The Royal Life Saving Bravery Awards

The Royal Life Saving Bravery Awards are presented to exemplary Western Australian’s who go above and beyond to assist those whose lives are in danger. From pulling unconscious strangers out of swimming pools, to performing first aid, each person who received recognition for their life saving acts of bravery at the 2023 September awards, is a hero.

Amongst this year’s award winners were four police officers who exceeded expectations and displayed extreme bravery in life threatening situations.

Senior Constable Kelsey Timms and Constable Wynen-Gaugg received Gold Medallions for their heroic efforts when responding to a call about a missing child. Upon arrival they found the mother with her child who was unconscious after having been located at the bottom of a neighbor’s pool. The officers worked together and commenced CPR, reviving the child’s heartbeat after several minutes and assisting paramedics upon arrival of the ambulance at the scene. The child lived for five days after the resuscitation before sadly passing away.

Senior Constable Martyn O’Mahoney, Senior Constable Paxton Jones, and First Class Constable Coen Greaney were awarded Gold Stars of Bravery for their efforts in rescuing a woman from the Swan River. The three officers entered the swan river under extremely poor lighting to rescue a woman with mental health concerns who had entered the river and was struggling to stay afloat.
