26-year-old Amos Ndutumo aka Konkizy, is one music producer to watch this year. He has been in the music industry for the past five years, and has made a huge impact with his musical prowess. I got up close and candid with him to know what makes him standout from other producers in Kenya. Here is what he had to say: When did you start your own studio? I started back in 2013 What did you study in university? I studied Economics in Kisi University What other career path would you have taken if it weren’t for music? Music is everything but Acting was also my passion in High School. What have you done on an international level? I’ve sold beats online. Where do you see yourself ten years from now? Making it big as I’ve worked with big Kikuyu artists(vernacular) What is your opinion about the Kenyan music industry? It needs salvation. Who are some of the artists who you admire? Khaligraph Jones as he is taking our music to an international level and King Kaka is more of a business man than an artist. What about stage shows/events?
The sound systems are not good, promoters don’t do enough. They need to get more sponsorship for financial support. What is your opinion on Illuminati? What is portrayed as bad is not bad and vice versa. What inspires your fashion sense? I am deep into Hip-hop Culture. How does business work for you? I get most of my customers online, through referrals and word of mouth. Where is your studio located? Studio charges? Zimmerman 44.I charge 6000kshs for audio and 2000kshs for beats. Any advice to your fellow Kenyan producers? Hold onto the dream and don’t listen to people.
