Remix Reflection Will Raulin

Will Raulin 3/18/13 Remix Reflection I chose the specific spread from Anna’s project because I liked the colors in the large image that takes up most of the spread. In this spread I also liked the arrangement of images of people which show a relationship between two people and connects the characters in the left image to the ones in the images on the right. In this spread Anna uses the overlaying of opaque images in contrast with overlaying of solid images. This brings life to the characters in the images, as if the spread is their memories, the opaque one being the past and the solid images being the present. When I edited this spread I focused purely on aesthetics and somewhat reflected Anna’s original style as we have similar artistic preferences. I moved the opaque image on the left page of the spread to the bottom left corner because the textures and colors of the water in the background image made the people pop out more with higher contrast. I moved the large background image all the way to the left of the spread in order to leave whitespace on the right side. I then moved the non-‐ opaque images to the right side of the spread with parts of them overlaid onto the background image and parts overlaid onto whitespace. With this arrangement in the top right corner I wanted to create interesting geometry which started by me wanting to put the mans nose butting up against the background image. I made these images transparent to reflect the opacity of the image on the left which also creates interesting tones among the different overlapping sections.

Anna edited my spread in a similar style to that of her project. She

incorporated a lot of overlapping images with geometric slices from the images

interspersed around the spread. She also contained one image in a border made of the other image and vice versa. This is an interesting way to connect the images that I’ve never really thought of before. Anna successfully utilized specific sections of the images in order to emphasize the theme of that spread which was “Blue Skies”.
