Experiential pavilion Perdana Botanical Garden, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia An experiential pavilion is proposed on an open field that is considered the site that is located at the west of the garden. When the users are walking along the trees on the garden’s pathway, they reached upon an open field with no excitement. By building a structure at the far end west of the site, it creates an exciting physical and visual interest. The structure (experiential pavilion) will provide the users a feeling of appreciation to the park itself when moving around it. At the site, activities such as resting and even the slightest presence of human interactions will distract the users away from appreciating the park. To counter this, a structure with elevating elements are considered to eliminate the sight of the fussiness of human movement, and engaging the focus more onto nature instead. By harmonizing facade and the surroundings, the presence of the structure will lead the users to truly appreciate the surroundings better.

semester 3 | co-exist
Visitor Intepretive Centre Bukit Cina, Melaka, Malaysia From viewing and understanding this historical site, the unconventional idea of a cemetery-park arose. The living and the deceased are tied together in a way that it suggests the existence of a “co-exist” phenomena. Duality is used throughout the design process and elements, at the same time acts as the main core of expressing “co-exist”. Instead of the traditional approach of merely taking history and translating them into forms, this centre will be based upon current and future events that will be adapted with a more abstract approach. The centre will also promotes the idea of to stop constantly looking at the past and start embracing the future. In other words, modernization (intention) with a touch of traditional elements (spaces). This centre will also emphasizes the contrast between exterior and interior elements with the surrounding buildings. The centre will be made memorable and at the same time promote Bukit Cina and boost it’s popularity. This project also hopes to create a new movement of locally-inspired abstract approach on not only in art form, but also in creative works, architecture and even human behaviours in the future.

Kindergarten PJS 7, Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia Derived from self-encounters with children with absence of basic values from their parents in terms of appropriation, manners, etiquettes and cleanliness, suggest a proposal of a kindergarten environment where the values are to be taught at an early age. Improving by rejecting the traditional culture and mindset (of neglecting their children), this kindergarten is all about teaching the basics of discipline (the values). The kindergarten highly emphasizes on the separation of the children from their guardians in order to create maximum concentration, ensure behavioural monitoring, and creating a statement with awareness of the importance of basic values at a young age.

Children aren’t being taught strict enough when was younger, familiarity towards home was encouraged causing distraction. Goes to the next stage of learning (primary/secondary) and behave poorly (bullying, skipping classes etc) due to sudden forced obedience by authorities
problem with traditional learning typology inconsistent typology of learning Especially in the early age, children should be taught proper discipline first to plant the basis of behaviour rather than forceful obedience in the later stage to prevent behavioural disorders and community problems such as bullying and harrasments.

Community skill centre Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia A community skill centre that serves for the elders to have a chance to continue passing on the locality and heritage for them to enter the new era so that it would not be eventually forgotten. This community skill centre aims to bring in both generations together and create a collision of interactions, at the same time making memories. The centre can also lessen the gap between generations by passing on the distinct and unique local skillsets that makes Kajang the town it is and in hope for the next few generations to continue passing them on in the future.

chow kit tunes
project location design concept
Community music centre Chow Kit, Selangor, Malaysia “Thumps of drums and plucks of strings, modulating synthesizers and singsong of vocalists, tunes and rhythms truly enthuse all. The universality of musical composition provokes curiosity, dictates the mind and breaking the routine creating peaks on the flat routine loop. The peaks infuse dynamic and expressive impact that ripples through Chow Kit, attracting whilst dispersing innovation with expressions, pulling the left behinds forward together with the locals as the harmonic instruments orchestrates Chow Kit into the musical future.” Chow Kit presents traces of musical experiences such as the abandoned theatre complexes, open air concert by the late Sudirman, NGOs (such as ANGSANAcare by Yayasan Chow Kit) that provide musical therapy for the locals, tunes of local jamming sessions under bus stops, as well as the abandoned music shops located around the site. The abandonment of the local premises are due to their non-strategic locations, plus the capitalist incarnation of malls that houses maximum convenience of essential retails, as well as a very competitive financial survivalist environment, resulting in the dissolve of a local unification. This community music centre is a promotion and appreciation of musical opportunities such as by harvesting talents from both homeless and stable locals by introducing recording studios and music based classes. This project also bridges the gap between the different characters through the charms of sonorous melodies, providing spaces that amplify the experience beyond with public amphitheatre, stage, experiential spaces, and interactive audio introductory area. Besides teaching and harvesting, this music centre also aims to clean out the negative stain that

MUSIC IS THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE OF MANKIND -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, poet
“It exists in every society (both with and without words), varies more within than between societies, regularly supports certain types of behaviour, and has acoustic features that are systematically related to the goals and responses of singers and listeners. - Universality and Diversity in Human Song, Harvard University

Temporary shelter Lakeside at Taylor’s University Inspired by the surroundings, the shelter is designed to be a fully functional shelter for the needy with daily activities in mind such as sleeping, working, storage, interacting with nature and at the same time sustainable. The shelter also prioritise the anthropometry of human movements and interactions with the shelter, making the relationship between the user and the shelter more flexible and easily operable.

up n up, the playscape
project location design concept
58
Playscape PJS7, Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia Childrens are confined by the presence of static (physical solid walls) and kinetic (parents) walls in the site. The existence of these walls fenced up the freedom that the young ones should have. The lack of risk-taking approach from the children rises due to constant supervision and not exposing them enough. In PJS7, the placement of the children that exists within a series of blockage (PJS7 neighbourhood) inspires a paradox of a potential to connect them together by separating them away from the static and kinetic walls but still within the site. Inspired by the idea of “growing up”, the playscape journey is designed as a series of exciting, continuous, and perpetual motion in mind. This playscape hopes to bring the reality as an element that encourages children to utilise their motor skills and experience a range of physical movements.
