK, in relation to auditory learning in the budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus), a parrot. Budgerigar males successfully learned to discriminate two Japanese words spoken by another male conspecific. Re-exposure to the two discriminanda led to increased neuronal activation in the caudomedial pallium, but not in the hippocampus, compared to untrained birds that were exposed to the same words, or were not exposed to words. Neuronal activation in the caudomedial pallium of the experimental birds was correlated significantly and positively with the percentage of correct responses in the discrimination task. These results suggest that in a parrot, the caudomedial pallium is involved in auditory learning. Thus, in parrots, songbirds and humans, analogous brain regions may contain the neural substrate for auditory learning and memory.

on where they live. These different accents enable birds to form and maintain flock systerm and are a sign of sophisticated communication
It isn’t only in communication that birds excel. They are complex through and through. For example, aside from humans, birds are the only other animals to invent tools they use on a daily basis. Some primates use objects they find, but none have avtually created tools the way birds have. Crows and finches bend twigs to hook food out of places too deep for them to reach with their beaks, an ability that has been replicated in a laboratory. In repeated tested, New Caledonian crows provided with only straight pieces of metal wire spontaeously created hooked tools each time they needed to reach inaccessible Moc

Ohms focused in her research on so-called formants. These are frequencies in the sound of the human voice which are amplified by the tongue and lips. These amplified frequencies allow us to distinguish vowels. Surprisingly, it turned out that songbirds also make use of formants when singing. And just like people, parrots for instance, use primarily the tongue. ‘This might explain why parrots are able to imitate human speech,’ says Ohms.

Parrots are mostly green, with splashes of red, yellow, and blue. Males and females are usually similar in appearance, though males are more brightly colored than females in a quarter of species.

PROJECT CONCEPT
Lush is a strong voice for 100% handmade and natural products. The messages on the packages are always simple and bold. For the logo redesign, I want to show a hint of organic feeling and give the brand a cleaner, more cohesive and more refined look, yet at the same time still show some personality. DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
A customized organic typeface, inspired by plants is used for the new logo. On the packages, I keep their main black and white contrast, and use bold colors to bring out the playfulness. These are important elements of Lush’s original brand recognition.

PROJECT CONCEPT
Through the different perspectives of every photographer, we experience different stories. Everyone has a unique eye exploring things in this world. The concept for designing the new logo is to show different themes for the photos, such as people, nature, plants, buildings, colors, etc. DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
The gray box represents a photo, with a speech bubble coming from the back, as it is telling the story behind the image. The bubble on the main logo has multiple colors that represent different themes. The organic shapes inside create a playful visual dynamic.

PROJECT CONCEPT
In schreberg채rten (allotment garden), people build a small community full of gardening sections, where they keep animals, grow flowers, vegetables, fruits and other kinds of plants. It is all about living a healthy life and building a green city together. DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
An abstract plant-like pattern is used to express the idea of gardening communities and the process of spreading this idea. The curvy patterns with soft earthy colors work seamlessly with the shapes of the tools to give an organic and natural feeling.

On a sunny weekend in San Francisco, people gather with their families and friends for fun activities. A barbecue is one of the most popular choices. At BBQ parties, different types of people come together, so a diverse and creative group is formed. DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
A character named Rox is created for the brand. He is full of enthusiasm and attitude. Rox can always bring fun topics to the conversation, just like the sauce adds special flavor to the meal.

PROJECT CONCEPT
The project was first started in Cameroon. We deliver basic life necessities and educational goods to rural tribes across the country, and partner with local small business owners there to help sell their products in the United States. The “two-station idea builds a strong link between us and them. Fifty initiates a new way to structure donation based companies by equally balancing philanthropy and autonomy. We build partnerships, broaden community and strengthen the economy.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
The reason why we package donation goods is that we want people to receive these items as if they were receiving gifts from us. Packages also have the function of protection. Things like clothes and hygiene products need to be kept clean during transport. The information shown on the packages is minimalized to the basics. We want people to easily understand and use these goods. Simple icons and illustrations are also being used to help us deliver the message. We branded the crafts as high end products because we respect and admire African culture and traditions. People there have special talents and we appreciate that what they have produced is very precious, beautiful and original.
MAIN BRAND NAMING
We believe that the current outlook of only donating for immediate relief is fifty percent of the solution to help poor areas. The other fifty is to provide opportunities for people to create their own success. Combining these two ideas together makes the half into a whole. This is the Fifty solution. Fifty makes the relationship equal and balanced. We are creating benefits for each other and learning from each other. SUB BRANDS NAMING
The sub brands are divided into two parts, donation and retail. The donation brands are life supplies that we give to people in Cameroon. We use simple verbs that are basic, friendly and easy to understand. The words encourage people to take action and be a part of this relationship. The two retail brands are located in the United States and sell beautiful hand-crafted goods from Cameroon. We gave some African flavor to the names, which brings the cultural aspect to the brands. Akila is a name that is often given to baby girls and has the meaning of intelligence. Ma Ndemi is a volcano in Cameroon. The name means “mountain of the greatness. We use it as a symbol of the land and the lives that it holds.
