LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Oh my gooooodness!! It’s the first issue and the beginning of an all out Dynasty. Thank you all for tuning in and even considering reading our first explosive issue. It was not easy putting this thing together from all the photo shoots and writing but I can say in all honesty that I had a blast doing it. For all of you who are not familiar with Wardance and what it is, it is needless to say, a new experience on life. You should have no other choice but to be excited for all we have in store. This first issue will probably means the most to me because it is the introduction of who I am and who we are, and as we all know, first impressions can often times be the last. So I guess what I am saying is that I hope I impressed you enough to tune in next month. This magazine thing, although not new to me, is a bit of a drag because I am a struggling musician and never thought I would ever have time to do something like this, but when Big Will asked me to do it I had to jump at the chance. Once in a lifetime opportunities you just have to take advantage of. So sit back and enjoy!! Oh and by the way, please feel free to write or email me with what you think can improve. I love feedback whether it be positive or negative, but honestly do not send me anything negative!! LOVE YOU!! Follow twitter.com/OCmike714

BROCK COCK 14

BROCK THE COCK’S WORDS OF WISDOM FROM THOSE WHO SEEK IT This month Brock gives relationship advice Mr. Cock, I just broke up with my BF of 3 years and he hasn’t even tried to make an effort to get me back. But I kinda want him back, what should I do? Kimberly, Anahiem CA

Kimberly, If you walked away from him and he didn’t chase after you..rest assured, you made the right decision. Mr. Cock, I just started going out with this girl and I really like her but I feel we have nothing in common. I’m afraid this will strain our relationship. John D, West Covina CA

That’s not a question John but A great relationship is about two main things. First, find out the similarities. Second, respect the differences. Mr. Cock, It seems that my other friends have boyfriends who always do sweet things for them like buy them flowers and candy and shit, but mine never does. I mean sure he takes care of me but sometimes I wish he would do more. Am I wrong for feeling that way? Crystal, Huntington Beach CA

Crystal if your man takes care of you that should be a sign of true love. Always remember Ladies, a good man will buy you a dozen red roses. A REAL man will go to the store to buy you tampons.

Final words from the almighty cock are that Some relationships are like Tom & Jerry, they tease, irritate, & hate each other but they can’t live without each other. Live by it!

To ask Brock the Cock a question visit www.twitter.com/brockthacock and remember that the Cock knows all.......

Sex To Our Ears ADELE 21

British singer Adele is finally of drinking age (well at least in America) and she most definitely shows us that on her electrifying second solo album. Her first single “Rolling in the Deep” is what intorduces the album with a punchy yet very “Euro” track. The cool thing is that after the first inital songs, the album just seems to gain momentum. Adele’s distinctive yet ardent voice compliments the piano and strings on songs like “Turning Tables,” almost as is she picked up where “Hometown Glory” left off. As you journey through her 21 year old mind you hear how much she has matured since her first album. “Someone Like You” is probably the most intimate track on the album as it showcases her charismatic writing style and emotional tone. 21 is a sure must have.

MARSHA AMBROSIUS LATE NIGHTS AND EARLY MORNINGS

How many times have you heard the expression “if these walls could talk?” Well this album is kind of like “what if this bottle could talk,” of course in a good way. The former Floetry singer has given us an amazing piece of work that covers an array of relationship situations that many people can relate to. Her first single “Hope she cheats on you” is perhaps the most gut wrenching song on the album. The words come together so beautifully with the music and definitely lets her ex-man know that he deserves to feel infidelity. “The Break Up Song” puts a perfect belnd together in the form of music, of a relationship gone wrong. It’s no doubt that Marsha Ambrosius is an amazing song writer and it comes out in this album. LUPE FIASCO LASERS Real hip hop is very far and between but when we hear it, it’s almost like water to a man who was stuck in the dessert for three days. Lupe Fiasco’s third album delivers just that. From start to finish this album screams “listen to me!!!” “Words I Never Said” is that type of song that crosses the line in politics and hip hop relations. “All Black Everything” is perhaps the deepest song on the album as Lupe explores a world that has always been black. Would there have ever been slavery, crack, guns or drugs. It will literally send that chill down your spine that you get when listening to a very deep song with a very powerful message. We still have those universal songs too such as, “Beautiful Lasers” and “Out of my Head.” This star studded album is a must get for true hip hop fans.

The Next Class

Kendrick Lamar Usually when we think of hip hop coming from Compton, Ca, we think of the gritty gangster rap from which the city made famous. We think of N.W.A., Ice Cube and Dj Quik, but we never consider the conscious rapper who does not claim any gang or glorify a city notorious for its high crime rate. Kendrick Lamar is just that, and he’s very proud of it. The 24 year old mc knows that being an average kid from Compton trying to escape the negative influence from his city is not easy but it damn sure gives him some good material. Exploding on the scene a little over five years ago under the Top Dawg Ent. family, Kendrick has grown both in lyrical content and over all maturity. His first solo mixtape “The Kendirck Lamar EP” boasted on the scene in late 2009 and gave the Compton native a notable underground fan base. His lyrical content was far more submerged than those of his peers who grew up in the same neighbourhood as he did. But it wasn’t until last year when he dropped his second mixtape “Overly Dedicated,” which debuted at number 2 on the iTunes charts that his fan base grew substantially. It was then when Dr.Dre got on the radio and expressed how much he wished to work with the new comer from his hometown which he helped put on the map. Since then, Kendrick has been in the studio with Dr.Dre and is rumoured to be on the highly anticipated “Detox.” He has also collaborated with many high profile artists in the business and this summer he will dropping a joint mixtape with Rocnation artists J.Cole. Kendrick is definitely going to be next up in the rap industry and you better get a whiff of him now before there is no more room left on the bandwagon.

Love To Our Eyes

RANGO Rango, the latest animated release from Nickelodeon Movies is also Gore Verbinski’s first film since concluding his Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy in 2007 with the underwhelming At World’s End. Through his work on the Pirates films, Verbinski earned positive buzz for his complicated, but still light-hearted, action set-pieces – as well as a reputation for (some misguided) attempts at simultaneously injecting darker themes and convoluted philosophical ideas into films that were intended as summer popcorn flicks. Does Verbinski’s CGI animated feature Rango, about a thrill-seeking anthropomorphic chameleon in the prairie town of Dirt, play to the director’s strengths -- or does the film juggle too many elements to offer people of all ages a meaningful story as well as a guilt-free actioncomedy? Ultimately, Rango begs a question: just what do we want from an animated film? Do we want movies that keep anklebiters quiet for two hours, without ever excelling? Do we want sequels, films that follow similar templates, cute talking animals, and twee songs? Do we want them to play safe? Or do we want a film that’s packed full of risk, detail, excitement, laughs, scares and some of the finest animated work seen on a big screen to date? A film with genuine character, with real narrative surprise, and no eye whatsoever on making the sequel. A film whose voice talent is cast on the basis of their suitability for the role, rather than sticking their name on the poster (Mr Depp included). One that lobs a grenade slap bang into the middle of the safe, softly-softly animated movies that some have been sending our way over the past decade, and throws down the gauntlet to everyone making animated movies in Hollywood, Pixar included. All in all however, Rango matches the ideaoligy of a good animated feature. If you do decide to a make a family trip to the movies and still want to be entertained as an a adult, then Rango is a defnite must see.

FOOD AND HEALTH

How To Live A Better BEER Life By Chris Miarnada

B Being Consistent A focus point on the importance of regular activity and creating that habit and the consequences of long term negligence. Scientifically proven health benefits of regular exercise brings longevity, new brain cells development, cognitive and mental function enhancement, prevention of cardiovascular disease and prevention and control of type 2 diabetes.

E Emphasis On Nutrition A reality check of what we eat and what it really does to our bodies. Overview of the true quality of what we put into our bodies and the negative effects it has on our daily productivity. Food intake for the body is very essential. Of course, the intake must be of nutritious value and not junk food. Those who eat right maintain good health. They live longer. On the other hand those who are not very conscious of their food habits and eat whatever comes their way tend to suffer from more diseases and that is called unhealthy eating habits.

Limit your workouts to 30-40 minutes. Though the tendency of some people who really want to get a lot out of their workouts is to spend a lot time at the gym, the truth is that after 30-40 minutes, the benefit isn’t as great. To go that long, you’d have to lower the intensity of the workout, and that means that you’re spending too much time working out. It’s better to work out at a higher intensity for a shorter amount of time.

22

E Effective Excercise How to get in something useful in a short amount of time and the positive effects it can have in all areas of your daily life. Make Sure to mix it up. Don’t stick to the same workout routine for too long. For strength training, change your routine every few weeks. For cardio, it’s best to cross train rather than, say, to run every time. If you run or bike or walk for cardio, you’ll want to incorporate hills (after the first month or two of doing it an easy pace on flat ground). It’s no fun to exercise if you hate it. Pick something that’s fun - running, walking, swimming, biking, etc.

R Relationships Matter The reasons we work hard is for our families, the reasons we should take care of ourselves should be for them too. A real life look at the progressive facts of what is going on all around us and what we can change. Physical activity is also a good mood elevator. The mood boost of exercise is clear to anyone who has lifted his or her spirits with a simple walk in the fresh air, a dip in the pool, or a game of catch.

TATTOOS AND JEWELS THE ORIGIN: BORN IN SAMOA BY DOMINA KELLOGG

The word tattoo originally dated from the Samoan word “tatu” which means “to strike.” The ancient method of a sharpened boar’s tooth dipped in ink and then tapped by a striking stick on the skin is still practiced by Samoans and many other Polynesian cultures today. To the Polynesian people, the tattoo is a sign of bravery, strength and dedication to family. In Samoa, the men would get what is called a “pe’a,” which is the Samoan word for the fruit bat. The name is for the charcoal colour of the ink used, which resembles the fruit bat’s colouring. The male tattoo designs are representative of his surroundings, consisting of spear heads, shark teeth, waves, sand, fish and woven family. The “pe’a” is put on the

lower half of a man’s body from the navel to the knees. The female Samoan tattoo is only from the thighs to her knees and is called a “malu” when translated means “protected and sheltered.” A Samoan woman’s tattoo depicts images of birds, plants, fish, shells, centipedes, mats and their combs, and all items that surround her everyday life. The process of the Samoan “Pe’a” is extremely painful and the risk of death from infection was of great concern. Wearing a “pe’a” celebrates the endurance and dedication to ones cultural and family traditions. However, to not finish a “pe’a” one risk being called a coward by other villages and having to wear shame forever.

Many times when young men and women begin to workout and body build and get that beautiful toned muscular body, the next step is to adorn it. The Main form of adornment is to tattoo. Webster’s dictionary says “tattoo” to mark with pigment under the skin. There is a Samoan proverb that says “the work of a man that while a women shall bear children, men shall feel the fire of the tatu,” - Eli Faleomavaega “Navigating the Future: A Samoan Perspective on the U.S. Pacific Relations.”

BIG WILL’S EMPIRE

WELCOME TO

WARDANCE WORDS BY MIKE RILEY MAKEUP BY LETTI MIX PHOTOGRAPHS BY CHAD BACON MODELS ARE ALEX BUBICA, JAQULEYNE WESTLIN, NATALIE BREWSTER

I

ts 5:30 on a February night in OC, California. Big Will is a fan of sushi and he certainly displayed that based on what he ordered at the Japanese restaurant we decided to meet at. The Miami Heat are playing the Indiana Pacers in the background and Will’s phone hasn’t stopped ringing or buzzing since we got here. “You gotta pay the cost to be the boss.” Our food arrives and Will is still texting and emailing away. This seems to be the trend for those who start up their own business. Sade then comes on the speakers and Will puts his phone down. “I love Sade,” they always play good music in Sushi restaurants. As he answers his emails he begins to tell me how excited he is about Wardance. Wardance is beginning to become a household name here in Orange County. The once small time gym has literally exploded into a full on brand complete with an apparel line, a training facility, a magazine (obviously), and even a line of models known as “Wardance Girls” which were all masterminded by the man himself. Big Will is now ready to take on the world, and here is how he plans on doing it.

28

So what was the whole idea behind Wardance? Big Will: The whole idea behind Wardance was for poeple to have a one stop shop for fitness and spitural uplifting. It was designed for people to have a really good time while getting in shape, feeling really good with mind, body and soul, and having a place to go to get away from all their troubles at home. Everybody that works out with us at Wardance has a sense of family when they come in, so they look forward to seeing the people they workout with and the trainers they workout with when they come in. It seems as if Wardance is so much more than a gym. What all do you guys offer? Right now we have Kona Tanning, we have Spot On Botique where we have the Wardance Apparel line and you can buy it there. We have everything you need as far as fitness is concerned no matter what kind of athlete you are in whatever sport it may be. We have kick boxing, basic aerobic and cardio activity if you are looking to lose some weight. If you want to build (musicle) we also offer resistant training. Basically anything you need we have the perfect team of trainers that can get whatever you need done.

What is the meaning behind the name Wardance? When I was coming up with the name Wardance I wanted to create something universal. I wanted to make people feel comfortable whether you’re a very intense person, whether you are a house wife or a little kid. Wardance can be like cheer leading, it’s like you’re doing a dance to get people pumped up for the “war,” the battle, the intense struggle to win whatever challenge or war you’re about to go into. Wardance can be two fighters in a ring, dancing to go into battle, dancing to beat their opponent or conquer whatever it may be. It could be kickboxing, it could be football or any sport. These are all dances within themselves and you are going up against an opponent to win. But you are using your footwork and your fitness. That’s a wardance. What was your motivation to start up a place like this? Did you just want to see people get in shape or was there something deeper? My motivation was to have a spot of my own. I wanted to develop it based on my motto of what I think training should be like. I’ve always been a traininer who loves motivating and getting results from people all while keeping them entertained,

happy and having fun. I hand picked all my trainers, so they were all like my family. We are one big family. Everyone that comes in here knows everybody always, and if they do not know them by the first week, Bam! They will know them by the next week. They will feel totally comfortable imidatally because there are no bad vibes in here. We take care of people on a family level. Family seems to be something you are really focused on. So does that mean you work out kids as well as adults? We work out kids, we work out older people from ages four to age seventy. What kind of training can a four year old do? Kids in here do boxing and kickboxing. They don’t do any resistance training because that can seriously stunt their growth, but they come in and have some fun. They learn something that is going to build their confidence so it prepares them to be the best adults they can be. So besides training what else can Wardance offer? Well first of all we offer Big Will! In itself that’s a good reason for anyone to come.

32

Tell me about Big Will? Big Will is a special man! Hahaha Often considered a big teddy bear, but you still don’t wanna cross a teddy bear because that skin will pull back and turn into a big grizzly bear that can just tear your arms apart if it needed to. But basically Big Will is a very caring indivdual who loves to see smiles on peoples faces. Maybe I’m selfish but I love to put those smiles on peoples faces because it makes me feel good. With that it trickles down. It’s like an epidemic. You make one person smile you make another person smile, and its like a disease. It’s a positive disease and that’s what I create. Do you feel like your image can be somewhat decieving to people? I’ve been told if I’m not smiling I can be very intimidating. That’s why when I wake up I put an imediate smile on my face for the day, because I know that’s gonna change peoples lives. Tell us a little bit about your background? I know besides training you used to be involved in a little mixed martial arts yourself. Is that true? Yes sir

You were doing King of the Cage? Yeah I did King of the Cage, I did a whole lot of training because I enjoyed it. I followed Bruce Lee’s lead with JKD (Jeet Kun Do). I’ve always been intrgued by his (Bruce Lee) style and his comfort level of fighting. It just looked like fun, so I got into the whole JKD and the whole boxing aspect and eventually Jiu Jitsu and wrestling to complete myself as a stand up and ground fighter. Unfortuantely it lasted only a little bit because I started off with injuries from previous sports I did in the past like football which I played in college. How many trainers do you have at Wardance right now? We presently have 16 trainers. We have 10 fitness trainers as far as reisistance, and cardio. We have six martial arts instructors, and that varies from boxing, kickboxing, jiu jitsu, wrestling, wang chung, kung fu, sword and stick fighting, and a few others. So how can somebody be a part of the Wardance family? It’s real easy actually. They come in and we give them a free first week. They check the place out and they have a ball with us and then we set them up on

the personalized plan that suits their needs. What kind of personalized plan? Explain that to me. Well that’s the thing with Wardance, it’s personal, it’s about family and we have so much to offer. We have to meet you, figure out what you want and then we tailor make it according to your needs. You come in, tell us what you want and we make it happen. We guarantee results. Now, in honsety, Will seems like the party type. Have you found that starting your own business is somewhat taking away from your personal life or do you feel as if your business is your personal life? What personal life!?!(Laughs) Are you telling me you do not have a personal life? My personal life is my business and I’m having a great time because I feel as if I’m going home when I go to work. I go and I say; hi honey I’m home (laughs).

33

So is your business a bit like a girlfriend in the sense? Or like it’s your baby and you can’t let anything happen to it? Absolutley, I’m like a protective husband. I’ll never let my girl down, I’ll rub her when she needs to be rubbed, and I’ll give her a nice kiss when I’m leave the house. Do you think that provides a stable enough balance for you? Very balanced until I turn it over.....(pauses for a bite of that Sushi) to be honest I enjoy my job so much it’s like I’m not working, so if you want to call that inbalanced then I love being inbalanced but I am seriously having a good time. So in other words you are living the American Dream? Yes I am, and the Nigerian dream (laughs)! So tell me about the future of Wardance, what are your future expectations for this empire? I honestly think Wardance will be infectious. I think (given enough time) Wardance will be bigger than 24 Hour Fitness, bigger than Bally’s and LA Fitness. I want Wardance to be global, and I want to effect everyone’s life on this earth before I die.

So you do plan to expand and franchise? ASAP! As soon as we can. So what we are going to do is work really hard and get as many people to gain the Wardance experience as possible. From there they will tell others about it and then we move on. So it seems you are pretty set on building an empire. When you do expand, do you think it will be just as easy to manage or do you think you will face a few challenges ahead? You know, the more you grow, the harder it becomes to manage. That’s why you find people who believe and have the same values that you have. You have to hand pick them and then from there you lead the next pack. I have seen a lot of corporations out there act as if they care about people, and when it really comes down to it, all they want is money. They only care about what’s in their pocket book. We want (Wardance) to change that whole outlook on fitness. I want to change that whole outlook on fitness facitlites and corporaitons alike. I do not like to be looked at as corporate. I never want to be considered a corporation.

You do not want to be considered corporate? No, we want to change that outlook and actually be true to caring about people. I want to show people that we honestly care about their needs and concerns, not just on a fitness level, but on a family level as well. I think us being true to people in that way is just going to help us grow that much faster. Do you think expanding beyond 24 Hour Fitness is actually acheieveable? I mean they are huge. You know what man, they had to start somewhere, so I think I am moving in the right direction. Have you always been this big in size or is this something that you had to develop through years of rigorous training? To be honest with you that is what really motivated me to become a trainer in the first place. I was always the fat kid. I grew up in New Orleans so we were accoustmed to a bunch of southern food with no true guidlines to staying healthy. When I moved to California I saw that it was time for me to get serious about my fitness. I wanted to help people who used to be like me or grew up in that kind of enviornment.

You used to get teased? Yeah until I got big and realized that I could fight back (laughs), but I am not a bully. As a matter of fact I can’t stand bullies. I wanted to help people that truly needed help. You sound like a bit of a humanitarian. I think that everyone invloved with Wardance is a humanitarian. We do give back to our community in more ways than one. Like I said before, we are all about helping people beyond fitness. We give and donate money to many non-profit organizations including abused kids, animal rescues, victims of domestic violence and so on. This is truly what we are all about. Okay, honestly, I am dying to know what’s the deal with Brock the Cock? Ha! Brock the Cock is my cock. He is a superstar in his own right. A superstar? Yes, one day he will be the biggest cock in the world. Hahaha okay! So what purpose does Brock the Cock serve?

Brock the Cock is a mentor who gives incredible advice. He gives people their daily tips. We like to call them Cock Tips. So Brock the Cock is wise beyond his years? Oh Brock the Cock is an old school player that is full of wisdom. If you ever have a question for Brock, please do not hesitate to ask. Alrighty! So tell me what’s the deal with the Wardance Girls and Wardance Apparel? Wardance Apparel offers a full line of fitness and casusal wear that is sleek yet very stylish and is available now. I’m in the process of getting it to more retailers and in more botiques as we speak. It is definitely available here at Wardance training center at Spot On Botique located right here in the gym. As far as the girls are concerned, they are all a part of my family. Not only do they make the gym look good but they are also part of my training team as well. You can come in and get a great workout by these amazing women who are more than just something to look at. They are all smart, extremely ambitous and very hard working. Are these girls fitness trainers or martial arts trainers?

They are both. Don’t let the pretty faces fool you. These girls can kick your ass! I’ve seen them take down full on men twice their size before. Hahaha. Is that your kind of girl? Absolutely, why do you think I got them here training with me! Not only that, but I also love to help them pursue their dreams. Natalie is an amazing model, Alex is as well, but she is also a volleyball coach. Jaqueline is an amazing trainer and model as well, plus they are all fashion gurus which helps me out with the apparel line. Wow, so it is safe to say that you have your hands full? Yeah, but like I said before, to me this isn’t work. It is fun, it is what I have always dreamed of doing. It is honestly the most amazing feeling in the world when you can wake up every day doing what you love to do and get paid for it. Especailly when you are surrounded by people you love doing it with. I am truly blessed but this is only the begininng.

Beauty Advisor THE HOW-TO’S AND KNOW-HOW’S OF EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL! Make an entrance. Let the world know you’ve arrived! Enhance what’s yours – what are your assets? Your eyes? Your hands? Your skin? This column is dedicated to maximizing what you already have, and fake what you don’t! Enhancing your favorite features is an art, and the answers below are your tools. After all, makeup isn’t designed to cover you up, but to showcase the features that make you feel confident and sexy!

ASK KATIE: Dear Katie, I’m up early, and my morning makeup has to last well into the evening. My eyelids collect shadow in the creases, and by the end of the day I feel this makes me look tired and greasy. Is there a way to keep the shadow in place, without having to touch it up at the office? Patti S., Publicist, Los Angeles, CA Dear Patti, I deal with that issue too! So in the morning I use pressed powder on my lids, then apply my shadow as usual. My shadow looks fresh all day, although I keep a covered makeup brush in my purse dipped in that day’s shadow, just in case I need a quick pick-me-up! Packing just the brush saves me from dragging around my entire eye shadow palette, and I feel confident I can battle any eyelid grease that dares to cross these lids!

Straight, Healthy hair can be yours! By Katie Quinn Many are familiar with the superchic Japanese Hair Straightening treatment, but has a better alternative really been discovered? Yes! I got to work getting the skinny on the new, somewhat-controversial treatment originating from what seems to be the mother ship of all new beauty crazes… Brazil! And yes, my lovelies, we can all now have shiny, bone-straight hair without compromising our mane’s health, or our pocketbooks. Kinky, frizzy hair can truly be a thing of the past! Beverly Hills Stylist Lanno Curiel has been utilizing the Brazilian Keratin Straightening technique for years. Lanno explains that what sets the Brazilian Keratin Hair Treatment apart is the fact it isn’t permanent, whereas Japanese Hair Straightening is. In other words, your hair is straight where the Japanese treatment is applied, forever! As your hair grows out, the areas that were exposed to the Japanese treatment will hold their straightness, and new growth will still be your own natural, untreated texture. So if you skip a maintenance treatment, get ready to have half-straight, half-frizzy hair. Nightmares of my 80’s halfpermed childhood are flooding back! The Brazilian Keratin treatment effects will fade away after 3 months - but your hair will remain soft, shiny, and healthy looking. The more you do the treatment, the healthier your hair looks and feels. Think of it as being forgiven for all of your past hair styling sins, allowing you a fresh and sleek new start!

2011 LA FITNESS EXPO

What better way to feel fit and in shape

other than being around a bunch of hot ass people who are the exact same way, and by hot ass people I simply mean The Wardance crew who made a big splash at this years 2011 Fitness Expo held at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The experience was like stepping into a time machine and getting a glimpse at the future of fitness and health with revolutionary new workout equipment and supplements as well as all the beautiful fitness models who happened to decorate the interior. All in all though, everyone agrees the highlight was watching Big Will conquer a mechanical bull. Check out some of the highlights.
