Naomi Wamboe: Life, Love and Music
What inspires your music? Emotions, feelings, life events, whatever I’m going through at that time and relationships. How do you feel about female artists in Kenya? They are really underrated. Where do you see yourself ten years from now? Performing for one million people on a big stage, start a family (settle down) and enjoying life. Do you have any new projects your working on? Yes, I do-I have a compilation album, an EP with Ulopa and and EP with Atwol. What made you come back to Kenya? I’ve always loved Kenya, Ive always wanted to go to school in Kenya and to pursue music. How was life growing up in the States? Life in the States was nice and fun. Life is easier there. Do you face any challenges in your music career?
Just being a woman, dealing with males dominating the industry wanting to sleep with me. I’m not about that life plus Kenyans just being haters. If it weren’t for music, which other career path would you have taken? Managing artists. How is it working with King Kanja as you had fallen out at some point? Its been a good experience since we’ve known each other from the age of 15. We’ve had our ups and downs but we always manage to patch things up. Do you plan on collaborating with other Kenyan artists and which ones are they? Maybe with Khaligraph Jones, Nameless, Kagwe Mungai and Barack Jacuzzi. What was your whole experience like performing at the just concluded Kings and Queens Edition? It was good, I loved the crowd. Advice to Kenyan fans and fellow female artists? Be yourself, don’t ever try to be someone else, stay consistent and be humble. Any last words (favorite quote/life motto)? We have not because we ask not.
